[Q] CM10 Flashing GApps over old one and Sync issue - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I want to flash the newer version of GApps onto my phone, do I do anything special or just recovery, install .zip, reboot? And I've been having this issue for a while now, and it's not that important, but does anyone know why my google account never stays synced? I have to resync it everytime I'm in the browser and want to access my open tabs/bookmarks from my desktop. I get a notification saying it's disabled and I have to recheck Auto-Sync each time.
P.S. Anyone still getting a System UI crash randomly? I didn't say anything while on the Nightlies, but now that theres a Stable ROM, I thought I wouldn't get anymore, but it just recently crashed again.

Oh okay, thanks! So, anyone know anything that can help me?

I just flashed them. Not sure which ones you have but the ones I got we're pretty broken. Clock and camera where pretty buggy. I'm waiting for them in an official build.
On a side note, if you do it wipe the cache and dalvic from cwm.

I'm not sure about the version I have currently, but I was planning on flashing the early October GApps .zip because I just recently found out about them The one from the CM WIki. Is that the one you flashed?

[Q] I just want to root my at&t s3 and install cyanogen 10.1!

I'm new to this stuff. I'v been looking for a reliable step-by-step process on how to root my at&t s3 and install cyanogen 10.1.
Do any of you know any reliable videos that will help me do this?
Also, I don't want to wipe the phone, but I'm able to back-up and then access that stuff once the MOD is on there, correct?
Thanks!
XDA is full of information that will provide you with exactly what you're looking for. Search both here and Google, and you'll find all the answers you need. It's not common practice for users to spoonfeed one another on XDA.
I'm not attempting to come off as rude, it's just that these questions have been asked and answered countless times before.
Thanks, man.
I used this video guide.. Worked perfectly.

I was able to root..
I was able to root my AT&T variant but the root process did not go as smoothly. I backed up content (apps, contacts, and pictures) and installed AOKP 4.2.1. But only the pictures show up.
Any idea why? What should I do?

Yes, I wiped user data, cashe, dlv cashe (or whatever it's called), and I formatted something. It was suggested that it be done before an AOKP ROM is installed.
The phone has been virtually useless without my GAPPS. I tried unzipping the gapps file I got from the AOKP galaxy s3 4.2.1 dedicated thread, but it didn't work.
I would post this stop there, but I don't have enough posts, yet.

You have to flash gapps in recovery (ie install zip from sd card).
Please don't take this the wrong way, but please read and re-read the stickies at the top of the General and Android Development sections before you go too much further. Since you're talking about unzipping a gapps package it seems you haven't read enough. Just letting you know so you don't go and bork your phone.
These links are good for people who are new to rooting/flashing roms.

CM10.1 working for you then? I had no issues getting it on, aside from the first build (a nightly) that I used having some FC issues with Superuser and the next few builds having data issues
How are you liking the nightly build? I just get tired after a while of always flashing the daily updates and getting everything set back up. Although, I had it so it didn't take too long to get everything up and running how it's supposed to.

[Q] Update to CM10.1

So, I'm considering the jump from an earlier version of CM10 (11/14) to CM10.1 (1/14). The latest CM10.1 seems pretty stable. I don't use bluetooth, so I don't see any reason not to upgrade now. I've seen a few posts in the CM thread about SuperUser and a few other things to get CM10.1 working. Can anyone point me in the right direction of properly updating from CM10 to CM10.1?
Thanks!
Dirty flash works. Did one the other day. Get the 20121212 gapps and:
Wipe Clock app data.
If using pattern unlock, disable it.
Update.
I had to wipe Play Store data too.
Wow. Didn't know you could dirty flash on top of CM10. I'm a little hesitant to try that coming from such am old version.
Then wipe......

Sorry, I realized I was not very clear with my initial question.
Are there any special steps to install CM10.1? I saw people having issues with SuperSU. Do I need that or will SuperUser work? I'm using CWM latest non touch.
The only special steps are the ones I already outlined. No su issues.

Great, thanks. Will give it a shot.

Why is this happening to my Gnexus?

Hey fellow gnex community! I recently left stock rom due to freezes and random reboots. I've tried out various rom and kernel combinations this week such as xylon/AK, Purity/AK, AOKP/franco/lean, CM10.1/trinity/franco, Rasbean/trinity, PA/lean/franco/trinity/AK and Xenon.
The problem is they all freeze and reboot constantly after 2 minutes of use. I never changed the kernel settings and this is only happening on 4.2.1 roms. My favorite rom/kernel combo would be purity/AK, Xylon/AK but they freeze, wifi disconnects and never connects back and reboots constantly.
So the question is why is this happening to my phone recently and are there specific kernel settings that will stabilize the roms or is it just my phone?
Any help would be great,
thanks.
I haven't had that problem before, and I have flashed several roms (though not a custom kernel in a while)
Faulty hardware perhaps?

but this never happened on 4.1, 4.0.4 etc. That's what's worrying me.
4.2.1 isn't exactly highly regarded for its stability....
I reccomend going back to a good 4.1.2 rom. You aret missing anything anyway

I would do a full wipe and fastboot flash the stock images from Google to see if this helps. Mind you, your internal memory will be wiped so back up all of your photos etc..

I've done that twice already and usually wipe after it freezes but then still happens
Are you sure you know how to flash? Not trying to offend but it saves a lot of time if your a noob.
I currently wipe dalvik cache 3x, cache 3x, and factory reset 3x in twrp. I read somewhere its safer to wipe like this or use super wipe scripts or w.e
I am running the latest rasbeanjelly with latest rasbean gapps and latest lean kernel. I haven't had any resets and haven't tweak anything. May I also add that when I do get errors with roms normally when I flash extra mods I always go back to recovery and hit fix permissions. Idk why but it does solve some issues.
Good luck
Sent from a slice of Galaxy Nexus with some Rasbean Jelly!
lol. Ya I've been flashing roms for like a year and it's only recently these issues are popping up. I do pretty much what everyone does - wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash rom, flash gapps and flash kernel. I never use mods so nothing to worry about there.
Try flashing rom and gapps only without a custom kernel.
If you've fully formatted your drive, have updated recovery, and are positive you have good downloads then your problem is most likely hardware related
Try the kernel cleaner script before flashing/changing between kernels.
It's a cwm flashable .zip.
Alright will do as suggested
How about fastboot flashing the stock rom's .img-es? (Galaxy Nexus ToolKit is the easiest way to do it)

Alright so it seems like the rom HumberOS with built in kernel did the job. Been using the phone for about 4 hours non stop and no freezes or reboots so far. Finally something stable for my phone! Thanks for the help everyone!
update: After a day without any hiccups on the humber os rom, my phone finally froze and rebooted. Since I was using cwm, I decided to see if twrp would solve the problem. I restored my phone to stock and started from scratch by installing twrp. Then I decided to give PA a try and to my surprise no reboots or freezes at all but will have to wait a day to confirm.

You did restore the factory images by running the update script included in the package right? This will make sure all data is up to date.. Fastboot erase all partitions first as well..

yup did all that and everything seems to be going fine so far
So... what would be causing the problem you think?
You installed TWRP and PA both at the same as I can read in the previous posts?
So that way we will never know if it's a recovery problem, or ROM problem...
Well, as long as your device doesn't freeze and/or reboot we should be happy I guess.

Standard gapps package is recommended. BaNkS gapps package is also a good choice.
I do -not- own this device so please be patient. This was not pretested in any way this time, so please report back promptly about any serious issues so I can try to get them resolved and so other users don't have to suffer the same fate.
for more information on the rom, please visit http://xylon.androidvenue.com or look at other xda xylon threads for pretty pictures and such.
This is -not- straight from source, there are many manual edits(additions, changes, removals) done after the rom is finished building before I upload it.
Thanks to the Xylon team for the sources.

I wasn't able to download anything from the market either. I used latest Gapps for JB and also tried BaNks. It recognized that I had 20 apps to restore and even showed progress bars for downloading, it just never did. I did full wipe both times I tried different Gapps pkg. If I could download anything at all, this would be my daily. Blazing fast. The smoothest rom I've seen on my ns4g.

Plus my laptop is on wireless and can dl stuff, but for some reason the market on the phone wont let me dl anything over wifi. very weird.

thanks man.would a logcat be helpful in this case?
Couldn't hurt. And I'm open to suggestions on how to fix things and potential improvements. I am by no means an expert or real dev and as said before not owning the device makes it even harder to test out potential fixes. You can either pm it to me, or post it in this thread. Probably the thread way would be better so other users could potentially help out.
When reporting issues, please only do so from a clean install and not after restoring data. Also mention the gapps used.

[Q] Updating To Cm-10.2-20130907-Nightly From Cm-10.1.2

Hi,
I was trying to update to the nightly version of CyanogenMod, so I went to the update part in the settings and selected the latest nightly. I want to update for the Google Voice integration with any app. Upon downloading and restarting the phone to apply the update, it was at the screen with this (bit.ly/1a9E9NF) and 'Samsung Galaxy S III' written on the top but wouldn't move past that. I was able to boot into recovery mode and I installed CM-10.1.2 (Stable) on a microSD and applied that update so I was able to take control of the phone again, however; I was not able to get the nightlies. Can anyone help with that?
On a different note, when I updated back to CM-10.1.2 (Stable) the Google Play store would not work and many Google Apps would crash, I fixed this by going back into recovery mode and re installing GApps, is that related at all?
Right now, I have everything exactly as I had it before trying to go to nightlies, my issue is how do I update to nightlies now? Did I do something incorrect?

How do you personally flash ROMS? Flashing them wrong can cause issues. Do you wipe everything first and then flash the software? Your supposed to wipe in recovery data, cache, and dalvik cache in that order or at least that's what I do each time. It always works for me.

Nightlies are a totally different breed. Whenever I flash ROM. I wipe everything. Since the latest nightly is a different android version from the previous android version. I am highly recommending flashing clean not dirty. The GAPPs are different also. It might be inconvenient but flashing clean eliminates many issues.

Thanks for the response! I really don't want to do a factory reset so I guess I'll go to my second option. Here's a link to MSgtSimon's CyanogenMod d2att archive. I believe 0813 was the last 10.1 nightly (I had been running it for over a week without any major hiccups). You could also try 10.1.3-RC2 (I'm not sure how stable this is since I haven't used it) if you wanted the ROM to have the most recent patches.

I'm running the latest nightly (0908) without any problems. I believe there was a problem with the online builder before. You can see that the nightlies for 0906 and 0907 (the two that didn't work) were only 184mb in size compared to the rest of the 10.2 ROMs that are 193mb in size.
