glad didn't buy nexus 4 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

after seeing people getting 3 hour screen times on their new nexus 4s, I'm glad I stuck with my awesome note ii. hope others do the same.

Only 3 hour of screen time? Wow...our Note can easily double that.

Yup, that is why I bought an almighty powerful phone because it was meant for long screen time. If I wanted shorter screen time I would of opted for a flip phone.

Umm, flip phones last like a week without a charge...

Was considering getting Nexus4 due to faster updates from Google and stock android but the Note2 has a excellent battery life. So glad I got a note2.

Yep same here. Plus I am pretty sure we will get a nice AOSP rom out soon

From reading various posts, seems people are averaging 7-9 hours average screen time on the note ii. That's phenomenal. Can't figure out why Google out of all folks just can't bring good battery life to their nexus devices.

I still want my Nexus4. I don't even know where it is. But if I ended up with my NoteII I'd still be happy.

If i had to choose 1, I'd take the Note II, but I still kinda want a Nexus 4 for experimental purposes

Worth $10 for a refurb?

My wife just upgraded to an iPhone5 by signing a 2-year extension, so I've decided to upgrade to another phone to keep our contract terms the same. I have a Galaxy Nexus that I've enjoyed using - mainly for the official updates. But for $10, I can get a refurb One X. I know these phones are pretty similar, but I wanted to list a few gripes about the GNex and see if they are evident in the HOX:
1. GPS hardly works - I've tried some fixes, but I always seem to have to turn off Google location and reboot for a signal to sync.
2. Battery Life - I'm a pretty heavy web surfer and the GNex will typically last 4 - 5 hours (30%). On a typical day, I usually charge once around 1:00pm and before bed.
I love JB, but if it not released for HOX in October, I imagine I can find a ROM with it?

Great to hear about the October release. GPS is the biggest annoyance, so glad to hear that's all good. When you say :nor happy' with the battery, would you speculate or have observed worse, equal, or a little better than GNex?

Battery life depeds on how u use the phone..
If u use 3g all the time and usual auto sync then u can get aprox around 3 hours of screen on time..
Compared to gnex its lower..
U can get 4-5 hours on galaxy s3..
So tbh hox fails on battery..

No you do not unless you are hardly using your phone except staring at it. 2 hours on screen time is average and eveb then you gotta be careful.

Sorry, what's that? $10 for the phone? $10 a month? For 2 years? I'd be all over that.
Thanks for the responses. I'll need to do a little more research. It's $10 when signing a 2-year agreement.

the One X and Nexus are not similar....massively better screen, built and camera, GPU and CPU i don't see the "similar"
just be prepared for a lot of screen off time and less screen on time, Tegra 3 is different from all other phones it gives crazy amount of sleep time thanks to the extra low power core and consumes a lot during actual use, over wifi browsing you can achieve 3.5 hours, don't forget the screen is over 4x brighter so even at 25% you are still brighter than the GNEX, heavy 3d gaming gives around 2.5 to 3 hours on stock ROM
custom ROMs are aplenty and CM10 is fully functional but you loose the benefits of Sense (believe when i say benefits) and you loose the camera abilities like HDR and burst mode
the current 2.17 Android 4.0.4 firmware is almost as smooth as JB
we had the leaked JB alpha test firmware for few weeks, beta is just around the corner and the final OTA is coming in OCTOBER
be careful with refurbs we had lots of QC issues on launch

My wife went to an AT&T store on Saturday and bought a Note II. She insists she had to buy a new one since I hard bricked her Note I the night before (mistakenly flashed a kernel for an international version!) and even though it is already out for jtag service, she could not do without a phone for a week and her upgrade does not come until October- that was her excuse anyway. She has been wanting one, though, since she loved her old one so much and wanted the latest and greatest. The cheapest place we found to buy one new was an ATT company store (where it was $650). The franchise ATT store near our house wanted $200 more. I did find some good deals on Craigslist for $500 but I did not even have a chance - she went right out and bought one that morning.
She got the Note II Saturday and charged it Saturday night. I told her to let it get down to 10% before recharging to fully cycle the battery. Last night (Tuesday night) it was down to 29% and started pinging, so she charged it, even though I exhorted her to let it go at least another day and a half, which it would have easily done, since I would have loved to have seen a battery chart with 4 days and 8 hours of screen time. This is stock unrooted, amazingly. which I tuned as best I could without being rooted, but I don't have any battery-saving features enabled, and always turn off the "re-analyze images to save battery" since I think this uses more battery. I can't imagine how good it would be with CM on it, or even just rooted to remove the bloat and unnecessary processes, but she won't let me flash it for some reason....
I switched from an iphone 5 to the Note II and holy cow the differences are amazing! By far the bet phone i have ever owned!
I usually switch phones every six months to a year but im waiting till the note 3 that's how much I love this phone. Ps its bone stock

I've had my Galaxy Note 2 now for about a month and it's taken me a while to get used to it after having iPhones for the last 3 or 4 years. But I must say that this phone is simply awesome. I don't think I could ever go back to iPhones now. Just wish I could set individual text alerts for different contacts like I could with the iPhone.

The 18 Month Mark Is Almost Upon Us

Well we've got a little over a month to go before we hit that magical 18 month mark and the support cycle for our beloved nexii ends. Not that that matters a whole lot, but its a milestone nonetheless. Despite the ongoing battery struggles and some awful early (and sometimes reappearing) signal issues, I have to say that I've loved this phone, and at the end of the day it really did meet most most of my expectations. It can still handle pretty much everything you can throw at it, even at 18 months old, and that's not something you can say about a lot phones at this point in their life cycles. I did hate it while we were waiting for the first official radio update and 4.04, and even then I never really stopped thinking about selling it. But from the first JB update and since, I've been a happy camper and even turned down a family member's offer to buy me a full price Note 2 or DNA.
Interested to hear what other launch day or close-to-launch day purchasers would say about if and how it has lived up to their expectations.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I have had my nexus since December 2011, not exactly launch day but that was the soonest I could get my hands on it in Canada. My experience in owning this device has been interesting. In the end I have realized what features I value more then others based on the nexus' downfalls. Some of these include radio strength, battery life, camera quality and of course software is still vital to me.
The 18 months is coming quickly upon us and our Galaxy nexus is probably only going to get one more official update and to be honest I'm fine with it, as this will give me extra reason to upgrade.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Well I've had my nexus for about 8 months or so now. I did not upgrade when it first came out and stuck with the nexus s for a bit.
Then got the note 1 for a while. Then finally came over late last year cause I got tired of waiting on Samsung to release jellybean for the note 1.
Anyway... I can easily say this has been the best experience I've had with any handset. Never been happier.
Jellybean solved a lot of problems with the fluidity and speed of the already excellent android experience.
The handset itself is still a beauty too. I never get tired of those sexy curves and all clean black front end with no buttons!
The handset still runs well with no big issues. Games and apps load in an almost instant. Blazing fast still. I will keep it for a good while I think.
Will try and wait till the fall at least. See what the next nexus brings. Or that Motorola x phone.
The only thing I would change about the galaxy nexus would be more ram. It's the only small issue I have very rarely. Especially when using chrome with a few tabs open. It eats a lot of ram at times.
But all in all... This has been and still is an excellent handset. Love it

I've had mine since launch day on Verizon, and I stuck with it after the fiasco of the launch date that was delayed and delayed. I wanted the nexus experience and I have enjoyed it for the most part, but Verizon has ruined some of the experience with their late updates and such. I will be keeping this phone as long as I can since I am grandfathered into the unlimited data so I don't want to upgrade. When it comes time to get a new phone, I hope I have the option to buy a nexus.

Did google said anything about that 18 month something? I think you're all being paranoid. Go ahead and flash something coz it looks like y'all need your medication.
I thought support ends after 2 years?
I/O is coming.
And I thought support was for 2 major Android versions. Like the Nexus S.
Sent from my Nexus
I bought my Gnex used and I've had it about 9 months. I love the pure Google experience and it helped me survive to the end of my contract with VZW. I'm waiting to see if Google has something up their sleeve at I/O for a new Nexus phone. I'll probably go to the Nexus 4 or whatever they announce then and free myself from carrier crap. Though maybe I'll wait until my Gnex craps out first and buy a Nexus 10 to replace my aging Iconia A500. Anyway, I'm firm in the Nexus camp!
Going by past history, each nexus device is roughly supported for around 2 years, which means we might stop getting official updates at around october..

I am on my second Contract with verizon...my first 2 year contract had the OG droid, Droid X and HTC thunderbolt in there. this is the only phone i have had on the current contract. i Do have urges to get a used S3 and throw an AOSP ROM on it, but i still think i would miss my Nexus.
all of my phones, i have tried everything in my power to make it as close to a nexus device as possible....and now that i have a nexus device, i dont have to worry about it. it is always up to date, it is super smooth, i haven't run into any issues, the Community is EXACTLY what i wanted, and the phone is even more than what i wanted. a phone that is still smooth and fast 15 months after i bought it, i am simply amazed.
and this phone gets more and more exciting come these google events, because i know i will have what they announce later that day or the following one.
I've had this phone for over a year which is an eternity for me. I still enjoy it so I'm having trouble convincing myself to retire it which is good thing. Sure there's now faster phones with bigger screens and better hardware but this thing still holds its own.
My only hope now is that I accidentally break it to give me reason to replace it. Maybe then my wife will understand.

Oh man! This is exactly how I feel. I'm tempted to buy the N4, but I feel guilty because my gnex still works perfectly. Also if I pull the trigger and buy the N4, I'm going to regret the decision by the end of this year when the next Nexus comes out.
I might just get drunk one day and make the purchase and blame alcohol for the decision!

im not going to lie....i was really skeptical about picking it up about 4 weeks ago since it is a pretty old machine now, but omg...it's blazing fast, enough juice to keep a heavy user happy in a slim form...i mean, those guys who are getting the zerolemon battery must really hate touching the charging cable....i listen to music all day long on my BT headset, make several calls, push mail, send about 75-100 texts a day, take about 30-40 pictures, and watch about 30-45 minutes of youtube and have yet to drain this little guy...
sure the Dev community is small, but it is full of quality dev's creating quality roms..i actually like them all and just keep bouncing around!!
4.2.2 aosp roms are running great, but i prefer the TW cam over AOSP....i would wish someone would create an TW based rom with AOSP apps....
regardless of the Note 3, this phone is still a powerful phone that is going to be a contender for awhile....the only thing the note 3 has over this,IMHO, is that new screen....
All true. ...
And as once said. ..
A bird in the hand. ..is worth 2 in the bush...

The claims are true. ...g
I would say yes but dont overlook the optimus g pro.

I am a heavy internet user on my Galaxy Note 2 and I receive about 2 maybe 3 calls a day on top of sending 50 to 60 texts a day. On my heaviest usage day, I get about 1 day on a single charge. But on my lightest usage day I get 3 days. But I have auto sync on everything turned off, GPS is off, outside of using cellular networks, auto-brightness is off with 30% brightness, 15 second screen timeout and S Pen battery saving checked. The only thing auto updating is Contacts and Calendar.
I paid 330 on ebay for brand new with extras... so depends how much you get it for. Development is slow here though.
Absolutely... I always have to have new gadgets, but I bought mine the day it released with AT&T and every time I think I might want a new phone I realize there is nothing out there (yet) that I want more than this one!
I agree...had years and years of iPhones and traded a guy on CL for my iPhone 5. I'm very happy...like everyone says, it's very fast, battery life is great, screen size is great. Running CleanROM SE3.0 on mine with Perseus kernel, and a few AOSP themes and its exaclty how I want it to be. Very, very satisfied with my device.

Great buy.
lol no slow developments found in Sprint & Verizon versions.
We have many more roms to choose from with different bases , ports and tweaks etc ATT development is fair
If I got one, it would be on contract with ATT and I can get one brand new for $100
And that would be keeping my Nexus 4 as well so I could switch as I desire

64 GB Note 5 came in today

Pretty stoked I was able to get it this soon. Anyone with questions feel free to ask. I'll do my best to answer them.

Are you using the stock TouchWiz launcher? I'm using nova launcher and I'm not seeing that.

Ordered mine yesterday at 4pm and it got to my house by 2pm today. That's Texas to PA insanely fast shipping. Anyway, liking it so far but already hoping to see root threads! ✌
P.S. The camera is quick to snap pics and I'm quite impressed with the quality!
I just want at least Root so we can debloat this bad boy. Also get rid of the hideous Samsung Emojies. I like the AOSP so much better. Lol.

Anyone's battery life pretty good? This is the best I've had in any phone in a good minute. Survived all but the last half hour at work and I have spotty service once I enter the doors. Lol.

How bad is the crapware? Can it all be uninstalled or disabled?
Has AT&T nuetered this phone like they did with the Edge? They took out all the Battery and Bandwidth saving features. Just dont want to be disappointed again
It's about the Same as the note 4 for me
Congratulations. You'll love it

Trust me, I know that the Note5 easily has this type of battery performance or better, but it appears you plugged your phone back into some power source (USB or charger) during this 15 hour period based on the screen shot you provided.
