I have my SGH-T989 in a Ballistic case (see here)
I'm looking for a car mount that can hold my phone with the case on, and allows the phone be plugged in at the same time. The ones in the retail are all too small. If it can stick to dashboards as well as windshields, that's a plus. Sturdiness is key, and I would like to avoid moving plastic parts. Another good feature would be if all the buttons (touch, volume, and power) were all still accessible. Budget around $30.
Let me know what mounts you've had success with bigger-than-normal cases.
This is the one I use to hold my galaxy S2 + laza extended battery + case:

These both look like good options.

I got the Case Mate Tough in the mail today.
It goes on very snug and feels sturdy so I was excited to use it.
BUT, something doesn't fit right, and the case presses the power button and the volumer rocker down as soon as you put it on.
By that I mean, the case completely holds down the volume button (usually volume up) and the power button as soon as you put the hard shell on. Making it effectively useless.
Disclaimer: I did by this case from an accessories dealer on Amazon (Wireless Everything, I think they were called) because it was a few bucks cheaper and free shipping. But it's the Case Mate Tough.
This might be a LTE/GSM/International problem, but Case Mate does not mentioned this issue anywhere on their site, so unless they made design changes for the LTE since this was produced, do not buy.
Obviously, will not work with extended battery either. (I tried, just for laughs)

I bought mine from thecellguru, and it fits on my GSM perfectly. It actually leaves a tiny bit of room on the top of the silicon, i thought thats the space for the lte phones?
Wish I could say that was true, but mine is totally unusable.
When you slip on the hard cover it holds the volume up button down completely, so it maxes out the phone volume and then keeps beeping (the volume change sound) because the button is being "pressed" over and over and over.
The power button either becomes pressed down completely or is behind the hard case and not able to be pressed. This depends on how you put it on. I tried several different ways.
I have the same problem with the volume and power buttons but this is with the GSM Nexus. What I did was cut a slit into the volume silicon and cut out power button silicon completely. I think I replace with otter box commuter because of floppy top and bottom silicon. Casemate really dropped the ball on this one. Everyone should go complain directly to them.

I just got mine in the mail today and it you're right about it not fitting properly. It fits but the I can't press the power button. The volume button is working half the time. Bummer.
Thanks for the heads up! I was ready to hit the order button earlier today but decided to check around for feedback.
I just received my case (EU GSM version) and the problem seems to be that the fit around the power button is way too tight when you add to outer hard case. Verified by adding some paper strips around the power button.
After this it started to behave normal.
I think a couple of quick cuts with an exacto knife when I get home from work should to the trick and make a permanent fix.
The rest of the case seems great.
Not saying that this should not have been perfect out of the box, but the problem seems minimal if one can spare a couple of DIY minutes
Might be a deal breaker if one is considering buying, but should be good news for those with problems or that have already ordered.
Check the review i wrote here http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-nexus-case-mate-tough-case-black (Reviews) and also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371724&page=5 post #43 .All these some time ago with a lot of people saying how good this case is.Its actually a crap and now i am using just the silicon part.
Ah by the way i have GSM version
I have the Case-mate Tough Case for my LTE Galaxy Nexus (with Extended Battery), and it does not fit properly.
If you contact Case-mate they will send you a new case redesigned.
They have redesigned the case because the prototype phone they were given was smaller then the current Nexus (and the LTE is larger too).
My Casemate Tough fits my GSM GNEX perfectly. The difference in dimensions to the LTE version is.53mm

Hi guys, I just picked up the ARKON SM515 mount for my GS3 and I love it. I think it was $16 on amazon. (link to their site http://www.arkon.com/Galaxy S III/slimgrip-galaxy-s-3-mini-windshield-car-mount.html ) They also have one called the AP515 which is for the iphone and its a few bucks cheaper but I just don't know if the GS3 will fit. The SM514 is similar to the 515 but it's a tiny bit bigger due to the adjustable arm (another great one to consider if you have the room for it) Anyway I mounted in a weird spot near my radio on the center of the dashboard. It can swivel in almost any direction which is cool and it's holding on tight. You can adjust the feet that hold the phone and they have rubber padding that way they won't scratch anything. I mounted mine using the included dashboard sticky pad. Here's a few pics taken with my bionic. (not the best camera)
p.s. In case any of you are wonder i'm using the Fosmon TPU + clear back case from amazon. It's around 6 bucks.
Deffinately thinking I'll order one. Been wanting a good mount for my car witht he new phone.
Arkon makes some FANTASTIC products - glad to know they didn't skimp out on the S3.
I bought the bad boy.

I hate using AC and window mounts. This can sit right in between my e-brake and driver seat.
That's the exact mount I have in my car. I originally bought it for my Nook Color, but it also fits the S3 perfectly. Nice strong hold.

How removable is the dashboard sticky pad? Would it leave behind any gunk when taking it off? And how easy is it to take off/put on. Thanks.

Taking the phone off the mount is pretty easy but this thing does hold it pretty firmly in place. I don't know how easy The 3M sticky pad will come off as it feels pretty solid on there. In my case my dash is plastic so it should come off pretty easily (but not too easy I hope) . You may want to contact their customer service and see what they say about it

thanks for this. i've been looking for a good vehicle mount for a while
Im looking for something like this but with shorter neck.
For you guys that don't like windshield mounts, I've used the "sticky" Arkon mount. It works pretty well. I like the Mobile Grip, but if you use a big case like an otterbox, you'll probably be better off with the slim-grip, that thing will hold anything.

Looks interesting. Can you put up pictures/video when you get it installed? I'm wondering whether its long enough that you don't have to look down from the road too much to see the screen.

Yeah, their sticky mount is awesome!!! I just recently reviewed their Slim Grip Ultra with stick mount here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174449 - that mount works with ANY phone up to Note 2/Note 3 size and even 7"/8" tablets. Definitely recommend it.

I have this in my tow truck and it works great. The only problem is you need 2 hands to insert or remove the phone. It holds the phone very tight.
I bought the imagnet car mount
The RAM has been the standard for motorcycle mounts for eyars. They are without a doubt the toughest mounts and must stable and sturdy. The X grip BARELY fits an SGS3 with extended battery
Gotta agree with the imagnet mount. I could never use a regular clamp style mount again!!!

What mount did you end up with? I saw suggestion of the same magnetic mount I've been considering but was curious if the magnet would still hold up considering the weight and overall bulk the hperion extended battery adds to the phone?
Cheers

I don't know if anyone got back to you, but I just purchased the iMagnet mount to test with the ZeroLemon 7000 mah battery, and it still works well! I have the rectangle metal plate inside the back between the battery and the TPU case, and it still sticks pretty solidly! It comes with two plates with adhesive, and one round plate without adhesive.
I also tested the hold strength with both a headphone cable and a charging cable attached, and the weight didn't affect performance. Both cables hung slack, so if you have to stretch your cable to the mount, YMMV.
Just posted this in another thread....
The nice thing about the CraigsDocks dock is that it's customizable. If you get the Galaxy S4, it will still fit. Heck, it even fits the NOTE II and smaller phones.
So you buy one dock for the next several years & phones.
I have one in my car and it's far & away the best dock I've ever used. You just have to make sure you tighten down the adjustments real good so it doesn't loosen up.
This will work with many extended batteries.

It's not cheap your right...but...
- it's indestructible
- will carry you through with all future devices
- hand made precision machined aluminum
- not only adjustable, but is low profile (as apposed to bulky)
- extremely reliable docking + power (audio too if you run an OTG cable)
- lastly, the craftsman is getting under paid for the effort and materials
(he deserves more really)

yes for this you have to used the mobile power bank
I have a Laza Zip Grip from Amazon ~$10 and holds my Zerolemon 7000mAh
Excellent customer service too. I had an issue with the suction cup almost a year ago, they sent me a new one with their current suction cup design and haven't had any issues since.

You guys rock, the two recommendations are excellent and I haven't been able to find a solution with an extended battery except on this forum.
Hey all!
Picked up the GreatShield case on ebay for my Nexus 7 for $25. Been working great so far, so thought I'd put up a review!
It's fake leather, but feels good. Stitching has been holding up very well. Case is designed for the Nexus 7 2013, and as you can see in the pics it's got openings for the camera as well as the speakers. The tablet does slide around slightly, especially when trying to work the power or volume, but it does hold the tablet well enough.
Battery life on the keyboard has been great! I usually plug it in once a week but that's just been out of habit. Haven't had the battery die on me yet.
Case has a built in stand that holds the tablet up, stand had a metal insert that secures it in place. Stand is held to the case with a magnet when it's not in use.
Also has a magnet in the case that activates the screen on/off function.

check on ebay & amazon though, will usually find it cheaper then direct from Greatshield
Moko Slim Folding Case
Pros:
1. Case fits well.
2. No part of the screen is obscured by the case.
3. All ports, buttons are accessible with case on, with exception of SD Card slot.
4. Works with Quick Cover feature of GPad.
5. Magnetic closure is strong enough to hold the cover closed with any normal handling
6. Elastic strap can be used to secure cover closed or open.
7. Landscape mode stand position is very stable.
Cons:
1. Only one standing position in landscape mode.
2. No standing position in portrait mode.
3. Hand strap is tight if you have a large hand. This may loosen up with use.
4. SD Card slot is difficult to get to with case on.
I see these as features, you may not.
1. When the case is open and held in portrait mode the case can be folded so that there is about 1/2 inch sticking out from the edge. I find myself using this to hold the tablet.
2. The power button and volume control are accessible, but are recessed a bit. For me this means I don't accidentally hit them when holding the tablet.
Note: The pictures displayed with the case at Amazon on 12/13/13 are accurate.

thanks. looking at this case now.
Ordered this case yesterday so your revew makes me feel better about that. Now I just wish it would hurry up and get here.
Thanks for the review. In my opinion the case is flat out ugly but everyone has different preferences for what they like their tablets it so am glad you like it.
Plus there are so few cases out, I'm handling my tablet like it is made out of eggshells until the case comes in.
I prefer the thin cases, Moko does a great one for the Tab 3 8.0, very IPad Mini style.
That is what I was looking for with the LG (so far only the VOIA seems to fit and it cost me $50 shipped, way too much for an aftermarket case).
Asuxtek is supposed to have one out on Amazon.ca but the pic for it is wrong so no way to know what it really looks like.

I have been using the cover since December and it has not gotten any prettier , but it does a great job protecting the tablet and I still like it :good:. I haven't looked for anything to replace it.
