Just got my Note II, yesterday. No real issues besides not experiencing the spectacular battery life everyone else in the world has been talking about, and another minor, yet very irritating annoyance: I am using the stock clock/weather widget that comes on the Note II. I guess it's a jelly bean widget. I have ALL of the location features enabled in 'settings,' and I also have set the weather to update every hour.
What I've noticed is that the weather rarely updates when I'm at home, but it will update when I travel around town from city to city. And when I try to manually force an update while at home by hitting the refresh icon, the icon will just continuously spin for a ridiculously long time, before timing out without updating. This happens over WiFi or if I'm using AT&T LTE.
Is anyone else having these issues, and if so, is there so setting I have/don't have enabled, that's making it so the weather will not manually update??
Mine acted funny the first day or two but is fine now. Did you try rebooting? Not sure why mine cleared up. I did go in and disabld a lot of the bloat ware through app manager. Haven't rooted yet.

Did you turn off GPS? It won't work if you enabled "Enable Current Location" in the widget configuration and the GPS is turned off.
Mines did the same thing until I flashed CleanROM Lite Edition v1. Im using HD widgets btw.

I love HD widgets but I really like the stock Jelly Bean clock/weather widget. Maybe I'll try HD widgets in the near future, but happy with stock. The one thing about HD widgets that is supremely superior, is the weather options and information.

The same thing is happening to me when I try to manually update (clocks forever). I'm about ready to trash the widget.

I'm not sure what's happened, but ever since I did a restart after the person I quoted suggested it, I haven't had anymore issues. It updates manually, now. Try a restart and update immediately afterwards to see what happens.

Since I updated to the latest Fresh I've noticed 4G is always enabled by default with a reboot. I don't remember this ever happening before.
Anyone else experience this, and is there a way to disable it? I don't have 4G anywhere near me, and would like to not have to remember to disable it with every reboot....
Do you use switchPro widget? That happens to me when i use a sense rom and I restart if i have a switchpro widget out.
Same here : whenever I reboot the phone 4G is enabled... I don't reboot my phone that often but I keep remembering to turn it off.

I was blaming my 4g widget as well. Do we know this for a fact though? I havent taken the time to test.
A Fix?
Hey fellas,
I just put on the FreshEvo 3.4 on my EVO.
Now I have the '4g enabled at boot' issue.
Did you find any solution to this issue?
Thanks,
Ian
I don't use Fresh. But I was using the "Quick Settings" app. I noticed that it automatically turned on 4G on boot. Then it would constantly try to turn it on throughout the day randomly.
Everything was fine until the last update of Quick Settings.
AH HA!
[update: I uninstalled quicksettings too. No go. doing a power-on still has the 4G enabled.]
I have removed beautiful widgets and extended controls, which were new installs after FreshEvo.
Hmmm... well, the QuickSettings (which has beena GREAT app) dev comes out with updates all the time.
I'll try contacting him about the issue...
Thanks for mentioning that as an issue!!! I'll try freezing the app (thanks to Titanium) and reboot and see if that fixes the issue.

I am fairly sure that is the issue. It even happens when taking your phone out of Airplane mode. I've watched as 4G tries to fire up after taking it off. Hopefully the dev will release another update so I can go back to using Quick Settings.
still an issue...
I froze beautiful widgets and QuickSettings (using Titanium). Did a reboot, 4G on soon as the phone came up.
I'll keep searching. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. The perils of rooting, I guess! LOL
My phone won't shut the hell up! It's randomly doing text to speech on email/text/web. I don't want this at all and I can't figure out how to disable it. This started right after updating to ICS. I have a custom rom but my wife has the same phone and the stock OTA ICS and we're both having the same issue.
Other people have to be having the same issue.. how do I stop it?

There is some stock widget in Touchwiz roms (Vlingo?)with a driving mode option. Its a widget with 3 icons and one of them looks like a car, make sure that is off.

Only way that could happen is if driving mode randomly turns itself on and off. I removed that widget and never use it. I don't use the alarm either which I see people mentioning in another thread. We were fine until ICS. Any ideas if there is something else that could cause it to do that?
Maybe something got messed up or left on. Also check under Settings and Accessibility.
I have been setting up and play with this version for a couple of hours. I was fighting with Kies to recognize the phone and finally had to uninstall / reinstall again to get it to work. Makes no sense since I backed up before the update. Regardless i was able to recover my SMS and Phone logs which is the only thing I did not have backed up.
Here are the fixes that I have found so far:
1. Keyboard backlight of course.
2. Menu buttons light up now when they are touched. No longer have to touch screen (this was a big one for me).
3. SMS notifications work correctly although I had switched to SMS Pro to solve and I love it now.
4. Other notifications seem to be working ( calendar, alarm, etc.) but I was already using Volume Ace which fixed these as well.
5. Accuweather application rotates through my chosen cities now. I had not realized this was not working properly but always had to open the app to switch cities.
So far so good with some of the major items fixed. #2 was really bothering me for a long time since I was alway hunting for the right button in the dark.

Still have not found a link to download any version of this update.
Someone had posted that GPS is fixed as well, something that I and a few others have been battling with - it taking minutes, if ever, locking a signal and location.
Can you confirm GPS ? Did you have issues w/ it before?
I'll be playing with this Rom this weekend.

I had seen people having problems with GPS but I never experienced that issue. Perhaps I just do not use it enough but when I use it as navigation while driving with the built in apps, the location was always correct for me. I used it out of state a few times and my location seemed to stay locked.
I was basically using the stock ROM LH2 before with just the Keyboard light fix. No Root or other changes except CWMR for backups.

Tethering and 4G Symbol
Hi,
ICS looks great for me, i flashed the Stock rom (I927UCLJ3_I927ATTLJ3_ATT) from samfirmware.com via ODIN, but there are still 2 problems.
First:
Is there any way to unlock USB Tethering and Mobil Hotspot?
Second:
What´s about the 4G Symbol, i´m living in Germany and on GB i saw the 3G or H (for HSDPA+) Symbol now its a 4G
I´m not sure if the 4G search process reduces the battery livetime wahtsoever, is it possible it switch it back?
Thx and have a nice Day
Oh. P.s. is ist possible to Root the Stock rom, and kill all the damn AT&T app´s and change the gps.conf?
Well, about the GSM and notification issues: they were not fixed. I noticed one thing, that this problem is repeatable if you use Alarm clock (stock or not - does not matter).
You wake up, diable the alarm, after that, if you dont touch and turn on your phone - it will hang in a while, until you turn it on. So the GSM/Wifi statuses change rapidly after turning on, time advance in status bar very fast.
This issue makes me miss calls and have repeatable notifications
Why does the name of my provider always appears in the notification bar?..

This bug was reported so many times now, I don't understand, why this bug is not fixed in 4.0.4. Does anybody has some informations about a fix for this boring problem?

GPS works for me, but I have to wait a lot for first time position fix.
Literom 0.8.4 finally has GPS fixed. I was cruising around with it, it was as accurate as my TomTom and fixed about as fast.
TheGreaterGood found the fix and embedded it .. huge thumbs up! Follow Instructions in the OP .. .I installed everything, literom kernel 1.1.1, stock modem and stock everything else, north america for gps config and after it fixed the first time, it started fixing right away in doors and out.. I'm very happy w/ this Rom.
This is driving me insane. I'm running stock 4.2, and my phone keeps randomly rebooting in my pocket. I've never used a different ROM, only rooted. Only thing I could say is that I tried to use SuperUser to keep my root after the OTA upgrade, and it did not keep it successfully (is that actually possible yet, btw? I know the GNex Toolkit doesn't seem to support it).
No ideas here. I know I can reset, and I probably will at this point, but.. any causes?
I had the same problem and I find out that hd widget app is making my phone to reboot. After I uninstalled the app I don't have the rebooting problems. If you have the same app try to uninstall it and see if the revolting stops.

I do have that app, and the thought crossed my mind - I was wracking my brain to remember whether or not the rebooting began before or after that install a few days ago.. I will uninstall it and see what happens. Thank you!
Shoot, because I hate the stock lockscreen clock on 4.2
EDIT: Went to uninstall, and my phone soft-rebooted. Guess that answers that..

Pretty sure the reboots are location service related and a bug in 4.2. Hard for me to tell, because I am on AOSP which is a bit different in that regard.

That's what I hear. Which I don't get because I don't use the weather widget, only the clock (unless you're talking time zones or something). Or unless you mean I don't have GPS enabled and it's trying to use it?
I also heard it's from a bug with Google on the 3rd party lockscreen widgets in general.
I've had several random reboots since I got a Fitbit Flex on 5/3. It links to the phone via BT 4.0.
I run Perseus kernel, so it could be the newest update, but my wife runs full stock unrooted and said her phone restarted this weekend. She has a Fitbit Flex paired with her phone also.
Anybody else have a Fitbit Flex or other BT 4.0 device and getting random reboots?
No! but now that you say that. Glad I'm thinkin on getting the Jawbone up. In a week or so.
I would try that one and see if you get the same results. I'm quite sure they both do the same thing!!

I did a lot of research into these things, and I looked at the UP. A few things I didn't like about the UP: It's too thick all around, isn't comfortable to use while typing on a keyboard, have to take it off and plug it into your phone to sync, people lose the little cap on the device all the time. I'm happy with the Flex so far, just noticed this freezing and reboot the past few days (which could be kernel related, not ruling it out).

At least 2 a day. It's hard to judge because I'll pull it out and notice that the keyboard has been reset to the Samsung default, which occurs after a reboot. I was using it today and it just froze up and restarted, stuck at the Samsung logo, and required a battery pull.
are you over clocked or underclocked? What perseus settings did you mess with?
Try flashing a different rom/kermel..

I've been on SKY ROM 8.2 for months and haven't had restarts. Always on the newest Perseus, currently 36.3. I don't change the settings.
I flashed Sean Z's stock modded ma4 kernel and still had reboots.
Think I might try going back to Perseus 35 to see how that works for me today.

Well, I'm pretty certain that this is either Fitbit or bluetooth 4.0 related.
I tried several different remedies, and my phone was still frozen each morning when woke up. Finally, I disabled background BT 4.0 syncing in the Fitbit app, and have not had a freeze/reboot since then.
Anybody else have a Fitbit Flex or other BT 4.0 device and experience this same behavior?
I have had a fitbit since Christmas, but only recently started having reboot/freezing issues. If I turn off my bluetooth at night, it is never frozen in the morning. Forgot last night and it was frozen this morning.
As for talk of the Jawbone Up, I had six of them over the course of about 5 months, would never recommend one. It will also catch on things since it doesn't link. It was a nice idea, just didn't seem executed very well.

If you've had it since Christmas, I assume it's a One instead of a Flex? I see that the One has BT 4.0 syncing also. I think they just recently enabled the BT 4.0 syncing in an app update, so that may be why yours started freezing.
I recommend you try the same thing I did. Go into the device settings in the Fitbit app and disable background syncing. The app will still sync when you open it, but won't do it periodically overnight. I don't know if it's background syncing that causes an issue, or if it's the higher frequency of syncs when background sync is enabled that causes a higher probability of freezing.

You are correct, I have the One, with problems starting with the latest update. I didn't have the lockups with the background synch before it.
It doesn't really bother me to much, just inconvenient to have to pull the cover and battery occasionally for a freeze.
I will try your suggestion though and disable background synch and see if it solves the problem. Thanks.

Ive had the same problems ever since Ive gotten my fitbit flex as well, and Im on stock and have never rooted
Glad to see I'm not crazy. I'm 100% sure this is something to do with the Note II and Fitbit Flex. I updated the Fitbit app last week and noticed that day that my phone was unresponsive at work. I had to pull the battery and restart it, then I saw the Fitbit app had gone back to background updates when I updated it, causing the freeze.
Prior to that, it had been almost 2 months since my phone froze, corresponding exactly with when I turned off background sync.
What a bummer, because I like background sync. I'm not sure if this is caused by the Fitbit app (or service), or if it's the Note II's BT 4.0.
Same problem here with Fitbit Flex and G Note II on T-Mobile
I've been experiencing the same thing with my Flex and Note II on T-Mobile. Running Jedi Master 14.
Phone will lockup overnight, or at random times during the day.
Going to try and disable the background syncing and will report back.
Random reboots - Fitbit Flex and BT 4.0
I am also having random reboots. I originally thought it was my device and took it to the device support center three times. I finally determined it was one of my apps. After a little trial and error determined it was my Fitbit App. I haven't reinstalled it yet -- my phone hasn't rebooted in 5 days.
Does anyone know for sure if it's just turning off the background sync that resolves the issue? I use NFC and typically open and sync that way.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. As soon as I disabled background sync, the problem went away. I actually did a market research study at their HQ in SF this week and shared my experience. They mentioned knowing about some problems with Samsung phones and that they are working on it.

Excellent! Thanks for the quick reply -- I was certainly missing my Fitbit app. I'll give it a go! Here's to no more random reboots :good:
I'll report back to also confirm for everyone.:fingers-crossed:
I can also confirm with absolute certainty that it's the background sync. I've always encountered random reboots or freezing daily when Fitbit background sync is enabled, and never experienced them when it's disabled.
