So i recently rooted my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III SGH-T999.
I tried out downloading custom ROMs and successfully flashed JellyBean 4.1.1
I then proceeded to dislike TouchWiz and decided to look for a ROM that would remove TouchWiz and replace it with pure Jelly Bean by the help of this thread here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778217
I decided to use CyanogenMod 10
Being the impatient person I am. I decided to copy the .zip file to my external SD card and install it from there.
I am currently on the screen where the the word "CyanogenMod" is surrounded by a blue spinning circle.
I was worried about how long this loading screen was and decided to boot ClockworkMod Recovery and use the touch screen to reset my phone and flash some other ROM.
But whenever i do this, it never goes into CWR and goes straight to the screen with the "warning" and gives you the option to choose continue or restart phone.
When i choose continue, i'm stuck on the odin mode thing.
when i choose restart, it goes straight to the cyanogenmod screen and continues to stay like that.
I am very worried about what this will do to my phone. I NEED HELP.
P.S. I know some of the terms are incorrect. Bear with me, because i'm new to this and i admit i didn't fully research how this stuff works.
your probably going to have to Odin back to stock and start the process over

Go to the development section, stickies. You will see a firmware/ota thread that has all firmware, including latest plus detailed instructions.

But you can get to download mode so it's not the end of the world worst case youll have to get access to a computer that can run Odin. have you tried going into cwr manually. while the phone is off Hold power menu and volume up then when you feel it vibrate let go of only power.

but every time i do that. it doesn't work.
For recovery try from power off,
Hold volume up, home, power.
When you see blue text flash at top of screen let go all buttons.
If your on mac, theres a tool called heimdal that I know nothing about!
Your best friend in this case would be Mobile Odin Pro!!

Thank you very very much. I think i was just overreacting and freaking out. Since this is my first time rooting and everyone saying that it's very risky, i guess i have to learn things the hard way.
I will definitely do more research before i do anything else.
Thanks everyone who helped!
I'm on my phone and typing an entire set of instructions will be tough. First, you need to get to a Windows based computer. Then, go to the December section and download the all in one root .exe (I think it's the first thread). One downloaded, you'll have to install the s3 drives if you have not done so. If you have, then just proceed. You are going to flash recovery again using that tool (, it is very explanatory). Then if you have a good recovery, after that, proceed to flash cm10 again and let that sucker run. If you experience the same thing with recovery, then go to the general thread and look for the one name broken GPS fixed. Or something along those lines. You won't miss it. Then in the last post of the first page, you'll see a link to another site. Follow the instruction on the other site and you'll be back in stock.

I accidently wipe my phones internal storage including backups, Im running latest TWRP and it wont read my sd card. I have a custom rom on the sd card but i cant access via recovery. phone boots to recovery and even download mode but i dont think my usb debug is checked and i cant get thru with odin. Im crunched for time as my wife is coming home in an hour and she will be furious if i bricked my phone i need help restoring before she gets home. thanks.
Heres how I fixed the problem, it was easy after doing but confusing getting there. Since the phone would not boot past the galaxy s3 screen there was no way for me to select USB debugging. That option totally did not allow me to use the Galaxy S3 toolkit listed in android development nor could I select and run any of their lists of "Root" roms because something would happen where ODIN didnt boot it correctly. It ran it at first then "Boot" came on then "Reset" came on then "Pass" came on but nothing ever took. I went to samsung-updates.com selected the ICS factory rom and saved it to desktop. Then I unzipped that rom to unveil the TAR file and flash that via Odin and Bam it ran thru no problems. The problems I ran into earlier were links from other posts and it turned out they were either bad links or not for the phone. I actually tried one guys download link that claimed to be specifically for the T999 us version and it turned out to be for another phone all together Im just lucky that flash didnt brick my device even more. Anyways Odin was my friend it was just a matter of downloading the "Correct" rom. thanks to all that helped I appreciated you all taking the time to answer.
I would download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682. You should be able to use your PC to flash your Nandroid, although i have never done that.
It doesn't matter if USB debugging is checked if the phone is off.
when i boot to recovery it boots to manual mode anyone know what to do next?
You can flash stuff from your computer in download mode through Odin. I hate doing it myself, but will try to look it up for you

Boot to Recovery and reset factory defaults. That will fix it. It will still "stick" on that screen, but after a couple minutes, it will continue.

I booted to recovery did a factory reset but it still stayed on the samsung galaxy s3 screen for over fifteen minutes now. I even tried the rom toolbox someone suggested earlier but upon flashing a stock rom it prompts me to check usb debugging and I cant get past that screen.

Found a rom and a kernel in the development section and ran it thru odin and it still didnt take. I noticed that the rom flash thru odin only took about two minutes and not once did i see where the modem cycle was being applied. Still no luck for me. Since my phone does not boot pass the galaxy s3 screen is it possible to get the phone to mount via usb cable and copy the roms to internal storage and install via recovery?

Hey all. I could use a bit of help with this problem I've got here! I dunno what to do, I've searched with no answer!
A little while ago, I got CWM on my T-Mobile S3. Then I tried to flash roms onto it, but it wouldn't work no matter what ROM I tried, so I just decided to quit, and instead, I flashed a stock ROM back onto my device, which thankfully worked. However, this also got rid of my CWM.
Now, no matter what I do, I can't install the CWM recovery tar through Odin. It says it's passed, but then I try to boot into the Recovery menu, it just shows the Android System Recovery one, not CWM, even though Odin says it passed. Has anyone else run into this problem, or know how to deal with it?
Pull battery when it saysdone. Remember to uncheck the restart box. Put battery back in and go straight to recovery

Unbelievable, it worked! I've been having this problem for weeks, and you managed to solve it so quickly! I can't thank you enough!
Ah, however, once I restart the phone and try to get into CWM again, it again goes back to the Android System Recovery. So will I have to have to use Odin every time that I want to access CWM?
Yeah i just got this phone yesterday and ran into the same problem. Until i went to the last page where they reiterated it several times lol

Flash the CWM from my signature with Odin. Reboot into recovery, then press reboot system. It should ask about stock recovery. If it doesn't, I have a zip file that will disable it.

First, look for these files and if there, delete or rename them.

Much like the others here I rooted my T-mobile galaxy s3. The root worked fine and all. Then I downloaded this font changer app (I forget the name but it required a root) I go on to select a font then I go on to reboot like it said. Then bam, my phone gets stuck on the samsung screen. I then proceeded to use odin to put the stock image back on it (I think that's what it's called) It went through. I also did the factory wipe via the recovery screen. But now my phone would turn on, show "Samsung Galaxy S3," go to a black screen, play the t-mobile jingle, and the only thing that happens is the LED flashes but still nothing on the screen. I've tried virtually everything and I still think there is something else I need to do.
Help please?
I had a similar problem, this is what I did. Try and boot into cwr by hilding the vol up +power+home when it vibrates let go. Now u should b in cwr. Now wipe everything, dalvic, factory wipe fix permission. And flash a new rom cm10 will do..

The problem is that he may be rooted but doesn't have cwm recovery.
If that's the case then you need to flash cwm recovery first.
I would also try flashing stock rom again or after flashing cwr download nandroid backup of stock rom.
Good luck and let us know if that worked

That sounds like a reasonable solution. Can I get a link to the CWM recovery file as well as a guide to it so I don't dig myself into a deeper hole? lol
Actually if you're stock recovery, factory reset should wipe everything. Including internal sd, just so you know.
If that doesn't work it'd probably be cleaner to just odin the root66 fw. But if you prefer the other way, you can find recovery files at the top of post 2 in the fw thread. Root66 is at the top of post 1.
I still need to add a few recoveries so if you don't see one you want let me know.

Hey guys,
Was trying to root my stock T-Mobile Galaxy S3, and everything was going fine but after it rebooted from Odin, the screen stayed black, and only the blue LED was pulsing. I assume it has something to do with my phone being on 4.1.1 and the S3 toolkit not liking that. I tried to flash the stock Rom to get it out of this, but now the same thing is still happening. I have tried multiple cache wipes/factory resets and multiple other stock ROMs. I always without fail get the same thing Samsung splash screen/Blue pulsing LED/start up sound and black screen. I'm getting really frustrated and worried. Can anyone help?

That's actually the exact problem I just solved. You would need Odin 3.04 (well that's what I used) and you need to flash root66 like one of the previous posters here said. It recovered my phone AND rooted it. So try that and tell us what happened.

When I try the root66 it fails in odin. I used the root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA one. First, I had toolkit convert it into a .tar. Then I chose option 8 to flash a stock rom. I skipped ahead to flashing the rom and factory reset like it prompted. Then I tried to flash the .tar and it fails. ..:/. I don't know what else to do.

Actualy I don't use toolkit so I might be wrong, but I don't think you need to convert root66 to tar. Just skip the toolkit. Put your phone into download mode, open odin, connect your phone to pc and flash root66. Check root66 thread for some info about unziping it or converting to anything. All info should be in op. If there is nothing about it then flash it as it is. Make sure that you have phone drivers installed and turn off kies.
I hope it helps.

Did the same thing
I did the same thing. I used the toolkit and was distracted by my son which ended up in me skipping over areas I thought I read and missed the part about JellyBean creating soft-brick.. It did install CWM though . Low and behold, I soft-bricked my phone with the pulsing blue LED from HELL. I kept having issues flashing everything, luckily the toolkit DID install CWM for me which was of no help. When I used Odin 3.0.4 it worked flawlessly with the stock rooted t999 rom which I have attached along with Odin 3.0.4.
Here is how to fix your soft-brick with the black screen and blue LED from hell:
1.) Download files attached and EXTRACT > root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.7z AND Odin_3.0.4_Files.zip
2.) Boot into download updates screen by pressing and holding Home Button, Volume Down Button, and Power Button at same time until you boot into downloading updates screen.
3.) Plug in your phone to your pc
4.) Open Odin 3.0.4 make sure Auto Reboot and F . Reset Time are checked
5.) Click the PDA button at the right, select boot-stock-tmobile-sgh-t999
7.) Click the START button.
8.) Repeat Steps 2-4
9.) Click the PDA button at the right, select root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5
10.) Click the START button and you should see it install things you never saw before like BOOT, SYSTEM, MODEM, etc. (not in that order) at the top left where it shows installation progress (that little green rectangle)

If your stock and on eclair or froyo it can be rooted without odin. If you are on gingerbread or higher then you need odin to root. When using odin have you tried different different usb cables and mulitple usb ports?
Unistall your drivers and reinstall newest ones then before just connecting it remove the battery from it then press the buttons for download modeand insert usb cord to the phone but on a diffrent port it should find the drivers if your using Vista or Newer if it fails get newer Odin but make sure you choose the same victory.pit file i use the v3.07 odin also make sure repartition is the only one checked
If you get odin to work just odin cwm recovery then flash a rom
If odin still doesnt work use heimdall suite i cant post a link but search epic 4g cyanogen wiki it should be there under update guide it will tell you how to flash cwm using the script through command prompt you must have visual c or i think you get a mvscr.dll error or something
Then you can flash a root zip through cwm

If your stock and on eclair or froyo it can be rooted without odin. If you are on gingerbread or higher then you need odin to root. When using odin have you tried different different usb cables and mulitple usb ports?

How long did you let it sit at recovery.rfs? I would try following the instructions in this thread exactly like it says and you should be good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813. Always fun when someone is blown away by the endless capabilities of android!

Glad to hear things are working now for you Honda. I always forget about Heimdall, good call Unjustified Noob!
Use heimdall as linked above and there is a more success rate using heimdall with linux instead of windows...I recommend you install Ubuntu alongside windows in case you ever need it, it's a relatively small OS (around 700mb)

Why do I have root and a custom rom (I was running ktoonsez kernel before i did the hard reset) when I hard-reseted my phone?
I'm trying to make my phone like it came out of the box.
With no root or anything. With the original kernel and stuff.
How do I do that?
I don't think hard reset can make your phone look like out of box.You have to flash stock rom with Odin to return to stock.

It looks complicated, I'll see if I need to do it tomorrow because I reset my phone because I was experiencing an issue,
Is there a thread made for the S4 to revert to complete stock? I know I saw one in Android Development, but it said "fix soft brick" or something like that
This thread in the stickies shows how to unroot and how to use odin.

so this is the thread I need to be looking at?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628
yep is too easy if you read and if you have a doubt read again, follow these steps...good luck
a hard reset does a factory reset too if i'm not mistaken which only wipes /data /cache and dalvik. doesn't touch system or boot which is where the rom and kernel are, respectively. therefore doesnt get rid of root

It is so... not hard, its easier then buttering toast, if you can adjust the sound volume on a pc or navigate a standard windows xp/7 o.s , you can odin a tar file to a galaxy phone .. it takes literally 5 min from dload file time / to flashing finished.
In fact you have the easiest phone to deal with be  thankful not a motorola or htc.

Puting a galaxy any galaxy back to stock requires what wr call removing root and more importantly getting stock 3e recovery back. Its only done by flashing the stock out of the box firmware, otherwise known as a tar.md5 file.
You search in GOOGLE,for
"M919 uvuamdl stock tar. "
Dload it to computer then extract file to desktop or a folder
Next Download odin and open odin,
Connect phone to usb cable to the computer. You will see in odin top left corner a com port when your phones recognized the port will be yellow and say com with a # like com8 for example.
Select pda in Odin, it will direct you to the folder you put the tar file in and select open.
Then click start in Odin. When its done itlll say reset/pass .flashing takes 3-10 minutes on average the s4 takes little longer than older galaxy's used to.
Your all done Back to as STOCK AS YOU CAN GET
