Google Voice problems Urgent help - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The new google voice doesn't let me select to send texts with my cell phone number or to send calls with my cell phone number. It defaults to my google voice number.
The begining of the year, If I sent a text through my messaging app it would use my cell phone number and if I sent it through the google voice app it would send it with my google voice number. I dont know which version I was using.
Ive tried installing installing previous versions.
0.4.1.19
.3.4 (#13)
.3.0
With all three versions I was able to switch my phone so I can make calls with my carrier number and GV number. But all my texts are still showing up with my google voice number!
Current version is 0.4.2.66
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks
I need this fixed ASAP because I use one number for personal use and another for buisness.

You need to file a bug report with Google Voice support.

Did you try clearing defaults in Google Voice and also in the messaging app? It should ask which you would like to use unless you checked the use as default box.

Also go on Google Voice on your computer to set your GV number to your cell phone number. That's what I did and I don't have any problems. Also try going into the settings for GV and click on Sync and Notifications and see if it's having you send texts through GV instead of the messaging app.

Kenny I dont see any defaults on google voice website.
If I understand what your telling me. The messaging app is not the problem. Whats the problem is when I go into the native messaging app and send a text it reads as if My phone has the google voice number. When before If I sent a message through the native messaging app it would use my number and If I sent a message through the google voice app it would use my google voice number.

If I make my cell phone number my primary on GV on the internet I will loose my GV number.
I have both Google Voice Enabled and Receive text messages on this phone under the phones tab in GV settings on the internet.
I tried both sending a text with Sync and Notifications selected and it not selected and both times it doesn't recognize my number when I recieve a text.
I uninstalled the app and tried sending myself a text and I No longer recieved texts through the messaging app. Its like incoming texts are set to my GV number without the app even being in the phone! This is a big problem!!!
Looks like Ill have to do a full reset and hopefully that fixes this!

I mean the Google Voice app on the phone. My GF uses her GV for business and everytime she sends a text it asks her which app she would like to use, GV or Messaging app. She did not integrate her number. If it does it even though you have uninstalled the GV app then it is a setting on the Google Voice website.

Thanks I GOT IT TO WORK.
Texting and calling works now. I can choose to call from my GV number and My Cell number and texting from the native app recognizes my cell number and texting from the google app recognizes my cell number.
What I did was
1. Remove google voice and install version 0.4.1.19
2. Go on GV on the internet and disable google voice to my sprint phone.
It works. Now.

Why not integrate and use your Sprint number as both your cell phone number and your GV number?
Edit: NVM, I didn't read the OP thoroughly.

Yeah, you go to the website
google.voice.com
and you can configure your settings there.
To my knowledge, there's no way to set Google Voice as the primary way to handle voicemail, like there is on the Evo 4G.
I don't have my phone yet (being delivered today), but why would using the instructions from the google voice website not work? What happens when you try?
I think it is *28 then your google voice number.
Google voice voicemail is set between the account and your GV account... it is completely unrelated to the phone. The app can retrieve the VM's and help you setup the voicemail, but it isn't required.
Its working for me.
Hey, quick question. I set up google voice, but now it's my primary phone number for when I text my friends. Is there a way to undo this? Even after uninstalling it, my primary texting number is my google voice number.
Login from a desktop and deactive your google number. You have a limited time before losing your sprint number.

If you go to the website voice.google.com - there's an option in there to integrate voicemail. On the phone settings you can click 'activate google voicemail on this phone'
basically it forwards the call at the last ring to your google voice voicemail and skips your sprint one.
Then that voicemail shows up in the google voice app, or you can set it to email you and even have a written transcript.
That's what I'm set up like. I dig it.
Works fine here. I had a little trouble getting it activated... I think this was because I was expecting it to switch too quickly after I set it up. You have to give it a few min/hours to start rolling your voicemail to Google Voice.
It will ask you to dial *38 and your number and it never works for me. Just make sure you have your sprint phone listed to forward to on the GV settings online and then install the app on your phone and go through the setup on the app and your voicemail will use GV...at least it does for me.
I had to remove it on my NS4G, caused me nothing but problems. And then when I did remove it I had to call sprint and have them reset my account because I was unable to receive calls and callers just got hung up on rather than connected to my voice mail.
I never let Sprint take over my GV number...I made it so I still had the choice to use my sprint or GV number. I ported my number to GV so I could go to any carrier I wanted to and have as many phone ring on the same number. I have a boost phone also that rings my GV number.
I have never been able to get voice mail without the app while my number was integrated. How do you get voicemails without the app? Do you just call your own number?

No you have to have the app
That didnt work out so well for me. If you ported for free because you are on sprint as soon as you cancel your service that number is inactive. I had to choose between my number and this phone and I took the phone and dont regret it one bit

I ported my number when GV started porting long before sprint got involved...I payed 20 bucks for it.

Google Voice texting problem

So I setup google voice at first and it was fine.
I still had my regular phone # and the google #. Both came up correctly when I called someone or texted someone through the stock app or GV app.
Texting was working fine too. Texting through the stock messaging app showed my regular # and texting through the GV app showed my GV #.
I don't know what happened but now all the texts I send through my regular messaging app come up as my GV #. I don't want that. Anyone know how to fix this to make it go back to normal?
So what I want is...
People I call using my regular sprint # see my regular sprint # on their caller id
People I text using the stock messaging app see my regular sprint # as their contact
People I call using my GV # see my GV # on their caller id
People I text using the GV app see my GV # as their contact
I don't know how to fix your problem, but porting my sprint # to gv and dropping my old gv number was the greatest decision I ever made concerning Google Voice. Well....except that time I got invited and signed up.
Then everything just comes from one number. But maybe you want it separate for a reason.
Again, sorry I don't know how to fix your issue. Good luck!

The problem is the wasn't an issue yesterday and now today it is acting all weird. Something in my settings must have made it freak out and that is what I need to find out.
I want both numbers to be separate because one number is from a different state and when people see it in my current state it looks a little suspect, if that makes any sense.
I disabled the GV # on the web and now the phone is acting fine with my real # but would like to use GV so wanted to see what settings I need to choose to get it to correctly work like before.
So this hasn't happened to anyone else or does no one frequent the general part of this board?
Sprint numbers can now fully integrate with Google Voice. Try deactivating Google Voice integration with your spring number then reactivating it - IIRC, it will give you a choice whether you want to be fully integrated or keep the number separate.

Gonna give that a try...thanks. Is there anyway to have google voice only log my texts from the GV # and be able to disable the texts through my regular sprint #?
Seems unnecessary having the texts also go into the GV inbox when I don't want them to. Wish I could turn that off.

Once you get your numbers split, GV should stop logging texts from your native phone number.

So if everything is working properly my sprint #s texts will go to my messaging app and my GV texts will just be in the GV inbox and everything will be totally separate...correct?
Is there some specific settings I need to change online on the GV site to make it all work properly?

I believe this is set through the initial setup (when you FIRST activate your phone for google voice)
Looks like I might have got it working again. Still getting regular texts in GV inbox tho.

[Q] Text Message Not Sent

If I send a text message from the default messaging app, I get a "Text Message Not Sent" message, and if someone sends me a message, instead of showing up with their name, it has a number I don't recognize, but their name will be appended to the message. I don't have these issues if I use Google Voice.
I KNOW it has something to do with GV settings, but I've tried everything I can think of to reset it, including clear data on both apps, uninstall and reinstall of GV. I even tried changing radios. I really do NOT want to do a factory reset. I suppose I can use the rather anemic GV app for texts, but if someone texts my "real" phone number, I think I won't get notified of it.
Is there some setting I'm missing, or some third-party app that can unify texting across both numbers?
Wait now... So first off, when someone texts you, they're sending it to your Google Voice number?
And when you send texts out, which number are you trying to use?
The first part of troubleshooting here is to go into Google Voice settings and tell it to not receive texts via the Messaging app. If you're going to be using only your GV # for SMS, just use the Google Voice app. Don't have it forward to your Messaging app it just causes problems (like random #'s as you've seen).
It keeps things simple. When you get an SMS to your Messaging app, you know it was sent to your carrier #. You reply and it comes from your carrier #.
When you get an SMS in your GV app, you know it came to your GV # and when you reply it comes from your GV #.
This really is the simplest way to manage it if you want to be able to use both your carrier # and the GV #.
Regardless, GV should never get in the way and prevent you from sending texts from the Messaging app.
The problem is that it doesn't matter what I have the GV app set to. I still can't send texts from my messaging app. Even if i uninstall GV, i still can't send texts from my messaging app.

I think you're having a separate issue. In all of my time using Google Voice in different configurations there's nothing that has stopped my stock Messaging app from sending and receiving SMS to my carrier #.

Can't get google voice, voicemail to work

I am not getting any voicemails on Google voice. I have Google Voice selected for "Voicemail service" and I am running Wicked V2. I have never used Google voice before so I don't know if its Wicked or what. When I get a voicemail I get a notification saying that I have a new voicemail and when I tap the notification it dials to my voicemail over the phone. When I have a voicemail and open Google Voice, there is nothing in my inbox or under voicemail even after I refresh it.
if you log in to gvoice thru your web browser on your computer, in the settings it'll give you a forwarding code to type into your phone's dialer

Thanks. They should have that info in their app.
I concur. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the phone itself. In the past I never had to set it up this way

I figured out on my own after fumbling through the call settings then additional settings. Figured it out and it worked. 3 weeks layer I began to not get gv mails again.... Somehow the call forwarding reset itself to tmo voice mail. I called them and had them disable my vm feature and gv is back to normal fwiw

I managed to find the forwarding settings myself as well. Now I created a contact with Google's voice mail number because it was such a pain to find on their site. I'll be watching to see if it flips back to T-mobile.

I got mine to work.. finally as well.. but.. i still get my voicemail in Tmobile voicemail and Google voice.. weird.. but.. it works, lol
The fix I used on my phone and works is to insert the following MMI code into your dialer as well as ensuring Google voice is selected as your voice mail **004*1412532****# (insert your Google Voice number after the *after the 004 and insert a # after your number. A message should come up on your phone saying the change was successful. This will also change your forward settings phone numbers as well

Build prop editing

Can anyone tell me if there are any build prop edits for the V410 LTE that would allow the device to make calls and send text messages?
It seems like there must be someway...the thing has a cellular radio in it already. I figure maybe AT&T had them modified to only operate on data.
I'm using a workaround currently and packing the g pad 7.0 as my only device and loving it. But I would love to just have the functionality without the trade-offs.

I appreciate your response. That actually won't solve my issue. I can receive sms to my hangouts messenger but can't send text to other phone numbers from that app. I've only been able to send text from the at&t messenger.
As far as calling, the hangouts dialer is my choice for making calls at the moment. It's a dirty workaround too though. I have my at&t calls forwarded to a talkatone # that rings my tab. But when dialing from my tab I can only show unknown number or my talkatone #.
It works, it's just ugly. Really enjoying the g pad, just want to squeeze every drop out of it.

I think something is misconfigured, I have no issue sending and receiving texts, or making and receiving calls on my G Tab via hangouts. From what I remember, talkatone uses your google voice number, so it would be redundant to use it. You're not going to be able to have outgoing calls show as your cell number only your google voice (talkatone) number.

Hmmm, maybe so. I do not have a Google voice # but picked one out from talkatone. I wonder if I could just port that # to Google voice and scrub talkatone then?
As far as the sms problem, I can send instant messages to anyone in my Google contacts and any sms sent to my cell number will show in hangouts. But any time I've tried to reply or initiate sms to a phone # through hangouts it just gives me a "sending..." but never does. It's actually the same with another favorite sms app, Hello Sms, I receive texts just fine, but cannot send from that app.
