unlock the bootloader, install cwm and then the custom rom you need....or you can flash a factory image if you want to keep the warranty

Definitely do it this way. Relying on a toolkit won't help you down the road if your device gets FUBAR'd.

i am unlocked and rooted but im just looking for the latest stock ICS android build (not interested in roms atm) for the galaxy nexus. im using a Fido Galaxy Nexus and its still on 4.0.1. Is 4.0.1 the lasted version for gsm nexus?
4.0.2 is the latest stock yakju build. You can get the stock image from Google:

thanks i appreciated. here's the cwm for those who are interested http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398800

Here is a link the the guide using fastboot command:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366806
Extract the components of the image and flash them like so:
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
And follow that guideline for whatever else is in there (not entirely sure myself )
I don't think order matters but I could be wrong.

yup thats what i did and it worked without a glitch. when are you americans getting the gsm GN? hopefully 4.0.3/4 gsm will be out soon
Or just buy clockworkmod, download your image to the phone and flash through the app. Its very simple. Backup your device before
this is the stock 4.0.2 rooted, busybox and deodexed.
just rename flash-all.sh to flash-all.bat

Yes, i am a noob, and yes i did watch that video, but still id like to be 987% sure that im doing everything right.
Yakju(xx) GNex and i would like it to be yakju.
I will do the following.
1) Install the drivers
2) Unlock the bootloader with Galaxy Nexus ToolKit.
3) Download the yakju image via ToolKit
4) Flash it somehow.
5) Once i have yakju(im now confused if i still have bootloader unlocked)
6) I`ll use #8 (1 - CLICK for all) in Galaxy Nexus ToolKit
7) And flash custom Roms.

yes, you still have unlocked bootloader after flashing a factory image, unless you lock it yourself it's always unlocked. After flashing the image with the toolkit you should flash the radio and bootloader that are found in the same archive with the factory image file. You put them in the directory "put_img_files_to_flash_here" that is found where you installed the toolkit and then navigate around the menu and flash them. After this you are stock yakju and good to go.
EDIT: The next step, it you want to flash custom ROMs afterwards, is to flash a recovery using the same toolkit and then boot to it

You copy the radio and bootloader .img files from the archive with the factory image (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images). You put them in the directory "put_img_files_to_flash_here" which is found in the main directory of your toolkit. Then you have the option to flash or boot image files in the toolkit. Just look around the menu and choose to flash them in the correct places (radio/bootloader).

Hello,
I'm on yakjuxw 4.1.1 (came with 4.0.4, and then OTA updated to 4.1.1). I bought the phone this September, so OTA was readily available.
I want to move to yakju so that I can update as soon as its out. I'm going to use the GNex Toolkit to get there.
Question is -
After unlock, root, and CWM install, can I flash to 4.1.2 yakju, that's available at Google's site, directly?
Will be following the procedure in this video(16 mins long), which was with the Toolkit instructions.
I have attached a screenshot containing more info.

So the zip will contain it. And I don't need to look for radios separately. Right?
Sorry, just being cautious.

From my experience. The stock flash will have the stock radio.
Check the radio you have in: Settings --> About Phone --> Baseband Version --> It'll be the last 5 digits.
Go find that radio in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345 and back it up. (i prefer the cwm downloads)
If you flash to stock and it breaks your network... Try using the radio you used to have.

I9250 XXLF1. So I guess that's covered in the stock package. Also, isn't there an option to backup radio in the GNex Toolkit as well?

"Pull and Trim your Radio Image from your phone and save to your PC (thanks to josteink for Radio Trimmer)"
I guess it's in there somewhere. If you already have XXLF1 now. I wouldn't worry too much myself about backing it up. You can grab it pretty easy from the baseband page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27984443&postcount=1097
If you're in India. The best radio for you would probably have a DD prefix, but I don't see any of those. Try the XXLF1. Then maybe try a couple of the latest radios: UILE1, UGLH1, DVLF1
As far as I know playing with different radios won't permanently hurt anything. Just keep the factory flash/radio at hand if it breaks.
hi guys, i have problem rooting the stock 4.1.2, i keep getting status 1 error in cwm when flashing the su.zip

Just follow the instructions from the 15-minute long video that's with the Toolkit.
- Drivers
- USB Debugging on
- Unlock
- Root
- Backup
- Flash
If you don't wanna install CWM, ignore those steps and use 'Download, and Flash stock Google images'.. If you do want CWM, just use step 7 to do it all at once (except the backup).
I'm now on yakju 4.1.2.

You have to extract it as it's is not flashed via recovery but rather fastboot, refer to this thread. Or you could use the toolkit (which should do everything for you) to restore to stock.

there is video by techfanatic in some other thread , . i want to ask is it the same thing as in my case ?

SEARCH!!! If you can't find the 4.0.4 image on the Google site that's your fault but we're not going to spoon feed you
For reference, though, do NOT use that video guide as you do not have to go anywhere near Odin to go back to ICS. You DO have to unlock the bootloader, though, so backup your data before doing so as flashing a stock image wipes everything

The point is it's not mine but my friend's gnex. He accidently updated the device OTA from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1
He was quite conformtable with the 4.0.4. Thus he requested me to flash the device back to 4.0.4 for him.
I have read the guide in link provided by you
The device is unrooted and not customized at all at any time.
So what i have to do is to unlock the bootloader and then follow the tutorial as given.
Please confirm. Am i right or am i missing something over there ?
Thanks
You're right, but just tell your friend to stick with 4.1. There's very little difference
