So I can't seem to find a good all to control my bass and sound effects for music.. Back on my evo 4G (the original) there was this really good working one called dsps manager, but I can't seem to find it and I doubt it supports jb. Can anyone give me some tips of good apps to control that stuff?
I also noticed my s3 has some bass coming from its speakers but it's so quiet you can barely tell

use the music player in the music hub it gives you the best sound with the original head phones the phone came with. make sure you enable it in settings

Hello guys i have question about the Audio Booster and i need some help from some Music expert or someone who know the settings!
Im using often my Blackstone to listen music and the Audio Booster is good app for me!
Also im using the default Music player because for me he play good the songs !
But i don`t like all the presets from the Audio Booster so i wana make my Custum Preset but the problem is that i don`t understand from Music equalizer alot and i dont know the settings so can anyone give me example about the equalizer i listen mostly Progressive House Music and i want the music to sound cool and clear if have vocals they to be cool and on the same time the beat to be clear and cool too!

flick through all of the presets, find one which sounds best and then, tweak each controller a bit up and a bit down, and see what sounds best. repeat this until youve done it for all of the controllers.

Hey guys, I don't know whether ur scared of the topic but no one has found ways to better the sound quality of the phone . Everyone is able to port stuff and create roms but never anything about sound improvement like porting dolby from other android mobile.

I reckon people with issues with the volume are the ones that will suffer from deafness early in life as they probably crank up the volume on all devices
i didnt mean voice calls, i meant when playing music through the ear phones. before u say get better headphones, i got senheissers cx400s. the sound quality is rubbish at best. my n95 and n73 both played music better than the htc phone with the same headphones.
I got to agree on the sound quality issue. The music is just too flat on desire.
I am reconsidering galaxy s and iphone4 due to this...
Hopefully someone can port a better music player or fix the issue soon...

Surely its a hardware limitation.
Aside from putting a better dac in the device (probably impossible) what can be done about sound quality? I don't get how a better music player could help.
You can try with DSP Manager... included in some modded rom... like mine...
music is fine on mine (dsp manager + Sennheiser CX 400 II's)
it was rubbish compared to my ipod shuffle using the same headphones, before using dsp manager
I use mixzing player with equalizer with a custom preset for better quality.

DSP manager is an equalizer built into the ROM. It can have seperate settings for phone speaker, bluetooth and headphones. I used to to take some of the tinniness out of phone speaker. It's in CM6, and probably a lot of other roms too.

Don't know if this can be flashed to OD, but OD is not based on Cyanogen, it is a build from Android source.
DSP manager is brilliant. The compressor pops a bit too much for my liking though.

Thru loud speaker, Desire wasn't really that good. But thru headsets with Mixzing, is quite good.
completely agree. speakers on the phone are horrible. i think im gonna invest in a new pair of earphones. hope i dont get any compatibility issues which bug other users
I love the stock music player that came with my galaxy s because of it's ability to play music in 5.1 ch.
However, I have now flashed the latest MIUI to my sgs but the music player is not able to play music in 5.1 ch, so I was wondering if anyone of you guys know an app that can do this?

5.1ch is just a sound effect. You can get it on any player app with basic tweaks to the equalizer settings.

With 5.1ch people usually mean that instead of stereo (which is 2 channels, left + right) you have 4 additional channels (Center + Back left + Back Right + LFE or Bass (.1))
Your phone only has one speaker so I'm not sure how you want to achieve this.
The audio output is only capable of sending out stereo as well.
A source file with multi-channel audio is usually in *.vob format (DVD video format) but I know of no player that will show this on Android (except for the Archos Gen8 stock video player).
Audio only files would typically be in *.wav or *.ac3 format but same here, I know of no player that will play these multi-channel streams.

The stock galaxy s music player was able to simulate 5.1 ch (when headphones were plugged in) which provided a very nice boost in sound quality. What I'm looking for is either a port of that music player to MIUI or another music player that is able to do the same thing (or some eq settings that does it would also be fine).

That option is a load of bull XD.When you listen you only have 2 speakers assuming you are using earplugs which makes 2.0 the highest you can achieve. You shouldn't bother about it... just a stupid tweak that imho makes the sound sound worse...

And yes i find the sound nice to. And like other people said there are ways to get this trough EQ settings but so far i havnt got it the same as the stock player one

All I was saying that the option is stupid and it's fake it doesnt provide 5.1ch surround sound and I thought he was thinking that and I was helping his out of his dream (read his 3rd post... this is the case here..). If this is the case my comment is valuable if this isn't well.. he'll just do nothing with the information... It's a win anyway, he has nothing to lose, playing around with a EQ is way better ;/. Install voodoo sound tbh if you want a good musical experience...

The 5.1ch option was not stupid, even though it was fake. It made the sound much clearer and better on all headphones I used.

I had 5.1 available when I was using a gingerbread version I got from here. Now I can't seem to find one Pretty sure it was Calkulon or something along those lines. It was way better sound (with headphones) in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a current version that will deliver that "fake" surround

On a side note, I got Jellybean using a vid a watched from QBking77 on youtube, and he references you guys alot.
There are some bugs with Jelly Bean... For instance my mic cuts out when I hold the phone to my face and the screen goes off. Bluetooth headset... NOT A CHANCE lol. On speakerphone i can talk just fine. Headset, works great too. Sometimes I have to pull the battery because the screen dims. But for the most part, it works great.
Having been almost in some sort of heaven with this new tab the last days. However one big problem I just noticed when today bringing the device outdoors for music-listening: the audio quality is terrible.
Now tested with different flac's, 320 kbps MP3's and mp4-video's with sound from the internal speaker or connected to headphones (Sehnheisser and Philips), Technics amplifier, Logitech PC-speakers (two different types,one cheap other expensive). Sound quality is bad on all of them. Compared to my Galaxy phone it is like the difference between a Rols Royce and a Trawant car. Very unnatural metallic sound. And also very quickly (hardly extra bass and/or gain) distrorting. While bass of equalizer (different apps) and not too loud volume one speaker-side of my Sehnheiser headphone blew out..
Anyone else also not happy about audio-quality? Or is there a solution? And what is a good audio-manager for rooted stock Android 4.3? On my phone DSP-Manager for instance works perfectly, but that is not avaible for Nexus 7/2.

I rooted my n7.2 2 days after getting it. But didn't get a chance to try out the audio quality until I flashed AwesomeBeats. With correct parameters for my satisfaction, the sound quality was awesome, more than my ol HTC Desire. So the suggestion is to flash an audio mod, and see to the parameters for better audio results. The best profile for internal speakers is higher treble, and low, or almost no bass.
I am a huge fan of sound, and have extensively customised all my audio devices, from my pc's internal speakers, to my home-made amplifier and woofer system. ViperFX seems better for my external speaker system, due a larger equalizer, while AwesomeBeats is better for my earphones(also my own)
Another suggestion is to tweak all audio parameters for the audio mod you flash.
try fauxsound app to make it LOUDER, i know it works good but it distorts the sound
or try that viper4 mod for headphone sound quality
The DAC is perfectly fine. The headphone amp has a very high output impedance (38 Ohm), so you may get frequency shifts with headphones. I have a Galaxy S i9000 with Voodoo sound and IMO, the difference between the DACs is very small (there is a big difference driving headphones directly).
You may have a mixer/equalizer setting somewhere that causes clipping and the metallic sound.
The Cyanogenmod based ROMs should come with DSP Manager. I'm fairly sure the CM10.2 nightlies include it; Slim Bean definitely does.

I have i9000 too and sometimes use DSP other times I activate Voodoo. With eather one, but also with both turned off the sound of the i9000 is very superior. On the Nexus I have only tried equalizer within music player apps and without. Also I read a lot more complaints about dissappointing audio quality of new Nexus around the web and also on some reviews and included discussions on major tech-sites.

Same here, it just doesnt sound as good as my nexus 10 from samsung. Im using earphone audeo 323 something like that. But did u try with poweramp, works for me at least. This is making me less likely to listen to music lol. Getting nexus 5 to replace it for music.
I have tried a lot of music players, PowerAmp Trial included. Not any (or that big) difference in quality compared to different other music players as far I can remember. The user interface is great, but PowerAmp and almost very other music players lack one for me very important feature: samba (smb) support to stream music from my NAS/WDTV Live and Windows Shares.
Found only three musicplayers with very stable smb-stream support: Neutron (trial), XenoAmp and ArmAmp. All the only few other music players with smb were not good enough because of unstable stream or missing features such as lockscreen-support, etc. Neutron and especially XenoAmp are terrible to use concerning their user interface.
ArmAmp is not as fancy as some other music players, but it excels in user friendlyness. Has the for me major important features such as eq and lockscreen-support. And last but not least outstanding quality of smb-streaming from my NAS/WDTV Live. So I bought the ad remover from that app. It streams my music from my Google Drive also perfectly by the way.
(BS Player not so nice interface and misses lockscreen and equalizer (eq) but streams smb great also. Media Players of ES Explorer and Total Commander stream smb-shares also very good but are way too limited in options also).
But I have tried a lot of music players with only local play-support on my Nex7/2. Even too much to mention. They don't fix poor audio quality of device.
A reason to buy PowerAmp by the way might be if stock Android 4.3 had Cifs-support, so you can open all files of NAS/Windows Shares as if they were locally on Android device. Works great on my Galaxy S1 with Slim Bean 4.2.2. Google however broke support for Cifs in recent Android version(s). How I miss that...Looking forward to someone having a solution for that. It makes me even consider a custom rom while one of the major great things of the Nexus is the possibility of OTA-updates.

The reason i have made this thread is because there's a feature in Poweramp for Android on my Moto G which i really want to be able to get on my Windows PC, so i thought i'd ask on here to see whether anyone knew of a program or something to do the same job.
In Poweramp while listening to a track, on the main album artwork screen with the basic controls, there is a button which looks like a dial at the top which takes you to a screen where the sound balance, equalizer and equalizer presets can be modified. But there's also a dial which controls the bass boost, and this is the feature i want to get on my Windows PC.
Sure, i can modify the levels of bass to a degree using the equalizer built into Dolby Home Theater program on the computer, but i can't turn up the bass to the level i would like it. If i use the equaliser built into my music centre on the computer (Which is MusicBee), it results in distortion. Poweramp on Android is rather unique because i can turn the bass up to literally bone-shaking levels without any distortion whatsoever using the bass boost dial underneath the equalizer settings. Anyone who has used a proper decent pair of headphones with Poweramp should definitely know what it's like! I'm using a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50's and it sounds great.
So what i'm getting at is, does anyone know a program with a good bass booster for Windows, just like Poweramp's bass booster on Android?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked the DFX Manager website, but when i found it i realized it was a program i had already downloaded to try and increase the bass levels. I remember quickly removing the program after installing it because the interface was horrible and very outdated! But the main problem was that it made very little difference to the amount of bass coming through the headphones!
I also looked at Viper2Windows, but after installing it i found that it wouldn't work at all. Even after restarting the computer it wouldn't make any difference to the sound output, which is a shame because it looked really good. I Googled the problem and it seems like the program doesn't work with Windows 8.1 because more people are reporting the same issue.
So please can i ask whether anyone has some more suggestions?
