Are you rooting your device yet? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Will that interfere with any updates from at&t? Dare I say I might not root for now and leave as is.

i'm not rooting til there is a reason too... so far, there isn't

Same here, I just wanted to freeze out the att ****ware.

I'm going to hold off until tar hits.
hopefully that comes soon like it did on Sprints

I also would want to freeze the bloatware but does rooting the device interfere with updates from at&t for the multiview update? I usually immediately root/unlock bootloader and custom rom my new device. Never actually wanted to run stock like I do now due to the sgn2 features, including the s-pen.

I would assume that as long as you're using the stock rom then ota should still be available; but once you run ota you will probably have to re-root and also hope they don't patch whatever root methods we have currently.

I think I'm going to root soon so that I can play my NOVA3 with my PS3 controller... HDMI on the big screen using my Note 2 as a gaming system... You got to love it.

I plan to wait. Not having the stock TAR and a clear path to true stock has me going at it slowly. Having come from a zombie HP touchpad with CM9... I miss my root toys and tools.

As long as your on stock ROM, then yes you can still receive otas from Google...or Sprint.
No you will not loose root buy you may have to reflash super user ( which is essentially loosing but very easy to attain again)

Odds are it's the full system wipe, which is like a super Factory Data Reset, that is the source of your better feeling GNex. Factory Data Resets cure a lot of ills.
So if anyone ever wants to know what is means by "placebo effect" there you go....
Rooting on it's own will not do anything to speed up the phone. It only allows superuser access privilege to you or apps you allow. This you should probably question and better have a good reason for.
Wiping the phone as a consequence of unlocking the bootloader may do that temporarily.

You probably won't be able to apply the OTAs properly. You'll have to flash them manually with fastboot.

Rooted stock here - OTA's apply fine, but you do have to re-root after getting them. I went from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 a few hours ago.

Why not just flash the update in stock recovery? You can use ota rootkeeper to protect root.
Also the pro version of mobile odin will flash any of the full fw releases as well as the otas, and it'll reinject root during the process. (Its now my preferred method)
Most people arent going to want to give you their nandroid. theres too much personal info on it. Even those like me who make one right after flashing will be very cautious about this. Theres almost always something in there that is easily forgotten to clear. You could get lucky and find someone willing to do it, just dont get your hopes up too much.

Hey doc got some questions for ya. I came to the gs3 from nexus s 4g. With the ns4g I could always just flash new ROMs and updates in cwm. It seems the process is a bit more complicated on gs3. I purchased mobile Odin, and I've used the PC version a couple of times, but I'm not that comfortable with it. First day I got my gs3 I flashed Mr. Robinson's root injected uvlah2 and just stuck with that. A couple nights ago I finally flashed a new radio and it has helped my signal. I want to make sure my phone is ready for the jb update so what would you suggest?

Unless you really want to use Google wallet I'd say just wait. Some users are complaining faster battery drain and minor glitches. For me battery seems the same or better and only glitch was the Swype keyboard that got fixed with a reboot. Other than that if your phone is fine then just wait it out. Oh and they took away the ability to force roam without rooting. Some people on sprint need that where they live. So keep that in mind.

(Q) Has anyone gotten the AT&T 4.3 update?

While browsing Samsungs website I happened to click on our Note 2 model i317 and under OS it says 4.3, my question is has been released already? Ive been testing the international 4.3 builds, I would love to test an official rooted deoxed version. I found the info here... http://m.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I317ZWAATT#specs

I haven't heard anything, This probably means that because Samsung gave At&t the update that it's just waiting for them to push it to us. Should be really soon, sprint already has theirs and I read that T-Mobilw just got theirs out
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Sprint's update is out, T-Mobile's is out, US Cellular's is out, Verizon's dropped today and we wait. Funny that AT&T was supposed to one of the earliest updates on the leaked list but we still wait. I just want it to get into the hands of the TW ROM teams, Ditto Note, Sky Note and Jedi so I can see what they do with it.
Yeah, my contract is up in January and I don't think I'm going to stick with AT&T. It seems like they really don't update their phones if they don't absolutely have to. =/
Thank God I am not with At&t and I am pretty sure this note will be the last phone I get that is At&t branded phone with how they are locking up their phones

I don't think that the update will be far behind the other carriers. At&t always waits till the last possible moment for anything. My guess is that it wont be an OTA but thru Kies which will suck cause my CPU just crashed on me the other day

Well as far as I can tell they're already the last carrier to push the update. The only question now is "WHEN?" (if ever, heh...)
As for Kies, I highly doubt it. Every other update was always OTA. Kies is just a convenience factor.

Screw Knox and the increasing DRM crap Samsung forces on consumers.
I love my note 2 but I think from now on ile just stick to nexus device. I bought this phone based on the screen size really. All I want is a stable kit Kat cm or cm based ROM which seems unlikely at this point.

Galaxy Gear only works, so far as I know, with unrooted stock (yuck) touchwiz ROMs on select devices of Samsung's arbitrary choice. You're better served both now and later with not spending the $200+USD on Samsung locked hardware.
