[Q] After Update Chinese handwritting stoped working - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated to the newest firmware for the note 2 the n7100xxxxJ1 update so that I can have split screen and that part worked but after reinstalling input languages I found that typing in Chinese still works but it does not have the handwriting feature any more.
All the other input languages that I activate the handwriting feature still works just not Chinese. I use that feature everyday as I live in China. Also I do not want a 3 party app to use the handwriting feature for Chinese due to the fact that everyone of my friends who has used my phone cannot believe how accurate the handwriting feature is for Chinese. Please help I have searched and downloaded and reinstalled and re flashed firmware and i can not figure out how to get it back. Thanks. Phone is rooted has adb, busybox, cmw. I does not work unrooted or rooted not that you think it would make a difference just thought I would say.
thanks for you help

if you do find out the solution, please let know too....

Hi, I also hope some one could publish the HTC Desire's Asia Rom. I want the HTC chinese input method not the locale stuff.
None of Google,Sogou,QQ,Baidu input method is good enough for both English and Chinese. But switch between these input methods and HTC's input method is slow and will disable multi-touch function until reboot.
Anyone could help me?
I bought the phone in china, it had all the asian stuff, actually i didnt want any of that so i rebooted.
check out xda-china.net, maybe over there..
i asked this question a while back, there are 3rd party apps on the market to get the support OR you can root your device and install the language (same as the steps as doing it on rooted hero)
Hi, None 3rd party Chinese input is good or stable enough to use, even the google one.
Thanks to yojosefo. I found the link from that site which contains almost all the official ROMs
shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
And I am using HTC input method contains Chinese now

Hi which rom did u used for chinese input?
search for "r1-wvga-cime-signed.zip"
if you have your desire rooted u can just install that without the need to flash other roms..
i believe that asia wwe does not contain zhuyin for those who want that input.. as for pinyin it's included in there
Does the recent leak 2.06 HK CSL rom comes with chinese ime?
anyone can confirmed?

[How to] Add Chinese Input Method

I have been trying out some of the custom roms for the sgs2 and find that most of them lack the chinese input method. Searching throughout the Samsung Galaxy forums, I am unable to find much info on it so I created this thread to help the few who would find this useful. This is inclusive of all the default samsung chinese input methods (pinyin, cangjie, bpmf, stroke, and handwritting).
For chinese input on the sgs2 you will need to extract the chinese input apk and its libraries from a chinese rom into the current rom you are using.
Chinese rom list: ZS-KF1, ZS-KF4, ZS-KG2 (available on samfirmware)
Just grab these files from any of those chinese roms:
/system/app/samsungIME.apk
/system/app/samsungIME.odex
/system/lib/libhandwritelib.so
/system/lib/libjni_pinyinime.so
/system/lib/libjni_secime.so
/system/lib/libXT9.so
If you want to import this to a deodexed rom then you can deodex the samsungIME.apk+odex files with help from this thread created by sicopat

Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes, for third party Chinese input support there are Touchpal, Sogou, Iflytek, Baidu input, and more, but not all of those have traditional chinese support. Regardless, this method is for those that want to use the built in Samsung input method.

Theoretically, would this method work for any "missing" language?
not sure about all languages but you can try the other libraries that pertain to the samsung keyboard.
/system/lib/libjni_latinime.so
/system/lib/libjnigraphics.so
/system/lib/libXt9core.so
and the language files under

multiling keyboard appears to offer the ㄅㄆㄇㄈ input, the other app i mentioned is actual handwriting input (i.e. writing each word out to get the actual characters)
for simplified Chinese which support handwriting, there are DioPen from Hanvon in DXKH2 AND DXKI4, If I used other ROM then I used Guobi Input. you can find many input from here: http://www.3gfan.com/class/346_1.htm

Galaxy W - changing ui language

Hi, I have a newbie question about android
Recently I've bought a new galaxy w. I've turned it on and figured out that it has a support of English and Malaysian language.
I'm a russian native speaker, so I would like to change a ui to russian language.
I mean not just being able to type sms in russian, but the whole ui (like application names, menues, and so on).
So, I would like to know how conceptually it can be done?
Is it just a matter of changing some locale related files or I need to install something?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi, Thanks a lot for the answer and sorry for the late reply
I've installed this application, but it seems like it provides only partial solution.
I saw that some applications really were named in russian (like google maps and google play)
But it did nothing with menus and icons on the bottom of the screen (phone, contacts, and so on).
When I chose Settings -> Language I don't see russian language and I guess this is the problem. I understand that more locale application only changes the locale and its good enough for applications having internationalization support by themselves but it doesn't affect the whole UI language of the system.
The issue looks deeper than only installing the right locale.
Meanwhile I've read about different ROMs available. I'm still vague on details but can ROM installation resolve the problem? If so, what ROM should I install?
Some more details that can shed some light:
- I'm located in Israel and the phone is bought there
- Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-perf-I8150DXMLM3-CL1103265
[email protected] #3
-Baseband version
I8150DXLC1
- Android version 2.3.6
-PDA I8150 DXLM3 (to obtain this I used *#*#1234#*#*)
Disclaimer, I'm quite a technical guy (programmer with ~15 years experience) so stuff like rooting the phone and installing custom modes of os version doesn't scare me, I just only never dealt with android phones
Thanks a lot in advance
Hi,
After reading and learning a little bit, I've tried to root the device, but with no luck
I tried all 3 methods I've found
here
but no one didn't really work
I'm quite sure I did everything like it was explained.
In the first method it wrote me the the update.zip was installed successfully, but after the reboot the phone wasn't rooted.
I've paid attention that in logs (accessible through recovery console there are a lot of messages of type:
failed to open /sys/class/android_usb/android0/state - looks like its an invalid path.
So any help will be appreciated here
Thanks
OK. It looks like after a couple of hours I've got a root access to the phone.
Thought someone can be interested...
I've used the first method and it didn't work.
I've made factory reset (also available in recovery console) and then came across mounting option in menu.
So I've mounted everything I could there and then re-applied the update.zip. Rebooted the phone and now it seems to have a root access (I have a superuser application).
Now the next challenge will be installing the ROM with russian language native support (in android jargon "flashing" ) with Odin.
I've downloaded a firmware from sammobile.com. And planning to use this tutorial
And I believe I'll be happy with my russian language
Since my experience with this stuff now is impressive _one_ day, so
could someone point me whether i'm in the right direction at all?
Thanks
Install the latest firmware XXLM8, i think it support russian language via the tutorial how to install via odin, then u will need to use the first method to root the firmware again...thats all

[Q] How to add or enable additional system languages?

Long story short - when I played with the tablet at store before buying I specifically checked the available system languages (in the Settings) and was able to easily change to any language. But upon buying tablet (Pro 10.1) and starting it up I can only see few languages available and no option to add more. Does anyone know how I can add additional languages? Answer would be highly appreciated as I intend to gift tablet to non English speaker and having native system language is a must.
Also looking for the answer. Apps which set locale and language dont work (without root anyway)
All right,
I found the answer and enabled all system languages. The good news is that the whole procedure took about 15 minutes with no glitches. The bad news is that the only way to do this is by rooting the tablet first. All the system languages are available in firmware but Samsung in their typical 'wisdom' decided to disable all but few that are prevalent in US. Other languages can be enabled via simple configuration file change but this requires ROOT access privileges. So you need to rot tablet first. I used the instructions at this forum in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661198.
For drivers I installed Kies and upgraded it to the latest version (I am using Windows 8.1 laptop and USB 3.0 port), I also loaded ODIN from the link for the 10.1 tablet. The whole process was very straightforward as long as you stay on the instruction path to the tee. One gotcha for me was that security pattern was not recognized after root, good thing I remembered PIN code. So I would advise to disable tablet lock screen security prior to rooting.
Once tablet was rooted and I disabled Knox with SuperSU, I downloaded market app called 'Language Enabler'. Language enabler simply lists all languages that Samsung supports and once you make selection of which you want to enable, it switches them on in configuration file. You need to restart tablet afterwards for changes to take effect. SuperSU granted this app root privileges and I was off to add more languages. Interestingly, when I first tried to only enable languages that I was interested in (Russian and Ukrainian), I did not find them upon rebooting tablet. Maybe it was due to the fact that Language Enabler listed multiple variations of them and not all were in the firmware. So if you try at first and can't find your language after reboot, just enable all languages and then see in the settings if your language shows up.
To finish up, I went to Samsung keyboard configuration and downloaded keyboard layouts for my languages.
That's all.
Here's screenshot of the Tab Language settings after modification:
https://plus.google.com/115321967067157026307/posts/MFZdcY81cqN
Nice job. I'm having the same problem but at this time I don't want to Root to the tablet just yet. It is frustrating that while these languages are already pre-installed and taking up the space anyway, we cannot see them in the menu. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Flash official firmware on galaxy tab t320 (for chg language)
I have the galaxy tab pro t320 (8.4"), and I would like to install, for the change the language in Italian, the official firmware Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 SM-T320 EUR T320XXU1ANAI (Android 4.4.2 30.01.2014 NA26R1) found in the site techcrot.info/download-official-firmware-galaxy-tab-pro-8-4-sm-t320.
These are my questions:
1) This site has really official rom (i don't fount it in the samsumg site)
2) Is true that I can set the Italian language, with this rom (in the rom stock in the device are only English, French, Spanish)
3) The procedure void your warranty??
Thanks

Thanks I tried that and then i go back to AOSP setting and choose Language -> I did not see chinese or mandarin or any chinese related.
It shows list from start to end English - US ->> Uzbek, Vietnamese, Zulu end of list.
It does'nt have chinese though, maybe I need to install from playstore.
System -> Languages & Input -> Languages -> + Add a language (chinese will be at the bottom of the list)
I have a problems where I am able to choose Chinese as a language but am not able to activate Chinese as an input method. Same with Korean.
Should probably add... I use lineage with opengapps (pico) and the aosp keyboard.
The keyboard settings say use system languages but show only English and German although Chinese is configured as a system language.
I have the exact same problem with lineageos adroid keyboard.
Chinese language is available as system language for display purposes, but no input is available.
Ditto. Android 10 / LOS 17.1, zero Google apps, Chinese (简体中文) is enabled as a system language, and there seems to be no provision for actually entering Chinese. And the Google Pinyin Input app (which is what I have used in the past on CyanogenMod and LineageOS) seems to not work at all on this device (Sony Xperia Z3). The latest version of Google Pinyin installs and then dies silently, older versions will not even install. Ummmmm, that makes LOS unusable for something like 1/5 of the world's population. ;-) Maybe more, if this holds true for other Asian languages.

Now July 2022, I have same situation with 18.1 recently updated (July 2022) on Samsung HLTE. I do not have any Google product installed, including Play Store.
I have (and have activated ) the Chinese simple option in the languages, but am unable to change it in the key pad.
It seems as though most Asian languages except Vietnamese are missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: July 10th
Really would like some feedback on this please?
Is it something I am or not doing?
Is this an issue with this ROM/
Is it simply not possible?
I see it is showing com.android.imput.latin in the keypad setting.
I cannot find any way to switch to Cn.
Is there an update via Lineageo/s I can add to achive this please?
Don't hesitate to ask me if there is info missing.
Without the ability to use Cn language in keyboard this has very limited functionality for me.
I see it is a feature of a stock Samsung C8 device.

Quite correct, but like me, the poster wants to add it to the keypad.
Ie, convert the keypad to be able to use Chinese language.
I know this is a 2 year old psot, but just curious if yu have achieved this?
FYI: I am unable to find any option to add a language in keypad setting and no Asian languages are preset. (excluding Vietnamese)

Hello, did you ever find a way to fix this?
Just install GKeyboard from Google play and set it as default input
Hello @ar_156, thanks for taking the time to write.
I am Guessing in GKeyboard the G stands for Google.
So it might likely work, as it does in my Galaxy C8 stock Chinese for which there is no known mod.
But I do not run any Google products including Pay Store.
That sort of defeats the entire purpose of running a Mod Lineage ROM, I may as well just run the stock Google Android.
Hopefully an update soon will restore the Lineage usefulness for me.
Cheers

Thanks again for your idea.
I located the APK , downloaded but it reports back : "APP not installed."
I tried it multiple times from multiple sources - no joy.
Do you or does anyone have any idea why it keeps failing please?
In a similar vein, I thought that an earlier version of Lineage OS ( I'm running 18.1 now) came with a note taking APP?
Is there one for the current version please?
Thx
Gboard - the Google Keyboard
or use TouchPal Keyboard, it wil let you install Chinese Traditional or Simplified input.
GBoard requieres some Google elements, maybe your chinese device does not allow it, your best bet is TouchPal Keyboard, I am using it, too.

Hiya @ar_156 thanks very much for that .
Issue is very likely device related, but haha, you maybe read too much CNN!
Nothing to do with location, I suspect G/board will fail anywhere.
Since posting I had a flashback to another APP that gave the same error message. Turned out it was a 64 bit APP - Note 3 is only 32~
Once I found a 32 bit APP it installed no issues. Sadly, G/board seems not to have a 32 bit option.
I have a newer 64 bit Galaxy C8 but can't find a custom ROM for that so for now I am stuck with the Note 3 and 32 bits~
I'll giveTouchpal a try many thanks.
Saturday Sept 24th.
Hello again @ar_156 , a quick follow up. f
I found the ads on Touchpal a bit distracting.
However, your tip re Gboard IS the answer for anyone who is having the same issue .
BUT - it must be the ARM (32 bit ) version, available ex Softpedia.
Probably others as well.
However, one MUST search for the arm version, there are at least 3.
The default download is 64 bit and will fail every time.
I now have Gboard up, seems to run OK. So thank you , hope this follow up helps someone, somewhere, sometime.
Cheers
