Just an empty zip with the nesscessary script and binary needed for flashing. Drop what you want to flash in the /system folder. Non-system apks need to be signed with another program like APK manager.

By using either 7zip you can make a folder and put the file in it to flash. For instance if you wanted root explorer to go into system\app you would create a system folder in the root of the flashable, then open that and create a folder called app in that, then open the app folder and place your app to flash there.
Now let's cut the drama in here. This is the final warning.

The system/app folders are already in the zip. So the only folders you would need to add is if you wanted it to go into data/app. If so you would just follow kenny's instructions but make a folder named data and then inside that make another folder named app and place your app inside that. But if you want it to be in system just use 7-zip and open the system/app folders and drag your app in, close it and flash.

No, what M.E. is trying to tell you is whatever theme that you have downloaded. And only want the dialer to install. Open the zip with 7zip or whatever program you use, delete all apk's in the zip except for dialertapactivity.apk and phone.apk. Don't delete anything else other than apk's not wanted. Exit the program and copy the zip to your SDcard and flash with CWM.

App theme question

I was tring to mod a launcher apk that I have and I re named it to a .zip so I can extract it. So. Edited the icons I wanted to changed, and when I trid to rename it .apk it just stays in a folder form. How do I make it back to how it was before I renamed it .zip so I can install it on my phone? Thanks in advance guys

You can, in 7zip anyway, extract an apk directly.
As far as renaming the folder to work? No dice. Windows doesn't work that way.
You can open the original zip and just swap the files or add it to a new zip(without compression).
You could also get APKManager to auto extract it from the batch file.

You could try that yes.
I'm pretty sure Windows does basic compression. Which might mess up something or other.
Try 7zip!
The portable version is only 2.38mb. And the install is even smaller.

[Q] Zipped Backup

Is there anyway i can backup my whole ROM as a zip file? I want to be able to bring it to my computer, edit some png's, then reflash and have the modifications up. If there is such thing please let me know. I am extremely interested in this!!
Why not just transfer the rom.zip you used to flash and edit the framework-res and systemui.apk's and then gut a flashable zip and place those in appropriate folder and flash that? That's what I do if you need a plain empty flashable I can upload one for you
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Let me elaborate on that
You take a flashable that already contains an updater-script in it aka meta-inf.
Make a framework folder and this is where you will put your signed and renamed Framework-res.apk then make a folder named System and in system folder make an App folder and this is where you'll place the SystemUI.apk.
*note* you need to sign these when your done swapping pngs and rename them appropriately.
Once done sign the whole.zip boot into cwm and flash it this will replace the stock framework-res etc and you'll be good to go
http://db.tt/xfQOB8Kg
Use this .zip for your flashable this will do all the work in cwm mounting wise. Just delete the folders in the system folder and do what I told you above

What do you mean? All you'd have to do is open the zip and find the .apks extract them edit the pngs and sign them put them in the flashable and flash it... I'm not understanind your issue

No if you create this flashable what you edit to put it this it will only change what your flashing like if you put nothing in the flashable then nothing will change. If you want to flash a vending.apk put in this flashable and flash it that's all that's going to change is the replacing of the market...

Lol if you have windows 32bit ill find my installer on my pc for the apksigner and ill upload it for you xD
If you plan on editing an applications png then once you've opened it and replaced said pngs then it needs to be resigned and renamed to not have the "signed" in it
Signing means its certifed and has the ability to be installed as application

lol upload it please. im using apk manager 4.9 but man this really tough. can u elaborate a bit more? im so sorry lol im just not grasping it.
do not give up on me!! lol
how bout this look: so im trying to make a minor change to an app just for fun. its airdroid. so is the first step to extract the apk or to decompile?
and lol i was trying to accomplish the task of making mynandroid backup a flashable zip but this interests me to.
So, lets get clear, what exactly r u helping me do now? In my head im thinking ur trying to help me edit an app and then install it in my phone right?
if im wrong then tell me what we are trying to do!! lol
Yeah that sounds like its much more difficult then what I use what I use you drag and drop the finished apk and it signs it lol simple give me a minute to find it upload it and paste a download link..pc sucks arse phone is much faster....
Edit: yes I'm helping you edit an apk and then have it install on the phone or be able to be pushed to the /system/app folder...

How to combine multiple .zips into 1 flashable .zip?

I have multiple .zips that I flash for inverted gapps and I was wondering was there anyway I could combine them into one flashable .zip file so I don't have to flash each one individually. I suspect it would take more than just putting all the .zips into one .zip, right?
Also, I'm on a mac. I can access a windows computer if necessary but it would be nice to do it all from my mac

Not really, no. Just unzip all your files, organize them all together ignoring duplicates, then re-zip.

When I unzip each .zip I get the folder that contains the data, META-INF and system folders inside. Where do I go from there? Do I compress all the separate folders into one .zip? I've never done this before so sorry for the seemingly obvious questions!
If they are all just apps from the system folder, simply take every apk out of each zip and place them in the system folder of one of the zips (using 7-zip) then flash it.

I was thinking that but I was also wondering if the other files inside contributed to each individual apps theming of some sort. But thanks for the tip! I will try that on my next ROM flash

Ah, thank you for clarifying
So, would it be possible to, in addition to customizing which apps load on flashing the "re-zipped" ROM, also add a kernel to be flashed along with the ROM all in one flash? Or would the kernel need to be baked into the from?

In theory this would be possible, but it would be more complicated then flagging a few system apps.

[MOD]Phantom's Build.prop Tweaks

Taking this down for now, I have a rom coming out tonight
Hey all, some of you may know me from other sammy forums. I currently don't have a galaxy s iii yet, so am limited to what I can do in terms of development at the moment, but would like to release some build prop tweaks for you guys to get things running a little smoother.
The build.prop is attached at the bottom, just unzip and adb push to /system or place it there using root explorer and change permissions to match the existing file.. Enjoy, I will have more to come soon
For the latest lf9 Update.

I used root explorer. Perhaps it can only be done using adb?
