Replacement digitizers - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any of you guys ever deal with repair universe for replacement screens? I recently picked up an xperia play on craigslist for $40 with a cracked screen but everything worked perfect. So I ordered a replacement from repair universe. Got it put on and it doesn't respond to touch. I've taken it apart 4 times now checking connections and everything is fine so it must be a defective part right. So far all I got back from them was "every unit is tested before shipping" check this, that and the other thing. Am I going to have a problem getting them to send me another one? Anyone else have this problem?

broken screen

Well my girlfriend jumped on my lap and smashed my phone in my pocket. The outer screen did not break but the lcd screen appears to be broken. I found replacement lcds on ebay for $75. Has anyone had any experience switching out screens or does anyone have a guide on how to dismantle the phone.
bump it TTT
I'm confident that there may be a guide around here. If there isn't one try searching on google which there will be one. The screen is really easy to replace from what I've heard. Good luck!

If you have insurance call sprint and ask them for a credit for the deductible. Worked for me

Cracked my evo

it's pretty bad, luckily i have a screen protector on it so all the glass is still in position. i peeled a bit off and pieces of glass were falling out.
anyways i dont have insurance, i was looking thro ebay to buy whats needed to fix it myself, but i'm not entirely sure what i need. it's fully functional, the glass is just cracked, but nothing wrong with the touch screen. now with that said....
do i need this?

or this one:

or this one

i do realized 2 and 3 are the same, i was wondering if theres a quality differnece? i'm hoping someone with some background on this could comment, i would definitely appreciate it.
Take it to Sprint, under their new policy, they will repair it for 35.00 if you don't have insurance.

read...................they give you a refurb or new one, not guaranteed to be 0002 or 0003, take your chances or replace the whole front, i got a few of them
thanks
thank you for the quick reply i think i am going to chance it and send it in rather than me destroy something
I'm not forcing you to me but it is literally impossible to screw something up, its no relying, nothing, just straight up screwing 6 screws swap front part if phone with new one, and screw back, its really easy tbh

They don't just give you a new one or refurbished one. If all he has is a broken digitizer and LCD they can replace that. They usually carry 003 and older parts in stock. If the damage is beyond repair then they might give him a refurb but not without verifying that the phone is repairable.

Well they sent me a new one so idk....

Would this work on the evos selling cheap on eBay due to cracked screens or water damage...? Obviously not for the ones that are being sold with bad ESN's
Sent from my froyo using the xda app
Maybe. Not sure about the water damaged ones. But I would suggest buying it keeping on the account for a while then taking it to get repaired. You don't want to raise suspicion and then have sprint cut the repair policy.

Thanks for this post. My screen broke yesterday. I was running upstairs to my apartment with the phone in my hands and I tripped and had to brace myself with my hands. I didn't even know the phone was broken till a few minutes later when my gf saw it.
I'm so glad Sprint will fix it for $35 I thought I was going to have to wait a month at least to save up @$100 and buy a replacement screen. At $35 I'll have it fixed next paycheck or maybe the next one cause of xmas.

How much for GSIII w/shattered screen?

Dropped my GSIII face-down on concrete Saturday morning....phone didn't bounce. When I picked it up, majority of the screen is cracked, much more near the bottom...however there are no scuff marks along the sides and back....and the touchscreen and phone still work. After I get back from vacation, which will be 10/27, I will more than likely buy another one. So after I do that, how much should I expect to get for my current one if I put it up for sale?
ive seen a lot of cracked gs3 for around 250 but never more than 300.

idk that seems a little ..Keep in mind your looking at ~$300 to replace the screen alone. id be happy walkin away with $150 200 max
With the Note 2 coming out next week, might buy that instead, then sell this baby.

Ill give you $150 for it.
dont sell that thing for less than $225-250.
if you look hard enough you can find a replacement screen+digitizer+entire front assembly for $100-150, then you can just fix the phone yourself. Thats what I did when my screen broke, and I have pretty much zero technical expertise and confidence fixing things. It really is that easy replacing the screen yourself if you buy the whole front assembly including digitizer.
Here's a bunch for $150 ---this is all you need to fix your busted screen!

I'm going on vacation tomorrow...will decide what to do when I get back.
I broke my inner screen (display), not the outer glass, somehow.
Walked into sprint repair store.
Gave them phone
Came back an hour later with it working perfectly and they only charged my $37.
Might be worth a try.
They had a defective GS3 laying around to swap out the screen or change out the guts of the phone. I visited a Sprint store and they said they could do it for $35, but put me on a waiting list until they get a returned GS3.
hmm got lucky I guess.
But thats what I'd do instead of taking a massive loss and selling it for $150 or something
If its only the glass and nor display you can buy a replacement for $40 bucks and change it yourself

[Q] Is My Digitizer Broken or do I have main board issues?

I have an LS970 and I recently dropped it pretty hard onto a desk. The bottom quarter of the screen stopped working after the drop along with the capacitive touch buttons at the bottom. I was able to deal with this but today when I sat on the couch my phone fell again and a crack went down the middle of the digitizer. Now only some areas work and I am not able to unlock it. Before I buy a new digitizer and lcd I want to know if it could have also been main board issues that made the bottom part of the screen not work since no cracks appeared after dropping it on a desk. Thanks
I am about 99% sure its ya digitizer/LCD ... The main bored is tucked well in the middle of the phone ....I have pictures up on the sim card mod thread if u wanna c ...

Alright thanks. I'll go ahead and order a new lcd/digitizer tonight. I hate how they're combined as my lcd is fine but I'd rather fix it than buy another phone.
Thanks again.

It's the digitizer. I have a wonderful wife whom I love very much who has broken her screen three times. Each time that the screen broke, the digitizer went with it. It has to do with the fact that there is essentially no separation between the two on our phones, so drops that damage the screen almost always damage the digitizer.

I just picked up a broken LG Optimus G off craigslist and toward the bottom of the screen it has a hairline crack. Also the capacitive buttons do not work either....my problem sounds exactly like the OP.
Can anyone suggest a good place to buy a cheap digitizer/glass/ LCD?? I'm lookin on ebay and they seem to be about $80
Thanks,
Kevin
I've been looking around ebay too and they're all about 80 for the cheapest. I checked out a few phone repair websites and prices are much higher there. If you find anything cheaper let me know. I plan on buying it soon.
EDIT: The best I found on ebay was 78 was from the US and 69 from China. I know they are all from china but it's just a shipping time thing.

Based on the dialogue I had when my wife's screen broke not only with the insurance carrier but also a repair shop, replacing the screen or digitizer on this phone is always going to be very expensive because both parts almost always have to be replaced together. $80 sounds very inexpensive to me based on those conversations.

N900T does not respond to touch but works with the pen

I've passed the phone to my daughter who broke the screen two months ego. A !local shop replaced it two months ago. I went back to that shop when this happened. They say there is liquid on an internal chip and that they swapped screens and it did not fix it. My daughter says that makes no sense because she only knocked it to the carpet from two feet and it stopped working the next day. Presumably this wet chip issue was not present two months ago when they swapped the screen. So either she got it wet or she dropped it or it broke or the shop screwed up. They say it needs a main board or motherboard and it can't be fixed.
Are there places that can fix it for a reasonable price? Is it worth anything for parts with a new screen/digitizer? Game over? Seems a shame to toss it but its not worth another $200 repair.
Advice?
