custom rom, can't start phone because all apps keep stopping - HTC One X

I hab ic 12.0.1 running perfectly on my phone. I flashed 12.1.0 over it without a wipe and it worked perfectly. I then thougt why not full wipe it with the 12.1.0 and have fresh start? Thats when the problems began. Twitter Facebook and a bunch of other apps kept fc. Then i thought i install another rom. the maximus 8. WIth that Rom i couldn't even complete the process where you set up your phone because everything kept restarting. even the gapps. i reloccked and locked my bootloader, i flashed everything with a tool, i even tried the firmware update tool again ( i'm on Hboot 1.31) , i flashed the boot.img manually. and i cant get any rom working. i don't know what to do?

of course. with various methods. it seems that the prgramms can't write, or mount on one particular. but i'm really out of ideas. i don't know how to fix this. the only thing i would do next is a ruu. but because of the hboot 1.31 there is no ruu available.

the weirdest thing happend. it seems to be working again. i switsched back to cwtr. wiped everything. and did a clean install with a full wipe with ic 12.2.2 so far no issues. weird thing. because thats the same thing i did the last 2 days.

and this seemed to work. the contact data seems to be the rpoblem? im really lost. but it works for now.

damnit. the phone worked for 1h after that i'm now where i started where nothing works. :/ anyone got a suggestion?

nevermind. i fixed it. since it was flashed over the stock 3.2 rom all of the userdata was still there. a hard wipe did the trick.

So I think you just need to do the same. Do a hardwhipe/soft-reset of the device to whipe the HC user data so ICS can load it's defaults and get you booted up.
P.S. I am still on HC so this info is just based on what I have read so far. I will be upgrading this weekend, unless something unexpected happens that doesn't allow me the time. I think you can do a soft-reset from recovery by toggling the volume in the oposite direction you do for a hard-reset. At least that is what I was told by a support guy a while back. The soft-reset will just whipe user, system, app configuration data, but leaves the firmware in place. the hard-reset will upgrade the firmware(ROM). I think the issue is ICS it's compatible with some of the HC config info and the Update process doesn't automaticly whipe user settings or somthing. *shrug*

The information provided by you is not sufficient. There are some points i would like to know about.
Have u rooted your device?
Are you flashing through ODIN?
ROM version?
Did you make data wipe/ cache wipe before flashing over a previous firmware?
There are many threads associated with this.So please take a look over that.If you don't find answer then we are here to help you

Thanks for Calling me "Sir". But seriously no need to say it. Say it to real developers.
Now coming to the topic,
For your information, keep in mind that when u flash the Official firmware through ODIN, You loose the root access.
Don't restore any backup. Just flash through ODIN. After flashing Wipe Cache and Data wipe is recommended too.
To gain the root access again you need to flash recovery from ODIN.
Other members looking at this this thread please correct me if i am wrong .I still not getting which backup the guy is talking about.

oh sorry sir, i'll make it clear, my last firmware is 4.2.2 and my rom is GENNEXT, but when i encounter the problem, i tried to go back and flash the 4.1.2 stock firmware, then later i discovered that i have a backup from my previous rom(GENNEXT running 4.2.2 firmware) so i flash again the 4.2.2 stock firmware and flash the philz touch recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache then restore the back up, then my phone is restored but theres another problem sometimes the screen blinks and the phone reboots in a few minutes after the startup.

OK. Then it may be the problem with your GENNXT ROM cause the problem occured after restoring Backup.Try the fresh install of latest build of GENNXT rom.

i already tried it sir but it didnt solve the problem, it passes the setup but after a few minutes the phone reboots.
You might want to try one of the AOSP-based ROMs (CM11/Slimkat/Carbon/Omni/ProBAM) and see if it fixes the issue. If it still reboots even after installing one of those ROMs, then you probably has a faulty hardware. If it stops rebooting, then you probably has a corrupted installation of stock firmware...
Faulty hardware = get it to a service center, but be prepared to pay some bucks because you have already lost your warranty...
Corrupted stock firmware = try to flash the firmware again via Odin but DON'T RESTORE ANY BACKUP. If it still reboots, redownload the firmware package and reflash.
I'm not an expert, but I figured that your phone is already unusable by constant rebooting... let's just solve it by trial and error.

This is probably the best explained and most direct definition of what to do and what may be happening with our ever-rebooting Grands.... Thank you!!!
Had to create an account to thanks naufalhadyan
I was running on LineAgeOS 13.0 for a while until yesterday, when I went to install some random play store app and it crashed then went on a infinite rollercoaster with absolutely no fun making loops every time it got of the boot animation, did a factory reset, on the 2nd or 3rd app it crashed and looped, flashed another .zip with the rom, same, installed an RRemix on the same version (I like the 6) and when installing another random playstore it crashed the same way, now i'm on a AOSP 6.0 flashed from the recovery and so far i've been downloading the entire play store (just for kicks) and its smooth.
I don't use come to this troubleshooting section but on the last 24 hours there were some major bugs regarding endless loops, maybe a play store update came bugging our grand duos'? Is that even possible?

Even iam facing the same issue
phone reboots automatically and doesnt even start... infinite bootloop. Was working fine and suddenly this issue came up from nowhere(past 2 weeks) ..
Iam using Resurrection rom 5.7.4 (Marshmallow)
Damn I was on AICP 11, when this exact strange bootloop problem occurred for no rhyme and reason. I know the hardware is fine, the issue arises from installing apps from playstore, the moment it goes beyond a certain app limit in the device, it will start endless bootloop, I am sure this is Google's doing. Anyways this is not a hardware issue and I know more people will be coming here looking for answer to this issue. I have tried both the opengapps and deltagapps, same behaved this way, it never happened before and lately google have introduced one other app which is google's android instant app that will sit in your device, even though you need it not not. very well google for using our precious internal data to around 500Mb to 1Gb.
formating data partition solves this issue, temporarily but you lose your apps and data.
I had successfully avoided this issue when I stopped installing more apps on my device, It took me 2 tries and I found a perfect balance of 4-5 apps, it came crashing again when I tried installing the 7th app.
I don't know if other ROMs will be able to handle this bug, but I know it's time for me to look for another ROM, I was happy with AICP 11, for more than a year. Sad.
Reading about this issue, I came to know this is prevalent on all CM marshmallow based ROMs. So, going to flash Nougat or kitkat or the stock ROM should probably fix this.
Try a new battery.

[Q] Apps force close and phone crashes in every rom

Hi guys, I was using AHRD 33.1 and everything was working perfectly till once morning all my apps forced closed one by one and the phone started rebooting and got into a bootloop. Whenever I used to charge it, it used to switch itself on automatically and reboot constantly from the 'HTC quietly brilliant' screen.
I erased cache too. In the recovery I sometimes got the message that the cache can't be mounted. Then I completely erased my sd card, reverted to android 4.1, updated the hboot ( from 1.36 to 1.73) and installed AOSPA kitkat. Still the apps force close and the phone restarts. I'm confused as to if the cache is at fault or the sd card isn't working properly. Help if you get what I have put forth.

Make a full wipe, flash some rom, flash custom kernel (via recovery and via fastboot). Don't restore apps, and see how's that going.

already done that, no luck.
I installed AOSPA again, with FAUX kernel. At first I didn't flash gapps just to check what was causing the problem. The phone was working fine. As soon as I installed gapps, one more reboot and now the phone is stuck on the HTC logo screen.
Edit: Okay so I went into fastboot and erased the cache. It switched on but now the apps crash.
Now it says 'Type password to decrypt storage' . What is happening? I got this same message in twrp yesterday.

Seems like you are flashing wrong gapps, make a full wipe again, try with this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583037
and this gapps:

You need cm11 version gapps.
After flashing these everything should work fine.

Well....you really have strange issues...
Try with connecting your device to computer and than copy everything from storage to HDD, format storage and than copy everything to your phone....And yeah, why don't you try sense rom just for day-2-3, see if you have issue on sense too, if you have it's or your device or your fault.

I have issues on sense too. And now I can't reinstall my adb drivers because as soon as I switch off my phone and connect it to the computer, it either boots into recovery or reboots. Yeah it might be something which I did but I was using the same rom for more than a month without any issues. Anyway thanks!

Stuck on Bootscreen

Hello, yesterday i got my HTC One M8(HTC_E11) and updated it to the latest firmware and flashed ViperOneM8 3 times, but every time after installing it it works just fine until i reboot the phone, it gets stuck at the bootscreen. I had the same problem with InsertCoin. Stock works fine but i really want to use some of the tweaks ViperOneM8 provides...
Can someone help me?
The device is still S-ON btw.
It was alot easier when i had my HTC Sensation, flashed like 50 different roms over time and it always worked.

are you using the new TWRP 2.8.3.0 ? if not flash it.
and this time before you flash viper backup your internal SD and in TWRP use Wipe / Format Data /
now install ViperOne and don't restore any of your apps start New... now before you sign into your google account reboot the phone.
if it boots up, sign into google setup as New, don't restore. now install one or 2 apps and reboot. continue like this till all your stuff is installed or you figure out what your installing that's screwing up the phone
Cool I just hit 4800 posts !

It's strange though seeing as I had my original data from the International version. When I flashed ViperOne, I restored my data from the International backup and all was working fine. When I converted to Developer edition, I also restored data from the International version and it still worked fine... Just a weird bit of info that's all.

The difference was every time he rebooted after a clean install he had boot loops. So it only made sense it was something he was doing after the install that caused the problems

phone says its full?

Hey guys Im running stock rooted and for some reason my phone SD is saying im full. I have literally nothing on it. Any ideas?
I tried once to install a ROM but it borked so I went back to a backup I had and it was fine.
Via windows it says my SD only has around 8 gigs used but android is saying 24?!?!?!?

thanks, I was about to try and just redo the device with a ROM. Clear cahces and such.
I was actually wrong, every time I go into the phone in windows its giving me different storage use #'s. One time its 8 then 17 then 23 then 9. its weird. I think when I tried dirty flashing it just screwed it all up. I have nothing on the SD I care about really so maybe Ill just back up what I want (TWRP backup and titanium apps) and start from scratch if I Cant solve this.
That might be the best. Try backing up to an OTG then completely wiping and installing a fresh ROM. After backing up apps and such.
ugh IM having trouble using any roms on my 5x. No matter the way I install the phone always boots to "internal problem with device"
Ive tried installing different roms (I only like stock style ones) and the vendor.zip and it just doesnt work for me. Ive gone back to my backup for the moment until I figure this out. Never had these issues with my nexus 5
this is odd now my pattern no longer work since my restore back to my TWRP backup! GOD DAKNIT!
let me do the start patttern fine for android then when unlocing the phone it tells me "pattern needed to start device"
what the hell man!

Try 1st: Completely wipe device, System, data etc. Including Internal Storage and flash a new rom. If that does not fix the issue try flashing stock firmware and start from scratch. Use THIS guide to flash the stock images.
Flash vendor.img that matches your rom base. MMB29Q is the February OTA base. February AOSP roms are based on MMB29U master code but MMB29Q vendor file works fine.
For password issues after TWRP restore, do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3245070
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
SERIOUS ISSUE!
Bricked the phone!
CRAP, this whole thing went downhill. Can get into TWRP, and get the android crash logo (triangle) was trying to restore back to stock to start fresh and it bombed completely!
Any tips!!!
Been a while since I used ADB or fast etc, but man if I have to relearn I will
