Does anyone else have this horribly annoying issue? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

If I am in an application and my screen turns off, I hit the home button to wake the screen and then it takes me to the desktop instead of the last app I was in? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Would help you you state which app or all apps. The Home Button function is to go to the Home Screen.
To make the Home Button take you to the last app you were in, press and hold. It will give you a recent apps page.
That also has the task manager and Google options.

I don't think that's what he's refering to. If my screen is off(aka in sleep mode), when I press the home button to wake the screen back up, that's all the home button does with that press. It only wakes the screen up and leaves me where the phone was, when it went to sleep. If I press the home button, when the phone is awake, then yes, it does take me to the home screen.
To the OP,
I tried it with Touch Wiz and Nova Launcher, even using the app "nolocK' to lock/prevent locking of the screen. In all instances, when the screen was off and I hit the home button, it woke the screen up, but left me at in the same place where it went to sleep at.

Thanks so much chuck. Thats exactly what I am referring to. I have nova installed but I am having this problem. I wonder if it is some setting I have enabled.

I just installed no lock and messed with a lot of settings in nova. Same problem where if I wake the screen with the home button it takes me to the desktop and not my most recent app. Argg

i have this problem only when i have the on-screen nav bar. if i disable that it works fine. it's somewhat odd.

use the power button instead. works fine. home button does exactly what it is named for. takes you to your home screen.

Cant wait to try your rom t3! The home button never worked like this in the past. I am used to having home wake my screen and just want it the way it was.

Yeah, If the phone has just shut off and you press the home key it takes me back home, not to the app I was in. In this case I have to press the power button. I dont remember it doing this on the gs3. I remember hitting the home key if my phone shut off to turn it back on and it resumed where i left off.

Home Button Question

When my screen turns off and I press the home button to wake the screen, any applications or notification popups I had disappears as the home button is being too "aggressive" and immediately takes me to the home screen.
Did I miss a setting somewhere to prevent this?
Thanks.
It seems the only way to prevent this is by enabling Swipe Lock. I guess this is why it's enabled by default?
I'm having the same problem no matter what I do when the screen times out and I press home it takeme back to my home screen. ..Have you found a solution yet?

No solution yet. And doesn't seem like there is one.

In S-Voice app, bring up settings, make sure option to "Open via the home key" is checked. This will allow the home button to only wake the device when the screen is off. Unfortunately, this also introduces some lag when pressing the home button, as the software is waiting to see if you register a double click.

I hate that lag, that's why I unchecked it and ran into this Home Button problem.
The lag is pretty bad, like 2-3 seconds. Not practical.

[Q][SOLVED] Alternatives to locking the device?

My power button has finally gone to complete crap. The only way I can use it is if I pull the back off and press down at a certain angle. Which is rather annoying and not worth the troubles just to turn my screen off. It's a snap to wake my device because all I have to do is press the Home key and it pops right on. I'd like to avoid apps that put a widget on your home screen, I've already played around with those and it feels wonky to turn my screen off like that. Though if I have to, I'll deal with it. So any alternatives anyone has to offer? Perhaps maybe mapping it to the search key since I never use it?
You can use screen timeout option from settings to lock the device automateclly after 15 seconds
And if 15 seconds is long, there are apps in the store that lock the phone after 5 seconds
Yeah, I have it set to 15 seconds, but it's not quite quick enough since I usually whip it out to text then immediatly put it away. My leg likes to open a bunch of crap up and pocket dial people. I'll look into that five second app though, that sounds nice.
I use screen off and lock from market but I dont use the short cut,I just link swipe up in gestures with ADW Launcher to the app.So just one swipe of the screen switches screen off.
Well I mean if you manage to flash custom roms like CyanogenMod it have the feature "Volume rocker wake" under Display.
And if you don't want to use LockScreen, the app App Locker can lock specific apps using pin numbers.
Some kernel for Galaxy devices have the feature to touch screen to wake, but I don't know if there is one available for this device.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but I think I finally found my resolution. I installed Holo Launcher and it let's you link your Home button to do an action if you're already on your default screen. I installed a Screen Off app and linked it with the Home button. So all I have to do is press Home twice to shut off my screen. Much nicer.

[Q] Wake > Bypass Home Lock Screen > Remain in App

So far i'm loving my new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (i317m). I've modified the setting to bypass the lock screen when i click the Home button.
The issue i'm seeing now is the screen is blanked, i click the home button, i can see the app i was using before the blanking BUT the screen promptly flashes taking me to the Home screen.
Is there any way to have the lock screen removed AND to have the home button NOT take me to the home screen IF when the home button is pressed the screen was blanked? A simple IF conditional.
Thanks for any help.
I'm trying to understand your AND statement "AND to have the home button NOT take me to the home screen IF when the home button is pressed the screen was blanked"
The first statement is easy, just pick no lock in settings but + AND statement?

Thanks so much for the response.
Yes the "AND" part is the tough part and the reason i asked it. I will clarify. The situation is this. I am well aware of the option Lock Screen >> Screen Lock | None. This was a useful option when i discovered it some time back as now when my unit blanks and i go to hit the home button to wake it up, the unit wakes and take me automatically to the Home screen bypassing the annoying Lock Screen. Terrific.
For those of us who have this option set will quickly notice an issue. If, for instance, one had Google Talk app running before the screen blanked, and later returned to wake up the unit by clicking the Home button (expecting to continue within GTalk), he will briefly see the GTalk app and then it will disappear and will now see the Home screen. One must now navigate back to the app.
I would like the Home button, if pressed to wake up the unit, to remain in the current application. This would be similar to the Power Button functionality. I'm hoping there is a "fix" for this nuisance.
UPDATE: It seems Samsung recognized this nuisance / bug and has corrected it within 4.1.2 but sadly it wont be available thru my Carrier for at least another 6 months (Canada is a bit slow with updates).
** I still would appreciate any work around in the meantime
UPDATE:
I neglected to mention i had the settings of S-Voice modified disabling opening S-Voice if the double click of the Home button occurred. I did this to speed up any Home button clicks.
I just discovered if i have this settings enabled it appears to prevent the click of the Home button to wake from exiting the existing app. The prob now is my Home button takes 1 sec (as opposed to 0.4 secs) to snap back to home when pressed. Sheesh.
Ugly but it is a start.

Home button lag with disabled lockscreen

So heres my problem in a nutshell:
When I press the home button, my phone unlocks (I have no lockscreen), however it takes me to the home screen. Whereas if I hit the power button, the screen turns on where I left off. This is the expected behavior.
If I go into S-Voice, and select "Open via the home key", the home key unlocks the phone correctly, but I have to deal with the home button lag issue.
So, how do I get the best of both worlds? No lockscreen, no home button lag, and no issue with using the home button to wake the phone.
I could do without S-Voice all together so if thats an option Im OK with it.

I wasn't happy with the speed of the home button, I took off the double tap for svoice and I'm much happier not sure if that helps you

Soft button screen off

I'm on android 4.3 and noticed that it no longer has a soft screen off button on my notification pull down menu. I loved this feature on my previous ROM since it saves me from using the hard home or power buttons.
I looked through google play store but was unable to find an app. I don't need it to lock but to just turn off the screen.
Any suggestions please?

How did you turn the screen back on ???
You could use something like power toggles, add the toggles that locks screen, then go to lock screen and set it to none.
That worked for me. I just tried it. Not sure if that's really what you are looking for.....
That turns off the screen, and pressing home button or power button turns screen back on.
Did you look at "Screen Off and Lock" in PlayStore? I think it had ability to add screen off in dropdown notification.
