Yes, thats my case. I want to go back to CM10 and AOKP roms. There are not many good roms who support the 1.31 hboot yet.
I tryied the PA rom based on cm10, dosnt work with hboot 1.31. The only roms who works are Android revolutions hd, cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri with working gps, wifi.
i dont want stock sense rom, i want a good custom rom, clean rom.
Is there a way to do this with s-off? Any guides who may work on htc one x?
Super thanks!

you simply can't... no S-OFF no downgrade... S-OFF is not possible for now
Because my phone is f*cked up, maybe I'll try to downgrade to H-BOOT 0.95 soon. And what happened? The screen is not pretty much of the time, sometimes it doesn't work, only softbuttons are light up.
THERE IS A WAY TO INSTALL EVERY AOSP Rom available there
at CyanogenMOD 10 "SE" you will havw link for a kernel to run CM10-SE , you can use this kernel for ever AOSP out there to make it run on your HTC One X , you need to follow these steps
1- Flash any AOSP from from Recovery as usual after wiping for sure
2- Dont reboot and use that provided kernel and flash it also inside recovery
3- Reboot into bootloader FastBoot and flash the boot.img inside there kernel as its called "boot_1.23_1.28_hboot_v1.0 " you can rename it as boot.img for easier installing as that for newer hboots and its compaitable with CM10-SE kernel which at this point compaitable with the kernel you have just flashed
but as it indicated it dosent have a functional GPS
with these steps I have been able to try all AOSP Roms
If you need to get the GPS running you may like to try the same above steps using TripNRaVeR flashable kernel zip
I hope that would help you

but since they have managed to find the way to get the gps back for the new hboots at TripNRaVeR Kernel ,im sure it will be available also for other kernels in anytime soon , , so let us wait and cross our fingers here , lucky me I have never needed the GPS here at my country
Well.. we all who have the 1.31 hboot needs to wait for a good performance and batterylife rom.
I really love vanilla rom = With out sense !
I dont know why but on the CM10 or AOKP roms all games working smoothless, buttersmooth! But with all sense roms, you get framedrops and sometimes slow. Why? i dont know why, even with jelly bean sense roms.
That is the diffrence of sense roms and CM10 graficperformance? Are there a way to go for another kernel on jellybean sense rom?
Thanks, hope for a good answer
I have the same problem, i flashed the Renovate rom and used the remove sense launcher and install themed framwork option to get rid of rosie and the ugly notification center... I use it in combination with Nova Launcher, and i must say, i like it!
You still have the default sense apps like music, mail etc, but i prefer them above the aosp variants so thats no problem for me

I just got my desire HD a few days ago. But have been visiting this site from some time back. Now i wanna load a custom mod on my phone. However there are several questions which i am stuck at. :|
1) What is the difference between the "Android Revolution HD 3.2 mod[ARHD]" and "Cynagenmod"?
2)Is rooting required? If yes, could anyone help me how to please.
3)In the Themes and Apps section i seen that many themes had the [CM7] tag. Im assuming this is for the cyanogenmod, but will it work on the "ARHD" also?
4)Most of the mods installation asks for S-off or so. What is it? :
5)What is flashing?
and lastly
6)Whats the difference between Sense UI and no-sense UI? [im thinking it includes/excludes the default htc sense.]
As i am new at these things too, i will try to answer some of your questions.
1. Cyanogenmod is based on AOST source, which is main android source, while Revolution, LeeDrOID and rest are based on HTC source.
2. To be able to flash cooked ROM your Desire HD needs to be rooted.
Full step-by-step guide is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
3. Themes for one ROM might work on other, but are not recommended.
4. Check the guide in point 2.
5. Same as above.
6. I think you got that right.
I hope i helped you a bit.Cheers

Some of the mods are made specificaly for a ROM. The tag describes what ROM they are designed for. Rooting and S-OFF is requred for installation of a custom ROM, so yes, it's required for the mods also. You should probably ask the mod developer if his mod is compatable with another ROM, but I think CM7 being Gingerbread and ARHD3.2 being Froyo, the chances are slim. S-OFF is "Security OFF". HTC introduced a level of security which was supposed to make the system "read only" for anyone but them to prevent custom ROMs, kernels and ultimately - overclocking, which potentialy can damage your device. Luckily thy didn't do a good job on that, so the developers found a workaround. Flashing is writing a new ROM, kernel or a set of system files in your phone. And lastly, you are correct about the sense/non-sense stuff.
You can find good guides in the developement section about rooting, S-OFF (both radio and eng), flashing ROMs, etc. Bear in mind though that if your software version is 1.72, you'll have to downgrade first to get to the rootable 1.32
First of all thanks for the help.

Custom Roms are there to help and inprove the things...
Overclocking is running an hardware to something which it was not designed for...So it could harm the phone (Does not mean that it always does, there are guys who are running the overclock phone without problem).
Custom Roms are just the installed ROM so if you flash one rom and don't like it replace it with another one..before flashing read the instruction and flash (I was only able to run official rom for 2 hours, after that I rooted and installed CM7...
@sanju.
so there wouldnt be any problems right? and which would you suggest.
Revolution or CM7 ?
Also the warranty gets void if im not wrong but is there any way to counter it like in the case of apple devices?
Yes you can revert your handset back to complete factory settings by running a suitable RUU (Rom Update Utility).
This will restore everything, except Radio S-OFF, back to HTC defaults. You could then send your handset away to be repaired, etc...

Rom depends on your choice, Revolution is based on HTC framework (sense and no-sense both available), 3.2 is froyo based, 4.X is gingerbread but its in beta..YOu will get the stock applications like video player, camera etc..
CM7 is also under development, RC2 is stable version, It is based on AOSP GingerBread...has a lot of modifications....I use this one....Just my preferance...
You can try both and see which one you like...
About warrenty, yes, you need to restore the RUU to claim it, but there are enough thread around which will tell you how to do that...
The only thing is I haven't seen the RUU for India, there is one for Asia and version number is close so that can work...in case it is required, or...before flashing custom rom create a backup for your official rom and save that backup...so that you can use that to come back to official rom...
Oh but i checked and seen that in CM7 the things like gps and google maps don't work .

Not all custom roms require S-OFF btw... I would root your phone, once you have custom recovery you can flash your custom rom
get familiar with adb and just read read read .... plenty of guides out there
I would S-OFF after you are familiar with everything else... messing around with partition tables is a easy way to brick your phone... you can always S-OFF at a later date (just my personal view - alot of people S-OFF very quickly - depends how badly you want additional mods)

Some people have had trouble with the gps lock on CM7, not all, as I for one haven't got any problems with neither of the RCs nor the nightlys. I'm running nightly build 20 atm. And there is a fix for the gps included in the latest two nightlys so it's not a problem anymore.

No, overclocking to a reasonable extend should not harm your phone. I'm running an overclocked kernel (1.2 GHz) and it has no negative effect on my phone. In the manufacturing process there are deviations from the design and Qualcomm has rated the processor which is in our DHDs to 1GHz. This means that most processors can safely handle higher frequencies, but the higher they rate their production, more units will have to be scrapped. I think it's quite safe to go for 1.2 or even 1.5 (if you really need it and monitor the teperature closely) but I would never run on 1.8 GHz. I just wanted to explain why HTC decided to go for locked internal memory. There is a reason for that, not just because they are mean control freaks... oh wait those were Apple .

I didn't know that you can install a custom recovery without S-OFF. Or a custom ROM without a custom recovery. Anyway there are many users which followed the guide in the developement section (including me) and did just fine (thanks to the great tools made by jkoljo and all the help we get in this great forum). Ultimately is anyone's decision what to do with his/her own phone.
I'm gonna s-off this weekend after I've fixed my custom recovery

Guess u guys are confusing between Radio S-Off and Eng-S-OFF.
You can't install a custom recovery without Eng-SOFF, hence u can't install custom Roms.
There is a one click S-Off for Eng-Soff & Radio S-OFf which u can find in Dev Section.
This should do the work quickly and in a painless way...
Personally i would recommend to go for MIUI or CM7...
All your questions have been answered clearly.
Just one warning regarding the warranty. It's possible to revert to stock EXCEPT if one hard key is needed and it doesn't work.
If on DHD all can be done via adb then it's ok (never checked).
I'm just coming from HD2 and without vol- key you were fu**ed (can't launch the bootloader but OS bootable).
Anyway never stopped me to install custom roms the first day
Hi all,
So I have a little problem, let me explain:
I have an HTC One X Tegra 3 version (no simlock orso) unlocked with HTCDev. After I unlocked my bootloader I installed OrDroidX 7.0.0, a JB rom with Sense 4+.
Before being able to install OrDroid i needed updated my firmware with JBFWTOOL11 . So all went well, HBOOT is 1.31 now and i have had my look on OrDroidX 7. I wasnt really satisfied with the performance of jellybean an Sense 4+ so i went back to ViperX.
Now I really want to try out ParanoidAndroid (JB), actually Domination is what i wanna try (combination of PA and CM and AOKP if I'm right). BUT I CANT :'(
When i used JBFWTOOL, it said
"AFTER UPGRADE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO:
-INSTALL AN OLDER HBOOT OR RUU
-INSTALL A NON-SENSE ROM"
But i didnt care whether i would be able to install a non-sense rom at the moment so i continued. Now however, i do care.
The weird thing is though, that the CM10 Endavour Unleashed DOES work...
So yeah.. Any thoughts anyone? And yes, i have seperately flashed the boot.img with fastboot flash boot boot.img
I have also tried to combine the Domination rom with other kernels but i cant get it to work... With some kernels (or boot.img , hope i'm not saying this wrong, i am no pro) it shows the boot animation and one time it booted but wifi and mobile network werent working so that was useless...
Anyone knows whats the problem and how to fix it (if possible)?
Thanks in advance!!

The "normal" AOSP kernels don't work with the new hboot.
I know CM10 has a working kernel (in the boot.img), mentioned in the first page, other ROMs may also mention a working kernel.
Depends on the ROM.

Hi Experts.
I recently got a HTC One X, it is the UK Orange version, and i live and use it in India.
android ver - 4.04
sense - 4.1
softwre no - 2.17.61.3

and with a lot of courage, i have Rooted my brand new HOX
now.. i really like to know -
1 - which stock like Rom do you experts suggest for my model ( shouldnt be much different from stock, but faster, with mods & without bloatware & Latest)
2 - should i also flash my radio? How? which one?
Any other mods that you suggest for better battery management, faster.
please .. i know that similar questns are asked, but this is more specific.
Post links, and that would suffice

I would recommend the viperX Rom to you from team venom. It's great. Probably the best Rom in the way of tweaks. Download that then do the OTA updates. I also like to recommend the bricked kernel as it has a swipe to wake option and with vipers tweaks you can easily overclock and change frequencies the best ics in my opinion

Give a try to latest insertcoin rom (13).
Furthermore if u want:
In a fileexplorer (es explorer or solid explorer) go to root folder -system-apps and delete unneeded apps with caution (u need to know what u are doing). If u want i can create a minimized version of it 4 u and upload it... (whithout medialink, htc location, video editor, stock wallpapers, without live wallpapers and all that crap - at least i like it without them). Then u'll get a perfectly sleak rom.
I tried maximus rom, venom, renovate, revolution HD...
Believe me, this one is the smoothest around...
So long story short, let me know if you want my lighter version of insertcoin.

Hi there,
lately there have been OTA updates for CID HTC__023 and TELNZ001 which brought a new base (3.17) and some troubles (touch not responding) when using old (3.14) based custom roms.
The OTA brought a hboot update including an update to the touchscreen controller and therefore it only works correctly when using the corresponding 3.17 base kernel.
As slowly various CIDs are getting OTA updates to new base with new touchscreen controller firmware, these devices will have touchscreen issues on 3.14 based roms. But this kernel will help those people out.
adamnz had the initial idea in the thread linked above to try the 3.17 kernel on a 3.14 rom, so I followed up and created a flashable zip with all neccessary modules for those who are stuck with stock HTC ROM atm.
As I am running sense based RD-MIUI, I created a MIUI compatible boot.img, too which incorporates some ramdisk tweaks as init.d-support (busybox run-parts), volume-wake-deep-sleep-fix and run shelld service to prevent MiuiHome FCs.
03.02.2013: Base 3.17.781.2 (CID TELNZ001)
Grab the flashable zip from here: endeavoru_base_3.17.781.2_kernel.zip
Thx to adamnz for providing the OTA file and yumcimil for a full nandroid backup. :highfive:
Base 3.17.728.1 (CID HTC__023)
Grab the flashable zip from here: endeavoru_base_3.17.728.1_kernel.zip
Infos on different boot images
boot.img is the fully untouched 3.17 stock kernel while boot_miui.img has some tweaks as described above.
As the tweaks in boot_miui.img should have no drawbacks when used with non-miui-rom (and users reported that the stock one does not work but the miui one does),
boot_miui.img is the prefered kernel even when not running MIUI (if you do not want to repack).
Repacking
As JB sense roms around use the HTC stock kernel, which ramdisk is quite the same compared to this kernel, you can easily repack this kernel with the one from your favourite ROM. Please use the boot.img for this instead of boot_miui.img and do not forget to flash the zip file with the modules. This way you get all the rom-specific features and tweaks the rom chef included in his ramdisk.
Installation
Make a nandroid before, flash zip from recovery, flash boot.img from within the zip via fastboot, wipe cache and reboot.
Re: [KERNEL][Base 3.17.728.1] HTC JB Stock & MIUI
Thanks for this!
Sent from my One X running Blade v4.6.0. At a mere 240 MB, with tons of AROMA Mods and tweaks, this, is what you want.
Confirmed working with ViperX 3.3.2 using boot_miui.img, on HTC__023.
Touch works
cheers
Working with insert coin 15.1.1 with vid HTC_001!!
fantastic!
Works very well with Blade v4.6.0 (de-sensed) on HTC__023. Battery drain is less than 0.5% per hour in deep sleep.

Yeah, this kernel works with all CIDs, but there are no real improvements. At least I did not notice any.
But for those with CID 023 and latest OTA update (3.17) this kernel allows them to use 3.14 based roms again. :good:

Thanks for trying this one out and reporting back. Really much appreciated.

You would need to unlock your bootloader via htcdev, flash custom recovery and then flash the kernel zip in recovery and the kernel image in bootloader with fastboot.

What CID do you have?
The offical 3.17 base update only rolled out for CID HTC_023 atm. As this update brought something new to the touchscreen controller, this 3.17 kernel is needed to run 3.14 based roms.
If you have a CID different from HTC_023 (OR did not yet installed the official 3.17 OTA), running this kernel will not change anything regarding to your problem. But of course you can try, it will not cause any harm. Just follow the instructions in OP.
EDIT: Just overread the STOCK in your post. Need to grab a cup of coffee.
But gffmac is right: Just need to mention that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your /data-Partition (userdata).

It's unlikely to fix a touchscreen problem that was present on a stock rom especially if you haven't unlocked it previously. You maybe have a hardware problem with it

Of course you need a jb compatible hboot the run this kernel.
Working fine on Venom ViperX JB 3.3.2
CID: H3G__001
HBOOT: 1.39
What's battery life using this on Viper like compared to Skydragon?
Hello guys,
i'm an owner of HTC one M8, with unlocked bootloader from htcdev but with S-ON.
I just want to go back to stock rom, because every custom rom i try has some issues (battery life mainly too short! I dont know if this is because of firmware, i
dont know how to update it or even how to see what is my one now).
But, the only guides i see are with S-OFF devices. Is this possible to to it with s-on?
Also, i would be s-off if there is a still working method, i've seen firewater one doesnt work anymore so there are no other solutions.
EDIT: at least guys, can you tell me how to check and/or update my firmware?
You post this on wrong section .. should be in Q&A ... I'm asking a mod to move this thread to Q&A
Read this thread, it is for both S-On and S-Off to get back to stock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
First thing to check is fastboot getvar all result (delete serial & imei no.) then we will know what you need to do
Try MIUI7 rom

listen you can try MIUI based rom for htc it have great battery backup compare to the other marshmallow based roms,
so you first try miui rom(4.4.4) for htc , it have some bugs like google text to speech isnt working but battery backup is awesome. rom is stable though. and you cannot rollback to stock using ruu when your device is S-ON , use sunshine for S-OFF, lol pay $25

Ok i would like to not pay lel.
THE PROBLEM in using custom roms is, i think, the firmware, because i just flashed trough fastboot the roms, without updating any firmware.
I tryed Android revolution HD and Skydragon but booth had battery problems, i mean the battery was going down too quickly also with screen off (from stats, in 6 hours i say 3 hours deep sleep, 3 hours 300 mhz cpu so it didnt "relax"!
I really want top say thanks to ckpv5 that helped me in PM's and linked me his own guide to restore to stock rom, it worked and it's all perfect! Thanks man!
Just a last question: now i have the stock htc one rom, so i'm doing OTA's. This means my firmware is automatically updated with them?
So if in future i want to install a custom rom MM based, i won't need to flash firmware?
Yes firmware is updated with the OTA .. after the latest OTA 6.12.401.4, you can install latest TWRP and install MM custom ROMs .. no need firmware update anymore
Very well, thanks mate.
for the moment i'll leave the stock rom.
I will use a MM custom rom when they will be based on official MM rom for htc one m8, and not porting from M9/A9

There have been MM based Sense custom ROMs since before the new year (Viper, Skydragon Sense, Wolla, ARHD).
S.ROM is the only A9 port.
