[Q] Very weak signal on Note II. Radio Help? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey XDA Fam bam!
I have the T-mobile branded Note II and i'm experiencing the following problem:
Very weak signal.
Here's a little background. I rooted the phone and installed pmtr3 first V1 Rom and everything was perfect.
Then played around with other roms too and then the signal went every weak.
Then when I went back to pmtr3's first rom my signal did not improve. I would lose connection
everywhere. I replaced my tmo sim card, but I still experience this problem. I also went back to my stock nandroid backup, but it still did not help my signal problem.
Is there some sort of radio or modem I can flash? Am I the only one experiencing this problem?
I'm thinking it can be a hardware problem, but Idk. What input do you have my XDA fam bam?

Yeah, right now im about to do a odin factory restore thing. If it does not work, then i'm heading over and getting myself the phablet exchanged. Thanks nemesis!

Xda users are probably the reason for most handset returns....period. user error

That may be the case for most, but not this time. I received my replacement and did the exact same thing to it. Turns out the original was a defective device. I'm enjoying my replacement Note II now
Sent from my GNII

I think that's what I'm going to have to do about mine.

Actually, I've processed hundreds of device exchanges/replacements/returns, and I guarantee you, less than 1% have even heard of xda. Assumption error.

Most problems FROM xda members devices are caused by user error. E.G. wrong roms. Not reading before doing stuff and trying to do too much. Its all over the forums. Maybe you havent read the same forum im talking about. Im talking about xda developers.
P.s. please no more pm's you are killing me. I try to read them but I just cant make it through some of them. I have to delete them.

Uh oh, well just in case, I saved them here:
http://pastebin.com/eUBHLqNY if anyone else is interested.

Well I waited in line for an hour at my tmo store and got a new sim card as they claimed that would solve the data issue. But I also made them process an exchange. So I should have my new one tuesday. No more rooting until the problems solved.

Loss of network

My issue is whenever I hook up to wifi my mobile network drops not allowing me to make phone calls. This ask started once I rooted my phone. I'm running the stock rom as well. The only solution is for me to reboot my phone. Is there anyone else having this issue, and is there a solution?

Just doin to the stock Rom. It fixed los for me. And it updates your radio

FYI OP, this is all over the place under LOS, or Loss Of Service.
These issues haven't had one guaranteed fix (or any reproducible permanent fix that I have seen.)
Reported LOS occurs in low signal/roaming situations, when wifi is on, or unbeknownst completely... all these depending on the user, and solutions are equally thin and subjective.
Most likely there is no current fix for your issue until an official update occurs. Until then you can probably try to placebo the problem away like most people here.
... and your other issue can be solved here

Loss of Network is what occurs when someone ditches Sprint for a phone that comes out on another carrier that isn't broken (which in this case is a fairly substantial sort of broken for any regular user) from day 1 and counting...
We XDA lurkers/trolls/devs, we are the ones that stick, for better or worse, until that update comes out that makes the phone function... a phone whose modems are working 100% of the time for the major reason we bought it, to use as a phone, with signal and data and the like.
LON is a new problem now so we can start another slew of threads about it.
Okay, I didn't know what los stood for, but I appreciate all the help. Now I know. I'm glad it wasn't something with my phone.

[Q] What do you think??

Here's what has happened....
I purchased my SGS2 Saturday April 14th, I rooted it same day, I flashed TDJ Warefare. I noticed on the 4th day after getting my phone my calls started to drop like crazy. Like every other call was dropping or they couldn't hear me. So I called Tmo they walked me through troubleshooting, that didn't help. Took it back to the store where I purchased it this past weekend the sales rep said it sounds like it's a bad sim card. Ok so they changed my sim (of course I rooted again tried Jugganuats this time) and the phone was working fine until yesterday it starting dropping calls. SO I took the phone back and they switched it with a new one.
I would like to know from you all should I try rooting again?
Please don't flame me for asking this question or if it's in the wrong section of the forum.
I would just like your honest opinion as to what If I should or not and if I do, is there a solution to the dropped calls????
Thanks all
Rooting has nothing to do with your dropped calls. your first phone was defective.

I did I have a new one now. I was asking should I root again? I just don't want my calls to start dropping again.
Let me ask you since it's not the rooting what do you think it could be??
Did you do a factory reset before taking it back?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Rooting will not affect the signal or radio. Would suggest that, stay on stock ROM for a week or so and see if you get drop calls. If not, then try another ROM and if you get drop calls after that so it has to do with the ROM.

Should I buy used GSM Gnex with known signal issues?

I found someone selling a excellent condition GSM Gnex here in the U.S. He says it has issues keeping a signal. I have read on here and other places that it is a fairly common problem. I have also read of people claiming to fix it but I find many different things regarding different countries radios, etc. Keeping in mind I have not rooted a phone before, however I am some what literate to tech things. Should I buy this phone? Is there actually a fix? I am suppose to do the deal fairly soon. Thanks in advance
200 is a good deal .... I probably would go for it lol I think u could probably get your money back reselling if it stumps u on signal issue.

Maybe flashing a new raadio could fix this issue .. maybe u have to root of course but use the nexus root toolkit from wugfresh its really easy and new radio if u want i can post a link here
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I doubt its a hardware problem... Anything software/firmware/radio can be changed. If its not physically broken than it's just user error messing things up and dropping signal. If you're willing to troubleshoot it and flash new firmware it's probably a good deal.

Thanks again for the info.
Im brand new to Android with only using a HTC Amaze for the last week or so. Got the GNex Saturday. The phone is already rooted so I followed instructions found on this site and installed bigxie_maguro_JRN84D_v2-signed.zip so I could have JB. I then flashed the Radio you suggested.
I have Simple Mobile which I was using with my other phone (HTC Amaze) and never had problems. With the GNex, in my house I get a pretty good consistent signal. When I drive around my city I completely loose service for blocks in many places I never had a problem before with my other phone (HTC Amaze). In some places I can go to one end of a room and have no service and walk to the other end and have service. Im now at work where I never had problems with my Amaze and I have no service at all with this phone.
I have been doing some reading and notice most complain of signal lose being attached to sleep but this is not the case with me. When driving I kept it awake and would just watch it go to no service for blocks and them come back. Also many complain of the signal being just "weaker" then other phones they used but I am getting NO signal any many places that where find before.
I tried the clear cache trick suggested in one post but still have the same problem. I also tried the GetRiL program which says everything is fine as far as my radio set up. Im showing a baseband of l9250XXLF1. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. I love this phone otherwise and would really like to use it.
I have a nexus and my father has a HTC rezound. He is always at least 10DBM stronger, most of the time more. It's been that way with every Samsung phone I've owned (charge and fascinate) Samsung's radios are just weaker apparently. Motorola is stronger than HTC but not by much.

"Turning Wi-Fi on..." continuously displaying

Hi all,
I know this seems to be a wide spread problem and I've read through several threads hoping to fix the problem but nothing seems to be really working for me :/
This first happened while I was running 4.0.3. Wifi was working fine. Then one day when I went to switch it on like I normally ever would, it seemed to get stuck at the "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message. Reboots didn't help anything.
So I decided to upgrade to 4.1.1 thinking that doing a factory reset and flashing a new ROM would fix things. Flashed Paranoid Android ROM with no problems (wiped data, dalvik cache, etc etc) and saw the same problem with wifi when I tried turning it on. Reboot did nothing. Tried flashing the boot.img manually and that did nothing. Tried flashing Trinity kernel and once again nothing.
Can anyone help me out? This is really killing me and I think it's also destroying my phone's battery life as well
My Galaxy Nexus is GSM yakju if that helps out at all.
Thanks!!
This was also my problem... except my phone rebooted every 2minutes... I just flashed stock everything and then sent it to Samsung

So any other suggestions other than dead wifi chip?
Unfortunately, your phones WiFi chip is dust! Same thing happened to me! Did some research and found out that its a known issue! Sent mine in and received a new Gnex four days later!

How does this work exactly? Do you need a receipt or anything? I'm guessing I need to flash back to stock rom and unroot? And probably call or talk to Samsung to get it set up? Any other details I'm missing?
Thanks!

Well for me, I bought GNEX from someone else and I had to ask the guy to give me the receipt cuz Samsung wouldn't take it unless I show proof that the phone was from Canada (I live in canada)
Also I would recommend flashing to stock uprooting and re locking... Just in case

Well I guess you have to contact your friend. Also, if you can't get a support from Samsung (I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't help you...) I guess you have to go to any repair shop, since it looks like a hardware problem.

GPS

Has anyone been having problems with GPS? I literally cannot attain a lock. I've tried on every ROM I have, I've Odin'd back to stock and can't even get a lock with it completely stock. Tried it sitting still outside, in a car going down the highway, etc and it just constantly says "Searching for satellites." I've tried Weather apps, Maps, Waze, GPS Status and Toolbox, none will get a lock. I can obviously get a good enough location estimate using the mobile towers and WiFi, but the GPS just doesn't want to cooporate.
Not really much you can do that you haven't tried. You might have a defective device.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's not that.. if it is, I'm pretty well out of luck, unless it's a1 year warranty; I bought it outright from T-Mobile but I don't have their service/insurance...

That's what comes with bobcat Rom I do believe... tried it and nothing. It's not that it takes a while to get a fix, it doesn't get a fix at all.
I tried the comadose tweak a few days ago, but that shouldn't be something that could survive a Rom flash, much less Odin... other than that though, I can't think of anything I could have done to it..
Worth mentioning, from my searching and the few problems regarding gps and the s4, some said it was some app causing the problem... I do believe I can rule that out as I've tried as soon as the initial boot completed from both a regular recovery flash and from Odin.

The phone is supposed to have a 1 year warranty from Samsung.
The issue is getting them to admit fault and replace it.
I found this fix for an S3.
You never know, especially if it was working, and then it stopped locking for ya.

I actually tried this before posting. I believe I did a fair share of research and testing before I posted, I just wanted to get a few opinions from the community before trying to pursue a warranty claim. Thank you all for the suggestions.

Just an update: I just spoke to Samsung Customer service regarding this. After explaining the problem and my steps to remedy (minus all the parts about being rooted, custom recoveries, etc obviously), I was informed that this is most assuredly a hardware issue (the conclusion I had already drawn) and would have to be diagnosed by their technicians; which would be covered under warranty. Seems painless enough, but it will sadly be December before I can even get it out to them. :\
So, from others who have ever made a warranty claim with Samsung, what type of things should I have prepared for when I'm able to send this out to make this as painless as possible?
