[Q] Don't know what to do anymore... - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hello Everyone,
Problem: Set up a word password for the lock screen, forgot the password, entered as many times what I could try to remember, couldn't remember it at all, forgot password option never appeared. Had data on sdcard so didn't care if I'm going to hard reset the phone.
From CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2 did the following ( a lot of times ) : wipe data/factory reset , wipe cache partition , format /system, format /cache, format /data, format /sdcard, format /external_sd as well ( different card ). Rebooted. Everything seemed normal, initial setup, google account, date/time, location/gps. browsing through the phone until the 30seconds backlight timeout passed and screen went off. I press unlock/power button and viola, password prompt back again. WTF ? I DID everything.. did the same thing again, this time, after the initial setup, did samsung's code *2767*3855#, started automatically doing factory reset. again after this, initial setup and still password prompt. did this again, went into settings and change screen lock, and it said to enter password. Seeing that's not helping, downloaded a stock rom, and flashed it through odin 4.43. everything seemed good until again went to screen lock settings and same thing. after screen went black, the same thing.
rooted again, installed cwm, flashed custom rom bagux-project-rom-v1.4, seemed good until went to settings and prompt there as well as screen went black turned it on and prompt again.
gbsIII rom - same problem
cow rom - same problem
ehndroix 12.9.13 - same problem
f.a.w. ris4 - same problem all these roms based on 2.3.6/2.3.7
flashed ancora_signed(cyanogenmod) - NO PROBLEM
flashed cm-9 experimental - NO PROBLEM
flashed RemICS_1.7 - NO PROBLEM
Problem is that I really want ENERGY SAVING OPTIONS because that way the battery lasted me two full days on normal/median usage, texting calling wifi and 3G. ICS DO NOT HAVE THIS AND therefore my battery on the same type of activity lasts not even a day.
ALSO, Somehow, wifi drastically downgraded it's performance meaning it takes really long to turn on, sometimes scans sometimes doesn't, when there is 100% a signal in one spot, it won't find it at all, and other time it will and the worse part is that when it connects, and connection is, ip and everything good, internet doesn't work. < this only on ICS or cyanogenmod. < but this is not what I'm concerned about. Just saying if It might help.
I don't know what to do anymore... I'm not a noob at this because I have rooted MYSELF and flashed roms and other stuff to Samsung Gio Samsung Galaxy S II and Htc Desire-Z (a7272) and now I have my wonder I8150 and this is just SHOCKING TO ME. I really did not expect something like this...
it looks like something easy to fix however on the other side..i don't know.. maybe I am not doing an extra step ?
Please, I really need assistance..

So let me get this straight. You couldn't get rid of your lockscreen in any GB rom, then decided to flash an ICS rom and it worked but you want to save battery. Then you discovered the wifi problem and you don't know what to do. Right?

So because you didn't reply as fast as i thought, i will just answer what i understood.
1-about your lockscreen problem, this is might be because of a restore you previously set to automatic. I actually don't have any other reason cuz this just never happened to me or ever heard of it.
2- And about the power saving you want to have in ICS. I have tried that build-in power saver, it doesn't work as well as some other power savers from the playstore.
Adding to (2) i don't use any power saver cuz they just turn down your phone's speed to save battery. I use setcpu (app from playstore) to create different profiles that work in different times (like when screen is off speed goes down as i don't need it and when screen is on speed comes back up).
3- The wifi problem you only noticed in ICS because its a bug in arco's kernel which almost every JB/ICS kernel is based on, but don't worry arco will soon find a cure. But until then, when this happens just long press the wifi icon in the statusbar and it will open the wifi settings, which will start an automatic search and connect from there.
Sorry for not waiting, i'm still 15 and have a test tomorrow and highschool life to worry about

Hey &Amada
Thanks for replying and to my response time, I just got home, lol..
The problem I have is with the lockscreen (password prompt). if I flash a stock or custom gb rom, the lockscreen ( password prompt )turns on after the screen turns black ( after 30 seconds ) and returning to the "restore / backup , I didn't set it all, it was already ticked, the automatic part, on every gb rom too and worse was I couldn't untick it...
Right now I have ICS ancora beta 3 and there is a "performance" tab in settings before "about phone" and in thereis processor - change cpu governor and clock speed and types like consevative ondemand performance interactive powersave and minimum cpu frequency and max and set on boot. If setting a lower clock when screen is off would improve my battery or at least I would notice it then I would go for it but here's a great example. right now, on ics, when i take out the usb charger cable from phone, the second i take it out, 100% drops to 99%. in gb rom, stayed on 100% for about 30minutes minimum. just comparing. and this is on the same usage.
I went to a service guy, which my friend from school knows and recommendem I'm 18 btw and in high school as well and he said it might be faulty cache ( the memory part ) because it's similar to people's dead sdcards in phones and password prompts appear for them and the phone interprets it as a security exploit or break and therefore takes it as a password prompt.
& to the wifi, it's not a big problem, but it is annoying.

Okay, maybe you could go back to gb or JB i am using pacman and it rocks i didn't face the wifi problem since flashed.
But if you really want to go back to gb here is my suggestion:
You said that after you flashed gb with sometime, the lockscreen comes back. So just as soon as you reboot from flashing just install a lock screen replacement from the market or such. And make sure they can be toggled in the accessibility section of the settings. That way it will automatically disable the lockscreen even if it comes back

Hey, I tried "MyLock utilities" but it did not work.. apps aren't an answer to keep bypassing the screen lock all the time.. I don't get why the phone "remembers" the password even though it's formatted... faulty memory ?

New cool3d sense 3.0 user request explanations

Hello mans, as you can see from my messages i'm new, i'm here just for the Custom roms and program-developing help.
well yesterday I decided to change the desire OS and choosing from the semi-official 2.3 to a custom rom i found this that seems stable as they say and it got the new sense interface that i like because I'm not searching for a powersaver/minimal android but a good-first looking.
so I easily rooted my phone and changed the bootloader with alpharew.
after 2 tryes i managed to get the CM7 R2 hboot.
after that it was a challenge...first of I made a back up, installed the rom and the fixes. I got a boot loop. after some panic (coz backup wasn't doing anything) i started to search everywhere for infos when finally I found a comment on a blog that sayd that the sd must be partitioned with the ext4 of at least 1gb!
after that it was pretty simple i installed the packet for synk the extension, the rom and it worked without boot fix.
i fixed the weather app with the package and now seems done.
BUt ...ther's everytime a but...
if i go to power efficiency when I lock and unlock the phone it looses my location weather dataand i need to manually synk them, but after another schreen lock they go away another time.
and when i pull down the upper bar it start to come down nearly 0.8 seconds from when i touch it.
uh, a strange thing is that today, when I was going to take a walk with my dog I wanted to try the srs or other stuff from the new music app and my battery was "yellow" i'm shure it was yellow, no red or black with red square and slash, after 50 seconds of audio reproduction my phone shut down and it wasn't restarting as it have reached the minumum cell voltage.
this was pretty scary!
and why if I make a complete reboot it takes minutes for turn on? a lot of time stays on jocker face and more on the htc splashschreen.
but if i turn off normally it restarts as fast as a pc in suspension mode.
is there some fix that i must install ? sorry but i cannot post in dev and that thread is a labyrinth! choosing a random page i found something like an mms bugfix but nothing explayns...
please can someone help this noob (me) finding what i'm searching for?
tank you!
Hmm... A lot here to answer, but here goes...
1) Most ROM's here use a2sd which requires a partitioned sd card to move apps to your sd card instead of keeping them on the phones memory. Usually a 1gb ext3 or ext4 partition is ok, with the rest of your sd card fat32. Use GParted to do this as it's the easiest method I've found (you can get it here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php).
2) Always always always read the first comment in a thread as it'll tell you information you'll need to flash a ROM. The first comment in the ROM you have chosen says "EXT4 Partition For A2SD". This would have told you you needed an ext4 partition.
3)By turning on power efficiency you are turning off auto sync. Which means you will have to manually sync things like weather all the time when you wanna use it. If you want it to sync automatically turn off power efficiency.
4) The Cool3D 3.0 Sense ROM is still in it's early stages. There are still some lags that haven't been fixed. The notification bar is one of them. The best way to get the ROM moving faster is to update the kernel. There's a few good kernels around which you can try (snq / bananacakes etc), and you can find them in the development section. Experiment and find one that works well for you.
5) If the battery is yellow it means it's getting low. HTC Sense uses a lot of power to make it look pretty. Battery life is not great. Best thing to do is always start the day on a full charge, and try a battery saving app such as "Juice Defender" from the market. If you want your battery to last longer maybe try using an aosp ROM instead of a Sense ROM.
6) A complete re-boot means the phone has a lot to do before it can re-start. A lot of data has to be read by the phone from a completely switched off state to fully awake. This takes time. HTC Sense has a lot going on to make it look pretty, and it takes time to load all of this. A hot restart does not completely shut everything down so it doesn't take so long. It basically shuts down and restarts all of the running applications without completely shutting down the system.
There's no quick fixes for all of these things. What you've got to remember is that the good old Desire was never designed to run a ROM with this much going on, so it's working hard to do everything.
Cool3D AceS is only in it's second version. Give it some time and it will get faster and smoother with the next versions.
If it is really too slow for you I suggest trying InsertCoin 1.1.4 which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
It's not quite as pretty, but is still HTC Sense and very fast.
Hope this helps. If it does, click "Thanks".

When you make a complete reboot, the phone completely shuts down and boots up again, which means it will have to go through all the boot process and system checks which will take a while. However, when you turn off normally (pressing power off), it will not shut down completely but instead hibernates (HTC Fast Boot Feature). So when you switch it on again it just restores your previous state which makes it faster in booting up (7 seconds boot up according to HTC)
tank you for the answer, of course i clicked thank you!
yes i notice that the fast boot is incredible! but I think that sometimes is good to reboot.. is it true?
well the battery life is good, I charged it up yesterday, for the night shut off and till this early morning it's in the run, half time with wi fi, a bit of music, lot of messaging, 20min of hotspot and i got pretty good state, now i'm installing some program and it got -2 levels to full . the battery drain seems more or less the same as before, it doesn't lag it's just perfect it have just that bar-glitch and the autoscroll to right when moving and keep pressed the touch but it's not annoying.
2) oh I found it on the link for alignment...
4) i red somewere taht the new kernel makes the phone lag.. so I'm not shure about what to do and how I should install them? what can chenge for the outher OS? (rom)
If a fix will come out for this rom where i can know when/where it is uploaded? will it be posted on the first post of the rom?
btw i'm searching for a rom that gives me sense 3.0, i saw insert coin, seems something really professional as the japanese iOS semi-replica (that is hilarious)
I'm searching for something that gives to the phone a tech, advanced and over completed look so i'm gonna keep this until it will reveal me a big bug. and if it's good enought a donation can be really good for developers.
btw if you know some bugfix that is not listened and it's needed tell me plz
tank you again!

Post issues found in the ICS Leak (I927UCLG9)

its real nice to finally have some ICS goodness on my phone, but i have found some issues.
my Motorola Roadster 2 bluetooth speakerphone does not work well with this version of ICS. will not let me use the call/text button.
i am finding some apps not working correctly, i.e. Pushover - the notifications do not make a sound. Not sure if that is an app issue, or an ICS issue.
*edit* ok so it seems that i am not getting any notification sounds. sms, voicemail, etc...
also the volume in general does not seem as loud as the 2.3.6 firmware was.
anyone else find any issues?
*UPDATE* after wiping within cwmr most of my issues were no longer present. the only problem i had still was that notification sounds didnt work after a couple hours. i dont know the cause, but i used audio manager widget and set the profile to loud, and restarted phone. havent had them go out since.
I have all these issues except tue bluetooth thing

atleast it is not me.
i am going to reflash my phone to see if it may be an issue with not clearing out the phones memory and storage first...
My wifi didn't work for a while. It would see my access point but wouldn't connect. Reset the router and everything went back to normal. GPS works, Stereo BT/OBEX works, 4G works, camera works. Those were my big items, as I'm sure they are most people's.
My only issues are that I can't switch to 2g (At&t rom....) and how friggin Touch-wizzy everything is. I was expecting them to embrace the whole holo thing a lot more, but all the buttons feel like they belong in GB, same with the notification menu and the settings icons.
EDIT: I am on rogers, in case any rogers people see this so they know that everything works on our network
i wiped via cwmr and reflashed the ics rom. notifications work again. have not rooted yet, wondering if that may have been an issue with it...
Changing the lcd DPI causes the rom to corrupt i guess, since when i do it, after the reboot, i get to the samsung "logo" and then black screen, and it feels like the device has shut down. The only app that would say "success" when i change the value is Lcd Density Modder.
- i had the notification sound bug, but then i changed the notification sounds to my likings, and then i used Audio Manager widget to set the volume loud, no problems ever since.
ok rooted and all is fine. maybe i just had a bad flash. my bluetooth speakerphone still doesnt work, but that is an issue that i will have to research
For me, i had the only issue with ICS (excluding the known thing with the keyboard not flashing) - timezones from 2011 year with wrong summer times.
Luckyly fixed it with timezone fixer from google play.
Tethering doesn't work, seems to be broken and results in a blackscreen.. Both Usb and Wifi Hotspot give this issue.. Anyone else getting this
One weird thing my phone does is when it's been asleep for a while, the lockscreen clock will fall behind and when I wake it up, it'll catch up a couple dozen minutes at a time.

I've rogers version but unlocked and working with a local carrier. Wifi is not a problem at all, i'm getting the same speed and used wifi continuously for over 2 hrs to download all my apps back after the update.
When typing with the keyboard, pressing the alt. Key once makes it select all the special characters. I liked the older one where if you press it once, it operates just once when selecting the special character, and pressing it twice makes it select more than one. Not that big of an issue but to some people it may be.
Also, the brightness thing. When I turn off the screen, and turn it on again, it flashes from the highest brightness to the current.

On AT&T here, and having wifi issues as well... Once the phone drops wifi at idle, it doesn't want to pick it back up unless I turn wifi off and back on again. Setting the wifi to never sleep has been my only workaround.
Also having some issues with the button backlights. If I don't touch the phone long enough for the button backlight to turn off, touching the buttons won't turn the light back on. Touching the screen turns the backlight on again, but it's slightly annoying.
I haven't noticed any wifi issues and I use my Glide exclusively as a wifi device. I'm copying my backup of Inception v2 back right now though because the battery drain on the ICS ROM is definitely an issue. Losing like 10% an hour with my phone just sitting there with the screen off.

Have you ever took note of your battery life with a custom ROM or kernel? When I picked up my Glide it had a stock ROM but I only had it for an hour before I put a custom on it. I didn't mess with the stock one at all so I can't compare to stock 2.3.5/6. But with Inception v2/ardatdat, it was definitely better.
I was going to restore my backup but copying it back to my phone made me realize how painful it is to copy backups with CWMR 6 compared to 5. That new blobs folder makes so many files that it took 3 hours to copy 3 of my backups over USB. Ouch.
But since last night, the battery life seems to be behaving better. Its been sitting here and not just dying. I'm wondering if it could be the battery stats file. Maybe I'll try wiping it. I'm sure once we get a lower voltage kernel and I can underclock with profiles for the screen-off and stuff, it'll be fine again.
Unrelated but has anyone taken a screenshot with the ROM yet? ICS is supposed to have it built in, power button + volume down at the same time for a few seconds from what I read, but didn't seem to work.
Edit: Its home + power button at the same time.

3G Periodically Shuts Off

Have Cyanogen Mod installed, constantly have 4 bars of 3G data in Brooklyn, NY.
Whenever I'm using the phone in hand, the data shuts off every 10 to 45 minutes. The only way to bring it back on reliably is to go into the settings, turn off data, put it into airplane mode, wait a few seconds, then turn it back to normal mode.
There's no "data" toggle on the top-screen slide-down applet, so this is kind of a pain in the ass to do every single time this happens.
Has anyone else experienced this and/or solved it?
I have had this on my EVO, and it may just be the ROM. I have not ran CM b/c the other ROM's that are based off CM have more features like a notification toggle for data, which would help you.
I recommend doing a full wipe and re-install of the ROM. You can use Titanium Backup to save everything and restore everything. It should be like nothing changed, and hopefully it fixes that bug. If not, maybe resort do a different version of CM or ROm altogether.
Best of luck with this, it is annoying, but not the worst problem you can get (on the bright side).

random freezes

I'm sure this may have been covered, but I'm really getting tired of having to pull the battery every time. My poor back cover is losing its hooks from doing it up to 3 times a day. So far, it hasn't been a certain app or action that causes it, it seems quite random. It will just completely freeze with no button presses, only thing to do is pull the battery. I've used multiple different ROMs, but it seems to happen on every one. Is this just something I'll have to deal with or is there any kind of fix?
Weel, to avoid the back cover damaging it's better (if you have a PC next to you) that you reboot through adb reboot instead pulling the battery...
For better understanding your problem you've to tell which rom are you using, which kernel, how did you install it (clean or dirty flash), have you restored setting with TiBu or other apps, and last but not least if you're configuring your phone with some strange settings (i.e. overclock, undervolt, tweaked build.prop and so on).
Currently, I'm running jbsourcery 4.3 with zen kernel 16 with it set on pegasusq and sio, no other over clock or under volt settings. I've tried comotio, atom, factoryrom, cleanrom, paranoid, and I can't remember what else. I've also tried trinity, air, and Franco kernels. Every time I flash something new, I do a full wipe, cache, dalvik, factory reset, and format system. I usually use ROM toolbox pro to restore apps and settings as opposed to tibu, but the last time I let Google restore the apps, then restored data to the ones I needed.
I'd return to stock (Google factory images) for a couple of days to test if the random freezes stop.
I have had a similar experience to yours. I have noticed the nearest thing to a common theme is it usually seems to happen when going from WiFi to 4g or 3g and sometimes from a 3g signal to a 4g signal (or the other way around). It also happens immediately when trying to turn off airplane mode. It is very frustrating. The experience has been minimized since going to mmuzzy's room and tiny's kernel. On that setup, I haven't had to do a battery pull in a little over a week. I am guessing it is because mmuzzy's room is much closer to source. You might give it a try.

Should be mmuzzy's ROM. Spell check not always helpful!

I went ahead and took your advice and ran bone stock for a couple days. It was good the first day, the second day the freezes started again. I went ahead and flashed one of the stable AOKP builds with zen kernel and it still freezes. I just downloaded the team lean AOKP and am gonna try that next, but its just so frustrating!

Tiny4579 (developer of the Tiny kernel), just reported that this is a known issue with the stock kernel and that until Google fixes the issue there is nothing any developer can do to fix it. While it doesn't fix the problem, it helps me to know that. BTW, I have had the fewest with Tiny kernel of any I have tried.

Nothing like that here, tested for long enough with stock, custom built aosp and CyanogenMod.
Are you sure it ain't the app data you're restoring?...
When we say go back to stock to test, you need to run stock with the bare minimum and not restoring anything. I.e To test, I run stock with 2 extra apps: a file manager and supersu, for over a week.

Severe Wake-Up Lag

I've heard of the usual 2 or 3 second lag for most users. They'll try to wake up their phone with the power button, but there's about a two or three second delay. I wouldn't care at all if I had that!
My problem is far more sinister. I don't have the usual wake lag. It's dynamic and unpredictable.
Let me explain. When I first boot up my phone (or restart it) it works flawlessly. No lag—nothing. Not even the three second wake lag most people get. Then, out of nowhere (I can't pinpoint when it starts) I'll try to wake it up and... nothing! The backlight will turn on (that very dim black light) along with the soft keys. They'll turn on fine, but my display will not show up. Funny thing though, sometimes I'll tap the screen and it'll vibrate as if it was on. The only way to fix this is one of two ways: restart the phone (very annoying) or turn it on and wait. Sometimes, eventually the display will kick in but I have about a second to react before it shuts off. Then, I have to press the power button twice more to turn off the backlight and turn it back on and wait for the display to kick in. If I tap and swipe to unlock, I'm mostly in the clear. But, most of the time it takes SwiftKey about 30 seconds to respond. I'll tap and tap and nothing will be written, but after 30 seconds of spamming it'll finally start to write. Then, my phone has minor/no lag while the display is still on. But, if I let it shut off, then it starts all over again. Backlight, but no display.
Sometimes I'll be lucky: I had a three day streak of no lag at all, but then it happened. It really is random, and I have no idea what could be causing this. It wasn't always this way either.
I have this rooted and am running CarbonRom (Android 4.4)
ANY help would be appreciated. Nothing seems to fix this permanently.
Try another rom, or better yet... Try stock 4.1.2 for comparison. Install the same things on it and see. It could be certain apps slowing your phone down, or lack of ram, or your setup.
Mine is on stock 4.1.2...and I'm sometimes amazed when I do pick it up and use it, like when I'm charging my other phone, at how zippy it is. It's not way slower feeling like you'd think it would be, at all.

Also a cache and dalvik wipe can often help. Especially on older devices.
This is a common issue with KK ROMs & kernels. Try a JB ROM instead.

Agreed, a dalvik cache and a cache wipe will often help. What would be the best way to update to stock 4.1.2 from stock 4.0.3? It is not showing up in ota and I can't use kies or Odin as I don't have a Windows computer. Heimdall can only seem to successfully install ICS on this phone.

You could just flash a stock 4.1.2 rom... Tho its usually best to Odin stock first , then flash things 4.1.2 and higher.
Yeah, without a pc ... Not sure what you can do. Maybe you could visit someone that has Windows pc ?
You can try just flashing a stock rom, buy good chance you'd freeze at boot up.

Don't know. All I know is when I try flashing 4.1.2 in Heimdall it freezes after Android is upgrading and then boot loops. I've tried wiping data, cache, and falcon after flashing and it still didn't work. I'll probably just stock with AOSPA since it is fairly stable right now and has decent battery life.

I'm running CarbonROM + WildKernel. Currently, I have no problems with wakeup lag when tapping the power button. Though, when I recieve a call, it takes several seconds for the screen to wake. I have my kernel configured for 96Mhz when screen is off. You might try increasing the base cpu frequency and see if that helps. You might also try changing your cpu governor and see if that helps.
However, your tapping the power button twice description might be indicative of something wrong with your power button. Just a thought. These particular phones are known to have issues with the power button after time.

96mhz will definitely cause some things to lag on wake. Test it tho and then compare to 300. I very much doubt you'll see any difference in battery life at all.
Thanks for all the replies, and I just may have to try a ROM that's a bit older. This phone is basically ancient history now, but it suits me well. I'll try the stock JB ROM but probably won't keep it—I do enjoy having the features many custom ROMs include.
I've also installed and ran LagFix free from Google Play, and I can say it greatly reduced the frequency of the wake lag occurring. It still happens but for the most part it turns on fine.

Twice in meaning once to turn off the backlight to put it to sleep and then once more to attempt to "wake" it up again.

You are right, I just looked at the voltage tables in my ROM and everthing below 153Mhz uses the same amount of power.
I'm going to try 153Mhz for awhile and see if that helps. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

How much time do you wait between button pushes. On my rom, it they are I press the button twice in immediately consecutive pushes, it does take a second or two for the phone wake. However, if I wait a second or two before pressing the power button again, wakeup is almost instantaneous. I attribute this to the fact that even though the screen is powered off, it takes a little bit of time for the phone to actually go to sleep. The phone might be lagging because it has to wait for the phone to sleep before it can wake up again.
