GOOD. I am tired of this thing vibrating my damn ear off 50 times a day. Everyone keeps asking what that sound is while we are on the phone.
Has anyone tried to manually update yet? I'm afraid to try it because I'm rooted and using TWRP.

This is great news. Does anyone know if the same root method works on this release?

Gonna be mad if I run out of power checking for updates and then it arrives when I can't update
East/North bay Cali still nothing yet and I'm completely stock.
Great news! Thank you (OP) for this. Only stock rooted, so torn to either go back to stock to take full update or just wait until one of these great devs get a flashable out.........that is the question. lol
This is awesome.
I was waiting for this update before I rooted.
Patiently waiting for a flashable update!!!

Once someone gets the OTA - the update.zip can be pulled for a manual install through stock recovery.

Answer with your location if you have gotten the update. This also will help answer my curiosity on how they roll out updates and where. If anyone gets the update please post the manual download link
New link since the old one was deleted.
http://android.clients.google.com/p...0/eec955eb4a5b.update_SPH-L710_LI3_to_LJ7.zip
Start downloading people the official ota lj7. Boot into recovery and install with Samsung recovery and all will be good.!
Just got mine updated manually. Placed the zipped file on root on my sd card. Then shut it down. Removed and reinserted the battery. Held down the volume up, home button, and power until I saw Samsung display on the screen. A menu then came up and I selected restore from sd file or something like that. Install worked without a hitch!
I think, not sure, OTAs get to the "major markets" first, then more rural and smaller areas get them as the days go on.
I only say that based on my experience. I live in a small town in Western New York and it usually takes the OTAs a few days to get pushed here after an official announcement from Sprint
But I too am also interested in which markets get the OTA first.

Nope, havent gotten it.
I remember when I had my GS2, when the 4.0 OTA came out, people that got the update first extracted the URL of the update file and posted it here in XDA and so people that hadnt gotten the update could manually download it instead of waiting weeks for the OTA to hit their phones...
Will we have the same now for the GS3?

Yes, it gets stored in /cache, once someone gets the OTA they can pull it from there and upload it a file sharing site (Dropbox, mediafire, d-h.st, etc)

It's not a URL, it's the actual OTA file. You accept the download, then before it reboots to install, you copy the file in /cache to your computer. Then upload to the file sharing host of your choosing and share that URL with the masses.
Never mind lol

I know there is a trick to stop the framework process or something to that extent to force and update once it comes out. I have used it on the two previous upgrades so I didn't have to wait for it to hit me. Does anyone remember the exact app? Does Android Framework sound familiar? I think I cleared the cash and then it found the update.

I searched the web today as well, but did not find anything. Do you have kies installed on your PC? There was a kies update detected and an update for my phone. Attached is the kies version
just checked my phone via kies, and the up date to 4.1.1 was available. your phone must be at 50% charge to apply update. so im on the charger as we speak!!! will post results later!
I can confirm, just connected and shows the update.

So far so good! It seems to be pretty responsive, no lag as of yet , Google Now working as expected, face recognition(screen unlock) seems to be working OK, the recent apps has some additional options, when you open a file for the first time to associate it with an application is different, the pull down notification has some new options, there is this new Home Screen mode that allows you to pick between Basic and Easy mode, a blocking mode which all you to block notifications for particular scenarios you setup, and who knows what else I have missed.

Your presentation needs a lot of work.
Did anyone else recently receive an OTA update notification this morning? My device status has always been modified  and in the past going to the update screen wouldn't allow me to receive the update do to the modified status. This is on T-Mobile so I'm wondering A.) how did the update try to come through with the device modified flag set and B.) why now? This is in the Detroit Michigan area.
ROM info:
Android version: 4.1.1
Baseband version: T889UVALJ1
Kernel version: 3.0.31-260018
[email protected] #1
build number: JR003C.T889UVALJ1
They can push notifications through easily, unless you have a notification blocker setup. The update is 4.1.2, and is supposed to enable mutli-window support for our device that was supposed to come with it.
Clarification: Update NOTIFICATIONS can come through, not the update itself.

Thanks for clearing that up - it probably was just the notification that I received. It was 5:30am so I just hit "post pone" for 1 day and froze the process so that it doesn't come back... I have Google Wallet working and really don't want to update to 4.1.2 (I did that update on Dec 19th but ending up reverting because of issues with Gwallet). Thanks again.

Not gonna ask for a specific ETA but was just wondering how long a process it is to extract the radios. Again, I am fine with however long it may take and do not need a time that they will be posted. Just wondering if it's something that can be done quick for you guys or if it will take awhile.

obviously not an official answer, but it seems that they cannot extract the radio from the phone, and so they are reverting to 4.1 and hoping that he gets the OTA again so they can extract it before the ota is flashed?
Sounds like that is the plan. But this raises a good point, especially since we don't know how the test ota process works, and thus don't know for sure that he would receive the ota again. Maybe it would make sense to first get it rooted and then pull the radios via the gnex toolbox (which is probably easier and quicker than doing it manually) and maybe also pull a full system image or create an image. zip of the stock ROM through CWM.
That said, these guys are doing this out of pure goodwill, and they should do whatever works best for them and doesn't interfere with their lives. Just happy they gave us the news

The OTA "should" be linked to a device ID. When the public OTA rolls out, blocks of devices are updated at various intervals (which is why some get the OTA later than others). The server housing the OTA at present should have a block of test device IDs authorized to download. If this holds true, then he should be able to grab the update again if running JRO03O. Key word is "should". :fingers-crossed:
