Data Reception Problem

For the past week or so, I've been having issues where I will drop to 1X in places where I would usually get a steady 3G signal. I'll have two bars (-85 dB), and show 3G, but when I actually go to use the data connection it drops to 0 bars and switches over to 1X. If I stop accessing data for a brief period it will return to normal.
Does anyone have any ideas? I had been using the 11.19 radio, but flashed back to 9.01 and saw no improvement. I've done the "update roaming capabilities" a few times, and every time after I've flashed a radio. I'm running CM7.0.3. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I was having data issues like yours in cm7.0.3. I don't think your alone in this situation. Other people have had trouble with this as well. I don't think its a radio problem because I swapped radios with the same results each time. I would roll back to an earlier cm release and wait for the next update. That's what I'm doing.

Well, I just flashed OMFGB and I'm experiencing the same problem. Is it a known issue in OMFGB 1.2 as well?
EDIT: I just flashed back to CM 7.0.2.1 and I have the same issue. I guess it's either my phone or Verizon.

i started having this issue recently on miui 4.29 and it persisted onto 5.6. started happening after updating radio to 4.08 but i haven't been bothered enough to try changing back to an older radio.

I think it may just be Verizon. I have the same issue from time to time on SR 4.0 rom, with the stock radio.

Yeah I'm pretty sure its an issue with Verizon, roms really shouldn't effect your service and they never have with me.

It's been happening with stock, Redemption, and now with Sky Raider.

I flashed the new 04.08 radio and everything worked great. Just about a week ago I started having the same issue. Flashed back to 11.19 and stock 07.28 and having the same issues. At this point I'm thinking it's a VZW issue, very possibly them getting their 4G towers in place.

Alright, I'll hope it comes back.
For a few months I've been having some GPS accuracy problems, and I was wondering if the two were related. GPS test will show 20 ft accuracy, but it will be showing me on a street 100 ft away.

Stronger signal and higher speeds...?

Since I got to work this morning me and all of my Sprint subscribing coworkers are experiencing better signal strength and higher speeds than usual and is especially noticeable in places notorious for crappy signal... The same at my apartment.
Either a new tower went up.. Which is doubtful... Or is this part of the rollout of the system upgrades?
Central CT here... Anyone else noticed anything?

Damn, I am waiting to make the jump from VZW to this phone.... With speeds like the ones that are being reported I don't know if that's even logical.

My 4g is flying. Usually I only get about 6mbps and right now I just hit 14, with 1 bar. 3g is more or less the same

I'm only talking 3G.... And we have horribly overcast skys and rain which usually murders signals... I've got a good feeling about this... I'm afraid to update my PRL lol

Mine aren't better, but something is going on. Signal has been very erratic on both my GSII and my 3D. In the process of working on towers?

I'm lucky if I get 2 mb on 4g in St. louis.

Mine defintely went up. Yesterday on speedtest I got a 102kb down. This morning in the same spot I got 128kb down. Watch out I'm flyin now!!!

3G speeds still, but, respectable. I ordinarily pull 200kbps to 400kbps with 0 to 1 bar at my desk. I'm getting 600 to 1300kbps with 1 to 3 bars.... Buried deep in a steel building. Outside I'm seeing full bars and hover around 2mbps where I usually get 600kbps ish with 2 or 3 bars. Heavy overcast with moderate rain.

I'd be interested to see how the speeds hold up later on in the day. Mine are always respectable in the morning and then go to sh*t in the afternoon hours.

Something is afoot!

I can confirm this and i am in dfw area.
Ppl rooted their phone and blaming on developers for loss of signals past couple days.

Still slow if not slower than usual where I live in Culver City.

btw, my 3g on speedtest typically registers like 50kbps, but in actuality, I do way better on app dls and webpages. I do trust the 4g readouts, though, which tend to be around 4-5 mbps.

ROMS not keeping 4G

I have been flashing for years and i just came over from ATT SG3 where i had no problems flashing and retaining 4g, but now on tmobile every rom i flash all i ever get is 3g and never 4g .. only for a brief second. the reason i came from ATT was the unlimited data.. can someone please assist as i used CM10, AOKP, WICKEDv5, blackjelly..... i cant figured it out. any help would be appreciated.

I have tried every single radio but alas.. i have had no luck and i live in Phoenix, AZ and i have tried all the 4.1.1 modems

Hmm i would think Phoenix should have good service. Maybe you should Odin back to stock and start all over. Radio is the only reason i can think of that would affect the speed.

How are you distinguishing what connection you are on? Many roms will show H+ instead of 4g

well on the t-mobile variations the best you can get is H+ and most ROMs show that. other than that, try using a different kernel. that was the problem for me where my data wouldn't even work sometimes.

It looks like op knows the difference between 3g and 4g/H+ he noticed that he only gets 4g for like a second here and there and that's it.

I had a similar problem. What happened with me was one day I went from great 4G (HSPA+) speeds 80ms Ping, 25MB Down, 4MB Up to all of the sudden a 1200ms Ping with 0.05MB Down and NO UPLOAD.
Turns out it was a problem with some towers in my area. Took T-Mobile two weeks to fix everything. Not sure if that is what's happening here but it could be possible.

Same issue AOKP Build5 4.2.2
I too have this same issue with AOKP build 5 solid 3g but no 4g (H+) (tmo)
Stock however has solid 4g (chandler AZ)
gonna try CM and see what happens there.
Also gonna research radios aswell (really really really liked AOKP just didnt like being back on 3g)

4g lte not working

I am running the latest cm10 nightly and I haven't been able to connect to 4g lte for the last week or two. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

Which market are you in? There's a chance that the tower was only on for testing and has since been turned off. There's also a chance that another tower closer to you is currently being upgraded, so the phone is trying to connect to that tower's LTE, getting rejected, and falling back to 3G. That's what's happening to me, and it's frustrating because I had a steady 4G signal for a week and a half, then one day, it refused to stay connected to 4G for longer than a minute. Now, I just have to wait for them to finish the new tower.
The reason could be just about anything depending on your market.

I am in the Atlanta market which has been officially announced. Friends that live nearby have not been having this problem on stock ux software. I was wondering if cm10 has a big or something?

Actually, it has a couple LTE bugs. CM10 doesn't currently handle 3G/4G handoffs properly, so that could be part of the issue, but it holds a 4G connection fine if the signal is strong enough, at least from my experience. Another bug is that it will just stop making connections, and you have to wipe data to fix it. Have you tried toggling airplane mode? If that doesn't work, make a nandroid and try a clean install of CM10. I had to do that recently because it completely stopped connecting to 4G and barely connected to 3G. As soon as I booted up, 4G was back (didn't last long, but I explained that in my other post). If wiping data doesn't work, flash to TW and see if the problem persists. If it still doesn't connect, then you may have a hardware issue, but I think that's unlikely since it was working for you before. You never know, though.
Keep in mind, even though Atlanta's been officially launched, it's only about one third complete, so lots of towers are still being upgraded. It's possible you're facing the second issue in my first post, like I am. If so, then just concentrate on how much better it'll be when the new tower is finished.

Happened to me several times. The best thing you can do is make a nandroid once you get your favorite AOSP rom set up to your liking, and restore to it once LTE stops working. I tried to get myself to go to TW but its just so slow

I have a similar issue. If i go into settings, about phone, and status I pick up LTE:13, but I get no connection or IP address so I have to change over to 3g. Is this a known issue, and if so is it being addressed? I am currently running nightly 10-14-2012 if it helps. Thanks
Edit: I've tried TW and it works just fine there. 14 down and 6 up.

Its likely to do with cm10. And the handoff issue like it was explained a few posts back. I love cm10 but data would work if u was lucky for 2 hours out of the whole day. So I'm on the leaked lih build. Just gotta wait patiently for the great devs to figure it out.

Getting really slow data...

For some reason lately I've been getting only Edge in my area when normally I get extremely solid H+. I don't know if my phone is acting up (completely stock on 4.1.2) or if AT&T may be upgrading their network in my area, possibly adding LTE. Any ideas why?

Let us know if it doesnt work. It happens. If youre getting it a lot. Thats not usual. Or if it happens in your house fron 4g down to edge. It could be an issue with your tower. Or location. Maybe the tower is overloaded and they kick you to another?
This has happened to me once on this phone. And it was on either stock rom or blackout. Cant remember

Well where I work I get full signal. Averaging 10 Mbps down on H+. But recently I've only been getting Edge. It could very well be what you said about too many users on one tower. I'll try tomorrow and let you know.

A few months ago when I had my Galaxy S3 I got this problem out of nowhere. I never found a solution even tho I tried going back to stock and several other "fixes". Ended up having to send the phone back and getting another one. Idk if the antenna went bad or what but even on Edge it was unresonble slow

Well I couldn't hold myself back the other night and I flashed Jedi X. Haha. Having no data issues now.

I'm forced to use HSPDA due to the LTE network being overloaded here in SoCal.
Funny thing is, with LTE on, I avg about 3down/10up....with HSPDA, I get roughly 6down/1up. Quite frankly, I care more about download than upload anyway so it's actually better for me
