Red LED - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Does anyone else have a problem with the red LED being awfully dim. Green and blue are bright as can be, but red is really dim.

mine is super bright no issues here.

I figured. Thanks for the reply.

Are you using light flow? I tried to play with that, and when I would plug in to charge it almost flickered like it was dim.

The same thing happens with the international noteII and the international SGS3 (i9300) with JB firmware. The notification LED auto-adjusts it's brightness based on the light sensor (similar to the screen auto-brightness.)
To prove it to yourself, hold the phone so it's facing a bright light source and you'll see that the notification LED is brighter. Turn off all the lights in a dark room, and the LED gets dimmer.
Personally, I think it's a nice feature. The LED is for notification, not a strobe light in a dark bedroom.

Not using light flow or anything.
As for brightness, it seems to be dim no matter the light, and the others seem to be bright no matter the light.

Wow that is cool. I keep my phone next to my bed, and use it as an alarm. When I had the LG Thrill I had a BLN (touch keys as notification) app and it was so distracting at night I had to turn my phone over so it didn't blink and light up the whole room at night.
Sent from my Note II

The thing is that my green and blue lights DO light up the room in the middle of the night. LOL.
I went to the AT&T store today and their red LED is about the same.

LED Color Change?

I have a buddy that has the Nexus 1 and after he installed 2.2, his LED light would change for different notifications like,
Blue LED = Handcent Message
Purple LED = Craiglist Post
etc.....
Is this something that is implemented inside our version of Froyo?? OR is that even possible on our EVO's

Wouldn't the led's have to be physically changed to have the different colors? AFAIK our evos only have a red and a green led installed. I guess its possible I could be wrong but I don't think so....although it has happened before....hehe
Not necessarily. I would imagine it could be changed, unless there are 7 or so LEDs in the N1.
P.S. John Denks sucks.

Thats correct. Evo's only LED colors are amber and green.
Also, I believe these sort of questions belong in the Q&A section. Just a heads up for next time
EDIT: See here for details on LED Swap.

I don't think software or firmware can determine the color of an led....
You only need red, blue, green to make all the colors imaginable...since our phone only has amber and green, then theoretically we can combine those colors to make more...unfortunately, what colors could those be?

theoretically true IF you could realistically vary the intensity of the LEDs, but one LEDs are not generally that readily variable and two, they are most likely connected to digital outputs so they are either Off or On.
Will not work that way. They are individual parts and on the evo the green is angled to the left. And the amber is angled to the right...so even if you could turn them on at the same time they would not be focused to one point to blend into a different color. Give up can't be done! Unless you swap out the leds.
What about varying the duty cycle of the leds, theoretically that whould result in a color blend even though leds are angled.
However, there aren't many colors that could be created by mixing green and amber.

Interesting
On my nexus the led only blinked white, and many people challenged whether or not it can be done, but eventually there was a mod released allowing to choose between any color I wanted to track ball to glow.
But if the LEDs are in different places like stated above then I think it would be more of a challenge.
from what i have noticed with my evo. the way the LED light is set up is: A electric current flows one way to emit a green light, or it flows the opposite way to emit the amber color. This is something I have learned in a circuits class and seems logical that it would work this way. I dont think with this situation having different colored LEDs will work.

Have you tested this? A typical led is a diode where current can only flow one way, and based on the fact that the leds are displaced, it appears that there are 2 leds.
Additionally, even if only one led could be on at one time, alternating the emission while controlling duty cycle could create an effect of mixed color.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Most likely it's two leds built together. White leds can be made the same way, with a red, green, and blue diode built together. When all three are on, the color will look white.

On CyanogenMod 6 (8/4 nightly build), the LED alternates orange and green for text messages and just orange for email and other notifications.

There are bi-color LEDs that only have 2 leads. Internally they have 2 LEDs wired in an inverse parallel configuration. You apply power one way, green... Apply power the other, yellow.
A better scenario is if the EVO has a tri-color LED (uses 3 leads), which means one set = Red, other set = Green, both sets = Yellow.

automatic brightess not working properly

I have my Gnex set to auto brightness.
If I move my phone from a low light room to a bright light room, the display's brightness increases, but if i go back to the low light room the brightness stay unchanged.

I've seen this behaviour too.
Isn't it delayed to stop the phone from "going wild" with the brightness when your light conditions changes often?
It takes a second for it to change. If you can't wait, simply turn the screen off and then back on. It will automatically pick up the level before the screen comes back on.

looks more than a second for me but I'll pay more attention
I saw the same thing on my Gnex! It works the same way on the iPhone. But my captivate would immediately dim down when away from the light source... Same thing with my Bb 9900, dims down when away from light, but not the Gnex!
I will try to wait and see like the above poster said!

I believe this is by design. _Decreasing_ the brightness looks & feels ugly in most of the use-cases. I've played with this in Cyanogen mod...

I gave up on auto-brightness a few days after I got it. It's useless on the GN.
Yeah stock auto brightness is worthless, it's not the phone it's the software. Both aokp and redemption have modified auto brightness values that work great. I also tried lux from the market, which is better than stock, but not as good as the mentioned roms.

Weird red light...

I have noticed lately a little red light above the S in the *S*amsung logo above the screen. Anyone else notice this? A reboot fixes it but is this damaging my phone in some way?
*no its not the notification led* lol

To my knowledge there is no l.e.d in that location. To the left of the "S" is the proximity light sensor. Could it be that light is reflecting off the screen and emitting itself in a way that seems like a light source?

You're the second person that I heard that has this problem, but that post goes way back though and can't remember what he did to trigger it. Almost doesn't make sense a proximity having any light source though. Maybe it's a sign the sensor is failing

I'm noticing my phones been getting hotter than normal so something might be wrong. Tomorrow calls for a fresh flash and I'll keep it posted if I ever see it again or my sensor failed. Thanks.

Just triggered the red light playing with the proximity sensor.
Weird how it was on without me being on a call but I found out the light is normal.
Thank you

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. You might even not notice it if you switched to a dif rom with dif proximity sensor settings. I dont think its unheard of for an IR device to slightly glow red, prob just slightly more sensitive than another model. If you search for glowing proximity sensor you will see many devices that have it sometimes, and is even dependant upon updates/rom changes.
The only thing I would keep an eye on is, if you really think your phone is getting hotter than usual alot. It may be that the IR is receiving too much power, in which case it also may glow red, or the IR led may be dying and putting off visible light instead of IR

I was the one who posted about this a while back. It's the proximity sensor.
This guy has some application installed that keeps the proximity sensor on. It does pit out some light that you can see in a dark room.
For me I believe it was a notification application that I had set up to not go off if the phone was in my pocket hence the need to use that sensor.
If you make a call in the dark take a look, you will see that it may light up.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
proximity sensor or the light sensor, gotta be infared, normal tho, cause i can see mine sometimes at night too.
Yep it is the proximity sensor. You can actually go into tasker and tell it to turn the proximity sensor on or off and the red light will show up and go away. It has to be pretty dark to see it though.
No Hal 9000 references?

[Q] Notification light stays blue all the time

Just recently my Galaxy Nexus notifcation light has been staying a solid blue even with no notifications. I took out my battery and it would go away. But as soon as I put the battery back in without even turning the phone on, the notification light turns blue. Can somebody please help me out and tell me why this is happening? My Galaxy Nexus is running Stock 4.1.2. It isn't rooted, The bootloader is not unlocked.
Has the phone been exposed to moisture or humidity lately. Have you left it in the bathroom while taking a shower?
download light flow from play store, nd then analyse it. if not than it may b a hardware fault
Actually yeah the moisture thing sounds about right, our phone uses the notification light like the Xbox 360 uses its lights- to communicate error codes (see Red Ring of Death), does it not?
I think red is moisture though. Or maybe blue too...

[Q] Trickster mod gamma -values

When I put the green gamma offset to a minus value (ex -7) the screen turns green on low brightness, does this happened to you as well?
*Edit*
The screen doesn't get a greenish tone, but becomes green, most colors become green, this doesn't happened with blue or red.
*Edit*
I seem to lose battery life while charging,
Wtf
