I know from experience that Parinoid Android is a really cool ROM but why is this happening?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29487326&postcount=1
No doubt people have the right to make money but can people just decide on a whim to block the use of their open source ROM? Or parts of it?
Would someone correct me if im wrong but isnt xda-developers all about open source?
EDIT
Are the developers required to announce up front that they intend to sale their work?
Well, you are using the application that someone else has created, therefore if they wish to see it gone you should see to it.
That's the "doing what is right" part, my opinion is that xda is an open community, therefore if someone uses someone else's creations and gives him credit there should be no problem.
Moved to About XDA section.
It is their right to ask this if the apk is closed source. Not all of android is open source. Most apps are closed source. So if the app developers ask them to remove it then they "will" remove it.

Same reason why you have to flash GApps after flashing most ROMs.
They're proprietary and closed source and Google sent a cease and desist letter to the CM team demanding they remove those apps.

Was wondering if the xda app could have the same scroll up to refresh function just like the Facebook app?

the general forum of the e4gt is definitely the most visible place for a request that would be handled by the creator of the app.
Yes it is possible. I've actually seen the source code before for the function but never needed to use it.

I placed it here for a reason. Besides, more or less it doesn't change anyone, kill anyone, or damage anything. Be glad i didn't make it a development post.
I asked in our community so that if it IS possible. Someone here could obtain the credit for a utterly simple yet very very nice feature I'm pretty sure people are starting to get used too. Maybe it could even try to get pushed to many other apps.

No neeed for hostility he's just advising that this would get a better view in the Genral section.
Just get the credit yourself and look up the code to post it.
We need to make a change to the Sprint Galaxy Nexus and give us full AOSP. Sprint has refused to give up the drivers for the Galaxy Nexus, making it impossible for AOSP to be able to do anything with it. This leaves a ton of users, modders, rommers, hackers, and tweakers pretty angry, considering that good, stable builds of ROMs are hard to create without drivers for their devices. Driver codes should be released as Verizon and GSM did when Jelly Bean 4.1.1 was released. Make a change along with me.....thank you for your support! we can make a change!

we need to make change to the sprint Nexus device suppose to be pure AOSP (Google phone) but Samsung/Sprint is falsely advertising the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Galaxy Nexus, this device should be fully opened from the operating system to ALL the drivers for the hardware and unfortunatley that's the the case anymore until the the driver codes and ect. should be realeased as is should be so please stand up make a stand and make a change along with me.....thank you for your support! we can make a change!

Ya I kinda agree. Very sloppy and not presentable. I know it was probably written fast, however It needs cleaning!!!

I signed, but...
The writing is pretty bad. It's going to be hard to be taken seriously with a letter like that. Just saying...
I don't know why people are getting so excited about this now, it's nothing new. Toroplus not being AOSP supported was something we all knew (or should've) when we bought the phone.

Come on guys post this everywhere!! i saw the ATT 4.1.1 already on the forum last night and i was like were is the sprint one? now i know why and its absolute crap that sprint is being like this i was almost proud of them today for fighting the ban on the galaxy nexus with apple and now this crap?
Where else would you like me to post it Chyrio.
The gsm/vzw users should back this what happens when they decide they (vzw) don't support your device as a nexus device? It's in everyone's interest to send the carriers a message and just hundreds of signatures wouldn't make them bat an eye. Broadcast it on the social networks, I'm tweeting now.

@marcusva79 really????? you are more concerned about the spelling and whats capitalized or not more than the petition itself? then the main purpose, sprint releasing AOSP to the Gnex...you really have nothing better to do than proof read and criticize when all I'm doing is trying to support Toroplus....and saying that there would more people would of signed this partition if it had proper spelling? BULL****! people will sign because of AOSP support not because I freaking didn't spell some words correctly..so stop being a douche bag and actually support this petition than criticize
On another note thank you for everyone for signing and posting it on your social networks!
and i do apologize for the the poor grammar where it made this petition unprofessional....for those people that overlook at my grammar and looked at the real problem that needs to be addressed and resolved, thank you for your support to make a change!

So there is a group or team that develops the rom(aokp, cm10), and when they put new builds out individuals pick then up and do the writing necessary to run a partocular device?
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
there's no "groups or teams" we BUILD CM10\AOKP\PA all from source i work on Base rom's which is CM9\CM10\AOSP when the CM* rom's get stable enough i pass them to maxwen and he finishes them off, which gives me free time to de-stress and spend time with girlfriend and work on other projects.
for CDMA JMZtaylor builds the Base rom's which are CM9\CM10
we work together......seeing threads like this drives me up the wall
Why would it drive you up a wall? Because I'm ignorant of what y'all do? I wish i could apologize for wanting to understand (sarcasm, mind you).

Dude,
XDA is NOT a support site of any kind.
It is a forum for developers, yes it has grown massivley over the years, but in general most folks on here are at least kinda techie, geeky, or both. There are also many users who just want to download cool stuff. There is nothing wrong with that but devs get annoyed when "users" don't want to take the time to learn forum rules, read, or do a bit of research.
Every dev on here is a volunteer, they do what they do because they enjoy it, and like being involved in a community of like minded folk who know the devices we spend our cold hard cash on are usually capable of much more than manufacturers like to release. Yes, there are "teams" large and small but they do not get paid for this, work under deadlines, or are expected to provide any support.
I don't mean to sound too cold, but with a little reading and research you could have found out all you needed to know about the CM team, AOKP, etc AND read in Lior's dev thread that his build is UNOFFICIAL meaning not an officially supported device by the actual aokp team. Even if it were an officially supported device that would not mean timetables, support, or warranty. Seriously, do a little research.
And understand, when you joined in August what number were you? Did you watch the "you are a noob" video, I made my son watch that when he joined. There are LOTS of new people here who demand, are rude etc. I am not saying that you are necasarily one of them, but when each device can count the number of devs on two hands or less, compared to the number of registered XDA users and you can see how a dev like Lior could get upset at your lack of wanting to read.
In the future, until you have contributed to this forum please refrain from even using sarcasm with a respected dev. Read, learn, and I hope you enjoy XDA, but remeber it is a developer forum, not a noob support site.
Regards.
Edit: ahhhh, just realized I kept typing Lior, and not Lloir, my apologies Dude.

Where in gods name is the source code for aosp? I searched Google, including the source and developers website. I don't even know where to begin. A little disheartening. I thought long and hard on it and I really want to make a Rom from source so I can start with a clean slate. I may need some help like every first time Rom builder. I guess it would help to join a team? I don't know where to begin with that either. If anyone can help either post on here or PM me. I recently read that development for our phones is slowly dying. I don't want to believe that, but if it does...I want it to go out with A BANG!!! Thanks everyone for your help! :good: :fingers-crossed:
Am I breaking a rule by asking this question? Can someone at least point me in the direction of a tutorial about roms. I don't want my hand held just to be clear.

Check out the chef central section for some guides. As for sources, look around at some of the development roms that include links to their github. You can start from their source and merge others into it to create it how you want.

Its open source so it should be that big a deal. A github is used for hosting open sources. Just credit where credit is due.

and i quote from there home page "We will be completely open source and will welcome developers to join us, whether it be by maintaining a device or utilizing our gerrit review. Even if you're not a developer, your voice will not go unheard. We will continually poll our users for the most wanted features and do our best to implement them."
