[Q] Will OTA be successful after freezing carrier bloat apps on current OS? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi All,
*please reference phone stats in signature*
I have just frozen some carrier(Rogers) bloat apps in my device using Titanium Backup PRO as to try and improve battery life. My carrier is scheduled to roll out the Jelly Bean OTA for the i747M SGS3 devices at the end of this month. Since I froze these apps, will that affect my OTA eligibility? Will my device detect the OTA and not install or just not detect it at all when it becomes available?
Thanks for any and all replies.

Yea, you need to unfreeze before the update.

Software update from T-Mobile with custom rom??

Just keep getting a notification about a software update from T-Mobile is this safe to do when having a custom rom? The FreeGS3 R6
Is anyone having this notification as well??

Don't do it. Realistically, the dev should've disabled the room update feature if he used the TMo ROM for his base. You may want to pm him and let him know.

Its not gonna do anything. If you accept it'll download and attempt to install but will fail.
You can go into app management and disable the software update apps there.
FreeGS3 is a wip. Dev is also working on incorporating a software update for his rom, so it may have been left purposely. Either way, no harm has or will come beccause its there. Its already been covered many times in that roms thread as well as multiple others.

I hit that thanks button

Titanium
Use Titanium backup to force stop the updates from happening or uninstall them all together I did that and now the updates are gone.
Since the thread is covered and done. I'm curious as to the whole update search app not hurting anything. On the g2x WhitehawkX always removed the possibility for it cause it was !
1. Annoying
2. Something that was always checking and causing battery drainage. It this not true?

Do you mean the Software Update and FW Upgrade apps? On a custom rom I dont think itd matter either way. Most likely you wouldnt be able to use it since you are rooted, deodexed and prob on a custom recovery. Like what happened for many on FreeGS3. Able to download the update but installation failed. But we knew it was available.
I dont think it uses much in the way of resources. He could be right about battery though, and im sure he knows more thsn I do on that subject.
In short it doesnt hurt anything to be there, but if it cant be used, isnt it just wasted space?

How do you get into app management? I've been looking... And with titanium, you must have the pro version, I believe to freeze the update. Also what do I freeze?

How to prevent play store update of certain app?

I'm trying to figure out how to stop the play store from updating a certain app. Is that possible?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have no clue how.....?
Any guidance would be appreciated

Go to play app, click on the app you dont want to update automatically, there's going to be a check box somewhere towards the top, under the app images if im not mistaken. Uncheck allow automatic updating. Done.

I'm trying to prevent updating, period. Not auto update.
Sent using T999 with DarthStalker ROM
Disabling auto update prevents the app from updating itself. You have to manually prevent yourself from updating the app manually. I'm not certain that you can blacklist updates for an app the way I think you want to.
With Titanium Backup you can also detach the app from the Play Store

You have to be rooted. Not sure if you have to have the PRO version of TitaniumBackup or not. Anyway go to where you made your back up and find the app. Long press it and from the menu that pops up click Detach from Market.
go to your Google Play Settings and check Updated over Wi-Fi only.
this way you can update all the apps you want manually when you wish...
or just uncheck Auto-Update apps

[Q] Device Management won't go away.

I checked my phone this morning, and in the pull down menu it said "Connecting to DM server.." It's been sitting like that for several hours and won't go away/connect. I've tried restarting my phone, but that didn't help. Anyone know what my problem may be?
I am also rooted, I don't know if that would interfere or not.
You could just freeze AT&T Software update using an app like bloatware freezer free, since you are rooted.

I don't think this is bloatware though, I think it's an AT&T update. Possibly the 4.2.2 update?

4.1.2 hasn't even been released. And it would tell you within a matter of minutes if there was an available update, not hours.

4.1.2* And, if it's not an update what would it be? I would do what you said and freeze it, but I'm concerned it may be of some importance.

It would be an annoying notification. Lol. No importance, if an update was released, you'd know within 5 seconds here on xda

Yeah, no kidding! So I would still be able to update?
If you freeze it, no. Try clearing the data for it in app manager, then reboot.

I went to app manager, but it wont allow me to clear the data. Any other ways of doing this?
Use Titanium Backup to clear the data.

[Q] De-bloating OTA 4.3

Hello Everyone,
Since it looks like I will be stuck on OTA 4.3 version for awhile,I might as well play with it for awhile... I was just wondering what would be the best way to de-bloat this sucker? I am rooted already and have CWM 6.0.4.3 installed. Has there been a script developed already like Ashman's for this new version?
Thank you in advance!

I haven't seen one yet but you can definetly delete carrier apps like my account etc and google apps like google maps safely.

Also, make sure you make a nandroid backup before you delete any system files with titanium. There is no other way to go back if you delete the wrong app and/or softbrick.

I haven't seen a new list or script. An old list I came across has a post to a docs spreadsheet for the SGS3
docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?pli=1&key=0AqTvctlW89DtdC1qVUlLeVFTV3ZOdUtDclpBdVRQOUE&f=true&noheader=true&gid=0

Please understand that I am not vouching for anything on that list, even the things I have frozen with TiBu
Thank you all for your help with this. I got rid of a bunch of apps I didn't want and things are running smoothly
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
I have found as others have if you turn off Paper Artist that Gallery force closes when you attempt to share a picture. Not sure if using Tibu will cause the same issue, I haven't re-rooted yet. You may want to test if you got rid of Paper Artist. Just a thought.

I uninstalled a bunch of stuff and was getting a bunch of force closes. I then decided to switch to quantum room and kernel for the debloating they did and the speed and reliability

Safe removal of apps from rooted N7 (2013) 4.2.2

Hi all. I'm wanting to remove some of the apps from my Nexus 7 (2013). It is rooted and using the stock 4.2.2 KitKat ROM.
Can anyone tell me which apps are safe for removal and which ones aren't, as well as the best way to go about it?
I don't need things like some of the Google apps but I've had bad experiences with previous Android devices when I've just started deleting things
Many thanks all!

Why not just disable them in stock settings app (or freeze them with Titanium Backup)? They don't take up very much space. That way, if something starts going wrong, you can just unfreeze them. Plus, if you ever want to upgrade using the OTA method down the road, it will fail everytime since you've have deleted them, and you'd have to reflash the stock system before flashing the OTA. That being said, I have attached a screenshot of the apps I've disable, and I have seen no ill effects on my N7.
