[Q]modding roms? - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi,
I'm kind of a noob around here.
I was wondering if it was possible to switch .apk 's between roms. What I meen is the following. I like the themes and the gallery of the democrazy-rom. Is it possible to 'take' these apk's from /system/app from the democrazy rom and putt them into system/app of an other rom (e.g. this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899615) and than flash the zip on my gio? or is it better to just flash the rom and manually move the files into system/app with es file explorer. Will it work?
thanks in advance!

why would you?
democracy is also cm7 , just like marcins

having some strange issues on democrazy-rom: sometimes unable to DISable wifi, serious wake-up lag(think it's fixed when using lagfree-governor, but drains battery like hell), sometimes gps is on but no indicator in toolbar and no signal.
Indeed, if democrazy is based on marcin, than it's useless to change .
thanks for the reply.
BTW: I think that wake-up lag is due to S2E, is better to use one of these scripts instead? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
and wich one is best for gio, main goal is to clear up internal memory without loosing smootheness?

Removing sense

Is it possible to completely remove sense UI for a sense Rom to become aosp? I recently used a desensify script on a Rom but sense is still there. I'm guessing rosie is no longer there, I'm using another launcher now. The widgets and lockscreen are gone too. The contacts, messages, camera, and other behind things are still there.

Why not just run a aosp rom if that's what you're trying to achieve anyway?

I've had problems with video chatting on other aosp roms. I figured I'd have a better chance in removing sense on a Rom that video chatting does work on.

You can remove sense. If you do this, you'll have a 'senseless' ROM. You have to put a launcher on it and you'll need to find alternative widgets, etc.
I used to do this. I liked that I could have whatever launcher I wanted but still have the sense camera and dialer.
Also, the ROM flies even faster once you get little miss Rosie out of the picture...
BTW, the only aosp that I've tried with functioning Skype is miui.
But nowadays I stick to Sense ROMs mostly

What did you use to remove miss rosie? I would use miui but I use 4G often, so I need it working.

This is what I tried but not sure if it took it out completely. I want my battery last longer than sense roms at least almost like aosp roms.

First install a third party launcher set it as default then with root explorer go to system\apps and delete rosie that's it
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
After I had installed my launcher of choice, I used a file explorer to clean out the ROM as I saw fit.
I doubt its truly necessary to clean out anything deeper than apk's.
Delete Rosie and the sense Widgets basically.

So nothing deeper than apk's. Why is that? Just curious. Also what I I wanted to use an aosp version of something? Would I just replace the apk's? So this would be considered "senseless" right?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Well I checked via root explorer and I didn't find rosie or the widgets. I guess after running that program I mentioned earlier it removed them. Now I just to delete any lingering ones, if they're any.

Does removing rosie have any farther-reaching effects than just not having the Sense launcher?

Well I believe better battery life but I have yet to test it. I think less memory or RAM is used but don't quote me on that. The more knowledgeable people might answer that. This is what I got with light use and being on WiFi the while time. I'm going to try to moderate use and on 3g to see what I get.

I meant more in the line of if any of the other functions of the phone change. If I remove rosie, for instance, will HTC's dialer still work the same, will I be able to use HTC's People app, etc., or will those things not function without rosie?

[Q] Any tweaks suggestions?

hi,
I downgraded to 2.2.1 and removed google search ,map, social hub, is there anything more i could do to make my gio even smoother? I had tried apps like setcpu, rom toolbox etc. but it feels no difference. I also found there are many roms that some said they run faster than the stock rom, but i cant flash them because i need chinese support. thanks for any suggestion.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using XDA
a custm ROM should do that.. have a search
I agree with andreim3
Try Cyanogen Mod 7, its very fast!
Is all of them support foreign language?

It does. You can change language in Phone Settings.

[Q] Most stable non-stock ROM?

I've used Phiex's CM7.2 for very long and for some reason it started to get very buggy.
I would have to enable and disable airplane mode to be able to send an SMS, some simple things stopped working, performance became a bit sluggish etc etc.
So I decided to give CM9 a try. What a disaster, almost nothing works (for me) and since I use my phone in a very specific way there was no mention of those things not working.
Either way, here's a summary of the things I use my phone for:
Tethering 3g internet via WiFi to my iPad.
Tethering GPS via Bluetooth to my iPad.
Lot's of texting/browsing
Some calling.
Now, my question is obvious. What is the most stable, most reliable non-stock Gio rom out there?
Did anyone try the CM7, the one not from Phiex? Is that one any good?
Many many thanks in advance.
I would say cm7. But if you really want stability, choose a stock based rom.

Decided to give your ROM a try. Seems like a good one.
The only thing is that there is no link in your post to the ICS theme.. Which ICS theme do you recommend for your ROM?
Just see the link got corrupted, here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/?py6sjjy1dwh7d16
I recommend to use holo launcher or apex launcher for the pure ics look.

You can use a2sd on any GB rom with custom kernel.
But you also need to flash the a2sd package. See the full tutorial

is not 2.3.6 Enhanced GB rom? why didn't work?

[Q] GTalk on GB

Guys, since I have my Gio, I never had a normally working GTalk on any of the GB roms. ICS or JB works just fine, but they are still in beta stages and no such stability as GB offers. I am using Gmail and GTalk 24/24 for my work and I need these 2 elements more than anything. My issue is that GTalk alaways keeps disconecting nomatter I'm on wifi or 3g or 2g. It works a few minutes than it disconetcs, than connects back, and so on. This creates me alot of problems as I always dont get messages on time or even cant send mesages always, have to wait until it connects back. I have tried more than 7 different ROMs for our GIO and they all turn this way. Where to lok for to find a stable GTalk for my Ginger Bread roms? I am sure that this problem is common for most of GB users but not everybody pays attention but I really need this app to work stable as my work depends on it. I dont want to use trillian or other apps for GTalk. Please advice what to look for.
Thank you
BTW, where can I find Gtalk app? Is not available in Play store.
from here Talk.apk
gtalk is part of gapps.

Install an AOSP ROM. The bar at the bottom is a crucial part of Sense. You can't simply remove it.

But is there a way to close running apps ?
In android 4.1+ if you hold HOME you can kill every running app you want with a swipe..
That just removes recent apps from the list, im sure it does'nt kill them. Have a look in ur apps and see if theres an app called task manager, if so u can kill all apps there. Most sense roms have it.
EDIT: Just thought of this rom, Alex-V, he has a bliss mod version, so basically theres not that "bar" from the bottom Alex GingerBreadSense-
And theres BlissMod007 .. very good rom
That can't because it is a sense rom . Do you want sense or not ?
