[Q] Galaxy Note II Bluetooth MAP profile support? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've seen some specs that say it supports bluetooth MAP profile, and some specs that omit it. The Samsung spec sheet doesn't seem to list it (at least not the one I've found). Before I buy this phone, I want to make sure the text messaging will work with my Ford Sync system which requires MAP profile to convey the text messages.

I'll test it tomorrow and let your know. I know it didn't work on the GSIII.

Sounds good. Also, let me know what Sync hardware system & S/W version you have. From the research I've been doing, it makes a big difference. FYI - there are a lot of people who have gotten their Galaxy SIII bluetooth MAP profile working with Sync. Try the method posted by "arlinto" on 10/22 about half way down the thread.

MAP works
MAP works beautifully in my '11 Ford Edge (MFT/SYNC) with the NOTE II

I'll have to check that out. I couldn't get the text message to work with SYNC and my Note II. I have a 2011 Ford Fusion. Not sure how to find hardware/software version in the SYNC. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
*EDIT* OK, so I read the androidcentral link you sent me and I have the basic Ford SYNC. I'm going to try what they suggested and see if I can get it work that way. I'll post findings tomorrow.

I'm very interested to see if this method works. I think it is for the Sony w/ Navigation version of the hardware. At least my interface matches the steps.

I spent a good 10 mins dicking around with my SYNC and Note II. I don't have a MAP profile setting so I couldn't do it that way, nor could I find any other way. So, I'm guessing if you just have the basic SYNC system it won't work. Again that is just a guess, I haven't done much research on this whole thing however. Anyway, hope this helped some and if not sorry. I hope someone can shed more light on this for you.

Thanks for trying. My buddy works at Sprint so I might just have him bring me a Note 2 to test out before I go and buy it.

Good idea. Hope it works out for you.

Bluetooth MAP. app that helps
Hello everybody,
For Bluetooth MAP you can check this app from VAiPho "Bluetooth Launcher" that also has interesting functionalities for Samsung users,
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vaipho.bluetooth.launcher
Cheers!

Car home

Hello everyone!
Maybe a dumb question, but how do you activate the car home?
A lot of reviews mentionned it, but I can't find it on my phone...
Thanks.
Not a dumb question at all..
I can't help you I'm afraid.
In addition to what you are seeking, I'm about to start a search looking for the morning Alarm Clock screen with Home Apps as well.
Use car dock once it comes it, or has it?
Using it will activate car home.

Negative... this screen operates independently of the car dock.
Think of it this way ~ how on earth can a piece of hardware control what you see on your screen if the items are not there in the first place.
What about the Morning screen with it's large digital clock and several morning applications all in landscape mode and the TV Remote control?
You can't say until we get the hardware we can't see those screens and apps as well!

Car Mode
In its in-car mount, GALAXY S turns into my own personal assistant—instantly providing me with weather, Google maps, Google voice search, and navigation services. Getting directions is as easy as simply speaking my request. With Google Maps Navigation, GALAXY S not only fetches the directions, but lets me choose 3 ways to view them—in real- time with Real Street View, Traffic View, or Satellite View.
Desk Mount
GALAXY S knows how to bring my day to a relaxing end. When set on its side in the cradle or docking station, GALAXY S switches to a new interface, selecting four vital functions needed to help transition into a lasting, satisfying state of rest—table clock, audio station, digital photo frame and calendar.

True true, but according to the way that Samsung phrases it, it appears to be the way I've stated it. Correct or no?
So far everything that I've said is speculations BASING on official sources.
Yes it's not 100% correct, but at least pretty high accuracy.

I understand completely what you are saying here but it was Samsung themselves who told me the apps are already installed.
It just seems so weird you need a mount of some sort to display them.
Taking this further, what about the Remote TV Controller, how the heck can we put this same logic into practice?
hi
First post but hopefully not the last
I just got my galaxy s yesterday
the remote app is actually in the samsung app store BUT its not availeble for the Galaxy s (atleast not yet) its for the samsung 8500 and 8500L. the samsung apps store lets you DL the apps but not install them.. the apps extension is .APP contra .APK for android

It just feels like everything on this phone is about waiting for Samsung, I suspect all these features will eventually appear, its just about having the patience to wait for them.
Still waiting for the Home Dock, the Car Dock, the TV control, for Kies to recognize the 9000 on the app store, for spare batteries, for firmware updates... and of course Froyo.

I have patience, no doubt about that. I need it by the bucket load in my profession.
What annoys me though is when a department fail to provide material facts, especially when these facts have been mentioned that long they now appear as works not of fact but fiction.
Yes, they will come but in the meantime it remains shoddy there is nothing available of material in both the items and information.
Agreed, its pretty poor that they didn't at least add the token '* coming Sept 2010' instead of faking up the applications and presenting them as ready and available now.

Logic?
The logic that we gotta employ is simply regard Samsung's strategy as NOT using any logic at all.
Like we discussed last time, 2011+ tv only.
I guess the only way for us to find out is to email Samsung. Someone should compile a list of "urgency" questions and we'll all send it to Samsung Mobile department.
-------------------------------------------------------------
But Beardds, at least they have released the phone first right?
I mean com'on, it's better than waitin for both the phone PLLUSSSS the support.
And to reply to your "firmware support" concern, I've seen new firmware updates nearly every other day, I might be wrong but you should check out Samsung Firmware "official' site

This is strange, confusing and disappointing.
Why has Samsung released these apps which we have been asking them time after time but with no response and yet here you find them listed.
The European SIM free Galaxy S does not list any of these apps on either the Samsung or general Market.
Could you upload the .apk files so that we can check to see if they will install and load please?
So Samsung support wasn't that crazy when they said it could be on the market already, just not for the i9000
Funny how the US versions seems to get preferential treatment, in both accessories and software. Still no dock or cases to be found on the EU sites

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard

I have been reading some of the reviews on amazon about some of these mini keyboards, and I'm still adjusting to the onscreen keyboard as I came from the D2 then the TP2 before that, so I would like to know what ones are compatible with android? Does anyone have one? Most people in the reviews say that they can't get them to work with android, so I don't want to waste 20-30-40 bucks just to find out its not compatible with our devices. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Curious about this too, if don't remember seeing anything about bluetooth keyboards working without some hacking.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I guess you and I must be the only ones who care about this.
No...I very much care about this, too. I just tried to pair my Thunderbolt with my Apple wireless keyboard and it did pair. Now, however, it says "paired and not connected" but when I click on the keyboard name it does not do anything. When I press and hold the keyboard name, my only option is to unpair. Not sure how to proceed...
Reading a lot of the reviews on amazon it seems to be a running theme that not all of the BT keyboards are compatible with android. Now, whether that is true or not, I don't know. I was hoping to find someone who has one and can provide some insight. Supposedly, according to the reviews, there are two different protocols for BT and only one(spp, if that makes sense?) works with android. That's the best info I have gathered, but this is strictly based off of reviewers, so I don't actually know anything. So I thought I would bring my question/problem to the smartest community on earth.
I will play around again with my Apple keyboard tonight and see if I can figure this out for you. And for me!
I'm interested as well. Like you, I haven't been able to find any hard info either, and don't want to waste money...
hello, I've been interested in this for a while now…*
here's the BT keyboard i'm considering:
Spider E-BTKB-B001 Black Bluetooth Wireless Ultra Slim Keyboard - seen on newegg ~ $40
although today I tried this app:
market.android.com - Remote Web Desktop
its wifi keyboard feature gets your foot in the door with real keyboard text entry…*haven't tested this for my use case - notes in audible bookmarks - but i look forward to the future development of this Remote Web Desktop application
oops, i can't include links yet
So, if I understood your post correctly, you have already received this and it does work correctly? Can you post some pics to show how big it is compared to the phone? Thanks for the post.

Intrigued, I would really like to know also. Is that the one for the Xoom?
I've got one of those no-name (actually a company called magic-pro) bluetooth keyboards, and I've tried every app/driver out there that I've been able to find to get the danged thing to work. So far the most useful thing on it is the laserpointer, it's a great cat toy. The bluetooth dongle does work pain-free with a Windows 7 machine, but that's not why I got the thing. Going to keep on trying new revisions, hopefully I'll hit something eventually that doesn't require rooting.

Finding Daily XXXXXX Quest

Sorry if I offensive someone... But on my 'old' HD2 with Android I was able to use and install "Daily Breast Quest" I used Android for a short time on my HD2. I flashed it with something else (wp7).
Now I have waited several weeks on the delivery of the Samsung Galaxy S2. Finally I have it, one of the apps I was waiting for was this one. Somehow it is'n available on the Markter. I have Content Filtering set to "Show all apps" it switches back automatically to "High maturity"
Anyhow, still no luck with finding the APP. Is their someone who has the APK file ? Has it something to do with the 2.3. version on the Samsung Galaxy S2.
The website http://www.playboy.nl/daily-breast-quest mentions a QR code :

[Q] OCR input?

Hi all.
I recall reading online prior to the phone's launch that the Note II will feature OCR as a form of text input. Has anyone else come accross this feature yet?
Source:
"Finally, there's the camera - yes, the camera. You can snap a photo of text and the Galaxy Note II will run OCR on it and enter it automatically. The great thing about this is that you don't need an Internet connection for this either. You can fit an entire A4 page and the Note II will transcribe it in a matter of seconds. You'll need to proof-read the text though."
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_ii_n7100-review-806p4.php
Thank to one and all...
Hope its in the update coming very soon... cause none of those features are on the note2 (mine is from UK)
No. I don't think that feature made it into the update, unless it's in some non-obvious place. Shame.

Yes - you can switch to pen input on the keyboard. You can set the keyboard to automatically switch to pen mode when the pen is taken out. It works remarkably well.
Edit: OCR is not pen - doh!

[Q] Is Samsung done developing S-Note?

The ONLY thing that makes me even think about buying a wildly overpriced Windows 8 tablet is the ability to use OneNote. The sad part is that S-Note is just so damned close to being a OneNote killer app but it seems like Samsung got 80% of the way there and JUST QUIT.
Let's start with the unreadable .snb standard. As far as I can tell, even .snb readers for Windows can't read it. Unless you export your S-Notes as .pdf''s you are pretty much screwed being able to view them on your Desktop. So why would Samsung choose such an obscure standard with zero compatibility? Next can we talk about Templates? How hard would it be for Samsung to include a Template Editor so the grown-ups can create and save their own Templates instead of being forced to use the few Samsung thinks we all want? How about being able to create and save typing styles? How about being able to restart voice recording on a previously created S-Note? How about being able to embed a recording within a specific spot in your S-Note? If I can embed a video why can't I embed a recording? One of the best things about OneNote is being able to search on written text. Samsung, any ideas on that? How about being able to place a typing cursor just by clicking the screen where I want it? How about automatically typing around pictures instead of over them? How about being able too cut and move blocks of text?
So much about S-Notes just doesn't seen done to me, but as far as I can tell, those crazy Koreans at Samsung think it's perfect as is.
Please Samsung, I don't want to buy a Windows 8 tablet but you are forcing my hand.
** I am hoping that the new Awesome Note app coming with the Note 8.0 will solve some of these issues assuming we'll be able port it to our Note 2.

Awesome idea! Please give me the personal email of the Head of S-Note Development at Samsung and I'll get right on that. While you are at it, link me to the Samsung Support Forums on their website - oh that's right, Samsung doesn't have Support Forums.
