Sorry for the total noob question here, but how long do you think it will take for Cynogen 10 to be release for this phone? This is my first I have bought a phone at launch.
My best guess, month or two

Looks like they are supporting the International version. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...android412-jellybean-samsung-galaxy-note2.htm

So by supporting the International version does that mean that US versions such as AT&T will not work with the same version of Cyanogen?

The only way CM will come to this device is if someone who knows how to setup a device tree does it. They don't just magically appear guys. I'm working on the tree for the t0lteatt at the moment, but its an on going process. I've built, modded, compiled, you name it, done it, however never setup a device tree from scratch.

On XDA they do, are you sure man? No but seriously I hope it isn't that difficult since all Note 2's are the same (mostly). Wish I know more about android.
Patiently waiting, for now

*****Moderators: please move this over to a different Galaxy Nexus ROM dev area should it apply, but please leave a link to it under this Sub-forum.
I have created what is probably the first custom Android ROM that includes the files for Ubuntu internally, alongside the existing Android architecture. While this is not really a polished release, it has the ability to crash the phone, and requires some tweaking by devs and downloaders. However, for Galaxy Nexus owners (toro for now, soon to be other GNex devices also) this ROM (Rev 2) should boot up after removing one internal zip file. Go ahead to https://sites.google...site/andrevroot for the link about the project, and/or the bottom of this post for
Some things to note:
Comment back what you think about this project, and ROM.
Please keep all comments polite and on topic.
Donate, via bitcoin if you like, as it helps support us, and help create better, more advanced ROMs.
Please look through the whole site
Don't try this ROM if you are new to custom ROMs, try Cyanogenmod ROMs first so you know what you are doing.
I take no responsibility for screwing up your device in any way.
This version is heavily based upon CM10, to the point where it should even say the General CM10 stuff under Settings>About Device. Please do not beat me up over this, it is just because I wanted to get a simple pre-release out there.
This is licensed, please read the License agreement at the footer of my site, you are bound to its terms. Its Creative Commons, but still used.
Thank You for your time, have a nice day.
Above all, do not try to update the CM firmware, as you will lose the ubuntu files contained within!!!!!!

Holy cow, dude this was awesome. I mean... me and this thing clicked instantly. As soon as it booted within 5-10 seconds I got through the lockscreen and then just started dozing through all the apps and swiping. It is a bit slow, not in particular though, probably as slow as Miui. This is just a dev preview, imagine the real thing and I didn't lose to much battery life within the span of 20 minutes. I wanted to keep this on my phone just to test but I couldn't. I'm just waiting for the real thing :victory:

Yeah the others are probably right. Tmobile probably has decided that the 4.1.2 update isnt improtant enough to push through and since 4.2 with touchwiz will come out officially with the s4 they will just push that one instead of pushing both within a month or 2 apart. If you're asking in wonder of getting an official multi Window, then I'm guessing 4.2 will have it.

yeah it should somewhere around 2 months but I honestly think there will be a port from the s4 to the s3 so we'll get unofficially first from these developers. We already have some the the apps, sounds and such not.

If we end up with a Snapdragon 600 chip, it will make porting from S4 to S3 a hell of a lot easier... Swap out Qualcomm drivers for the S3 in place of the S4 ones and build the kernel source from the S4... Most of the main hardware is going to be similar. Camera and other external modules might be more difficult but as long as we get full S4 source from Samsung, we will be able to plug a good bit of S3 code and precompiled code in there.
I imagine we will see some interesting blends happen with HTC One and S4 source code.
Basically, even if we don't get an official 4.2 or 5 release, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to port due to similar hardware. Qualcomm makes it really easy with their proprietary binary code to build a kernel for another Snapdragon device than the source kernel/device. I wouldn't worry about it.
Im working on porting CyanogenMod to the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
I have the CM source code and I have been experimenting with all sorts of files and reading build and porting guides BUT to no avail.
Without the proper blobs, I have found this to be an impossible task.
Looking for a few people who are interested in giving me a hand doing this without the blobs.
^I had to clarify this just so everyone was on the same page.^

This new corporate sellout version of CyanogenMod sucks big time, throw all their community spirit out the window for the chance to profit off open source software. For example they just started rolling out 4.3 for the note 2 so my guess would be about a year lol. And as for a AOSP KitKat...yet again no one knows btw never ask for ETA's

I downloaded this from Sammy a few weeks back, and I was struck by how little is there. Yes, the full kernel sources are there - though of course a lot of stuff is still hidden in binary firmware blobs (presumably the TIMA/KNOX interface falls in this category). What struck me though was how little *platform* stuff is there. Is anyone else surprised by this? I would've thought they built more of their work on open-source foundations, but maybe not.

Well you have to remember, 4.3 Samsung is 4.3 samsung. If you ever looked inside the apks, there is a ton of stuff not used. Reason that's so, it's more generic across devices.
The only real changes are drivers/libs. A lot of those get pulled from the device when building anyway.
As far as I've ever seen, an individual cannot build a lib. You cannot reverse engineer them. Nothing.
If the specific libs needed to make things work are not available, then they just won't work yet. It's that plain an simple. I've helped out a lot in source building threads.
I wish it was easier, but sadly it's not.

Yeah, I've done a lot of work administering standard linux machines and it's a completely different world. They may be using an open-source core OS, but it's clear that none of the vendors treat their development itself as a process that contributes to free software.
By libs, do you mean the kernel modules and/or binary firmware blobs that are needed to support different bits of hardware? Or actual system libraries? I guess in this case, both are frequently closed. I heard a couple months back that the Android lead engineer at Google actually stepped down over the issue of OEM-supplied firmware blobs - specifically how un-transparent the process is, and how it's hard to even get access to the binaries for distribution, let alone the source D:
I have 4.4.2 source. Github. Linux building environment. Now I'm making a stock ROM to upload to XDA. Anyone with time to explain how to do so. All info accepted (-_-).

Galaxy Gear only works, so far as I know, with unrooted stock (yuck) touchwiz ROMs on select devices of Samsung's arbitrary choice. You're better served both now and later with not spending the $200+USD on Samsung locked hardware.
I have seen users with smoothest claim gear works. Smoothest is a n3 stockish rooted ROM.

It is a better longer term option for everyone...Especially given how Samsung has chosen to ignore their formerly flagship phone wrt updates. Further the much waited 4.4 update is probably the last if I had a=to bet.
Galaxy Gear only works, so far as I know, with unrooted stock (yuck) touchwiz ROMs on select devices of Samsung's arbitrary choice. You're better served both now and later with not spending the $200+USD on Samsung locked hardware.

I don't mind running stock touchwiz. I actually recently unrooted and returned to stock 4.3 when I was planning on trying to sell my baby and I don't mind it one bit. I have never been a fan of aosp so staying stock isn't the end of the world for me

I didn't mind TW but I really got tired of waiting for Sammy to release a 4.4 update for us, and then having to wait on Sprint again... It's nice to be able to use KitKat on the Note 2
