Just reverted back to 4.12 and works fine. My company forces Administrator access which in turn enforces having a pin. I get prompted for neither of these with 4.2 and therefore exchange email will not work. Anyone else facing this issue? It appears something is broken. I am on stock 4.2 rooted and odexed. Appreciate any suggestions
At my work we also use exchange and have enforced pin and a lot of other things, i don't have any problems at all. When i set up my exchange account on my phone i got promted that the exchange server demanded all kinds of remote access, pin being one of them and since i didn't have one it took me to the settings menu and asked me to set a pin code, just like it did on 4.1.2

I can connect just fine. However, everyday it starts over. Meaning that, if I have it set to sync for a week. It will regenerate the emails from the beginning of the week until it catches up. I reset it to sync one day only and it is still starting over.

Keith, what you describe above happens to myself and another colleague with the same phone but completely inconsistently. It will reset itself and start downloading email all over again.
I have the same issue on unrooted ics. But my company doesn't allow rooted phones so I have a nandroid backup I use when I need it for work. I thought it was just me going back and forth between unrooted and rooted jb rom. Sounds like an issue between android and exchange.

There's no issue with android and exchange. The issue is that your exchange admins have enforced policies that android doesn't like and/or your exchange admins have no idea what they're doing.
I'm the administrator here and just set up a fresh MS Exchange 2010 server and my Nexus with 4.2 is working flawless.
I think it's more what we're doing. Admins don't exactly like us messing around like we are. But service providers aren't supporting us like developers are so what's a guy supposed to do

Which admins? The close-minded ones? If they set up their security correct they have no need to worry.

If you search the Themes and Apps section for this device you will have noticed that someone has a modified Exchange apk to remove the security check. Push this to your phone and you should be good to go.
Glad to see there are some good ones out there who are reasonable. Actually, I'm being a little hard because there are quite a few good ones out there. So how do I get around having to be unrooted with Mobil fusion. Would love to be able to run 4.1.2 on my skyrocket.

Not getting new email
I have an issue where my login appears ok (I set up accounts on my newly flashed 4.2.1 on GNex and Nexus 7, and on my Nexus 10, stock/rooted), but when I refresh, I can't get any new email beyond 2 days ago on any of them. I've tried a couple of different ROMS and the same thing has happened. Contacted tech team and they've had one other reported issue, but they aren't sure either.

Perhaps server issues since it's on all devices and on other rooms you have tried. Call your IT folks to investigate.

I have no issues with Exchange account and 4.2.1. Running stock 4.2.1 rooted. No issues of the like you have (I also have PIN enforced, and it works flowlessly).
If it's related to your company security policy FYI you can bypass them by sideloading a modded version of the Mail app. It's probably already available somewhere here on XDA.
Just check on which email the sync stops. Delete that email and give it another try...
I have had that as well. I deleted the complete profile on the server and rebuilt it.
I have use 4.1 and now I am on 4.2 (Rootbox 3.3.1/Dorimanx 1.34) without any issues....
Although I would like to see my subdirs on the main screen (what seems to be impossible with the current email.apk versions....).
Bye and enjoy your holidays,

Hi all,
I am trying out a Desire this weekend, in general like it. I have got the Exchange sync to work for mail, cal & contacts however if I try to access the Company Directory (GAL) or Search the Inbox I get nothing returned.
I downloaded TouchDown to test and this works fine. But I dont want to use a 3rd Party tool for email (or I could have got a Nexus).
Has anybody else seen this error before, or have any idea's? Other wise its mail if back Monday.
Thank for your help.
Peter
Nobody can help
So HTC say, remove the sync and re-create. Does nothing.
Company IT say there are no more settings to change.
Am I the only person that has seen this, I found one other when searching web, but nobody replied.....
As an alternative would look at a GAL address book viewer?
Any help would be great, newbie with the phone and forum.
Whats your Exchange Version? For me with Echange 2010 it works fine.

The OWA server and Exchange Server is 2007. Did you have issues in the past?
I have the same issue only with Exchange 2003 (we'll be moving to 2007 soon). Was chuffed to finally get my email working today (firewall and all that) and have realised I can't browse the GAL. Might try Touchdown (although I had installed it before - will it let me use it as a Trial again???)...

I and a colleague of mine have the same problem with Exchange 2003 SP2. GAL search works fine on other phones (i.e. the iPhone).
I've seen people report that it works for them though, so I have no clue what's wrong, but I have an open ticket with HTC on the issue.
Well l'm using touchdown at the moment and it appears to work really well. Everything I could want from a client. Need to see if it is worth $20 though before taking the plunge. HTC Mail is a bit limited in comparison. although the OP doesn't want to buy a third party app I would say that is one of the points of Android that if the stock app doesn't work you can get hold of an app that does...

I tried Touchdown, the issuethat I have is that the calander is then not combined which I really do like as a feature, and as far as I can see I cant just use it for email and get it to link to the standard apps I have to use it for contacts and Cal as well.
Same for me. I am syncing mails, calendar and contacts without any problems. Only company directory does not work.
I think it is not a connection problem. It is always telling me that nobody could be found. That is even happening when network connections are disabled. So it seems if this tool does not even try to connect.
Thats interesting, I did not try turning off the comm's, so at least it points to a software issue then. More hope HTC might fix it.
I think there may be an issue with contacts lookup via GAL/ Exchange 2003 on HTC STOCK Mail app. nothing shows up.

I had the same problem running Exchange 2003
GAL becomes inaccessible if security profiles are enabled ("Enforce password on device", etc..) and "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings" is disabled.
A bad workaround is to enable "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings", but that may prevent you from remotely wiping some devices and prevent some devices from initializing security profiles.
A better workaround is to add your account to the exceptions list. Doing that will enable access to GAL but disable the exchange lock screen.
I believe this is happening because either Android 2.1 or HTC mail application either doesn't support Exchange security profiles completely, or doesn't report them correctly.
Hi all, we have a product that might be of interest to you called GALSync Server. Unfortunately I can't post a URL but I'm sure you can find it with a bit of Googling.
It works by sync'ing a copy of the GAL into selected users' Exchange mailboxes which ActiveSync or BES then syncs in turn to the user's device. Works with iPhone or Windows Mobile.
We love it.
But we would wouldn't we.
Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the heads up, however its not what I am looking for:
1. You dont support Android from what I can tell.
2. I have to get the company to set it up.
I was hoping to either fix the HTC sync or an app on the handset that can get access.
Thanks
Agree with baronb. HTC needs to fix this issue. Corp IT Administrators will not make exceptions to their security settings. Also, I know from using Touchdown by Nitrodesk that it does, and CAN work.

I talked with HTC hot desk who were not very helpful and seemed to have lost my previous information. They said I should wait for an update!
At this point I am starting to look at alternatives as the lack of GAL for me while on the road was an issue last week.
Is there any more info on this one? I am having this bug too and it is the only thing stopping me from recommending the Desire as a suitable phone for my company to use for all staff right now!
Nothing, yet will bug Hotdesk again this week. The more people to log the error maybe the faster they will fix it.....+44 8458900079

Thanks for that. Will get myself on the phone later!
I've been the proud and happy owner of the GSM Galaxy Nexus for a couple of weeks now. Been playing with it like crazy..... rooted, unlocked, fastbooted, CWM, many different roms... Finally settled (at least for now) on Kangs' AOKP rom and Francisco's kernel. Terrific set up. My question though is this.... I have an exchange account and I keep the push frequency to "never" (only download new emails when I open the email app). It's always worked perfectly. Yet yesterday I downloaded and installed the latest build of Kangs rom, build 13, and my mail is now being pushed to my phone instantly, all the time. I even turned off auto-sync and it's STILL happening. I can't figure this out for the life of me and I thought I would pose the question here. I really don't want to have to do a full wipe and reinstall everything all over again, but of course I will if that seems to be the answer.
Have you checked again in the app settings? Seems obvious I know but you never know

Yes, it does seem obvious, but I agree with you that hey... you never know! Yeah, I checked the settings both from within the app as well as through the settings menu. Check frequency is set to "never" and auto-sync is turned off.... Yet as I sit here in front of my computer I can send myself an email and it's instantly setting off the new mail notification on the phone.
After searching, trying and asking, I simply removed the exchange account from the phone, deleted the cache, rebooted, and reinstalled the account as new. Problem solved.... at least for now!
I am having a very strange problem with exchange email with the native email client. I am trying to sync to a corporate Exchange 2003 server. All of the settings are accepted but it is not syncing the most recent emails. Oddly enough, if I select the option to sync one days worth of email, it syncs (approximately) email that is over one day old. If I select the option to sync a month's worth of email, it syncs email that is (again approximately) a month old. In addition, after the initial sync it doesn't sync any emails any longer, even if I hit refresh manually.
This problem only seemed to surface with the last update that was pushed from Acer (the small one after the big update that took me to 3.2.1). That happened on the first day that I got the A100 though so I didn't have it working for long before that. And in case you're wondering, I have not had this problem on any other device that I have tried. This includes two Nokia Symbian phones, a Nexus S running ICS and an Asus Transformer running 3.2.1. I have gone back and forth with Acer's email support and they have been no help at all.
Can anyone confirm for me that they have been running exchange email with the native app on a fully updated A100 without any problems? And an ideas on how to fix this problem for me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
doesn't anyone use exchange email on their a100? I'd like to at least confirm that some people have it working properly.

Yup same thing as me... I got mine in Toronto as well from Kijiji though haha. Lots of torontonians on this forum!
Haha ya not sure why that is!
So looks like this might just be a problem with Exchange 2003 in particular I suppose. I just installed an app called "Exchange Email" which seems to be based on the stock email client and it's working fine. It's missing some features though like a working calendar so I would still like to figure out what's going on with the stock email client.

Check to see if the exchange server has all of the service packs installed... But really? Exchange 2003 is almost 10 years old... might be time for an upgrade
Yep I know it's old, but it's the corporate server and I don't have any control over it!
I am on Exchange server 2003, on an Acer tablet running android 3.2.1, and about a week ago, I started getting the same issue. If you find a solution, let me know and I'll do the same!
So it's not just me! Do you recall if it just started happening after the last patch?
I've only dealt with the Acer email support so I will try calling them as well. You should let them know too so they hopefully begin to understand that it's a problem and actually do something about it.

Have you tried reverting back to 2.007.01 and staying there since it was working before you updated it to .04?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I believe that I would have to root in order to revert back? I had asked Acer if there was a way to do it and they said no. I haven't attempted a root yet.
just use recovery to flash the update.zip file for build 2.007.01 and dont take the ota update to .04 aftewords.
I tried that before and it didn't work. I could've been doing something wrong but I downloaded the update.zip file from the official stock rom thread and put it on an external sd card. When I powered up holding the volume up key I get the android guy on the screen but then just get the yellow exclamation mark and the process stops. This happened both the update and the full package. I thought that this didn't work either because I was trying to go back to an older package or because I wasn't rooted.
No that just means your recovery partition is messed up, not sure how or why but for more info you can pull /cache/recovery/last_log and post it here. From that file I can tell why it failed.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'm a noob so I'm not entirely sure where to check that. I checked in my cache folder with Root Explorer and there's nothing in there. Am I looking in the right place?
Sorry I meant ES File Explorer, not Root Explorer
ES and astro wont be able to see in that folder, you'll need to use either root explorer, script manager or adb to get to the recovery directory inside that cache folder.

well my girl friend had the same problem on her Galaxy nexus,
and every time i had to remove the Hotmail account and then add it again for the contacts to appear.
but it kept happening to her phone and it never happened to mine.
but after 2 months of this SH*T i decided to add her account to my phone so i'll have her contacts if they disappear and there is something urgent.
so i did add her Hotmail, and after 12hours this SH*T started happening to me too, even when i totally removed her account and mine.
it happens twice everyday.
the only thing i wanna do now is not just restore the phone to default settings, but totally flash a new firmware and clear all cache and try again but i have a lot on my phone to backup.
Wow that's pretty crap - temporarily, I cleared the cache/data under settings/apps which forces the contacts to reappear then did a local export and now I'm importing them at least once or twice a day...its the lamest work around ever if your workaround does work can you let me know pls?

Me Three
I'm (not) glad to see others are having this problem too.
I may be in the wrong thread running a Galaxy S2, but this recently started happening to me. I thought it was a combination of new ROM/Kernel (recently switched to Siyah 3.3.d) but have had this same problem with CyanogenMod 9 on both the Kernel they ship as well as Siyah. With Siyah running with Dual Boot and just a single ROM.
Clearing App data for Calendar, Calendar Storage, Contacts, Contacts Storage sometimes helps, but this is getting really annoying.
Does anyone know what the root cause is? I've considered going back to Stock Carrier ROM just to see if this keeps up. I've gone back to backups from weeks ago (when I don't think this was happening) and it now happens. Don't know what else to try.
Hey,
i totally restored to 4.1.1 locked back the phone just in case, and it still happened.
then i unlocked, restored to 4.0.4, no rooting, and it still happen.
i think my hotmail account got "infected" when i added my girlfriend's account.
anyone please help.

I've been having this issue too - from searching for answers it appears to be a bug with hotmail.
Some people have reported having success with changing the server to debug-m.hotmail.com, or xxx-m.hotmail.com (where xxx is the three letter server code assigned to your hotmail account). Neither of these solutions has worked for me.
I'd love to know what else people have tried.

Thank you guys SOOO much for putting this up. I thought it was just me!!!! I was about to post a thread of my own on this!
Yes, I've been having this issue all of last week. I thought it was my phone and or ROM configs. I can confirm that it's happening on all ICS ROMs. I tried 10 different ROMs, all 100% clean installs. As a matter of fact, I just finished loading Paranoid Android ROM, which is a JB ROM, in hopes that it resolves it.
My Hotmail account is set up as an Exchange account. Randomly, out of nowhere, all contacts, calendars, and emails are cleared, and it has to redownload itself. This is potentially disastrous as I depend very heavily on my Hotmail calendar.
Does anyone have any idea what's happening and what we can do to solve it?
---------- Post added at 05:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:33 PM ----------
After much research, it seems that this is a huge problem with Hotmail that started occurring mid May. I still haven't seen a concrete response from Microsoft regarding this issue.
Last night I deleted the email account under the stock email app and downloaded the free hotmail app from the app store...so far the contacts are intact ...if they disappear again I will update my post.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
OK they disappeared again, apparently the Google settings have nothing to do with this, its definitely Hotmail.
So i temporarily imported my contacts and switched to gmail it was easy because i already use Google calendar i only use Hotmail for email and contacts.
I already tried switching the m.hotmail.com server but i read that some hotmail users where switched to new servers, so maybe this is the problem.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have seen this happening on my wive's, brother's and my Galaxy Nexus.
All of us have updated to JB.
I have solved this issue with exporting my Live-contacts and importing them to my Google Account.
I will use my Galaxy S3 from now on and my wife wife asked for a new phone, she's more impatient but will get the S3 now anyway.
I think Google does not like Microsoft anymore due to latest lawsuit results.
Anywho I blame Jellbean. :crying:

I can confirm that this is a problem on all ICS/JB ROMs and is therefor not related to a ROM.
now suddenly even my calender items disappeared as well - this is getting really annoying now - will export/import them to google again until MS has sorted this out. anyone reported this already in a MS forum or blog? if not maybe we should do that.
I'm having the same issue here. I was having the issue with the stock ICS ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I rooted and flashed the BB Jelly Bean ROM but the problem is still happening. When I delete the account and add it back it syncs. But then the next day the contacts disappear. When I create the account I put in m.hotmail.com. But the next day when I look it says col-m.hotmail.com. I don't think this is the issue, but I also saw comments to try changing to this. It seems to be happening automatically.
Anyway, I noticed that when I go into Hotmail and edit a contact and save it, it syncs. I don't know how long that contact will stay on my phone. So it seems to me that it could be related to identifiying which contacts to synch. I tried changing the synch frequency but that didn't work either.
Does anyone know which Microsoft Hotmail forum we should post this?
- I installed the Hotmail Microsoft + 7 app. I now have my contacts again. I'm not sure if this will work long term. I tried using the app and it crashed, so I plan on continue to use the built in Android mail app. But hopefully the Microsoft app will allow me to synch my contacts. If this doesn't work, I think I'll import them into Google to have as a backup copy.

Same problem on stock 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus
I've got the same problem too on the official stock 4.1.1 Jellybean update. My contacts and calendar go completely missing and removing/adding the account only makes it work for a day or so and then it disappears again. Email still syncs fine.
As someone reported in this thread Hotmail is still working fine with their iPhone, and it is working fine with my Windows Phone... I'm pretty sure this is Google's fault. It makes my phone near useless, that's for sure.
This better get fixed soon! If someone finds or hears about a fix, post it here and let everyone know!
Just an observation with regards to Exchange support on these releases.
My S3 came with ICS like most others on this site and I had a persistent issue with Exchange telling it it "wasn't connected" as it simultaneously proceeded to get my mail.....
I was PO'd at it, but found a 4.1.1 ROM (BlackJelly), which I flashed and, low and behold, mail worked perfectly! Great I thought!
Yesterday I decided to give CM 10.1 a shot. Wiped the device, installed the ROM and immediately had a very similar issue with Exchange. To confirm that it wasn't just the mail app, I downloaded CM 10.0 stable, flashed it, and mail worked perfectly.
The symptoms of the mail issue are:
1. Deleted messages on the phone do not disappear from the inbox.
2. You may see a "can't connect to server" or something to this effect periodically in the mail client
3. Mail "push" behaviour is irrattic and may not work at all.
Since I'm using Exchange 2003, these observations are exclusive to that platform. I'm not sure whether 2007 is effected by the same problem.
It would appear as though whatever was broken in ICS, then fixed for JB 4.1.x is now broken again in 4.2.1.
Hmmm...not saying this is your problem and I'm running from an Exchange 2007 server, but I had very similar issues on ICS and JB 4.1.1 (could not always connect, flags didn't transfer). After I visited our IT department, they said I was using an old server address that didn't have proper authentication. They put it the new one and it's worked perfectly since.
What alerted me was that it worked perfectly on data, but had issues on WiFi. Any differences on your end? No need to test if you're fine being on BlackJelly; I'm just curious, haha.
Also, CM is AOSP-based, while BlackJelly is TW-based, IIRC. I've read somewhere that Exchange certification/compatibility is expensive and Samsung licenses it for their phones, but on the other hand, AOSP doesn't license Exchange compatibility. That doesn't explain why ICS wouldn't work (presumably you were on stock TW?), though...

Well, I'm the Exchange admin, so I'm pretty sure I'm using the right address
I should probably clarify a little.
It works fine on IOS devices.
It worked fine on the stock ICS ROM that came on my phone and all of the updates until the last one before JB. IE, the last ICS update that Samsung rolled out broke Exchange in the manner depicted.
At this point, I rooted the phone, installed JB and bam, all was working perfectly again. It continued to work fine on every release of BlackJelly. And this is for both WiFi and 3G/4G, behaviour is normal.
Getting an interest in 4.2.1, I grabbed the M release of CM 10.1 and flashed that. Immediately I noticed I was having an Exchange issue that was similar to the one I was having with the last release of ICS pushed from Rogers. Wanting to ensure that it was the ROM, I wiped and flashed CM 10, which worked perfectly fine.
So I wiped the phone and went back to BlackJelly.
Re: Exchange 2003 Support ICS -> JB 4.1.1 -> 4.2.1 Broken/Fixed/Broken
Disable HTML email. That is broken for 2003 Exchange.

It appears to work fine in the 4.1.1 releases.........
And that doesn't explain "push" mail not working in ICS or 4.2.1.
I found the info in the Enhanced Email forum.
I posted that all my accounts were fine except for my Live account.
The dev told me to disable HTML. So I did, and suddenly my Live started working properly again. The problem is only in 4.2 ROM's and Exchange 2k3 afaik. I never had the problem on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2.
Push works fine in my Hotmail & Gmail accounts.
And now in my Live also, after disabling HTML emails.

Just so I understand this correctly:
You were having the EXACT same issue as me? Push wasn't working, but fetch was (Exchange 2003 account) and deleted items were not disappearing out of your desktop Inbox when you deleted them from the phone? And disabling HTML mail fixed this?
Wiped and re-installed 4.2.1 again and magically it works properly????? WTH?????
Anyway, looks like problem solved itself......
