I never tried, I don't think it's possible. I'm using CM10 now and Rommanager says it doesn't have another recovery for me other than the one that came with the CM kernel.
If you want to install a custom recovery and keep you bootloader locked, I'd use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756346
If you already unlocked your bootloader, just flash a custom kernel like Advanced ICS kernel, that already has CWM.

Flashing Kernels?

Is there any way to install a different Kernel directly from the CWM, or something?
So far, no?

You can flash a new kernel using Fastboot or FlashTool. That's simple enough for me.
If your on a unlocked bootloader u can locked bootloaders will either brick your phone or send u too a bootloop

As far as I know, flashtool is the only way. Just fastboot and flash the kernel from that.
You can flash it thru ADB, by command "fastboot flash boot nameofimage.img", this isnt possible 2install it thru CWM, since CWM can install something to system partition but kernel isnt available from root partition.

Yes, but I just need an alternative to flash new kernels on the go, whenever I am not at my computer.
So I guess there isn't any way of doing so. Thanks for the help!

That has nothing to do with ADB. It's done with fastboot
You will never be able to flash a kernel directly from CWM. This is because the recovery (CWM) is inside the kernel. Other devices (my Transformer Prime and Sensation) can.

Can't ROOT xperia SL

Can somebody help me with this problem?
I'm using xperia SL build number .45. Already root + cmw + unlock bootloader, then i'm install custom rom such as XTX experience 7 and KA20_Xperia_SSpeed_Full. after i install it and try to use titanium backup it said i'm not root. then i root it using binary but it can't root. then i'm also can't get in to recovery or cmw. please help me
If you have an unlocked bootloader, just install another stock based kernel. These are prerooted and have recovery integrated into the kernel.

Is it right steps for xperia s

Please tell me if im wrong
1.I have .55 firmware rooted & cwm installed
2.Then I will unlock my bootloader
3.Then I will flash custom kernel like Nova kernel through fastboot(is it prerooted or else I have to flash sys.img)
4.Then I have to format data, cache, system via recovery in phone
5.Then I have to flash P.A.C rom using recovery
Are the steps right or im missing something?

Unlock bootloader,
Wipe everything
Flash pac rom (it has it's own kernel in the rom)
Flash gapps
Fix permissions
Reboot

Everything is included in the pac rom so you can just flash once unlocked. As far as I'm aware your cwm should remain

If your boot loader is unlocked you don't need X-Parts, flash a kernel with CMW, flash a ROM, done. Read the stickys.
The thing is my arc freezes when i try to get in cwm.

[Q]CWM for xperia ion locked bootloader

Hey guys can anyone tell me how to install cwm in my xperia ion.i recently rooted my jb with locked bootloader.
Sent from my LT28h using xda premium
Doomlord is working on that to make one for us. Right now there is no way for those who has Locked Bootloader to get CWM (including me). So we just can wait. If u want something to install, maybe u can just copy it straight away to system and change the permission.

In my case, when i installed CWM @ locked bootloader .55 FW, the CWM didn't work properly. So I suggest you to unlock bootloader & flash doomkernel which is pre loaded with CWM and TWRP.

Pushing the files to the system and changing the permissions is hectic than flashing through recovery. If any error happens it can result in unexpected accidents.
You can unlock the boot loader (u will lose bravia engine) and flash a custom kernel using flash tool.
In the development section you can find some cool kernels with build-in recovery.
If You don't want to unlock , then wait for someone to make a recovery for phones with locked boot loaders.
