[Q] HTC One X - Hboot update? - HTC One X

Sorry, if this sounds like a noobish thread.
Well, i have CID_044 and Hboot 1.12 on the International Unlocked Version of HTC One X. My question here is, when the official update (JB 4.1.1) for my CID is released, will it automatically update my Hboot as well? Coz i think JB requires a newer Hboot? Or will i have to do it manually?

The search button was created with a purpose
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832891
Edit : and yes jb needs a higher hboot, but if you ask me my opinion according to your question ....stay on ics and wait for the official update, it will update everything automaticly .....it comes when it comes.....
Patience is a virtue !

Most probably yes , hboot is like the BIOS on a computer , so it should need a compaitable boot.img , I mean the boot.img at the newe JB Stock ROMs need a compaitable hboot to run which may be only available at newer hboots

Hboot version

I got my One X when they first came out, rooted it straight away and have been very happy. I'm running a JB AOKP ROM.
I've noticed a lot of talk about hboot versions, 1.23/1.28. My hboot is still 0.43. Am I missing anything? Does updating the hboot actually matter?
Thanks for any information

I have almost the same question : I would like to install the "Android Revolution HD 11.1" ROM and spent few days parsing the various post in the corresponding section of the forum.
The installation procedure states that to go to JB we need to have HBOOT v1.23. In addition it is indicated that :
{Do the following only if you have hboot version 0.43.
Download this ROM. You need to flash this RUU after you relock but before you flash firmware. Your hboot version will say 1.12}

Now my question :
My HOX indicates HBOOT v1.12 without any upgrade, do I need to upgrade it or not ?
Thanks in advance for your help

If you have 1.12, there is no need to upgrade to 1.12 before upgrading to 1.28.
To upgrade to 1.28, keep following the instructions.

Yes you do. But first check if you have the right CID.

Thanks Marc199 and BenPope for you help and QUICK answers !!! :good:
Also, make sure you really do want to upgrade to 1.28 because without S-OFF you can't go back to an hboot with a lower version number.

Thanks for the warning. BTW, how do you check whether if your are S-ON or S-OFF ?
I have been able to define my HBOOT version and my CID but this info...
Is there any thread summarizing hot to get all details about the HOX ?
Thanks again.
At the top of the bootloader it says either S-OFF or S-ON
why ?
Hi,

Yes(for both questions) and if anything goes wrong you can EASILY revert with a backup from your custom recovery (and flashing your old boot.img)
ok

So the hboot version only affects sense roms?
ifsow what does hboot represend ?
because i dont get why would it be good for sense roms but not for non sense roms on the same device.
they have to update or fix some things in those different version right ?
at the start of last year a fix whas published for the bad battery life.
The fix whas supposed to add 10 to 20 % to battery life.
just now i saw a post from somebody asking how to do this fix and they told him it whas fixed in version 1.28 / 1.29
it whas not clear to me if they where refering to hboot version but i think they did.
i'm pretty confused about this, could you help me clarrify a bit ?

HBoot Update (A few questions)

Hey guys, my One X is CID_044 and apparently the OTA update is out. I've downloaded the firmware zip but a few things are a bit hazy to me.
1. Updating HBoot - I know mine's 0.94 now and the update ships with 1.36. Does this mean that I can use current Sense JB ROMS like ARHD IF I just download and update my HBoot alone (no flashing the Stock JB Sense ROM)
2. Will updating HBoot cause problems if I wish to return to ICS ROMs ?
3. Will updating HBoot cause any bugs in the future ?
4. Will updating HBoot cause problems if I want to use CM10 ROM's ?
5. There is no way of downgrading HBoot, is there ?
Thanks hope some of you can help me out. I doubt I'll be updating to the OTA update. Kinda feel sad to leave ViperX just for an update, which by the looks of it, wasn't all that :silly:

1: yes you can.
2: yes it will.
3: unknown. nobody can know. if you would know if anything would cause issues in the future you could become a very rich man
4: if you use the on from tripnraver it should work.
5: no there isn't. no s-off for teh moment
I used to be a viper x user, but did upgrade to ordroid and it is a lot smoother. I am missing all the tweaks but they will come again, so no need to wait in my opinion

[Q] Hboot problem

hi all , i have a problem with my one x.
i'm trying to update to JB but every time when i change the hboot from 1.12 to greater ones - 1.28 to 1.39 the onex is stuck to boot loop.
i can revert to 1.12 due tot the fact that i have S-OFF and i can also install non sense JB - as CM10 but, i would like to install the official JBRUU or at least some other custom rooms that are with the official version.
any ideas, cause i'm out of it?

Lucky you having S-OFF. S-ON is a pain.
Have you only updated HBOOT? I think you might also need a ROM and kernel that are compatible with the newer firmware

with 1.12 i was able to successfully install CM 10, nightly builds, but as soon as i have update my Hboot no other JB sense ROM has worked.
The only way to make my phone work again was to run the Europe RUU ICS 1.20.401.1 which revert my HBOot to 1.12.
Any suggestion?
I may be wrong here, as I'm new to HTC. But doesn't being s-off, as in a super-CID mean you can use any RUU? i.e. running a jb RUU would contain the correct Hboot.

[Q] Hboot and ROMs

Hi everyone, two really quick n00b questions...
Do you have to upgrade Hboot from say 1.21 to 1.39 etc if you want to run a new platform (Jelly Bean) Sense ROM?
And you don't have to upgrade Hboot to get a AOSP Jelly Bean ROM?
The reason I ask is because I'm trying to figure out if Hboot is directly linked to Sense ROMs, it's because I've just read this thing saying you have to update Hboot to get JellyBean on your HOX... but I'm running CM10 on my HOX with Hboot 1.21 (I think...) lol.
With hboot 1.39 works all Sense rom and CM10.1 rom based.
For CM10 you need a special boot.img
hi there
another hboot question, i am on 1.12 and would like to upgrade, which hboot should i choose ?
i thought to relock my hox with my stock nandroid backup and then upgrade by ruu or ota by htc. should i upgrade with ruu or ota htc ?
thanks

You can upgrade your hboot without using ruu or ota
thanks for your quick responding.

You can found the firmware.zip (it contains the new hboot), here

All CM10.1 works fine, CM10 needs a special boot.img.
For upgrade your firmare:
- Relocked your bootloader
- Copy/paste the firmware in folder where you have fastboot
- Open a prompt and type: "fastboot oem rebootRUU" (you can see a black screen with a white written)
- Type: "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip", you can have an error, retype and it will work
- Type "fastboot reboot-bootloader" and you can see you hboot updated
- Unlock your bootloader
- Flash a recovery
- Flash a rom

If you upgrade to 1.39, you can't downgrade because there isn't the s-off.
But if you want jelly, you have to upgrade and, however, you can use ics rom with new hboot
But not CM10, this rom need a special boot.img with new hboot

[Q] About Upgrading HBOOT After Installing Custom ROM

Hi,
First time user of an Android device. I have a branded Vodafone HTC One X that I unlocked and flashed Cyanogenmod 10 on. It works wonderful, runs really fast and is overall much better than Sense. Now that Cyanogenmod 10.1 has reached beta stage, I'm intending on trying out JB 4.2.1. In order to do that, I need to update my HBOOT past 1.28.
It is here that I am quite lost. I did a bit of reading around on xda and other forums to figure out the best method and got a lot of different and sometimes conflicting info. I think this FAQ is the most accurate to my situation although I am worried that it is out of date: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
If it helps, the current HBOOT version on my phone is 1.12 and the CID is VODAP021.
It seems the consensus is that I have to (from top to bottom order):
Revert back to stock Sense ROM
Revert back to stock recovery
Relock bootloader (Do I lose root when I do this?)
Run the correct RUU for my phone in order to update HBOOT
Re-unlock bootloader, re-root (if necessary), re-flash custom recovery and flash CM10.1
Are all the above steps correct?
I am aware that there is a collection of stock Nandroid backups somewhere on this forum, but for simplicity's sake can I just restore the Nandroid backup I made prior to flashing Cyanogenmod on my phone? Will restoring the backup also restore the boot.img file? Will the backup also revert my phone back to stock recovery?
Also, I looked on the RUU directory (http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Endeavor) and found two RUU's that match my phone's CID: 1.26.862.3 and 1.29.862.11. Which one is correct?
Sorry if I seem to be bombarding with questions. I think I get the gist of it, but I'm rather paranoid of screwing up so I just want to triple check my understanding before I do anything. If I am over-complicating things, please let me know.
Yes root is lost on lock ( only remporarily ). When you unlock with fastboot oem unlock_token.bin you get back root.
Has Vodafone released JB update for your phone? If yes , then you dont need RUU. After returning to complete stock ( even recovery ) you cant update with official OTA . This will update the hboot.
You only have to revert to full stock and stock recovery. The bootloader can stay unlocked !
And yes the ota is out for him
The basic steps are :
Flash the boot.img from the nandroid backup
Full wipe in recovery (caches,data,system)
Restore the nandroid backup
Flash the stock recovery
According to your hboot 1.12 you are on 2.17 based android 4.0.4 software .....
This is your stock recovery
