I know I'm gonna get sh*t for asking this. I've already been thru all the rooting threads but they are all confusing me. I'm new to the phone and love it, I'm a big texter and it runs my battery down pretty quick I have to take my charger to work with me or it wouldn't last me. I'm with AT&T and came over from Tmobile and had the G2x which I had rooted. All the Threads here for rooting confuses me. Could someone explain it alittle different please for AT&T I don't want to brick my phone. Rooting my G2x was real easy this seem alot harder

The method to root the phone will get easier as more people work on it(Once CWM works, etc) so just wait until then if you can't follow the current instructions.
For the Glide right now the only method of rooting is flashing a rooted ROM. There is no 'one click' root method where your current stuff is preserved like other phones may have. I'm waiting for such a root method, no rush since my wife uses the Glide and is happy with everything stock.

I kinda felt the same way coming from HTC phones. The threads here can keep me reading for hours, i rooted Vibrant and a Captivate and i was lost the entire way.
once the rooted AT&T ROM was posted, it took just a matter of minutes, and most of that was just downloading the files needed.
Follow the instructions posted or watch the video on how to do it, and once your done, you'll love it. Then, if you like, go to the app store and download "superuser" and "titanium backup" (free versions will work for now, but paying for them is really the way to go)
And before you know it, custom ROMs will here, and then the real fun starts!
I just got the Galaxy S3 I747M on Friday, from Rogers.
I feel like I am seeing colour for the first time, after being shackled to an iPhone 4 and the restraints of the Apple "universe".
I was a heavy jailbreaker/customizer and want to continue on this phone. But I have no idea where to start. So many custom ROMs and what looks like 3-4 things I have to do/install before actually installing a ROM. Is there a comprehensive explanation of what needs to be done and why?
Also, any general tips/must have apps for Android? I find this phone's battery life is not stellar, but have read on here that there is a ROM that seems to help with that.

welcome...
i have only been a heavy Android user since December, but there are some good reference guides in the sticky under this form and under the old North American S3 Forum...(http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1667)
make sure u follow the rooting process that does not trip the flash counter... if u do, then no worries cause there is an app (Triangle Away) that works to reset the flash counter..
you can always go back to Unrooted stock by downloading the stock ROM's
I am on Rogers as well and i am using the KyanROM 1.2.. and it;s pretty solid.. i get pretty good battery life and using Faux123's Kernel along with it to over clock it makes it even sweeter..
there is a sticky found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728824) that gives u a pretty good guide on what to do from start to Rooted happiness...
have fun!
I haven't had any problems with battery life and I just rooted mine 1 hour ago I've had it since Thursday. There is a sticky that gives you detailed step by step root instructions.

Research research research. Make sure to research how to unbrick the phone especially so you won't be panicked if you manage to softbrick your device.

The best thing about Android is that you dont have to root or ROM to do everything that you needed to Jailbreak your iPhone to do. Does that make sense?
I have only rooted my S3 so far to get the ability to apply a few tweaks but I dont plan on ROMing it anytime soon. Runs like a champ.
I am also a new user to the android world, and though my experience I got to say do your research and back up everything.

Was a great guide for me to flash a rooted stock rom, very simple process just need to be careful, and how to install clockworkmod recovery.
As for apps, i love my titanium backup and is worth every penny especially if you start to try different roms. One thing is if your move across different rom types most of the time you will need to wipe your data, probably the safest thing to do anyways based on my research. I got stuck in the boot screen and only way for me at that time to fix was to wipe my data.
Folks, I'm coming off an N7000 and before that a Nokia N900, so I'm no stranger to rooting and roms and the like... here's my issue/questions
I am looking for a simple root in order to get TB working so I can get rid of this AT&T bloatware. Had the phone for a day and no need for roms yet (I'm just blown away by the quad core on this beast)...
Last week I decided to root my N7000 and this was amazingly helpful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923861
So is there a similar .zip I can locate that will just grant me root access?
This is on/for an SGH-l317 on 4.1.2 with ..CALK7
I appreciate any guidance. Not much time to do as much surfing as I used to, taking care of my 2 month old!!
Look for a thread that talks about ExynosAbuse. You'll be rooted within seconds after installing it.
actually "full rooting" only takes about 30 seconds, so if you know how to use odin, and know how to get the phone into download mode, its super easy...

Hey guys and girls just joined the site been looking around and reading alot of interesting things.
Like the title says im running 4.1.2 but i hear there might be a release of 4.2 coming the 20th?
I'm wanting to root my phone and join the club. I'm pretty much a newb when it come to this I want to make sure i do everything right when i start the process i'm a truck driver so my phone is a important part of my day to day activity and cant end up bricking my phone.
Ive been looking at youtube vids and reading comments some people having problems and some doing just fine.
Could someone recommend a link one with a video to show the process that would be great, should i wait for a over the air update to 4.2
Sprint won't be going to 4.2 . They are bypassing and the upcoming update will be 4.3. I would wate until the update comes out before you root. That way the roms and rooters will be able to be written and hou can have all the perks of an official 4.3
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Note II on Tapatalk Pro.
I disagree. I would root now. It's possible with any OTA update, it could secure the root exploit. And nothing has been really said when any update is coming. Could be a couple weeks or a couple months.
And if you're rooted already, you'll only need to wait a day or two before someone uploads a rooted version of the update to flash.
Plus, if you fubar something, it's likely already been done and you'll be able to find a fix.
And if you do depend on your phone, it's hard to say what things may get borked with the update. So by waiting those few days for the updated rom, you'll find out what is not working and can decide if updating is right for you. Sometimes updates will bork things like GPS.
Personally, I don't see anything you really gain by waiting.

Ditto on rooting before an update. Get root before the Knox **** hits your phone and your warranty is permanently b0rked. Once 4.3 and Knox is on your phone, if you ever root there's chance in hell of ever claiming on your warranty. More likely than not.

What happened with the link being removed for the toolkit download? I watched the video on post #4 seems to be easiest way to do this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
Is this still a good option for rooting the phone?
Any ideas?
Just got my 4.1.2 note today. Within an hour after bringing it home I found the old toolkit I rooted with my other note before I traded it. Why wait

Not wanting to wait just want an instruction how to I'm a trucker with a lap top and never have Wi-Fi unless I'm at McDonald's so I don't get to check and download what I'm needing to.
Is there thread that suggests what to do first with a new stock Note 4?
Root first?
Popular ROM?
Thanks
If you have the Verizon Note 4 you are stuck with stock as the boot loader is locked and no root exploit has been developed.

There's a thread called 'Desktop Setup' a little further down the main screen of the forum. I only took a brief glance, but it looks like it's other Note 4 owners showing how they have their phones setup. I just mainly setup mine to reflect how I had my S4 set. Unfortunately, though, the last post before mine is correct in saying root hasn't been achieved for this device yet. However, if you're looking to be able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, you can purchase the full version of FoxFi for $7.95, or try the free version to see how you like it. The free one limits you to 5 megs per use, I think, before it disconnects you. I'm using the full version of the app to tether to my desktop right now, and it works pretty well. You can't turn it on with one tap like you can a rooted phone's hotspot, but you can turn off that way once you're done. The app lets me provide Wi-Fi for my XBox One, Tab 3 8.0, and Fire TV, too. Even though I can't root my phone yet, I still enjoy using it. Hope this helps, and sorry I rambled on a bit.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm itching to give it a shot. I already downloaded the root file, but probably won't touch it til after this weekend, and the fact I got my phone set up the way I like it. I know this isn't the right thread, but before I make the decision to try this can anyone confirm that FoxFi works on 5.0.1? I'm currently on 4.4.4 and don't want to jump forward if it doesn't, since I need the hotspot. I know I can roll back to KitKat, but I'd lose all my stuff

Cool. The build in the post pointing to a possible root is showing 'Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V VZWVerizon wireless N910VVRU2BOF1 5.0.1', which has me somewhat hopeful, with a side of skepticism. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for any updates, hopefully good ones.
The file for root at the bottom says "Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V" but has smn910f (SM-N910F (Europe)) in the file name for the zip.
Please tell me you guys are not serious???? Look at the date this crap was posted 7th July. Do you honestly think no one has tried it yet and come on the forums to scream about it. Very dodgy looking site also.
Take it easy, no point in getting worked up about it. We're all just looking for ANY glimmer of a lead for root.

And how is a 5 month old post a glimmer of hope. Most People on this forum have had their note 4s for a long long time and have been following and hoping for the one post that will spring up "That root has been achieved" it doesn't help with you posting the same thing in 3 different threads about some rubbish that has been posted 5 months ago from a website that looks like it was thrown together the same day they posted the root instructions. If anything comes up it will be posted on XDA almost immediately I can guarantee it.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh but everyone on here has been waiting a long time I see your only new to this and also had a chance to return.
The problem is No one appears to be working on anything, you only have to look at the thread "Lets talk root" I don't see any one talking about how root may be obtained and I include myself in that. What needs to happen is for this Note 4 community to start posting ideas in that thread or start a bloody new one. I am willing to use my phone as a guiney pig but come on people lets start talking about how we may obtain root and start experimenting. I will flash anything any one wants to my phone so lets take it over to the "Lets talk Root" forum.
Rant Over
Believe me, I understand your frustration as I've rooted every Android device I've had, till now of course. If we get, we get it. If not, oh well. I have more important things to concern myself with than whether I can root my phone or not. I'm sure the person who originally posted the link was only trying to help and not cause any tension. I wish I could root this thing, but get grip, it's still just a phone.
