I have the Sprint version of the Optimus G, updated and rooted. Since I've gotten it, I've had a weird issue. When the network mode is set to LTE/CDMA, the 3G antenna will only turn on very rarely, leaving me entirely without internet access. I was about to return in when I realized that the issue is solved when I change it to CDMA only.
We don't have LTE in my area (though I'm assured that it's coming in the next few weeks. I'm holding my breath. I promise. ), so I don't mind leaving my LTE antenna off. But if this is an issue only with my phone, I want to exchange it while I still can, rather than waiting until LTE is available only to find that my phone is faulty.
So is anyone else having this issue? Is it software, or should I get the phone exchanged?
Had the same issue. I turned the 4g off and it got better instantly

Hey everyone!
I was wondering if anyone else is having the problem where if you toggled your 4g to turn it off, you would lose all data entirely? I currently running winner's kang-cm9 and when I try to turn off 4g through the toggle or through the settings, I only get gray signal bars. I'm assuming I should still have 3g after turning off 4g. Is this someone that everyone is experience or is it my phone?
I'm having a similar issue (stock ROM). I notice it every morning when I leave for work. I leave my place and wifi disconnects (lack of signal). Since I don't have LTE outside, it seems like it try's over and over to obtain LTE signal. LTE is spotty in my area, so it will go in and out. However, 3G sometimes fails to connect and I sit there without any signal. It's incredibly frustrating...
Last night I just flashed to Apex ROM/Kernel. This morning I waited for my car to warm up a little bit and by the time i plugged in my phone, it had a 3g connection. I will be continuing to look out for this, but I have been able to replicate the issue in my first paragraph over and over again... something is definitely wrong with the radio on our phone (CDMA).
Oh that happens to me a lot too because I get bad 4g in my area so a lot of times when its switching back and forth I lose data for a while.
The problem I'm having is that I would try to disable LTE/4g to save battery but would end up losing all data (Only calls and text work). On my friends thunderbolt he was able to disable 4g and retain his 3g data. As for me, I lose all data and I have to restart to regain data again when I try to disable 4g data

That's an interesting point. I was wondering how the other LTE VZ phones handled this situation... I think VZ/Google needs to address this in a fix ASAP.
I work in a largish company in Seattle area. We have ~5000 engineers working in the area and I posted the same question since my Verizon GNexus would completely lose all mobile data for hours at a time every 3-4 days. From what the results I got, they said that in our area they are all seeing those problems and they had different devices. I got responses from OG Droid, Droid Charge, GNexus, DroidX2, Thunderbolt.
I've been seriously considering returning my phone since this is clearly a verizon data network issue which is not limited to LTE as their press releases would have you believe.

Well see, i can get data if i toggle airplane mode or cdma to cdma/LTE. it takes me forcing the phone to start looking for 3g instead of LTE.
Very serious issue. Slow reconnects on a toggle that should be unobtrusive between 4g-3g. I suffer from the same issue.
What's worse. The reception in general is terrible. And dropping from 4g to 3g ..the phone either never reestablishes 4g or take.....a. VERY long time. Like, 10-15 minutes. Unbelievable
I'm trying desperately to get google to be aware of this and I'm PRAYYYIINNGG this is a software issue.
P.s this is my third nexus... so I believe this is everyone

Yep... I have two other friends with this issue as well. I just got off the phone with Verizon, and they acknowledged the data connectivity issues... they said an update is in the works and is tentatively sometime Jan/February.... for the record, i'm on 4.0.3 (axi0m rom); not that it should matter ...
What I'm seeing is similar but sounds like it might be slightly different. I have a thread on it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21352288
I'm not sure if what I'm describing there is "normal" and the thing they are working on an update to address or if I have a bad radio/phone. Any thoughts?
In my case, it will go: 4G->no_data->4G in the span of about 30 seconds or so. The 4G indicator will still show for a few seconds but I'll get "no connection" kind of messages. Then I get just a solid gray triangle. About 30 seconds later, I see the bars, then the 4G indicator, then the bars turn blue.
Anyone else seeing this? This happened to the phone before this which I swapped due to this problem. What are the chances I got 2 bad ones in a row? Or is it just a similar issue to what you all are describing?
I bought a new GNex last week and immediately ran into bad connectivity issues when preferred network mode is set to LTE/CDMA. Basically no signal all (3G or 4G), even though I live in downtown Boston where there should be 4G. When I switch my preferred network mode from LTE/CDMA to CDMA, the 3G network works fine with no connectivity issues.
On the phone, Verizon told me that a software patch in May will fix the issue. A staffer at the Verizon store told me that I could already find the patch online and that it would solve the problem... I assumed he was talking about 4.0.4. I flashed 4.0.4 yesterday fully expecting it to solve my LTE connectivity problems but ..... no luck. I still get no signal using the LTE/CDMA setting. I can't even make or receive calls unless I switch back to CDMA.
Do I have a hardware issue? Are other people having the same problem? Should I trust Verizon and hope that the 4.0.5 OTA update fixes the problem? Is there anything I can do about it now?
I am in the same boat as you. Just got a replacement from Verizon but it had a horrible purple tint to the screen so its going back. Didn't even get to see if its better at 4g. I think its a hardware problem as I've read that some people were able to get a replacement phone that actually works.

My problem is similar. I can get 4G and use it sometimes but after a short time of data usage all my data is cut off until I reboot the phone. No calls, no nothing. I logged a ticket last night and will be calling back today for an exchange.
edit:
I stopped into the VZW store after calling customer care and getting everything all setup. They swapped out my gnex for a new one and so far my experience has been positive. I'm seeing improved signal everywhere and last night the phone didn't drop connectivity once or even get warm. The old phone would get hot to the touch in the upper left of the screen, the new one stayed cool throughout 30 app downloads with 2 bars 4g. Here's to hoping my problem is solved.
I'm getting a similar issue with connectivity dropping ice had this phone for three weeks and the signal drops terribly. At my house because I live on a mountain by a Penn state campus I know there isn't much in the way of signal because of the distance from the towers without interference. But even with being in other areas with 4g I still run into the signal dropping...I thought it was just me so it's good too know I'm not the only one having issues

When I first installed CM10 on my S3 I was having wonky 4G connections. I eventually figured out how to get LTE to stick by switching bearer off LTE, saving, going back in and changing it back to LTE. It worked for me and by the time the dailies arrived I rarely had to touch it.
Today I flashed 10/02 and noticed massive battery drain. I was also getting 4g showing with grey bars, not blue. So I rebooted and began to recharge.
Now I can't get 4g at all. I've messed around with the APN settings over and over without any luck. I just switch back and forth from 3G/H+
I checked my IEMI, Its there as usual.
I tried forcing just LTE through the dialer and just get grey bars (full) without any data connection.
Any ideas? Could my phone be just a dud and the best solution is to revert to stock and return?
Thanks!

Make sure data is enabled in the settings
data is enabled. I can get 3g/h+.
I also tried loading my last two nandroids. No luch there either.
I have the same problem as you, LTE just suddenly stopped working today, tried everything to get it back but no luck. On Paranandroid..would reflashing the modem/radio help at all?
possibly weak LTE area? seems to always be my problem... i'm on slim rom and can get lte if in the neighbourhood .. lol
Rogers is having problems with LTE today across the country.

Sometimes things like this make me doubt my reason for sticking with Rogers is reliability. Not just LTE today, there's also suppose to be a problem with RogersOne users in Ontario not being able to make or get calls seems to be fixed now. Had LTE for about 30 secs a minute ago and 4g is still really splotchy and keeps disconnecting.

They are adding lte coverage to a lot of cities since 01/10. That is why.
Keep calm and wait, don't blame your devices

Anyone have this problem I was in an lte area for about an hour and never picked up lte

I live in an lte area and I have issues picking up lte or holding it. Usually if I know their is lte were I am I may have rot toggle airplane mode and it will pick up lte. I'm just hoping for a leaked radio update or something because this is getting old
I have the same issue with mine, I thought it was defective but it seems to be the norm. I came from an Evo LTE, so sadly its nothing new to me
I noticed the radio on this phone isn't very good, the handoff leaves a lot to be desired
So today I have had issues with connecting to Sprint's network. In a city near mine, they are upgrading to 4G. My phone has been going from full signal to zero signal within seconds. It is killing my battery life. I am running CM10.1 with the current nightly. I restored a previous version of CM to see if it was an issue with the ROM and I was getting the same results. Do I need to flash the radios or leave it be? Could it be because of Network Vision? Is there a way to back up my current radios in case something goes haywire?

Its most likely a carrier issue....make sure you have the most current radios installed which are FD02 if i remember correctly....other than that its a very rare occurance that software would affect your signal...probably due to the work that they are doing in the area....turn off LTE and see if the 3G signal does the same thing...good luck let us know what happens
Its sprints terrible network.

I've turned off 4g, reconnected with airplane mode, restarted my phone, fixed permissions. 3G is the same. I hardly have any service. The thing is, the past couple weeks the service here has been awesome. Then yesterday, this.

Like i said its most likely the work that they are doing .... Give it a couple days because the same thing happened to me when Verizon was putting up their towers near me when i had my thunderbolt....give sprint a call see whats going on
...check their website see what it says for your area....for what its worth I'm 99% sure its their doing

Well, I have confirmed it to be on Sprint's end. All it took was a quick drive around town to pick up a different tower. My buddy has a signal booster in his apartment and I was picking up full bars there. Here's hoping LTE is close!
