Call Recording - LG Optimus G (International)

Has anyone been able to get call recording working on the Optimus G? I've tried a few things but can't seem to get it working correctly.

Would like to know the same.

I'm using "Call Recorder" on my phone (DInc), which requires a kernel patch to enable more sound routing options.
Recording the microphone input, which is a necessary feature that allows voice notes, voice search, video audio, etc. The sound to the ear piece or speaker can not be captured in software, partially/mostly because recording phone calls is illegal in many places.
Many (or possibly all except Call Recorder) work by recording the speaker through the microphone (you must put the call in speakerphone to work), and it usually sucks unless the volume is WAY up.

Yup, using the same program rooted. Except I noticed if you pick voice uplink/downlink it will record the other party perfectly until you speak into the microphone, then things get muffled. Hope there is a patch or workaround possibly..

You're using Skvalex's CallRecorder??? That's awesome news. Except for:

Could you give more details on "muffled?" (i.e. volume drops, sounds are garbled, which side does it affect, ...)
And which carrier's version are you using?

Im using the latest paid version from the play store. By muffled I mean it records incoming side audio perfectly until you speak into the microphone, then everything gets garbled and muffled. If you never say a word on your side of the conversation, then it will keep recording the incoming audio perfectly. This happens on no matter what setting you use ex. upstream, upstream and downstream, or just downstream. No other settings will record other tahn microphone setting and you have to use the speakerphone in order for it to record the incoming audio.

I'm late to the party on this, but has anybody tried using this app with the Alsa Mixer method. This works for a wide variety of phones that previously never had a call recording fucntion available to them. Follow steps in this order:
Step 1: Download busybox from playstore. Open app and make sure it's installed under the "xbin" location. Not just the "bin" location.
Step 2: Download Alsa Mixer from the playstore. Open app and install to phone.
Step 3: Download and install CallRecorder by Skvalex. Open app and make sure recording is set to "Alsa". If there's no success, try setting the phone up as different models.
Hope this helps.

Nothing works. I have exhausted everything I can think of. Problem is Alsa doesn't seem to work. It installs fine, but after launching the program it is blank. There is nothing in the GUI. You can't pick or set any options at all.

Hmmm... Almost sounds like the install actually failed if nothing appears within Alsa.

Shouldn't have to set any options. It should be just load and go.
Have you tried posting here for help to see if skvalex has any ideas?

Yup. I have root. Call recorder shows Alsa as being installed. But choosing it still doesn't get me any calls successfully recorded. Have you had any luck? If so, what did you do to get it working?

I may be WAY out-of-date with the kernel on this one... but isn't ALSA a kernel component? I don't remember where I read this, but I think el Goog does not enable/use ALSA for sound. I am assuming the ALSA app fails, because the kernel does not contain the module.
Darn locked bootloaders.

OK... I had it working for a little bit, but now it does not record anything.
I can see the request for root flash, but no call is logged by CallRecorder.
I'm rooted. I supposedly have ALSA installed... I've re-flashed my ROM several times, so I don't know if it's included in the ROM, or is CR needs a whack in the head to find the real installation (i.e. stale setting info).
Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?

MOD EDIT HDser Comment removed as it is not in line with our site policy
while browsing trough my windows folders, stumbled uppon record.exe, or something, it was build in by windows, but has been removed, at least, not able to start it up, maybey a way to install it again
I have tried this software, and the voice of the person that talked with me was very low.

I totally agree
It works well if you put the speakers on during the call.
I know this way everybody in the room will hear the convo, but.. it works.
LOL.
Audio notes touch just not good enough...
It doesnt record the one you are talking with (you can vagely hear the other person, as the microphone picks up some of the sound from the personal loudspeaker).
I would like to record all of my calls (crispy clear sound from both parts), and I cant run around with the back side speaker on.
Anny suggestions?
Another ROM update or maybe another program?
thnx..

LG G3 Call Recording

Anyone found an app to AUTOMATICALLY record phone calls? I've tried two, ACR and Call Recorder. Both have problems recording the other person - with ACR the other person sounds garbled and with Call Recorder the other person isn't recorded at all.
The stock dialer lets you record phone calls, but not automatically.
Anyone found an app that will record phone calls on the G3? What is it?
Thanks!
Stock recorder does not let you record on a d851. Have spoken to both devs they all say it a hardware issue but yet tweakedbox g3 records.
AWESOME G3

G3 tweaksbox will allow you to add call recording and then recorded calls go to Voice Recorder app.
FYI, I get the same garbled caller side of my recorded calls with G3 Tweaksbox for some reason.
The other end of the line is garbled and distorted, barely able to make anything out of it, about 85% of all calls are like that, whether outgoing or incoming.
And it seems the louder the other end of the line is, it becomes even more distorted, but it's not from talking loud, my end is recorded fine, even when I tried yelling, it seems to be the way it's handling the receiving audio.

I dislike anything xposed. Just not worth the hours it takes to track stuff down when it goes bad.

Yes call recording will work natively. The only issue is the other person sounds REALLY bad.

I have the same problem on call recordings with my D851, the other person sounds really distorted.
Pretty sure this is how you can get it working...
After talking to @wideasleep1 about his settings with Automatic Call Recorder (FREE), and applying a couple settings of my own in both phone settings and in G3 TweaksBox, I was able to get the call recording nice and clear!... here's how to do it:
Pic 1 - G3 TweakBox settings
Pic 2 - Settings (access this during call)
Pic 3 - Automatic Call Recorder settings (1 of 2)
Pic 4 - Automatic Call Recorder settings (2 of 2)
*once in a while on a certain call the recipient will sound fuzzy, maybe is related to the phone's main audio volume while on the call though. I'd say about 50%-70% up is a good volume. Anyways, someone wanna try this out and post your results?
Pic 4... Sorry
Ok this will add the record button when on a call. It will not auto record maybe I'll see about modding the apks to make that happen when I get some time. I have tried this and it's not terribly bad. There's a little crackling if the other persons voice gets to loud. So if you just want the option to be there for the next time you call Comast it''s there, also this is a flashable zip so please do a backup first :good:

Are you on a ODEX rom? If so rename LGIncallUI.odex and LGTeleService.odex.
I use boldbeast in the play store on mode four. Has automatic or manual.

Anything.. Lol
The point is that the os doesn't see them. Renaming the file achieves this without permanently deleting the files in case you want to revert later.
So, resurrecting a dead horse here...
When you're hearing the calls sound "garbled", the reason why is because the gain of the side-of-the-call-in-question is set too high
What I mean by this, for people who don't have experience with audio processing:
A file will have a given maximum-volume it can store for any given sound sample.
If it is told to write a volume higher than that maximum, it will write the maximum instead.
"Distortion" is a term for what this type of thing does to sound; specifically in this form, where the numbers are just cut down to size with no finesse, it is called "hard clippIng" and generally sounds pretty awful
The solution is to basically bring down the volume of the incoming sounds that are being recorded – i.e., in this case, the other person's end of the call needs to have its volume brought down coming into the recording app / system
The term for incoming volume is "gain"
So, the LG built-in call recorder needs the incoming gain, esp. that of the incoming calls, brought down to fix this
There is likely a number in some obscure preference file that controls this. I just have no idea where to look.
Anyone have any leads??
One of the updates to ACR this year included a gain control. By reducing the gain, I can now record calls with no distortion. Success!

Which app can auto record phone calls on rooted device?

Hi,
I want to use app like automatic call recorder which will record any phone call.
Now that my phone is rooted, is there any app that is capable of doing this on the 5x?
thanks

this one works well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boldbeast.recorder
You have after installed, to configure it properly... Read also this topic on their official forum: https://www.boldbeast.com/forum/topic1122-call-recorder-for-nexus-5x.html

The free version doesn't allow automatic call recording.
Is there any free alternative?
Unfortunately even the best paid call recorders work very poorly on the 5X. It has something to do with the chip they used (I forgot the exact explanation). The only way to get good quality call recording is to have the call volume super low, which stinks.
That's shame.
Thank you

got skvalex call recording working on T-Mobile.

So happy this actually works. Exact same procedure as for 6t.
Using the adb commands to enable the built in call recorder, turn immediately run adb for skvalex call recorder. I've rebooted several times and the settings stick and works.
Anyone need any help let me know.

That I couldn't tell you since I have never used magisk. My phones aren't rooted so I would default to say rooted is always going to better. I can say this method is clear enough to work. I would not call the quality the same as voice uplink/downlink.

Well, without root it's just the typical procedure. Increase the mic volume so the app, this one or ACR and others, can pick up more of the caller's audio. Increasing the background noise, too. So it's never clear.
So it's a shame that root continues to be the only practical solution to achieving in-call recording and not just recording the speaker.

Apps can't use microphone

Hy guys,
I'm writing here because my OP 5T's microphone isn't working in apps that use it, except for phone app, in which it works properly. Doing recs in whatsapp, telegram, and IG results in a rushy noise and even in my guitar tuner app the phone doesn't hear sounds. On the contrary, during calls the other person can perfectly hear me.
I'm on stock Android 10, build number is A510_43_200513. I already tried to wipe cache from recovery, uninstall and reinstall apps and nothing worked. Have you any suggestion for me?
Thanks.

Using any call recording module ?
If yes , uninstall the call recording module and check again.
If no , I am not sure though, my call recording is **** and I can hear is some optimus prime like talking while I record calls . So I read somewhere that it's due to the ok google detection , even though I haven't checked it yet .
So I may recommend you to de activate any ok google detection through sound command and check again .
