Check with some custom roms, because some devs includes the T Mobile WiFi calling into their roms.

You forgot to mention those custom ROMs are stock-based ROMs. Just trying to be clear and not confuse the OP.

its my understanding that once you root, you lose the tmobile wifi calling (specifically talking about the native tmobile not groove or GV etc)
is this correct?

No you don't. You lose Wifi calling by using a non-TWiz ROM like AOSP/AOKP variants. Rooting does nothing but give you the access to change things. It doesn't cause battery drain or loss of functionality or increase your stamina. Those are all User issues that Root will give you.

mrRobinson's stock Injected root roms are pure stock, with all its original stock functionality, just with root.
mrRobinson has the unrooted stock roms too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560
FYI:
4.22 Jelly Bean Android SGH-T889 T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 manufacturer (Samsung) version is not out yet. So you are not going to find that with this date I wrote this.
You can find AOSP (Android Open Source Project) versions of 4.22 Jelly Bean Android roms and versions the international Galaxy Note 2 4.22 Jelly Bean Android roms are either can be found now or will be able to be found in a few days or weeks. But these roms do not have everything that would make T-Mobile SGH-T889 Galaxy Note 2 complete. Roms based on international Galaxy Note 2 won't have the WiFi calling feature. And the AOSP roms may not have all the Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 functionality features or even the T-mobile WiFi calling feature.
For now if you want full stock functionality features and T-Mobile features then you need to stick with 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Android roms. MrRobinson's injected root roms does give you the full stock functionality features and T-Mobile features while giving you root. And the stock roms we directed you to does the same with or without root.
PS - As time goes on our devices will get updated. So at that point in time and from that point on some of this information will be incorrect.

I have never ported the roms... I do think if you use any of my roms or from other dev it should just work without any issues, all u need to do is just check ur apn settings to make sure everything is correct so u can get data and mms working. so just make a backup first, then flash the rom..
