Hi Guys! I'm on CM10 Nightly's kernel, and as you know it is set to max frequencies on all 4 cores, which causes crazy battery drain. I change CPU frequency manually but as soon as the phone gets rebooted it gets back to max. I tried to change performance settings and using some apps - didn't work. Any ideas how can I make CPU frequency stick to the one I pick? Maybe I should try another kernel?Thanx

I would recommend that you download SetCPU application from Play Store and play with it a little bit. But be careful, you could mess things using it.
I would start using a non nightly kernel. Nightly kernels could have bugs that could damage your device. My guess is that CPU frequency reset was put into the kernel for safety reasons.

I am on nightly (seadersn edition) and checking apply settings on boot works fine with min and max frequencies. Also nobody has complained in the official cm10 thread. Try re flashing your kernel. And fastboot erase cache afterwards.
"No Frils" or "System tuner" apps will keep the frequencies for you

OP, I'm having the same problem as you - CM10, latest nightly. I'm really worried that it running at max CPU frequency will damage my phone. Have you managed to find a solution? I'm a complete noob at all this, and can't quite figure out how to install a new kernal. Thanks dude

I have htc wildfire s ...i hav rooted ...i want to overclock it 806 mhz.....pls tell me the procedure to overclock..
I am using htc wildfire rom ..pls help
First you need a kernel that supports overclocking.
If you using a stock Rom then look for the kernel that matches your Android version eg. 2.3.3 or 2.3.5 you will find them in the development section posted by Jikantaru
If you install a custom Rom then it will most likely have an overclockable kernel baked in.
To change clock settings I recommend 'no frills CPU' search it in the market or you could use set CPU.
Once you install one of the above apps then change the min and max sliders to the desired frequency.
if we over clock it much does it effect the speed or hardware of the phone?
Your phone may hang.
There is SetCPU for XDA members:

You will definitely get better performance and it shouldn't cause you any problems.
Use no frills CPU I find its better than set CPU, when restarting your phone set CPU doesn't keep your overclock settings even though its set on boot.
As for the govonor settings I would choose smartass2 and noop for the scheduler.
I would keep the minimum frequency on 245MHz it can go lower but it could cause some issues (lag and slow unlocking and waking)
Note: not all cpu's are capable of running at the same speed, I'm lucky mine can run at 806MHz but some people have issues.
If you notice any problems like freezing etc, then drop the speed to a lower frequency until you find the sweet spot for your CPU.
I had mine at 806 MHz with no problems

so it wont cause hardware problems only lagging and other stuff

Should be fine mate.
But remember if in the very unlikely event something does go wrong I wont be held responsible.
youll have to need an overclock kernel for that. (and a rom which supports one)
go for dust kernel or cake kernel! These two are well known for high end kernels!
Hi, this problem appeared just recently. My arc S processor has continually been staying at the maximum clock speed (806 MHz in my case). Past few months it was OC-ed to 1.6 GHz until a few weeks ago. I left it at 806 MHz after that and never touched it.
I'm on MiUI 2.9.28 JB with FXP138 kernel, and I was using it normally (whatsapp, twitter, texts, xda and some youtube). Is it possible that my processor has been damaged, or is it ROM/kernel related?

I Suggest trying another kernel first.
Change your cpu governor..i suggest smartass v2 and stay away from ondemand and performance
I use interactive. I've been using interactive ever since I rooted. I've tried other governors, all of them give me maximum or near maximum clock speed except for power save which gets stuck at minimum.
I'll try flashing lupus, report back later.
EDIT: am on lupus now with similar results. Same governor. 122min 768max

Can't you get a full backup with ROM Toolbox, and try installing a new rom ?? with a total clean installation
Just to try to figure out is it the rom or the processor itself.

Install the stock ROM and see, more than likely a ROM issue.

This is the topic at hand .... not that after a period of use the lg nitro hd p930 is heated in an incredible
way and this caused the system is damaged and the wifi did not work because of this I had to unbrick the phone to
install them other rom that doing ics hard reset on stock 4.0.4 att ... but I just realized I still doing the same in other
rom and you do not and I hope that someone knows about this and can give me an answer.
Note: this step after aver played Turbo Racing League now all I installed rom without playing is heated and the wifi is
going to turn off and remove and replace the battery
excuse my bad English use google translator
Try to change frequency. Standart is about 1500mhz and you should decrease it to 1200 or less. Use set cpu or cpu master (free in google play).

No Frills CPU is also free and available from the Play store. I use SmartassV2 and Deadline in the cpu settings.

thanks for the info ... I cofigurado yesterday with the minimum frequency to 460Mhz and 1000Mhz the Maxima using the SetCPU program ... My concern is that if this resolves the wifi is not active due to heating after that I have to wait for the restart and pull the battery to get it working again ..
If you have further information about the settings they are appreciate ... I'm using the Rom Avatar
You could try installing an ICS rom to see if wifi works. If it does, then you know it's the current rom that is causing the problem.
I have tried a few roms and never had the heating or wifi issue.
not that the wifi does not work is that when heated or I'm using and gives the restart issue is not working anymore for some time
Not sure but maybe there is something wrong with your phone or the battery. Does the battery heat up when connected to a charger and sitting ilde? Does it heat up just sitting idle and not connected to a charger?
This is happening with regularities in these devices and as I see on forum ... is when I'm using a heavy application at first but after was more consistent than using normal applications gives Random restart
I think I read one or two posts from people that had hot batteries but that was due to the person using a custom rom.
I started using my P930 after not using it for many months because I was using a different phone. I loaded CM10 because it seems to give me the best battery life so far. I'll know more when I start using the phone more regularly.

In my reason I have determined that the problem seems to be hardware that is not heating the battery but processors am using Avatar Rom Android version 4.2.2 based on CM10 ...using wind kerner 2.5...And as I have read it is the cpu frequencies...download an app to adjust the frequencies at the same level...commented after what results
I am currently using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2306650 , but i doubt its the rom fault.
Using the MIUI settings, Antutu CPU master, or ROM ToolBox, applying a lower CPU max freq will not stick.
Ex: The max is 1890mhz, but i want it at 1566mhz for the max. After turning the phone off and on, the max CPU freq. goes back to the original 1890mhz. With a reboot, it sticks, half the time.
What do i do? Please reply ASAP, my S4 gets hot while playing games so i like to underclock it.
With many years of experience, the best thing I can tell you is to not place a MHz cap that is too high. Your phone can potentially be a potato if you're not careful.

SetCPU has different profiles to configure. And which ROM are you on? There might be an init.d script adjusting the frequencies. SetCPU will apply them AFTER any init.d scripts are ran so that should fix it. I loved SetCPU till ktoonsez made his own app.

the rom i am on is in the first post.
How do i check the script if it is?
Meh, till i figure that out, time to use SetCPU. I MUCH prefer Antutu Cpu Master Pro, a profile for overheating? Hell yes, i set mine to 1.2ghz at 105 degrees F. and 1.5/1.6ghz when its normal. Helped ALOT

Oh darn. It worked for a bit. Now instead of going back to normal max frequency after a reboot or boot up, it does it when I'm using the phone.
Does PAC ROM have this issue? If not, I'll use pac rom instead. Or it may be a kernel problem? Idk much about android stuff

Sounds like the kernel is overriding certain things in different scenarios. I'd try a different kernel.
I touched some no frills cpu control settings and now my benchmark results are about 19000-22000 and it used to be like 24000 i tried changing the rom and all that stuff if someone can give me the stock governator and all frequencys and that stuff it would be helpful.. Thanks i need help i dont know what to do
Now i cant do any better than 23000

Firstly, I assume by the size score that you are using Antutututu. If so then you always get variance in the scores, and yes it can be 4k difference.
Next, I'm gonna bet that you are seeing thermal throttling, where the device is turning off 2 of the cores due to heat.
I've only noticed this behaviour recently myself. It's a real pain in the arse. I've downloaded trinity kernel app to get around the problem. In his app you can turn off thermal throttling and force the two other Cores to stay on.
This isn't a permanent fix though as the settings don't want to stick for some reason that is beyond me.
Next, is there no reset to default in no frills cpu app ?
Or you can uninstall no frills and make sure you delete any folders off your sd card, then either reflash your rom or you could even flash AICP kernel.
This should get you back to default.
Finally if you still think it's your settings, you could tell us all the settings you have changed and between the guys on the forum we could tell you what to change back to.
All the best rich
**just had a quick look at no frills on play Store. Looks like there's not loads to alter.
I like interactive governer and row scheduler (as we can't get row I use deadline.)
Min frequency wants to be at 384 and max at 1728.
That's the basics.
