I was just wondering if anyone was going to get rid of their HOX for a GN2? I love my HOX, but for some reason that GN2 is looking really really good.
Any thoughts?

More powerful processor, more ram, stock Android with updates straight from Google, better dev scene, nicer aesthetics
The N4 is definitely another option. The only reason I'm not leaning toward it right now is because of the camera. I like the camera functionality on the HOX and I'm not sure there are apps that could replace what HTC has done with Sense. Specifically the "best shot" mode.

It's not really an LG, it's a Nexus designed and maintained by Google. LG just happen to manufacture the hardware
I'm selling my One X and getting a Lumia. I'm just not having much luck with Android as of late.
The only advantage of the Nexus I see is stock android at the moment hardware won't have much of a drastic hit on performance for day to day stuff. Games etc who knows but using it for normal stuff the HOX still performs well.
Sense is another reason, it's good and personally I prefer it over stock android. N4 not having burst mode is a bit pants as HTC have implemented this pretty well on the HOX. You lose screen estate with the on screen buttons making the screen smaller than the HOX despite same size.
I'll still probably pick one up despite what I've said above.
Oh and the SGN2 is a great bit of kit of you can handle the size.

What's wrong with the Lumia? Seems like a nice device - good camera, and a smooth OS.
Yeah, I'm thinking about it as well, a good camera with Carl Zeiss lens and WP8 OS is what rocking it.
Microsoft is deffinitly coming back with Windows 8, I'm running it on my desktop atm and it's so fast and beautifull.

I don't think I could use Windows Phone. Yeah the Nokia hardware looks fantastic, but the lack of customisation, the ****ty tiles and the below par ecosystem really put me off
Did you have a look in Windows Phone section recently....?
There's a very nice kitchen out there.
I love the live tyles and how light and fast the OS is.
It's so good designed that with a single tab or two you reach the function you need everywhere and you see every update in the tyles.

Note is a nice bit of kit and the grey version looks excellent. Borrowing my cousins device and it's great. First time I've taken this thing on the road and size is simply not that much of an issue and I've got small hands.
The speaker on this thing is probably one of the best on a mobile device a bit like the iPad speakers.
Quite tempted to get one for myself as the battery on it is on another level.
The only downside I see is an AMOLED screen some hate it some love it I don't mind it, it's better than the SGS3 screen and videos and games look lush on it.

I don't own a nexus but I considered buying that beautiful phone many times. But now I think I'm gonna get the HTC One X. What do you guys think of that phone? Any of you getting it?
It's a nice phone.....but not worth the upgrade from a Galaxy Nexus.
Tegra 3 ain't too great for starters. But luckily they have a Krait option in the One XL.
The protruding camera has poised to be a small problem also.
And it's just so damn expensive right now.
Will probably end up holding this GN till the next nexus device comes out as I just got it. Unless the SGSIII is too damn amazing to pass up.

But in all seriousness, don't think you'll find many people with the Galaxy Nexus who will dump it for a Sense device, a mere 4 months (at most) into owning the GNex. Just not that big of an upgrade, even if it was stock Android 4.

Cool I respect that. There is no doubt that the nexus is an awesome phone.
I'm not a fan of tegra 3 really, omap or qualcom preference. But the one x looks stunning. And I want HTC to sell a ton of these to get back in the game and mix things up.
Nexus always for me...
Camera is a lot better than I expected on the Nexus. Was expecting the worse, took a few snaps after updating to 4.0.4 and it's pretty good. White balance and color tones etc...are true and accurate.
In low light, there's a bit of noise but it's to be expected. Because it's 5MP can tell some shots just can't get all the detail when zoomed in and looking at the pics.
But the One X camera is a beast. The 4FPS is nuts, it's just continuous and stays in focus too for the most part. But it seems that it still isn't the best which is surprising. Just competitive with the other best camera smartphones.

Yea i'm over there looking at threads and replying and stuff.
Probably not now that I got a Galaxy Nexus. I was thinking about getting the AT&T version when it came out but I probably wont now. Doesn't seem worth it.
I might use my upgrade on an iPhone 5 or something or SGSIII depending on how the phones are.
Then sell one of them for the new Nexus in November/december
While the phone nerd in me wants the newest toys I know I would hate sense. I hear its gotten a lot better but I love plain Android. I tried miui and restored my back up 5 min later lol

I think One X is a significant upgrade:
1. cpu is almost twice as powerful
2. gpu is 2-3 times more powerful
3. camera is a LOT better accoridng to reviews
4. Display is apprantely the best on a smartphone ever. (this one may not be a very big deal for us but still a good upgrade)
5. Design is just awesome, seems a lot more robust and slim than gnexus.
When it falls short is the software. I've never owned an andorid phone other than gnexus so I don't know: do you guys think vanilla ics will be fully functional on this phone and when do you think it'd be available?
I'll try and get it when it comes to ATT

From my experience......AOSP on any other phone besides a Nexus is nice, but it just doesn't feel right. There are some small minor things here and there that just makes you want a Nexus instead so you don't have to deal with the little bugs.
It will definitely get Vanilla ICS eventually, idk how long....it looks like the One X will have a good dev community behind it. A lot of people are thinking it's one of the great phones ever lol
The CPU is better, but its literally just 2 more cores of the cortex-A9 which is what we're running also. And nothing is really utilizing it efficiently.
GPU is better but thats not hard honestly. Nvidia apparently isn't using any real new tech in it, they said it themselves somewhere. I'd wait for "Keplar" to be in it with Tegra 4 revision.
Screen is a toss up, it could be a lot better, and it might not...idk i don't have one lol. I have a feeling its nice, but idk if its a drastic improvement over SAMOLED HD.
Either way....best to know what Samsung does with SGSIII before making any decision. It might turn out like the SGSII and Sensation where SGSII just ended up smoking it. Though, the Sensation had a great dev community and definitely one of the largest outside the Nexus, and SGS series phones.

I'm usually on a one phone a year cycle with the Nexus phones, but since my GN screen is cracked I will probably jump on the SIII early summer and then sell that for the new Nexus and Jellybean at the end of the year. If the SIII comes packed with a bad ass Exynos processor then I'll definitely do this.
One thing about the nexus though, how strong is the screen? I mean it's not gorilla glass. Is it really resistant?
Definitely a great phone, i doubt ill be trading my Nexus for it though. i have convinved an iPhone user to buy it for his next upgrade so ill get to try it out

It is similar to GG in terms of scratch resistance, from personal experiences using SII and now GN. Sand seems to be the only thing that scratches it, so make sure u dont take it unprotected to the beach . it wont be as strong though, but under normal day to day conditions it should be fine, scores well in drop tests.
Honestly, it's good to be back. The One X is a fine piece of hardware. Love the camera software, love the screen. Hate the placement of the power button, but that's another story.
The completely broken multitasking on the One X drove me back to my Gnex and I'm very glad to be using it again. Seriously, it's nice when the phone just works the way it's supposed to.
Too bad HTC didn't do a little better quality control before releasing the One X, unless they intended multitasking to work that way, which is even worse.
Anyway, I was never unhappy with my Gnex and now that I have seen that the grass is not greener on the One X side, I will be sticking with it.
Oh the button placement...when will HTC learn? Also, harware buttons....EW

I heard that HTC heavily restricted the multitasking on the One X. Is that the problem why you come back?
I've only had a chance of playing around with the One X in store demo cases. I do agree with you on the screen though. It's gorgeous.
If someone could run vanilla ICS on the One X then it would be godsend.
I just ordered the nexus. Looks like I did the right choice. =)
Welcome back OP I was in the fence to get this or the Evo LTE but I like so much more AOSP that I prefer this over better screen or camera

And in the ICS age should be software buttons nit hardware anymore.

Nice to have you back on the WINNING team lol.
I've heard the one series is pretty disappointing. I played with the One S at T-Mobile the other day and I was disgusted... comparing it to my old sensation i dont see where the improvement is...
The screen sucks. Sense 4 sucks. Coolest thing about it was the recent apps window and we have that now through AOKP. Long story short I'm glad I got the gnex over any of the One series phones. I can't even believe I was considering the One X at one point... damn quad core

Welcome back comrade
The only thing I really hate about my Nexus is the damn location of the headphone jack!
Why did they decide to put it at the bottom?!! it makes sense on the ipod but NOT a massive 4.6" screen phone!
I played with one the other day and it still had that sense lag and lack of smooth functioning. That's why I bailed on HTC. It's a shame since the hardware and screen are great.
What's the limitation of multitasking? How's it different from the gnex?

But then again, I pre-ordered a Nokia 808, so anything's possible.
If I like Symbian (all over again) I'll keep the 808. If not, and I can deal with the microSIM adapter, I'll use both my GNEX and 808.
Interesting times we live in...but it's very hard to beat the GNEX for sure.

Restricted is not the word. It's completely broken. Like it kills everything you have running in the background, even streaming music. And it does not even save the states of the apps like iOS does. In its current state, it's completely unusable.
I also went through this cycle.. Despite the HTC ONE X having an amazing screen and good battery life, i still found my GN to be much better.. Non-hardware buttons FTW!
It was my first HTC, and i've got to say, I really do not like the UI. Don't mean to hate, just not for me. Also found that the UI kept re-drawing for some reason.. I used Apex Launcher and even removed all the widgets from HTC stock Sense Launcher and it kept re-drawing which was annoying.. Never happened to me on any other phones..
Ended up selling my ONE X.. and super happy with my GN still
So what was wrong with the multitasking? I haven't used one, but it seems to me that something with that much power under the hood should be better at multitasking than the GNex. Did it lag? Did it close apps so you had to start over when you jump back to them?

Would you buy it / buy it again if you had a choise?
Or you better give a chanse to Samsung/Sony/Nexus/LG/Motorolla?
Or just stay on your old device and wait untill something new arrives?
Definitely buy it again. Right now, it is still king of the market. NO ONE BEATS ITS SCREEN. and since screen is the number one biggest thing we interact and use everytime we use the phone, it is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART LOOOL.
In a whole package and a custom rom, the one x trumps any conpetitor out there as it has the best hardware foundation. GO DEVS GO

I definitely would. I always felt that Android 2.x was just not as polished feeling as iOS and I didn't enjoy it very much, but ICS finally closed the gap IMO. After that I was just waiting for some nice hardware to come out - high pixel density screen with nice colours (which pretty much barred anything AMOLED, since I've hardly ever seen one that wasn't blue tinged, which really bothers me), nice physical design, and powerful enough hardware to do everything smoothly. The One X is just about the first phone to meet all my requirements. The GNex was quite close as well though, being one of the few AMOLED devices I've seen whose screen I didn't mind, but at the time that the GNex came out I was not ready to move to a new phone yet.
In short, I love my One X. Nice upgrade from an iPhone 4. There's not too much I miss about the iPhone, and plenty of things I love about my HOX that the iPhone just did not have.

I think he's saying that you can flash everything to your hearts content but nothing the developers over at SIII will release will make you have the same screen the One X has, and this is the truth, doesn't matter if 1,000,000 developers group up to develop a ROM, the screen will stay the same .

I played it a few times. It was graphically quite impressive for a phone, but I didn't really get into the gameplay.

Worthy upgrade? Any flagship from this year is an upgrade from the GNex. On stock, it may not feel as smooth as a stock Nexus 4/5 though. Personally I don't like how the back looks like. Looks like extremely cheap frail plastic, but hey that's just looks in my eye.
I would say both Samsung and LG sucks in their own ways. LG makes horrible power buttons on the Nexus 4, Samsung for our phone has terrible everything, crappy screen, fault NAND for some, battery that goes to **** (random shut downs).

Just curious, what features do you like about the G2 that the Nexus 5 can't do?
I never liked the design of the G2. Like someone else said, the back looks ugly. And I never liked company branding on the front of the device. Verizon always does that. And I dont like custom company Android skins. I switched to T-Mobile and got myself a Nexus 5 and I love the crap out of it. lol

yes yes i know its not a nexus, it wont get the latest updates and that some say lg sucks. but the phone is pretty darn good , what do you guys think ? worthy upgrade ? im getting it tomorrow evening.

I'm considering the same upgrade. I was going to get a Nexus 5 until I saw the reviews of issues with it and a few YouTube comparisons of the two. Plus I'd have to switch carriers. Let us know of any issues with the G2 if you end up having any.
The g2 kills it over the nexus 5, if your worried about updates just flash cyanogenmod 11 on it.
I don't want to rely on CM11 to do a better job than LG. I'd stay with flagship nexus because it's a safe assurance that Ota will come unlike the abandoned Optimus series that was tragically killed by LG

"""manual focus for the camera""" <<one of the main reasons, 60 fps video recording,8+ hrs screen on time (battery life basically),13 mp camera, touch to wake (on stock),remote control ,dual camera recording-photos, etc

i love the companys finishing touches . i hate touchwhiz and the way it makes the note 3 slow compared the g2. but lg has actually worked on this device a lot i can say.

all the issues i know about the g2
1)camera is bad at night- it uses advanced noise reduction causing your photos to look like paintings (this was only at 1400 iso and above) , im a photpgraphy fan so i can jus tmanually set the iso lower than that and get excellent images ! i will post images once i get the device, ill help you don worry, this is a community and ill share almost everything i know about it

true, but soon ill be getting a job and i might not get this amount of time to do all these stuff, so i need a phone which fills my needs perfectly and for now thats the g2 battery backup of 60 hrs with 3.5 hours of screen on time ! thats HUGE ! if used continiously about 9 hours of screen on time fuking amazing

Branding isn't that bad though. At least on certain devices they look and feel almost identical when u hold it up the wrong or right way up (especially the Nexus 5) With branding, you can at least "see" your holding the phone upside down. After a while, you'll probably get used to the device after a while.
Not that I'm a fan of branding, but it at least has a purpose. US carrier branding usually looks bad though.

As for power button and touch to wake, the G2 is superior to the N5. N5 faces heavy battery drain (a few % an hour with it enabled). Seems like the panel used in the N5 is way different than the G2. If you need battery life, then the G2 is the right device for you haha. We all have different needs and preferences, this is the beauty of Android as we have choices.
enjoy your new phone dude! Nice choice :good:
PS: About Nexus 5... I had the chance to play with it for a while on a nearby shop...it felt so plastic and cheap, more like a toy than a real phone. For a sec I thought it was some kinda dummy phone but that wouldn't be possible since I was interacting with it. Gnex on my other hand seemed more like the real deal...even nexus 4... I don't know if you're getting me. Since I am a nexus fan, I would buy the damn thing (probably soon) but it is so light and plastic that it seems unreal
i got the g2 this afternoon <3 is so amazing ! lets see how it does after some usage

Yeap it feels extremely light to hold. But I have a 3.4k mAh battery replacement on my GNex, so yea haha. Any phone will feel super thin and light after using my fat and heavy phone for months.
As for plastic feel, the longer I held my friend's Nexus 5, I felt the build wasn't too bad and quite nice. Either way I'll use a case on the N5 if I get one. I never used any protection on the GNex but the N5 feels too dangerous to hold naked lul. And newer screens are worse at preventing cracks than older screens so I'll also probably get a screen protector on the N5 (but I hate screen protectors!)

true ! i agree on that note gnex and nexus 4 are still more premium feeling devices
So I have an upgrade available (currently using a Note 3) and I was wondering how people are liking this phone? I'm really struggling on what my next smartphone will be since there are so many good choices out there right now. Thanks!
It's hard to judge. I'm not familiar with the note 3, but I came from a gs4 and the g3 is worlds better. Depends on you though. But honestly if I were you I would hold out for a few weeks at least. New moto x, note 4, and end of October comes (rumored) nexus 6. All new phones come with only small changes in hardware, nothing gotta have and revolutionary. But I will say that so far I'm loving this g3. Bone stock was honestly a tad disappointing, but now I run skydragon ROM and kernel and with a few small tweaks this phone is near perfect. I wasn't a huge fan of amoled, it felt very neon and unnatural but I did love the deep blacks. Personally I'll probably never get another Samsung device again.

Check out this thread, where several others (including myself) moved from the Note 3 to the LG G3 and gave our opinions, views and takes on both.
I came from an S4 and I prefer the screen to AMOLED. Even though this phone is bigger than S4 it doesnt feel like it at all
I came from Verizon s4...and had that phone humming.... The g3 blows it away. My battery life record is over 70hrs...and I typically go 36hrs or more. I run ZoneROM and have it deflated as much as possible.

I'd really wait for the iPhone. Once they release the larger iPhone there's really not going to be a reason to be buying buggy unupdated android phones.

Except for the fact that it will still be an iPhone. Which a ton of people just don't like.

lmfao! you need to go to the iphone rom threads... oh wait... apple doesnt let you do that, my bad. Hey guess what you will get with the iphone 6 though... the same boring dated OS that they have had for years with a couple new textures and colors though.. oooooooohhhhhhhhhh. Go wait in line somewhere.
Anyway, to the OP. I have used samsung quite a lot (had an s2, s3, skiiped the 4, and a s5) and my wife has a note 3. IF you are going to use the "note" features, it might be worth considering. HOWEVER, if you dont need a stylus, this thing blows any samsung out of the water on pretty much every level. Software is better, hardware is better (mostly), the g3 is super fast, great on battery, has great ergonomics (the s5 felt more awkward to use than this).
