I have a takju galaxy nexus on T-Mobile. I have never had any issues ever since i added tethering onto my data plan.
Yesterday I applied the 4.2 update to my stock galaxy nexus via adb side load. Ever since then, wifi tethering to my laptop had been very slow and inconsistent while tethering to my Nexus 7 has worked properly.
Has anyone noticed any similar issues?
Also, I can slide to delete/archive in gmail, but pinch to zoom hasn't worked so far.
Anyone have any ideas?

There's a setting in gmail that enables the pinch to zoom. I remember reading it somewhere - it's not obvious. I think it's called auto-fit or something. Sorry, I don't have it installed so I don't know what the setting is called for sure.
Tethering broken in 4.2
Same here. WiFi Tethering doesn't work. WiFi Tethering for Root users doesn't work either.
Working on mine.
Yakju now flashed to Takju. Nexus 7 and my notebook (T420) can perfectly use the connection from my GN.
I installed the USB drivers on the same WinXP laptop that I was having problems with and tried the USB tethering option.
USB tethering worked perfectly on the laptop, which points to a problem with the wireless radio on the phone or the laptop.
To try to stay on the safe side, I did a factory reset on the Galaxy Nexus (which still left me at 4.2) and tried again. Still the same issues with the laptop, and fine on the tablet......until just a minute ago...
....I *just* started having some connectivity issues with the Nexus 7 (slow, doesn't connect sometimes). I pulled the phone out of wireless mode and hooked it back up to the laptop and USB tethering works perfectly.
I am starting to wonder if the wifi hotspot feature has been messed up somehow by the 4.2 update.
Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 2007-FVG
-EDIT-
Restarted Android wifi hotspot. Nexus 7 connectivity via wifi seems fine, but some sites won't load. www.xda-developers loads fine, but forum.xda-developers.com gives me an HTTP Error 500
Just installed the GNEX OTA my phone has been bugging me about for the past 48 hrs. Wanted the new camera app and Gmail zoom, so I finally took the plunge. Wifi Tether is now broken (note: mine was working fine on 4.1.2, contrary to some other things I've read about that OTA breaking it).
Tether starts "with errors". Log shows failures at the "Configuring AP" and "Starting AP" stages. All other launch stages succeed. Program says it is running but no signal is broadcast that my other devices can detect.
Hopefully my 4.1.2 backup will get me back to operational. The 4.2 changes are nice, but not worth losing tether for.

Craig Gomez found a fix for this .. it was a problem in Framework. Check MMuzzy's 4.2 thread under VZW Development
Thanks for the tip.
Question: this is a ZIP with folders:
LocationServicesAndTetheringFix.zip\META-INF\com\google\android
- update-binary
- updater-script
LocationServicesAndTetheringFix.zip\system\framework
- framework-res.apk
Not sure what to do with this. How do I apply the fix?
EDIT
I tried to use Clockwork to apply the .zip. It aborted the install.
EDIT 2

I just got my takju nexus upgraded to 4.2, tested tethering and it still works fine. (To tablet)

Shouldn't be the issue, because only Verizon and Sprint provision the tethering app. Its been like this since ICS.

This exact thing with the WiFi Tether app happens for me as well. Also, the native Android USB tether and Wifi tether don't work. Native Wifi tether gives me a "network authentication key mismatch" error on my Windows computer if my hotspot is configured for WPA2, and if it's open with no encryption, I get an unknown network error (something about Windows detecting no configuration issues, but being unable to connect to any outside websites). USB tether is also broken--it worked once, but it took ages to initialize, and since then I can't get it to work whatsoever. I never had this problem in 4.1.2 or any previous Android version, and it only started once I upgraded to 4.2.
Considering downgrading to get tethering functionality back, 4.2 is an absolutely lackluster upgrade, and with all of its bugs my phone is quite unstable and less-useful...
There is workaround:
I set security to WPA PSK
and password: qwertyasd (whatever doesn't matter i guess)
And in windows i have changed adapter settings:
IP v4: Auto
(if not working try to set foolowing:
ip 192.168.43.x x-> number from 2 to 254 if it's not working after connecting again change to diffrent number
mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.43.1)
DNS:
primary: 8.8.8.8
secondary: 4.4.4.4
And it's working....
Sorry for bad english.
Regards from Poland
I did a lot more testing with other devices and the wifi tethering phone seems to be working properly. False alarm.
I guess maybe my laptop might be about to break....
4.2 seems awful so far. I can't seem to save images from e-mails anymore (the "save" option is always greyed out), the gallery crashes when I click in a certain spot on the screen (button with three circles?), tethering is completely broken, waking the phone up is now buggy, slow, and generally problematic (lockscreen disabled, not sure if it's the same with the lock screen), trying to "paste" text into a text input box in Chrome is now impossible because a long press now causes some kind of infuriating auto-zoom which promptly clears the "paste" button from the screen, text is randomly deleted and the text input cursor jumps wildly when pressing the backspace key... this is about the most annoying sequence of bugs I can imagine.
Android 4.2 added zero useful features apart from Swype, which I could have gotten from the market anyway. Kind of absurd to push this unpolished nonsense OTA.

Anony, something is wrong with your phone or the OTA went wrong. I just tested all the issues you are referencing above on my 4.2 GNex and cannot reproduce any of it. The save is not greyed out on pictures (only tested .PNG), the three circles in gallery open up picture editing options, (thank you for pointing this put, I didn't notice it before), tethering works fine, and I have not experienced any issues with waking up the phone.
With that said, I have experienced force closes and unexplained battery drain, but I am fairly sure they are caused by Ingress and not related to 4.2, although I cannot be 100% sure.

I'm also in the same situation when it comes to tethering not working on Jellybean 4.2. When I go back to 4.1 everything is working just fine. I'm curious to know why this only affects a small group of people who have flashed a 4.2 roms.

Unlocked GNex - since update to 4.2, wifi tether does NOT work IF configured for WPA-2.
It DOES work if configure to WPA.
Have not yet applied 4.2.1 update.
How many of you installed 4.2 via OTA and how many of you installed it via ADB or with a 3rd party ROM?
I did not wait for the OTA. I used adb, but the file I used was supposed to be the official takju 4.2. I even received the 4.21 upgrade a few weeks later.

Hey guys I am having problems with the wifi hotspot on my Nexus with my Mac. It will connect fine but after about 5 min the internet will cut out but still remain connected. Have no problems with my iPhone 4 from work so it is something to do with the phone. Any ideas on how to fix it? Very frustrating.

Are you on 4.0.1? I heard that .1 has some kind of issues with tethering taht were solved in newer builds. Did you try to tether to some other computer?
Yeah I am on 4.0.1. Have not tried other computer. Have found turning location services off fixes the problem. Is it hard to flash to yakju build so I can get 4.0.2? Is there any way to do this to void my warranty?

IMHO this whole yakju-better-than-yakjusomething is over hyped. There were threads where yakjusomething builds got updates, and yakju didn't. I wouldn't bother my self to wipe phone and flash other builds If I were you, well I'm not going to do that since I have yakjuxw or something similar It's still a Nexus, you WILL get any update as soon as it will be possible! Earlier I had Nexus S i9023 with SLCD screen (I loved that screen BTW) and I was getting updates couple of weeks after Android sites started to write about them. It looks like Google disabled updates after battery complains from users. For some time now I haven't heard about anyone getting .3 or .2 update to any SGN. Just my thoughts, sorry for little OT
Thanks again for the reply. Yeah I might just leave it as it is until I get the update. Turning location services off doesn't seem to fix the problem it is still disconnecting. Will just use my iPhone 4 for now :-(
Have now also found that I can not connect the nexus through bluetooth either. The Mac won't even recognise it. Any way around this? Grrrr

Thanks mate . Bluetooth is working ok now. Have found an app called wifi hotspot which seems to be holding the connection.
im also having the exact same issue. i'm on att. running an AOSP custom 4.0.3 Rom. I tried using att's tether apn and it keeps reverting back to Cingular 410, however i dont believe this is the issue, i think its related to the OS itself. is it Mac related? i have no other computers to test it with :-/
Maybe this: https://plus.google.com/103583939320326217147/posts/1Yy1jb9z4TA will help? In the post there is a zip for mac
Hey mate thanks for the link unfortunately it doesn't make a difference and for some reason the net won't work on wifi hotspot at all now. It connects but that is it :-(.
I didn't have time to really look into it, but I have some idea. Can you try how will it work when you disable security in settings? I mean make it an open network for, a second and try some browsing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
that seemed to work on my nexus one and iphone 4 when i tethered. tried it with my gnex, same results, still showing connected, but no internet access after 5-15 min. i checked the status log of wifi tether for android, as it was doing the same thing with this app, and the it showed the wifi interface disconnecting by itself, i didn't do anything. Definitely OS related. Interestingly enough, this has happened both on the stock kernel and this franco 9.2 i'm running right now. Likewise with stock rom and this my current rom. so who knows.....very annoying though. :-/
Ok, with the network open on the Nexus the connection is fine on my Mac. As soon as I enable security though I have problems. Thanks heaps for the help so far but is there any solution available for this? Not real keen on leaving my connection open.
Sorry to bump. I'm having this issue as well. Verizon Galaxy Nexus on 4.0.2. My MacBook Pro connects to the hotspot fine and works for a bit, but then stops working. I can run network diagnostics to make it work again, but I have to keep doing that every 5-10 minutes or so and it makes it too annoying to use.
My iPad 2, iPhone 4, TouchPad, and mom's Windows laptop works just fine and never have these issues. It's only my MacBook. Anybody find a solution yet?
Exactly the same problem here.. Galaxy Nexus tethered wifi macbook pro running 10.7.2. Stays connected, but stopps passing any packets. Ipad, and other devices are still connected working properly, and the phone itself can use the LTE data connection. I've tried stock 4.0.2, as well as AOKP 4.0.3 latest build.. no luck. I've also tried both the native AP and android-wifi-tether too. Any help would be appreciated and rewarded.

PS - I even have the tethering option enabled on my Verizon account... (in case you were thinking it had something to do with big red blocking data)
I am still suffering this problem too. :-(. It is a real issue when I work outside the office a lot and do not have any problems with my work Iphone 4. I found pdanet works connected by USB but you can not access secure sites on the free version. Is there good alternative to pdanet?
hey guys. i now use an open network when i tether. it seems to keep a stable internet connection (packets transferring). the longest i've maintained a working tethering connection has been 2 hours....so it seemed good enough for me. Let me know how u guys fair if u do try an open network. still a weird issue imo that doesn't have too many solutions or even suggestions in the xda community (probably cause not many are tethering?). gl.
Hey, when I put my phone to an open connection mine is stable too. Must be something to do with the security. Wish there was a solution, I can't keep mine open the whole time :-(.
Anyone found a fix for this yet? Just about to return mine, tired of it not working. Have updated to 4.02 and my Mac to 10.7.3
Hi guys,
I've searched the whole forum but I couldn't find any other thread about my problem.
When I connect my HOX to WiIF (Sitecom WL-370 - 300N Gigabit Dualband Router) everything works fine at first, but after a few minutes (5, or sometimes 15 minutes) I've got no Internet anymore but I'm still connected. Also WiFI Analyzer still detects the network. I've this problem both on 2.4 GHz as on 5 GHz. I've also tried switching channels.
The strange thing is, I can still receive a WhatsApp message but I can't send any, also I can't browse on the Internet or things like that.
After turning my WiFi off and on it works fine again for the few minutes..
Best Wi-Fi performance is turned on and the other devices at home haven't got this problem.
Anyone having the same problem or knows a solution?
I've got the same problem and it seems to be totally random. What i noticed is that my Google Play Store always stops working (no connection) shortly after i turned on the phone (~10 minutes). Switching Wifi off and on again doesn't seem to change it, i need to restart my HOX to get it working again while other apps connect just fine after turning Wifi off and on again.
Edit: Stock Vodafone ROM (1.28.161.9)
I have the exact same issue and i went through every setting in my router trying to fix this.
I would turn on my WIFI, connect to my home network, and start downloading. After a few minutes it'll either stop (the dl percentage not change) and then if i reload the market/youtube/browser or any app that users the net, it'll say no connection.
The weird thing about this is that it LOOKS like i am connected to wifi (in the notification bar).
This may be a separate issue, but i tried to turn it off and then on again to get around the issue. This time around i would try to connect to my home wifi and it'll just say 'Saved' and then the network would go out of range.
I am running Leedroids rom.
I might have found a solution:
Under Settings -> Wifi -> Menu -> Extended there is an option for Wifi Power Saving. After unchecking it all my connectivity problems are gone.
May be worth trying a static IP configuration, if you know enough about ip4 to do it. I've seen problems with android Wi-Fi since version 2.2 - if your router issues an indefinite dhcp lease, it can show exactly the symptoms you describe. Only a possibility but worth a try.

I have the exact same issue - the wireless shows connected yet you cannot browse the Internet etc. I have also tried every setting on the Wireless AP without any success. Even tried static IP and that does not fix it either. Whilst other devices in the house are ok...
The weirdest thing is though it does not happen everywhere i.e. at other places like work (where at least the same type of AP is in use) or at my brothers' house (where he has a Linksys). This is pretty much the only thing that bugs me with the HTC - the only workaround I have found is to make sure that WiFi is kept on only at times when plugged in - this doesn't actually fix the issue but it does mean that the phone will disconnect the WiFi and get a new connection next time it wakes up - this way I find I get the problem much less than when I have it set to Always.

Yeah, exactly, I've got the same problem. At school I've got no problems with the WiFi. I already send a message to HTC and I'm waiting on there answer.
I have kinda the same issue.
Using a HOX and at work I'm connected to Wifi and I can browse. At my house I can connect to the wifi, my IP is right that I'm getting from DHCP (I even tried putting in a static IP) but I can't browse
I also have a HTC Sensation, same setup and it works. The sensation can browse at work and at my house.
Why would this be?
Tried all sorts of solutions, but the only one that works is disabling the N-band and only leave B and G. This means that your laptop won't connect with the faster N, but at least the HOX works (what's more important )
Well I tried broadcasting a separate SSID on the b/g interface only for the exclusive use for the hox but that hasn't made any difference...my workaround is to have tunein radio in the background streaming whilst surfing...if I get bored of that solution my next workaround will be to trade the hox for an s3 as much as I despise TW...

I tried all the bands "B, G, N" and nothing works. So tired of this crap. Think I might just get a S3

I was thinking to do the same but there is no chance in hell of me doing that after I compared my HOX with a display model at the phone shop. Pentile screen vs LCD on the HOX? HOX = Sharper and better whites - the white on the S3 is bluish and so obvious. Another thing also I noticed is that the aggressive auto brightness on the S3 is too much - you won't tolerate it and you will likely be forced to manually adjust all the time. That plus reading that the S3 goes through the battery like no mans business when on standby unless you turn off all the features and put it in power save mode (might as well buy a Nokia then) at least the HOX uses the Ninja core and actually does save your battery in standby mode.
Anyway - the reason I replied is that I found a workaround (note, workaround does not mean a fix) - I put in a wifi extender in an area where I tend to spent most of my time with the HOX - this has not fixed the problem per se but rather seems to have elevated it somewhat. Basically now if the HOX drops from the main offending AP it automatically gets hooked up on to the extender and carries on working! I say this because (and I saw this only twice so far) I realised that when the phones Internet connection stops and you load a new page it timed out and get page cannot be found but when I hit refresh it works again you do notice a 3-4 second lag (this never happened before the extender came into play). Not sure if anyone else has tried this but I got a Linksys/Cisco extender for £69 and so far at least it has given me a workaround. Of course your mileage may vary...so don't splash out on an extender and come and blame me if it doesn't work for anyone here...
I am also having this issue with my HOX has anyone found a fix for this?
i have tried everything listed and nothing works.
its weird though because i have NO issues on my home network, but my network in my apartment here and at work network i get this issue
!!
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuummp any fixes??? this sucks !!!!
What versions of android you guys have? Stock, sense, vanilla android, ics, jelly bean? Because I didn't encounter this problem when running stock or ics custom roms. After I updated hboot to 1.31 and tried different jelly bean sense roms it appeared. I also tried some stock android roms (ice cold jelly and liquid smooth) and wifi seemed to work fine. So is this sense problem only?

The only change for me is update to HBOOT 1.31 and then things started happening. Otherwise runnin 4.0.4.
No workaround so far, at least i have not founf a way.
edit: can't post links, too much noob.
go to google code, search for -- Issue 38563: Upgrade to 4.1.2 broke tethering --
My tethering appears to have gone to crap since 4.1.2
There are quite a few variables so I'm not sure where the problem is, on top of that the issue is not 100% consistent.
It appears that when I am not tethered I get a decent ping on my phone (150ms, 95%)
Shortly after initiating a tether my connection goes straight to hell (300-3000ms 50%)
My laptop is often even worse than my phone.
This is usually with a full 5 bars of 'H'.
I'm gathering the ping stats from my phone with terminal emulator.
I'm using a MacBook Air.
I will try to reproduce the issue with my nexus 7 when I have some spare time.
Anyone else experiencing something similiar?

I, like many others have had this problem since 4.1.2, rolled back to 4.1.1 and WiFi tethering worked again. Back to 4.1.2, stopped working again. Installed 4.2 on Gnex yesterday hoping for fix but still no good.
As 4.1.2 is "old hat" now I have started new issue at Google for 4.2 here
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39618
Please anybody with same problem go there and add to report.
DO NOT turn it into a *****ing thread like so many here on xda.!!! The item to which luck02 referred for 4.1.2 at code.google.com is just full of twats ranting about their phone suppliers charges for data and crap like that.
code.google.com is to report faults and bugs and by everybody contributing pertinent information maybe Google will look for a fix. Trolling and whinging does nothing but obscure the facts...... please respect this. Just tell them model number, build and describe fault - thanks
Well there is definitely some ranting and twats involved but to my mind that's just part and parcel of being on the internet. Ignore and contribute as you can. Has anyone tried the CM build on the GNEX? Also, has anyone confirmed / denied whether third party wifi tether applications resolve the issue (requires root)?
Actually even more importantly, has anyone isolated where the breakage is actually occurring? I'm assuming it's something in the drivers / networking layer that is screwing up the routing between incoming data and the wifi layer...
I will probably downgrade if nothing else works.
So I got frustrated and rooted / installed clockwork recovery.
Moved to CM 10 and still have the same issue. I'm thinking it's actually a carrier issue for me at this point.
My carrier term expires in January and I'll probably go to a different carrier then.
Will follow up with more information as I have it, I may roll back to an older version of CM to confirm the problem is still occurring.

Definitely not carrier for me, proved by numerous attempts and firmware this weekend. Gnex running 4.1.1 everything works perfectly. Let phone do ota to 4.1.2, broke WiFi tethering and Bluetooth to vehicle completely. Reinstalled 4.1.1 thro Odin and re-partitioned at same time so completely clean install, WiFi tethering and Bluetooth worked perfectly. Continued on complete wipe track by then installing 4.1.2 thro Odin with re-partition (thus removing possibility that incremental upgrade to 4.1.2 was to blame) still no WiFi tethering or Bluetooth.
Did same for 4.2 using Odin still didn't work. Returned to 4.1.1 using Odin, everything worked.
Even made my own Odin package using radio from 4.1.1 (even tho supposedly same as 4.1.2) system and other files from 4.2 - same result, nothing worked.
To eliminate doubt used same sim card in two HTC phones running 4.0.4, both showed correct working and tethering and Bluetooth. Conclusion, not carrier/ supplier related, but surely random hardware/ firmware incompatibility on some examples of Gnex for unfortunate souls such as us
Tried two WiFi tethering apps with exact same result... shows tether as working, greyed out WiFi icon on tab and no go on laptop or desktop....I have spent hours on this to no avail
Have you tried any network diagnostics while not tethered?
I may be getting carrier and 4.1.2 issues. I was running some ping tests while not tethered yesterday. Full 5 bars of 'H+' running CM10 and I was getting horrible signal. More than 50% dropped packets and long ping times.
I'll roll back to an older CM sometime soon and see if there's a difference over the next couple of days.
Thank you,

I'm Noob, I got problem same error on 4.2 and 4.2.1, this issue over half a month.
I have google some website, found have several people like us have this issue and still no idea to fix it...
Mostly couldn't connect to laptop or Mac Book. For me is PlayStation Vita (firmware 2.0 Wifi only)
My PS Vita could deal with my galaxy Nexus on 4.1.2 , but 4.2 is could reach Internet correctly.
I have tried several Wi-Fi Device to connect my Galaxy Nexus,
My PC , My PS3, My PSP, My Uncle Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 (Samsung image) are working fine.
Only my PS Vita couldn't...
But base on others, have same issue on other device, so I did think this issue may cause by 4.2.
Base on this issue, I have try "wifi-tether" , whatever this download on Google play! or "3.3 pre-2" on their website.
I have it running on Factory 4.2 , 4.2.1 Rooted + Super user, this couldn't work correctly.
Running on KALO 2.0 ROM, this have error on "Clamping MMS"....
No Luck for me.
My GNexus is only one device at the moment, which could let my PS Vita online... I have some PS Vita game need running online.
This force me stay on 4.1.2 and try disable System update notification next minute, for several weeks or month until the solution come...
Or... Anyone could build a patch which could let 4.2 using 4.1.2 Wi-Fi tethering engine?
I haven't been able to get my wifi tether working. I've searched for hours but most of the post aren't very recent. I've tried adjusting the settings to many different combinations as mentioned in three other posts. I'm on baseband MC2, JB 4.1.2 and have tried two roms...Swampmonster 2.2/2.3 and Macks Allstar 5.0, as well as using both my PC and laptop to connect. I've used the TrevE mods that come with both roms as well as a couple of apps from the play store.
The same thing happens with every attempt, I connect to the AP but don't get any connection to the internet...DNS server is not responding.
I've recently changed from big red over to sprint and have had my N2 for about a week now. Is this a Sprint thing or is it just my unfamiliarity with my Note 2?
Any help would be much appreciated. Dexter's on tonight.....
Also tried WolfRom and USB tethering, still no connectivity

It's been working for me, basically. I'm on a stock deoxided MC2 ROM with Perseus kernal. I get an error but I don't know what it is, since the log gives another error about no file existing. The error I had before trying to reinstall WiFi and BusyBox was a routing fix failed error.
I used this at work for at least six hours to connect a tablet and laptop. I figure I'm using around 2GB to 6GB each night.
Unfortunately, you're going to have to keep experimenting. I suggest trying with just the defaults settings. See what happens. If not, try changing Driver reloads or none. Unfortunately, it's just a lot of trial and error.

Thanks. I don't give up easily...I'll get it working if possible. I'm just wondering if Sprint is blocking the tether because I connect right away with no errors but the "DNS Server is not responding".
I see you're from the bay area. I grew up in SF but haven't been back in a long time. I miss the beach...

Sprint should be blocking you unless there is something off on your phone. My issue, I think, has to deal with the BusyBox Linux binary library that got loaded. I'm assuming maybe a phone wipe and reflash may fix it.
Yea, I'm near the wine valley, actually. Although, I prefer to be back in San Diego.
I installed Goodness Noteworthy v1.0.8 ROM and get good wifi tethering of 3G. I haven't tested 4G as I don't get it yet.
I'm just running stock rooted MC2 with updated CSC data (Garwyn's) and the separate TrevE version of the Wifi Tether APK works like a charm. My kids just used it on 3G and LTE all the way down I-95 in Florida. Sometimes it would boot them all off when switching from LTE to 3G, but they'd reconnect without issue.
Not sure if that helps you, other than I'm using the very latest MC2 OTA and maybe you're still using a ROM based on the leak? I'm not a dev, so if I'm talking out of my posterior just disregard!
Got it working
I'm still not sure why I had problems when nobody else did on the respective threads for the roms I mentioned above.
I did get it going though...For the touchwiz roms I had to run ISWAT tether unlocker while my tether was active (It's on the Play Store).
Right now I'm running LiquidSmooth's AOSP rom and the native tether works great. I've been bouncing back and forth between nandroid
backups; I like TW most of the time but when I want to tether or am looking for speed/responsiveness I switch over to AOSP.
Just to make sure, have you tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40234725
I flashed it on deodexed stock MC2 and it works great, even with tablets and an iPod Touch.
I got it working with Treve mod
WifiTether_TrevE_Mod_11_20_2012_insmodv3.apk
Had to change one settings, or else it wouldn't appear on PC
Change Device-Profile to Generic ICS/JB wlan0

I've got it working on deoxidized rooted stock rom. I'm using the latest beta from July 20, 2013 (TrevE Mod Wifi Tether. The only setting I needed to change was to Driver Reload 2.
wifi-tethering
Now, I'm also using the Wifi -Tethering . its still working now.
you can find info from rootnote2.com
Is the problem of wifi tether under AOSP rooms on this device totally insoluble?
I've never found an answer to it, only directions to fixing it under TouchWiz or vague changelog entries about having 'fixed wifi tether' on Carbon and such, which did no such thing.
Standard wifi tether app 3.3b2 fails to start an access point. TrevE mod claims to start fine in the app's log, but no access point shows up on a scan. The mobile hotspot function in system settings also starts up, and even let's devices connect, but there's no data transfer.
I understand that there's something bad going on with Samsung's release of wifi drivers, so I'm just hoping that someone somewhere has looked into this.
The wifi works fine for a while and then just dies. The wifi icon is still in the statusbar but no matter what app I open that uses the internet connection, nothing will ever load and Whatsapp messages will not be sent. When I disable wifi and re-enable it, there's a ! next to the wifi signal bar stating there's no internet connection and of course, none of my internet dependant apps work still. I have to reboot my phone (shut it down and turn it back on; apparently they never thought of adding a restart option) to get my wifi to work properly again. This happened a few days ago as well and I really hope I don't have to reboot my phone every couple of days to get my wifi working. So any suggestions? (No suggestions that include flashing a custom ROM on it or rooting it!!) A factory reset won't help because I bought the phone with Android 6.0.1 already pre-installed. I have the security patch of july 2016 installed.
P.S. My 4g internet works fine.
How about giving rebooting the router a try.

I have a similar error.
That my Nexus partially can not access the Internet via wireless, to which it constantly changes between the wireless and mobile data.
Does this have to do with the "intelligent network change" setting, if so how can you turn off the setting, in marshmallow is this setting not available.
The trouble also occurs with other routers.

I did that the first time it happened since my router tends to freeze once in a while, even with the weekly schueduled reboot. But the thing is, my iPad still had internet while my Nexus didn't so it was definitely on the phone's end. I did a quick Google search and a plethora of other cases popped up so I knew I wasn't the only one. Apparently those wifi issues have been around ever since the update to 6.0.1 and the fact that Google did absolutely NOTHING to fix it those 9 months is just ridiculous!
Hi!
You've got the option to try the Android 7 (Nougat) Developer (now released: Preview 5) version.
Works fine and stable for me, and there is a slight chance that it will help with your problem.
Just join the: android.com/beta
And you can always roll back to your current Android version.
