Check out my thread on ram.
What is the problem?
Gesendet von meinem LT26i
31MB is very low. I never get below 98MB. But when it gets so low i use a app called Systempanel lite(widget on the home screen). After killing it i get 200 a 300 MB.
I don't know what the people do to get that consume of ram. Only crap installed with all bloatware? :S

True. after every reboot i have 300 to 400MB free ram.
Check your apps...
Some apps consume a lot of ram , especially, those apps running in background...
I have 200+ apps installed with at least 150MB ram free...
Choose your apps smartly

Im really worried about my defy's RAM. My defy uses only 204/477mb RAM when every apps is closed ?! What could be reason for that ?
I really need help !
Thanks in advance!
you can flash cm7. in CM free memory about 300 and more mb
seems a bit high, but i wouldnt worry about that. you probably have a lot of system apps running, which you cant kill or uninstall until you root your device. mine uis using 160MB average, but i uninstalled every system app that i dont use.

I count that something 320mb free RAM is normal on defy.

What ROM are you running?
When I was running motorola firmware the absolute maximum RAM I could have free was 207MB.
Under CM7 I honestly haven't noticed, because it's never been a problem unlike moto firmware (which would slow to a crawl with anything less than 90MB free).

I´m just curious here, how much memory do you have free on your phone?
Mine are 148 MB free ROM and 281 MB free RAM.
Does this in anyway correlate to how fast games run?
Bring me some of your numbers! =)
the xperia play has a total of 380 MB ROM , its enough for lots of apps , and if its not , you can always move your apps to SD Card and free some space

That´s interesting. My numbers in the first post is on 4.0.2.A.0.42. I have removed apps that I deem unneccesary and want to make gaming run as speedy as possible.
I wonder if the new update will use more or less RAM than before, or if it even will be a difference?

If you´re rooted you can bring about drastic changes in the memory-area, turn off stuff running in the background eating RAM-memory etc.
I have used titanium backup and deleted a lot of system apps that I don´t use. I use my phone for: Telephoning, Messaging, Surfing, Gaming (emulator), and Google Maps. Nothing more.

All I can tell you do is root and remove system apps. That frees up a lot of space. Also put everything on the sd card.

You must have a misunderstood concept of free RAM. Actually, the less free RAM you have, the faster your apps get. This free RAM is consumed by cached processes invisible to anything else that is not a system app. You can go to the Free RAM screen, press Menu and select Show Cached Processes to see your true free RAM. The more cached RAM there is, the faster it gets. I remember someone here at these forums actually posted the difference between "free" and free RAM, can't remember though. The Xperia Play can run BOTH of them at the same time, just like an iPhone 4S, especially if you are supercharged.

Also using Link2sd with a 2ext 1gb partition(575mb used/443mb free). Internal memory's at 201mb free. RAM is ~200(240 on boot, settles around 202).
-Stock R800x 2.3.3 rooted w/o vzw's bloatware. Ive got zeppelinrox's v6 Supercharger update9 r7 running with option 6 and bulletproof important apps. SetCPU stock speeds, just some profiles. Dalvik linked to sd as well.
I've gotta say it took some tweaking, but this phone is SNAPPY. All thanx to the devs here at xda. Lots of love fellas!
Dunno for your, but for me it's hell. After boot's over, i have about 100mb of RAM avalaible and as it gets around 40mb, phone gets very laggy (like, call starts 2minutes after pressing call button...)
That happens quickly of course, since most apps use around 20mb (browser much more)... After that, only thing to do is reboot... And that take some time! And it can takesSo is there a way to "improve" that?
What I have started doing in my routine is when I am done using an app instead of just pressing the home button I press the back button until I am all the way out of the app. Also I don't use a task manager anymore since it seemed to hurt my phone more then help.

I'm on doomlord kernel v14 with zRAM activated and Xperia s rom and when I'm not listening to music the ram free is around 200mb if you can I recommend you to flash that Rom doesn't has lot of internal apps and when flashing the firmware it gets a lot of internal memory free
Other would be that you buy ram manager pro from market its a very helpful app when to ram managing is related

Ups that Rom is only for GSM buy try that app or v6 supercharger script both helps a lot
Sent from my R800i using XDA
I use v6 supercharger and titanium backup to move most of my apps to sdcard. I usually hover around 190-200mb free. And that is with all gameloft games, shadowgun, and about a total of 40+ games. I am also on stock Verizon rom with all bloat deleted via titanium. No lag anywhere. Everything is silky smooth.

Try doing a clean flash and delete all the stock crap apps, then try with Ram manager, on my play i feel that supercharger is not helping in games, niether on battery life, i will try using zram from doomkernel.

i think about your problem with ram
(every method need root, some recovery too)
U can make swap file/partition if u have enough fast sdcard (i heard that min. is class 4, but more=better). Partition can be created using recovery i think (I never need this). Swap file can be created using a-swapper or Swapper for Root - I've newer used it too

I switched from an OG droid so having 512 mb of ram is a dream in my opinion. Lol. I appreciate what I have and that is a sweet gaming phone that cost me $35 because I got the phone free and only had to pay the CA tax on the full unsubsidized price of the phone. I love my phone to death! Sure I could do with more ram but it works just fine for me as is ^_^

The topics don't correlate. When Android needs more RAM, it'll close applications automatically - that being said, your speed issue isn't RAM related.
fast reboot is a nice app to use. its kinda like a reboot but without rebooting. it frees up ram. android might free up ram on its own when needed, but it does not do a good enough job, no matter what other people say. fmr memory cleaner is also a nice app to use.

Pretty much said it all. That said unused ram isn't going to make your phone faster. If anything having more apps cached in the ram will. Unused ram is wasted ram Imo.
Thanks for the clarification guys

how to control running background app to free more RAM on my Arc ?
i used task killer, but apps return to open again and used Autostart to limit the starting apps with system starting, but RAM is consumed by the apps running in the background.
lagging is the meaning of my ARC now.
it's very very annoying .. any help here ?!
Rom : Xperia Ultimate HD™ 2.0.3
kernel : LuPuSv9
the free RAM range always bet. 40 ~ 130
Seems normal for me. I had to disable apps i didn't really use that were using any ram =/
maybe try this script? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928200
Go to settings - programs - all
Tap the ones you dont need and disable
Task killers waste more energy and make your phone even more laggy because you keep clearing processes from the RAM. I could explain all that but it'd take some time which I dont have now -
So I'll just say that free RAM is wasted RAM. Task killers are stupid, something else is causing the lag.
