I want to pull a themed dialer out of a ROM and push it into my system apps. Which files are the ones I need? SecPhone.apk, SecTelephonyProvider. apk, SecFactoryPhoeTest.apk, Phoneinfo.apk, PhoneErrService.apk, Phonesky.apk, etc. Thanks for the help.

I wouldnt be surprised if you needed something else in addition to it but you'll probably wanna grab SecPhone.apk and you'll definately need SecContacts.apk. Contacts is where most of that stuff is I believe. Phonesky is the play store

Not sure if this belongs in the Dev section or here.
Anyway, attached is a screenshot of my homescreen. I am wondering how to edit the Google+ widget to give it a transparent background instead of the dark bg.
I know how to edit photos and apply a transparent bg, etc., I am just not sure how to edit the widget itself. Is it a matter of getting the .apk and extracting an image to edit? I used to edit icons for my iOS devices, so I assume this might be the same with .apk files ...
Any tips would be helpful!
Thanks!
I'd like to know too. I tried to edit the widget background for the honeycomb music app to be semi-transparent by taking the trans widget background from sense music widget.
Honeycomb music apk had a file called appwidget_bg.9.png so i renamed the one from sense to that name using 7zip, but new apk wouldnt install for me.
Not sure if any of this helps you. But I'd like to know too.
In the apk, there should be a folder called res or resources, i forget. Pretty sure relevant file is in there if I remember correctly. Good luck.

I've modded the app.
instructions:
- install the app from the market (you already have it installed so you may be able to skip this step)
- remove the widget if its on one of the screens
- use root exprlorer to copy the file I posted to the /data/app folder
- set the permissions (rw-r--r--)
- readd the widget
that worked for me.
Download the attachment
Thanks but I get force close when I try.

I thought I would try the above mod again and it still force closes. Does anyone else know how to get the google+ transparent widget? Martijua's mod is exactly what I am looking for, but for some reason it doesn't work. :-(
Thanks!
I Just had this thought in mind because I used to have a jailbroken ipod and had red instagram, it was great Instead of having to see god damn blue all the time, Same with Facebook I mean really blue is getting on my nerves if its one of the two best social media apps on the store may I ask WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE BLUE, So I was wondering if there ever was for an example: Red themed Instagram for android or black facebook color? Please I can't stand blue any other color then blue....

I've not messed with MetaMorph in quite some time, but it does exactly what you're asking for. Copy the .apk to your pc, extract it and delete everything but the images, edit the images to the theme you want, create a metamorph file for it, and apply via metamorph.
Doing so will change the apk's signature, which means you won't be able to update through the play store. Instead, make a backup with titanium backup, uninstall the app, install the latest version from the play store, and restore your data. Then reapply the metamorph (which should work across multiple builds until they change the UI) and you're set.
You can also get an apk manager to your computer to resign your apps once your done. I made transparent widgets doing this.
Could I have the link to the phone.apk inverted only not the contacts? I can't seem to find it and the ones I have tried don't work.
Phone.apk is only called upon when call is made or recieved (only handles in call screen) which is pretty much inverted already. Contacts.apk handles everything up to the point of hitting call or answer. Even the "phone" icon in your app drawer is tied in with the contacts.apk and not phone.
good day.
EDIT: Turns out that my carrier has decided that it needs three apks for the dialer res, just found my other set of resources in another contacts.apk Bloody carriers!!!
Hopefully someone can help me here.
I've been trying to edit the images for a personal theme, but I've come across a bit of a stumbling block in my Contacts.apk
The res images for the dialer in the contacts seem to not be present. I've compared to other SecContacts.apk and apparently my DcmContacts.apk (I have a docomo Note 2) doesn't have a /drawable-sw359dp-xhdpi/ that contains the images for the dialer background and such. However the dialer does have the stock touchwiz images for the dialer background and top/action bar. I cannot for the life of me find these images in any of the directories in the res folder of either my DcmContacts.apk or SecPhone_DCM.apk, I checked there just in case.
Now I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, where would the apk be pulling the res images from, would I need to edit smali or have missed something completely, another apk or the like??
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks
I post this minimal mod here though it is a very simple one, just because I think that many of us dislike the default icons of contacts that are infesting system wide secContacts.apk, IncallUi, messages, email and so on....
After flashing a touchwiz based rom, I usually replace those icons with the standard icon extracted from the stock google dialer (the gray one) which is by far more serious and not so creepy. It is obviously not difficult and does not even involve decompiling the apks, nor signing them (if they are system apps), but still it requires some time to replace the drawables inside the various apk files. I sometimes made my own VRthemes to replace such icons, but still even such way is not so easy and fast.
But I recently installed this wonderful xposed module, named resflux http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/resflux-easy-android-theming-xposed-t2790940 by WisdomSky, which has got a huge potential and allows everyone to make a dummy proof theming without decompiling anything.
The credit obviously goes to WisdomSky, I just post a link https://www.dropbox.com/s/remjjpo7qo360hr/Resflux.zip where you can find the very simple themes I made and which can be imported trough resflux.
You just have to unzip the file and save the 6 zip files inside it to the resflux folder of your phone (resflux will create such folder by itself) and later on you will able to import such themes by resflux itself.
I am using this themes with a 4.4.2 DN3 Rom, as I wrote above, but it could work even for any other rom (though it hasn't been tested) unless the apk are different.
Anyway, if my theme should not apply, in case the apks should not macth, still it would be very easy to follow the instructions in the thread by WisdomSky I linked above and to replace the drawables inside contacts, messages, email, incallui and the 2 favourite contacts widgets.
Regarding resflux, it is still in its first stages, so I saw that some mods don't get applied: i.e. I tried to theme the S5 launcher by replacing the drawer icon and the default folder icon with the one of the GEL launcher, but reflux was unable to do it. No problem, I replaced those icons by hand without using resflux
Sounds cool, do you have any screenshots?

Here it is https://www.dropbox.com/s/vrfcf6jl2mgpv3k/Screenshots_2014-08-13-02-04-34.png
It simply replaces the icons of the touchwiz with the google ones.
Great

Thanks, it is a great app. To be true, later on I themed the single apk files, but this app is very handy because it allows you to test your mod in a few minutes and to go back if you are not satisfied without any effort.

Do you mean you dislike the icons I replaced, or have you been unable to apply the mod?
