hello all,
I currently have the tmo sgs2. its for sale and i will be jumping on the note 2 wagon.
that being said, how do i make sure i dont loose anything? i am not super android savy, i have never rooted, but i can lean if need be.
~ need to port contact list
~ need to port text messages
~ need to port email
~ need to port apps (play store/amazon)
~ need to port pics
thanks a lot. i love my sgs2 and wish i could just stretch the screen to 5.5 and give it some more battery life!
Contacts - Should move over automatically if they are synced w/ a Google Account.
Text Messages - Use an app like SMS Backup+ to backup your texts to your gmail account. And the restore them using the same application on your new phone
Email - Assuming you use Gmail, it will sync when you sign into your Google account on your new phone.
Apps - Play Store Apps will can be downloaded again from the Play Store and Amazon App Store on your new phone. They are tied to your Google Account.
Pics - If they are saved to internal memory (not a micro sd card) then just connect your old phone to your computer and back them up. If they are saved to a SD card, then just put the card into your new phone.
Hope that helps

sounds simple enough
One note. You will loose any "application data" from apps when you move over unless you are rooted.
So you will loose all your unlocked levels in Angry Birds...
If you root your old phone you can use an app like Titanium Backup to save the "application data" and move it over to your new phone.
Also you could back up your apps with titanium back up on an sd card if your rooted, my backup pro if not rooted.

My desire I got from Vodafon uk is playing up after I had basically customized it just the way I wanted so now my question is is their anyway I can back up all my settings and bookmarks on the memory card or that's not possible
at least I can always re download apps from the market its my settings am concerned with so can these be backed up and kept on memory card to be used in another desire and what's the best back up solution for my issue. ?
Your Google contacts, calendar and Gmail are automatically backed up to Google servers. In addition, search the Android Marketplace for a backup application, such as "MyBackup", I think it gives you a 30-day free trial.
Also, the Desire features an automatic backup system that backs up your web browser bookmarks, messages, dictionary, and settings to the microSD card. Press MENU on the Home screen, then tap Settings > Privacy > Back up my data, then check Back up my data.
To restore downloaded applications after resetting your phone, for example, log into your Google account then use the market to download the applications you previously downloaded. There is a record of what you previously downloaded in the "Downloads" of the Android Market interface.
Thanks for the tip

No problem, glad to help
I am getting ready to replace my N1 on T-Mo over to Evo on Sprint. I have many purchased applications.
What is the best way to do this?
If I use the same gmail account on the Evo, will all my purchased apps follow and show up in the market?
Do I need to first "unregister" from the N1 before adding the account in Evo?
What about the rest of my apps? Is there an easy way to move/transfer? I have MyBackup, but not sure how it will move across different devices.
Thanks!
Your purchased apps will be available if you sign in to the evo with your current google account.
IMO, someone correct me if I'm wrong, I wouldn't risk trying titanium have having the restore fail. I would move every app in /data/app to your computer then put them on your new sdcard and re-install then from there. You would obviously not have any app data. I'd go ahead and make a titanium backup just in case it does work.
I wouldn't even attempt to restore any system data.
1) What happens when I have the same gmail account on two phones? Will I be able to install apps I bought from phone1 onto phone2 without problems? Or, do I have to unregister from phone1 before registering the same gmail account on phone 2?
2) What happens to the apps already purchased and installed on a phone if I dis-associate the gmail account from that phone?
So, I haven't bought any apps on the market yet, but lately there's a few I've been considering buying. My question is this... if I buy some apps, and wipe my phone and change roms and kernels, and hqve to get the apps again, will I hqve to pay for them again? Or ate they linked to my gmail account and I can download then again no matter what?

they are linked to your google account. I've bought 2 and everytime i wipe, they are there in the mydownloads section of the market.
of course you could just use Titanium Backup and restore all the apps no problem
All purchased apps are saved on the "cloud" to your google account. For as long as you use that g-mail account (not sure if you can transfer to new g-mail account) you will have your purchased apps/contacts/calender/ect. Whether you get a new phone or a new ROM.
So I am coming from iOs and so far rooted my S3 and loaded CM 10.2; I love it!
I need help with one thing however. I really liked how the iPhone would automatically backup your entire phone in the cloud as soon as it was pluggd in to a charger AND connected to wifi. It would do this automatically.
Is there such a thing for Android? I understand I will probably need an app like Titanium Backup?
I due have a dropbox account so I can use that for my cloud... I currently have dropbox automatically syncing my camera photos. But I would like something that will also save all of my apps, app data, notes etc... And do it automatically when plugged in and connected to wifi. I'm not sure if Titanium Backup does this.
Can someone make a recommendation?
Your Google account will backup many apps, and your photos automatically. For the rest, you need something like titanium backup

You can do a NANDROID backup through clockworkmod. Shut off your phone. Enter recovery by holding volume up, power, and the home button.
From there you can back up your system and save it to your SD card. You only need to do this twice: before and after every successful ROM installation. (A NANDROID is just a system backup)
You can use Titanium backup to save you app data. It will save it to your SD card. Do this once every week or so.
Your contacts are saved with Google or on your simcard.
Texts and call log can be saved on special apps, I can't name one because my security and anti-theft app does it for me (Avast)
Manually save /sdcard0/android/ into a zip file. ( This holds some data, such as temple run stats or other things. ) Do this every other week.
I'm not sure about pictures, you can zip them up and upload them yourself.
You can use Easy Unrar to zip files to save space and upload.
ZIP the Titanium backups , pictures, and other things, and upload them to your computer through a USB cable or to your dropbox or Google drive.
You can make this all automatic (except nandroid), but some apps will cost money to add in a scheduled backup.
So the website has some description of what can be transferred.. Tbh all my photos and vids are in g photos, I use hangouts and fb messenger so my messages are backed up on a server, use Google contacts that sync when u log into the phone.
I was hoping the true advantage of the cable transfer was to bring app data across, not having to log into 30 different apps will be an advantage. Half my apps don't have an export button (I know I can transfer some via PC)
Does anyone have any more info on this? Literally half the reason I root is to use titanium backup to restore my data on a new ROM xD (I'm coming from a OnePlus two but if there's info about iOS for others that would be useful!)
