Here is a stock rom backup for the Sprint G S III. I made the backup after doing a data wipe, so the rom is pure, no lingering data, ect.
Instructions:
-unzip the .zip file
-move the backup folder into your existing CWM folder on the S III internal memory
-restore in recovery
Again, this is a stock backup as some people need it.

From my dropbox, so hit it easy.
Nice, know of some that will appreciate this.

Give him a break. At least this isn't in development.
And he at least did something that could be useful until we get a real stock rom .zip or .tar

It's not, it's a backup. That's not the point, it's still useful to many users that have possibly screwed their device but still have access to recovery. Especially until something official comes out.
will there be a stock package on odin different than just the stock boot image? my phone is bricked for no apparent reason(see my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731416) and flashing the stock boot image in odin does nothing. i Also cant get into CWM to flash my backup...

Eventually there will be, but a lot of people [to include major developers] still don't have the phone yet, so we'll have to be patient. I looked over it, though currently are you able to get into recovery still or no? Additionally did you try re-flashing the cwm recovery in odin?
I can get into download mode but not into CWMR. The only thing i have tried flashing since it bricked is boot-stock-sprint-sph-l710.tar (which sort of worked the first time). I'm at work and don't have my phone on me so i guess i could try flashing CWMR again later but this is really weird. Thanks for the reply. This is my first Sprint phone, but on my Droid X we had a program similar to Odin where you could push a .sbf file that included everything stock and basically just reset your phone to stock. Do these exist for Sprint phones? The . SBF files were usually rather large(around 350mb or so) but the boot-stock-sprint-sph-l710.tar is around 10 or 15 mb so i know it doesn't include all the system files...
Thanks again

Lol i just replied the same thing over on another thread he posted in. Stop jumping around pizzle! if you can get into Odin chances are good you can flash cwm and then restore the backup
hahaha sorry about that. When I try and boot into recovery it looks like its about to go to Recovery and then freezes on the Galaxy S III screen. I'll try reflashing CWMR when I get home...Thanks for the advice
So is a back up a nandriod?
I have made a few but never resorted one, you just flash it same as a ROM and your done?
I misplaced my stock nandroid when I flashed CM10 build 2 and my extFs SD card had to be formatted to use again, I was sure I had in on PC but can't find it.
Thanks!
This has become quite infuriating.
I was on The Hybrid 1.3 when by phone was randombly freezing. I needed to pull the battery to reset it. This caused ALL of my apps to lose their data. (Facebook was logged out, netflix was logged out, Titanium backup lost its direction to the folder on my SD card)
I thought this was odd, so I downloaded another ROM to try and fix the problem. I downloaded the new rom and went into recovery. Flashed new rom, cleared cache, cleared dalvik, but then as I tried to do a factory reset in CWM my phone resets and comes back to recovery. This happens every single time I try to do it in CWM.
ROM booted fine but has many wierd problems (probably that go with being unable to factory reset)
So i downloaded TWRP and tried flashing that by odin, only to get an unfixable bootloop.
So odin'd back to CWM, factory reset problem still persists.
So at this point I decided to go back to stock and turn this phone in because there is no reason it should be doing this.
And now my frustration about trying to get back to the stock ROM. WHY THE HELL IS THERE NOT AN ODIN FLASHABLE STOCK ROM?! Or any rom for that matter.
In CWM i have to put all .zips on my external SD, because the internal one REFUSES to mount.
The .zip from HERE is not working for me at all. I try to flash it and it says it completes in about a second. I reboot and it just stays at the samsung screen and never goes any further.
I remember back with my Captivate, if anything went wrong as long as you got back into download mode, you could one click odin your way back to normal and start all over. It's like every thread in this devices forum is purposefully vague and confusing, things are not explained well at all and people talk about mysterious version of files and things without ever actually providing a link.
This is becoming a real pain in the ass to try and get my phone back to stock or even useable again. Does anyone have any ideas?
I just tried looking for you and wow, i didn't realize that we really don't have a flashable ODIN stock rom....

We do have ODIN flashable stock firmware...(stock rom, kernel, modem, recovery). go the Android DEV forum.. STICKY "One Stop Shop for Note2". In there you'll find everything you need. Look under section 5 "FIRMWARE". You can also go to SamMobile.com website... under "Firmware", and in the search box, type "I317". The downloads are "zip", but those are not flashable zip... download that file and use 7-ZIP to extract the tar (xxxxxx.tar.md5"). Use that tar in Odin. Follow instructions in sticky for how to load file/use Odin if not familiar.
I am trying to flash the SuperNexus 3.0 ROM to my D710 E4GT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208729
I downloaded the file and tried to open it in the PDA tab of ODIN like I normally would when flashing a device.
There isn't a TAR or MD5 file to open inside of the ZIP file.
I know that I'm missing something and I've searched around but I haven't found anything that points me in the correct direction.
Could somebody point me to what I am missing? Is there a tutorial for installing ROMS from a ZIP that I missed?
Thanks!
-Mike
You're probably the only person I know that doesn't flash using zips lol. Just boot up recovery and install zip. Pretty simple to navigate. This will explain it better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761666

Thanks for the reply I'll check the page out that you posted.
I am a total noob. I've crept the forums and used Odin to flash a lot.
I guess, I'm surprised by the .zip comment. Not because I know anything about anything (By now this should be obvious) but because when you look at a tutorial on flashing your phone, it always points at using odin.
It's one thing to root your phone with Odin and another to flash a custom Rom. All the custom roms are zip files and in the original post of the threads they tell you exactly the best way to flash the Rom.

OK. That makes sense. I'm reading that now in the thread you handed to me.
Thanks again!
I knew the info existed, I needed some help getting to it and wrapping my head around it.
It's refreshing to ask an honest question because I'm over-whelmed and not get flamed out.
Yeah the instructions in that thread are not noob friendly. I hope the sticky can help you out. Use the el26 or el29 kernel packed with clockwork mod available in the kernel repo. You can find it in the Android development forum at the top. Use that kernel and recovery combo to safely flash any rom. Also going to jb you need to do an Odin rooted restore of a stock jb Rom in order to partition everything correctly. You'll be able to find this in Android development too. Sorry I can't provide much links im on my phone at work so it'll take me a bit to link.

So I went to the Kernel Download Page and all of the links to el26 with CWM were dead.
I dug around some more and found this:
w w w. rwilco12.com/Files/Devices/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S2%20%28Sprint%29%20%28SPH-D710%29/Tutorials/SPHD710-Root. p h p
[Can't post URL, new user]
I went with Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
It looked like what I needed to root with recovery so that I could install the SuperNexus ROM.
Now, my phone has been stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S II screen with the yellow triangle for a half an hour.
Did I miss something else?

Pull your battery, put it back in, hold the vol up and power until it loads up in recovery. Clean cache, then clean Dalvic cache(in Advanced Menu), Find the zip you want on your sd card install zip. It should boot into your new rom. The CWM repack you used is not the one I would have, but it probably is just the repack kernal and cant boot your phone.

Sweet! I'm figuring some things out now!
I actually had GB on the device. I got it from the factory yesterday. Apparently it had a higher OS on it. So I had to go put a GB kernel on it.
I couldn't find the one with CWM but this one has AGAT

once you get the phone set up, get Mobile Odin and keep this .tar files on your sd card. If I Mobile Odin back to this .tar then I can get a clean install on any new rom. this is the name of the file you are looking for, we have been requested not to provide direct links
StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5
If you phone boot loops again have thie zip as well. Pull batt, then press vol up and power to get to CWM recovery then clean and flash
EL26_StockCWM.zip
As you will see when you get more experienced, there is more than one way to skin the cat. This is what I do and it works every time.

That's great! Thank you!
I picked up the Stock EL26 loads.
To make sure I understand when you say that you can get a clean install on any new rom, you mean that you can install StockCWM-EL26 first and then throw the ROM on and it works right?
Also as a note, I have gotten the SuperNexus ROM running on my machine. I don't have 3G data yet. I'm still working on it. I installed the latest ICS modem and changed the xml file that was suggested. I then updated the permissions on the file to what the other files in the directory had and rebooted. Still nothing... I'm not sure if this is your wheel-house and you've already helped me tremendously! I'm digging around trying to find answers.
(I can't post on the SuperNexus dev forum yet. I'm going to look for a support forum or something to post on.)

First - Yes, when I want to change roms, I use mobile odin to flash the .tar EL26 CWM kernal. Pull Batt if needed and then Vol up and power to get to CWM. Then I follow the ROM developer's instructions. reboot and almost always get a good clean install.
Second - I use my phone all day for work so I dont mess with the AOSP Roms much. I like them a lot, but I cant have data/connection issues interfere with my lively-hood so I mostly stay on the TW side of things. Cant help you there, sorry...

In this step for SN, what rom did you get the xml from? "NAVIGATE TO system/etc and look for apns-conf.XML and delete it. Then grab one from another ROM that has working data then paste it into the same directory and fix permissions and reboot".
That might be the issue. You need to make sure that a) you have an ICS modem(FL24) is the latest, and make sure you're not flashing it through mobile Odin, it won't take, and b) you have a working apn-conf.xml file from a rom with working data. Dastin15's Wild For The Night is also 4.2.2, and last I checked, had working data. Might give that a go. Good luck!

Of all the things I have screwed up, I can't believe my first post asking for help is this one. I have been rooting and installing custom ROM's since the EVO. Always found the help I needed in someone else' thread. But this has me stumped.
I am a ROM jumper. Do it all the time. Yesterday, I was having some performance issues with my Note2 so I thought I would do a full wipe and try out another ROM. I also wiped my internal storage. My recover at that time was philz_touch_6.19.3-t0ltetmo. Somehow, I ended up wiping everything and I couldn't boot into anything other than Download mode.
Still no biggie. Wait until I got home and I would flash some with via Odin on my Windows netbook. It never worked. It would maybe get to 25% complete and hang. I left it running for about an hours with no results. Then I moved to my Linux desktop and installed Heimdall. Used that to put philz_touch_6.19.3-t0ltetmo back on the device. Then I installed cm-10.2-20140309-NIGHTLY-t0ltetmo.zip via sideload.
Stuck on smiling robot with a circle.
So I sideloaded CARBON-KK-NIGHTLY-20140302-0859-t0ltetmo.zip. Stuck on the logo there too. aokp_t0ltetmo_kitkat_nightly_2014-02-25.zip same thing. I try pushing the ROM's instead of sideloading. No luck.
So I am thinking that maybe I got a bad philz recovery. Redownload that, and go through the same list of roms. Nothing. OK... so maybe philz has become a POS for some reason on my phone. I try openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-t0ltetmo.zip and repeat all the steps above. Wiping and sideloading, then wiping and pushing... stuck on logo.
I have to say I am stumped. I am losing nerd cred by asking for help, but dammit I am stumped. Any help appreciated.

Eww. Does that have to be flashed via Odin/Heimdall or can I use my established recovery? Also, I looked at some of those earlier and they are all in ZIP format. Odin wants TAR.MD5. Is it as simple as unziping and then tar-ing? I don't see an option to TAR.MD5.

The easiest option would be to flash the tar.md5 file using ODIN.
If you are 4.3 bootloader you can flash this MrRobinson's ROM
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760975435
If you are 4.1.2 bootloader you can flash this ROM, download link on post#1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2636552
If you plan to flash it using Heimdall you will have to first extract the tar.md5 file and then flash all ROM components.
Your command should be something like this, please note I have not tried flashing using Heimdall so I am not 100% it will work.
sudo heimdall flash --BOOT boot.img --RECOVERY recovery.img --SYSTEM system.img --CACHE cache.img --HIDDEN hidden.img --RADIO modem.bin

Good stuff, thank you cipher.
Perhaps I am missing something here though. I went to check which version bootloader I have. I just assumed I would have 4.3 since I have been running JB & KK rom's for the past month or so; but I wanted to double check. When I boot into recovery, it doesn't show it there. When I boot into download mode, it doesn't show it there either. Where should I be seeing the version number?
When you boot into download mode do you see KNOX Warranty Void below system status ?
If not then your phone is not on 4.3 bootloader.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it shows KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 1
So then I have 4.3. Thanks for the info. When I get home tonight, I will try and flash MrRobinson's ROM then report back. Thank you for the help & I will post my results then.
Well, that took care of it. I was able to use MrRobinson's ROM & Heimdall. I did have to download a PIT file, but that was easily found here on xda. Within minutes I had the gawd awful Samsung TW blooping and making stupid noises. Went ahead and flashed TWRP and I am downloading CarbonRom now.
Thanks for the help cipher. It was driving me nuts.
um... mark as solved?
I tried to edit my original post to mark it as solved, but there isn't an option. How do I change my title?
Well, I spoke too soon. I just discovered that I have no cell service. Went to look and found I have no IMEI # anymore. WTF?
Looks like you flashed a modem for a different device.
No worries, just flash the modem from Mr Robinsons ROM and that should take care of it.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I wish it were that simple. I just reflashed MrRobinsons and it is back to Samsung recovery and rom. Still no IMEI. I am going to go full retard and flash the one from SamMobile. I'll erport back later.
Mrrobinsons ROM is the stock rom, it's just root injected and Knox-free.
Try KIES emergency recovery method.
You can find link for procedure in this forum in one of the posts.

Just saw this and I am on my way to work. With no Admin priviledge there, I will have to try this when I get home.
I appreciate the time you have taken to help me cipher.
OKay, I downloaded Kies and it saw my phone. However, it says my phone is fine and will not do an emeregency recovery. After searching on here some more, I found this thread:

It's possible that Emergency Recovery is no more. I am just about done with this phone. It's been three days and I need a working phone again.

Ok first off, dont have tmobile, but i do have a note (verizon)
What do you mean when you say you are "sideloading" "pushing" a ROM.. Bc normally in recovery you "flash" a rom.
So let's make sure you are doing just that..?
If you are "flashing" a rom in recovery and it installs and you reboot and you are stuck.. thats a different issue..
I would recommend getting your stock Odin tar and flashing it..Make sure it contains a boot.img and if you guys use a pit file.. use that as well..
Post here with some answers and results..Lets see if we can get you back in buisness..
I have HARD bricked my phone, fired eMMC, softed bricked..pretty much been through everything so hopefully we can figure it out!:good:

Originally, I could not boot into any rom. I could get into recovery. In order to get a rom onto the phone, I could download the zip file to my computer and inside the recovery turn on sideload to move the file to the phone and flash. And Even then I never got any of the roms to get past the boot logo. Cyanogenmod, Carbon-rom, AOKP... none of them.

Oh, I agree. I stepped away from it for about 8 hours a day while at work. Thats when I did most of my reading though. I am pretty sure this is going up for sale on ebay this week. I already bought a new phone. Thank you for taking the time to reply though.

Have you tried flashing the latest firmware, and if yes is this where you got it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380
Also did you read post #2 about going back into recovery, do a factory reset and reboot?
And were you getting these roms that would loop you in this forum, just making sure i know it may sound stupid..
Also, what was the estimated time you were waiting for them to boot..5mins, 10mins, 20mins.. Some take longer than others..
The only other thing i could suggest is JTAG services, by MobileTechVideos, the owner's name is Josh, stand up guy, and I belive it much cheaper than buying a new device =)

Yep & yep. I also tried MrRobinsons root injected rom before going this route.

I have had some take as long as 20 minutes before, but that was rare. This time, I actually fell asleep and when I woke up in the morning, it was still on the animated boot logo and hot as hell. Still going though. So it was at least 6 hours thst timr.

I've not heard of this, I'll look them up. Thanks!
How could I in Odin insert a PIT file to remap my filesystem.
Is there one for the TMO S4 or could I simply use one from the gt9505?

You don't.
Remapping the file system is not a current mod and is not recommended to try. One of the 95xx variants had a remapped PIT file done to add a little bit of usable space. (You can't use that one. It will break your 919 device) The risk was high and the benefit was low. It's just so cheap and easy to buy a 32 or 64 GB external SD card that accomplishes the same thing.
I guess basically what I'm trying to achieve is for my phone to be able to install custom roms again. Randomly one day I was unable to install any, for it would just install a few apks from each CustomRom installation zip.
I've tried reinstalling stock and it doesn't fix my issue that most likely lies in the file system of my phone.

That is weird. Did you try to reflash back to stock using Odin? Or by flashing a nandroid of a stock ROM?
If using Odin to flash a stock image doesn't work I'm not sure a pit file would help. The stock .tar image for Odin contains the proper PIT file. So it's getting the PIT file anyway.
I'll try again..
I've tried coming back from Odin many times but I've noticed Odin is pretty sketchy because honestly most of the time oI get FAIL status near the end of stock installation but I keep going until it passes and I've tried going back from NAND. I was going to see this phone because no one on XDA nor me could figure out this tricky issue. Someone pm'd me claiming he has the same issue and I told him I haven't solved it yet. I think tomorrow I'm going to maybe try stock install and then wipe data factory reset after and then boot and then go back to download mode and install recovery and try install wicked or maybe gpe. Btw the last ROM I was running was Gpe by Kot49h danvd I think the name is
