All,
I am a bit confused why my proximity sensor activates and turns off my screen when I am not on a call.. It is quite annoying when I go to pull down my notifications bar and my fat fingers brush infront of the sensor, and the screen turns off for a second..
Should this be like this? and how can i disable it!

Hi pals!
I've been surfing this site for long time. I've had a lot of fun with all the different applications in here and now I've got a request.
I've found some applications for proximity sensor, I've seen those that turn off the screen when detect proximity. But I haven't found the one that turns on the screen once it detects the proximity again.
I'd like to put my Leo on the table and pass my hand in front of the sensor to turn the screen off and pass it once more to turn it on.
Anyone?
When i am on a call 6 times out of 10 my fat cheek hangs up on the other person haha
Is there anyway to turn of the proximity sensor or adjust setting??

There is an app for configuring your proximity sensor, but you need root for that... The solution that works for me is to just move the phone a bit towards your face while talking so that the proximity sensor(the thingy that looks like a led next to your speaker grill, across from the real notification led) actually touches my ear, than the screen turns off...
Howdy Campers!
Quick question about the proximity sensor and in call screen off. When i have this feature checked "Turn off screenduring calls" should the proximity sensor be active and turn the screen on and off if i have it up to my head??This is what the feature reports to do.
When checked the screen goes off and will not come back on (none of the buttons seem to wake the screen, only end of call will).
Any ideas??
thanks!

Do you have a screen protector on or maybe accidentally covering the proximity sensor? The phone is supposed to wake when the proximity sensor isn't covered, not when the call is ended.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
No screen protector or case
actually it looks like the proximity sensor isnt working well for anything....
besides the calls the air gestures (scrolling) stopped working.
I dont think smart stay works either....
i factory reset the phone still nothing
on the lock screen i do see the little white dot follow my hand around so not sure what to think.
any suggestions before i take this back to the store for a replacement?
So I just happened to notice that the sensor blinks on and off rapidly because I was using my webcams mirror mode and saw it flashing (invisible to the human eye). I cant help but wonder why on earth it is active while the screen is locked? Any thoughts? Or anybody actually know why?
Because it is used as a proximity sensor: the phone senses when it is in your pocket or not so it can change the ring tone volume. I think it is also used as a "mute" sensor when you lay your phone screen down on the table but I am not sure of that.
I am not sure if the sensor is working or the screen protector is making it ineffective but when I am on a call the screen doesn't blackout and I get phantom touches from my cheek and either notification panel or something else opens or it ends the call. I tried few hardware testing apps but none register hand movements over proximity sensor area! How to work out of I even have a sensor on the device?
Cheers
Maybe you accidentally turned on "Sensors Off"? I don't know your device, but mine has such an icon in quick settings.
