Updated yesterday to stock ICS with Odin3. I listen with a tape adapter in my car. No issues so far.

I have plugged my phone into my surround sound system using the headphone socket but the music out volume is very very quiet. Tried in the car also connecting it to the car stereo but again very quiet. Plugging my ipod in this way both times and the music is perfectly loud. Is this a bug or does anyone know a solution. I was going to buy a new car stereo so i can stream music to it via bluetooth. Will this also be ridiculously quiet??
I'm guessing that you've already tried turning the volume up?

Yes I have turned the volume right up.
Are you being serious that it's loud?? Is that because your using an unofficial rom?

I thought as much, I'm using CM7, but I have used the stock HTC ROM to listen to music on my HiFi. And there were no problems with the volume.
Are you using the same 3.5mm jack to connect your phone to your car & HiFi at home?
Yeah using the same 3.5mm jack on th phone but different lead each time. As I say with iPod it's fine. Through headphones the volume is fine and too loud when turned right up but it's when connecting to other audio equipment it's just so quiet and very poor quality.
That's odd, sadly short of a factory reset, which probably won't fix it anyway. I've no more ideas

I also have the same problem, I've plugged mine into my car stereo and it does not go loud enough, I'm wondering if it could be a fault.
Maybe a problem with the latest firmware update that they pulled (2.2.1) as I didn't try it before then I'm not sure. Thanks for your replys so far. Any othe thoughts??
Hey Guys,
After I updated my phone to official JB, the sound quality got really bad. When I play a music you can't hear the bass properly and I can hear a cracking/hissing sound in between. This happens when my earphones are connected to the phone, I have tried many earphones (including iphone ones) but the problem still remains. Although the problem is not there when I am connecting my Bose mie2i earphones or Beats studio headphones.
Any suggestions?

Try with factory reset if you are not rooted or even rooted but not in recovery...be sure to save all your important things from the phone to your pc ...if it wouldn't help then download zero infinitys soundmod if you are rooted an flash this...you have to search it in Google or just flash renovate Rom it has the latest sound mod update...

Hey Folks,
I realized an big issue on my phone today:
When I listen to music over headphones, I can hear the music over the speakerphone (the one used while phoning), too. The sound is quite awful and is just some random noise. The issue appears in every music app, but only with headphones plugged in. When listening to loud music with the phone speaker, everything is quite fine. The issue only appears when the volume is nearly or completly turned up to max.
I have rooted my phone with the guide by Darkimmortal and [NUT].
Has anyone noticed the same issue? Might this be an software or an hardware issue?
Thanks

Hello everyone !
My M8 went mad today. It recognizes all headphones/earphones except the stock one that came with the device. The stock one works perfectly fine with all the devices except my M8. That sounds really strange, but it did happen.
I googled some forums and found that soundabout app on the play store could solve this issue by routing the audio to headphone jack. It worked.
I was tinkering with the settings of the app. I routed the audio to the earpiece(top speaker) only.
I'm somewhat skeptical that the top speaker now has less volume compared to the bottom one, when playing music/videos.
Does this mean that I have a partly damaged speaker ?
Also, can tinkering the settings damage the hardware(speakers) in any case ?
Thank you for reading.

I think that the earpiece speaker is actually less powerful than the bottom speaker. I use SoundAbout myself as I have an issue with one of my friends old stereo's. The phone doesn't recognize that I have plugged in the aux cable but it only happens with that stereo. So I have to use the SoundAbout app to change the setting to Wired Headphones.
I'm not sure if tinkering setting can damage the speakers, but I have damaged the bottom speaker myself by flashing one of the first CM12 nightly's that came out. The speaker is quite easy to replace yourself and same goes for the earpiece.
Hello,
I have nexus 5 with stock 5.1.1 not rooted.
I started to use soundabout because my phone didn’t recognize AUX-IN from my car audio.
Everything was ok for long time till yesterday.
Now, after I will use soundabout I can’t hear any call conversation. I need to restart nexus.
I am wonder If someone know some similar program that I can test.
Regards from Poland

Did you try different headphones? If you don't have a second pair try them on a different device
