hi all !
i just flashed cm 10.1 official and it is great so far except for the superuser issue
so i tried to flash a franco kernel as i always do , franco r325 and all my phone went dead force crashing everywhere , without panicking i formatted my phone and i downloaded the r345 kernel but it seems to be an img file something cwm can't flash so i decided to try trinity kernel but i am not sure which is made for 4.2 so i am not taking the risk of flashing a random one then it struck me ...why do i even need to flash kernels anyway? isn't stock kenel the same? so can someone enlightnen me?
Custom kernels allows you to overclock and undervolt the CPU and GPU.
Some custom kernels also add extra features that a stock kernel does not have; fast charge mod, kernel sound mod etc.
kernels control pretty much every aspect of your device. they connect your cpu to your os and hardware. custom kernels add functuality that isnt included with the stock kernel, as well as performance and battery enhancements. google the the word kernel or linux kernel for more info.
now about your issue.. cm made some modifications that made many custom kernels non bootable on cm. franco kernel in the img format isnt flashable via recovery but is flashable via fastboot or the franco kernel app. trinity kernels latest 4.2.1 kernel is alpha10, but the 4.1.2 kernels also run on 4.2.1.
Hi all,
The Fix can be found in this superb thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118921
I'm trying to use SnowOokami's method.
I flashed back to Extended stock Sony kernel 17 and it's charging again but not booting past the sony kernel logo. Recovery changed from TWPR to CWM. Alas, I don't have a recent backup!
Could someone help me with finding the right kernel for the PAC rom version 21.2? It should FXP kernel but their website doesn't show Nozomi kernels. Maybe PAC Rom or CM Rom? No clue.. I can't find the 21.1 rom thread anymore so I'm looking for the right version. I use TWPR.
Does the latest PAC rom fix this issue or does it occur with any kernel?
-Edit: -Mark for deletion: I flashed another ROM
I have tried n3o kernel and xm kernel for aosp but to no avail. The phone stops on boot screen. Is there any kernel that will work or maybe I'm not doing it right? I always fast boot flash boot boot.IMG and then flash modules from recovery. Thanks.
Are you using Aosp based? There is a repacked Xm kernel in the Miui multi language, that I believe has S2W. I used it about a month ago.
Hi there!!
I'm about to unlock my phone bootloader, and i wanna know some things about kernels:
Can i "downgrade" the kernel. For example from a KitKat kernel to Stock (Jelly Bean 4.1) Kernel?
Can i use a KitKat Kernel in a Jelly Bean Rom?
If Kernel have CWM recovery, it still working even if ROM stop working?
I know that in Linux you can update to the lastest kernel in same distro and don't matters, but Android is "special"...
Now i've CWM for locked bootloader and it is installed in ROM instead in Kernel, then if ROM is damaged CWM can stop working. I think if is included in Kernel then don't matters what happen in ROM, but I want to be sure.
Thanks!!
I'm not really sure about question 1 & 2.
Answer for question 3:
Yes, the recovery should work even the rom is messed up.
Thats when bootloop happen .

1- Each rom has a specific kernel so if you want to install a kitkat kernel you can't install a JB rom so if you want to downgrade you can only downgrade the version of the kernel !!!
2-As I mentioned above you can't
3-Yes because the kernel is not damaged in your case so CWM will be working with no issues !!!
Thanks!!!, for now i'm still using a JB kernel with JB Rom. Waiting for a full working port of xLoud

If You are going to unlock Your bootloader in future, do remember to backup Your TA partition.
MIUI 11.0.3, After installing custom kernel, camera is dead. Need stock kernel because patch did not work and no WiFi to download full recovery rom for a week ??
U can try custom kernel
