[Q] HTC Software Number 2 different HOX: 2.17.1900.1 710RD??? - HTC One X

Greets all,
I have a question, I tried doing a search on google and on here but nothing is coming up thats useful, so sorry in advance for the post if i missed it because of not using the right keyword.
I have two HOX's, Long story short, I smashed my screen on my white one and sent it in to HTC to fix it, they did but they messed the phone up, so I sent it back and they fixed it, but looking at the phone, I think they changed my phone completely,. Mine the bootloader was unlocked and had a custom stock rom with root. Now my black one and my white one had the same Software Number under the software information section which the black one is: 2.17.401.2. (Black one X bootloader never unlocked or rooted)
But the white one they sent back to me has this: 2.17.1900.1 710RD.
everything else is exactly the same except for this numbering. I was expecting that I would have gotten back the phone the way I sent it back after they fixed it, but obviously its not, and before going and re-unlocking and rooting the phone, I wanted to know if this 2.17.1900.1 710RD meant anything or what region is this phone? Checked the bootloader and it says locked, so I dont know if this is a new phone, or they just locked it.
Looking at the serial number on the phone and the email in the correspondence the serial number matches, so that leads me to another question, can they take a new phone and change the serial number to match your prior phone if its not repairable? Plus this rom on my phone has a few apps on it that I havent seen at all on either phone like:
Dr. eye, easy card, KKBox, They also have Amazon MP3 in this rom too along with all the google apps, Movie, Music, etc.
Thanks to anyone that can shed light to this.

Is the bootloader unlocked now on the one you got back?

No it's not, it says locked, which truthfully I'm not surprised HTC is known to reset a phone and I presume they can easily lock it again and install a official Rom.
Based on some research the apps I mentioned are supposedly to be Taiwan apps. Still don't know what Dr eye is, but kkbox is a music app and easy card seems to be a GPS app

is it s-off?

Nope checked that also maybe thinking is get lucky, but unfortunately not

What does the 'S' say? S-ON or S-OFF? Cause if it was a 2.17.401.2 phone, they can not put another build like 2.17.1900.1 710RD (what is a very strange number (RD Research and Development???).
If it is S-OFF, i think you do not have to (and i wouldn't) unlock it, cause you can do anything with the phone you would like to do if it is S-OFF.

OP has already said it's not S-OFF...have to say I've not heard of the build number. Have you tried using the 2.17.401.2 RUU?

I wouldn't mind a look at your boot image.

Here is a snapshot of both the Software info screen, and a shot of the Bootloader, nothing on the bootloader stands out that I see, but here is the shot in case I missed something:

I have that build number on my black hox, so I know what that rom is, but this build number is something that caught me off guard cause I never seen it, and honestly I posted about this here, just incase it was something possibly to use, or if someone saw something that might help with s-off, or anything before changing the rom and not knowing if this would have helped some how.

I dont know what good the boot image would do considering I dont see anything myself, but check out the two screenshots, if I've missed something and this could be useful, let me know.

I know you do, I was just saying if you try running the RUU does it accept it? I suppose without trying you won't know and if it does work you'd lose this random version you're on now

Out of curiousity, what is your CID before/after ? and did you check if it has the same serial number as before ? and did you send it to a USA HTC service centre ?

CID same as before: HTC__001 (Unchanged)
Serial Number is the same as when I sent it in for repair.
Yes I sent it in to HTC USA. (I have the international HOX)
Again, Screen was broken, sent it in for repair, got it repaired for free (Dont know how), the sent it back not working, sent it back to them, they fixed it and sent it back to me.

Sorry for the bump, but no one has a clue about this?

What way did you debrand your desire? Any links ?

Think I'm going to de-brand my Desire as well. If possible could someone answer the following questions, did search but ain't found anything that exactly answers the following. Sorry if I missed it and they will probably be useful answers for fellow network branded users wanting Froyo.
1) What does the T-Mobile specific update actually have in it other than the splash screen logo and setting tweaks for the network?
2) Will it be possible to go back to the T-Mobile rom after de-branding at a later date? I presume this would be possible if I locate a copy of the rom to download and flash back onto the phone.
3) Will de-branding effect the contract/warranty with the phone? I have found that rooting would invalidate the warranty, however all I want is the stock HTC rom on the phone and not a custom one which shouldn't require rooting. So would replacing the T-Mobile rom with the HTC rom invalidate the warranty?
4) In order to get the OTA update to 2.2/Froyo what needs to be done to the phone? Do I just need to create a gold card and flash the phone with a stock Eclair 2.1 rom or the most recent HTC rom and wait for the update to appear.
Thanks
*fully agree with this topic*
with that in mind
if somebody wants to give us a quick run through of how to debrand a currently up to date tmo uk desire, i'd highly appreciate it
i just want to get that damn 2.2 update this weekend.
i'm not rooted or anything. just totally standard tmo uk with whatever the latest OTA stuff is
I have been looking into Debranding my phone, the debranded rom is now outdated and although I guess it would update, there were issues with losing Wi-Fi after updating.
I am not sure if there is a dump of the most up-to-date rom hanging around?
Any way,
T-Mobile sent me this message regarding the FroYo OTA this weekend
Hi there, we have been advised by them [HTC] that it is only rolling to approx 500 devices for testing at the moment.

Well T-Mobile have said that it's only being rolled out to 500 phones. They haven't said if it's 500 phones in the UK or 500 phones in Europe as this is a European update it's not country specific. HTC might be misleading us all a little bit. It could be more of a test than a full implementation of 2.2?
We might not properly see 2.2 released for de-branded phones for another couple of weeks in this case. Hopefully though the 2.2 file link will get leaked and everyone will be able to give it a go!
In a nutshell:
CREATE A GOLD CARD!!!
This can also be used for your regular SD card, as only sector 0 is patched. If you card is already fat32, it doesn't even need formatting, just follow the instructions to create this.
Pick your generic ROM and flash it. OTA updates will also work fine, as long as you have converted your SD card to a GOLDCARD.
Keep this as the GOLDEN rule
meh im not going back to the 2.1 at the moment, ill do it after holiday
i read in another thread that you dont need to have a goldcard inside the phone when updating a unbranded desire, is this correct?
So i only need the goldcard for unbranding?
Yep, without a Goldcard, you can't do it!
*EDIT - If your Desire was already unbranded, you don't need a goldcard.
But if it EVER was branded, you need a goldcard, even after you have unbranded your phone, and accept new updates, you NEED a goldcard
does anyone have any links to debranned roms that will update when the ota update arrives

That mean if your Desire was unbranded when you bought it, not one you have unbranded yourself.

Creating a gold card for stock updates, kind of a pain.
I would rather quickly root via Unrevoked3 and flash any of the ROMS that are going to be popping up on XDA and Modaco the moment the 2.2 update is released.

That depends really. With Klutsh's Goldcard creator tool, it literally takes 2 minutes to do the whole thing, and you can use the goldcard (converted SD card) as your regular card anyway. So you are basically creating a safeguard just by converting your regularly used SD card to a goldcard. You don't need to keep swapping it out with a 'special' card...
Yeah create goldcard. Then run any stock rom rru update. It's really simple. I did mine as soon as i recoeved it. Must have been less than a week into April.

[Q] HTC Merge Rooting and Custom Recovery

OK I just got an HTC Merge(lexikon) but i was surprised to find it hasn't been released yet. so now im stuck with the problem of how to perm root it. I have ran visionary and temprooted it but thats no fun, plus i want to install new roms
The merge seems to be very close to the HTC EVO shift, with the only big difference seemingly being the wimax part. The processor is the same, and the memory seems the same too. My question is, would it be safe to try this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932153) hboot and recovery on the merge? Would this method be safe (apart from the inherent risk of flashing hboots)? Would these roms work on the merge? Too many questions
But I've also read that the merge is apparently very close to the g2 etc, and is supposed to be in the HTC Vision family of phones, from what ive read, it seems i have to first convert it to something like the G2(something about partitions etc) and then i'll be able to start flashing roms on it. so I'm confused.
I have been unable to find a matching RUU for this lexikon, as all RUUs Ive found are older than the rom version on the phone. The phones splash screen is for US Cellular, however the phone isnt on their site.

I am experienced with adb and flashing etc, and I'd be happy to work with devs interested in the merge. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm quite curious about this as well because CellSouth is getting the merge this month and the first thing i wanna do it root it and possibly get cm7 on the baby. I've scoured the forums and sadly noticed that one doesn exist for this particular phone. I have noticed that it is being associated with the desire Z and possibly the shift but no one has stated which thread to follow for the Merge. Hopefully someone drops in and answers your question bro cuz i'll definitely be following where you go for resources whenever i upgrade
no luck man, been searching for more than a week. I guesswork will only start on this once its released and some devs get their hands on this. I wanted to get the ball rolling before it was released so we had something once it landed but their has been no response or interest from any devs etc
Alltel pre-orders for the HTC Merge ship tomorrow, which is the first official release of the phone, so I get the feeling there will be more people asking these questions very soon.
Guess all we can do is be patient..I mean with all the work they are doing over in the G2/DZ forums, it shouldn't take them that long to get things rolling on the Merge Dont even own it yet but already eager to overclock it hehehe
Hasnt it started shipping yet? No news on google, no news on the forums, it hasnt even appeared here yet. This seems to be the slowest launch of any device ever.
I got mine. It's nice.
Alltel, the provider that just launched the phone, is not a major carrier. Alltel has around 800,000 subscribers. Compare that to Verizon Wireless's 102.2 million and AT&T Mobility's 95.5 million, and you'll understand why the forums aren't exactly blowing up with Merge users.
That said, a lot of Alltel subscribers have been waiting for a phone like this, so I'm sure they're selling a lot of them. I think people will be trickling in as the phone launches on other regional carriers like Cellular South. There will probably only be a quicker surge in the user base if the phone launches on Verizon.

Looks like the Alltel release has some newer software builds:

Potential root method for HTC Merge
After doing a bit of research, I've found an approach to attempting to gain permanent root privileges on the Merge that seems fairly safe.
Basically, follow the main instructions for the most current method of rooting the G2 / Desire Z / Desire HD, but skip the hboot/recovery steps. If it works, it should be good for S-OFF, Super-CID, SIM-unlock (if other versions of the phone are SIM-locked; the Alltel isn't), and root.
Here's the procedure. Take path 4b (because we don't have an engineering hboot file) and skip the following line, because we don't have a recovery we know is compatible:
Code:
./flash_image recovery recovery.img
While a recovery would be nice, I don't see why the rest wouldn't work without one.
It doesn't sound too risky because the steps are:
Use psneuter to get temp root. I imagine at worst, this just doesn't work.
Use gfree to power cycle the emmc, which will restart in read/write mode. Probably in the worst case, this doesn't work and your device restarts.
Use root_psn script to copy busybox, su, and Superuser.apk to the now-writable system partition. I don't see how this would make your Merge unusable in a way you can't undo.
I don't need permanent root access so I haven't tried this myself. Please post your results if you try it. If you don't try it but see a reason this won't work, please let us know.
Disclaimer: I have not tested this. In fact, I am new to Android (although proficient with Linux). If you become the first person to brick a Merge, don't blame me for encouraging you or providing dangerous ideas.
i tried using 2 different versions of gfree and its a no-go
doesn't damage device but i get errors and of course no root
thanks for the effort and the info discostrings
Hmm. Thanks for reporting your results stoney!
Whatever allows gfree to work seems to be patched (which is why you need to downgrade the Desire Z and HD in the instructions).
There are Merge ("Lexikon") RUUs floating around from testing last fall with Verizon that seem to have software versions that gfree will work with (1.23 and 1.33). So the downgrade trick may be possible. However, I'm not familiar with the signing process, so I don't know whether the current Merge would recognize them as a valid "upgrade" after lowering the version number. Trying it would be pretty risky as there's no way I know to back up or restore the stock ROM.
I guess we'll need to wait for a dev to look at this, or at least for a recent stock RUU as a safety net. If anyone is looking for the Lexikon ROMs, I can provide links, but they were pretty easy to find with a search engine.
A question for any dev that stops by: are the Lexikon ROMs from the fall likely to be flashable to the current Merge via the version-lowering trick and will they work with gfree?
not feeling trying the downgrade yet so i guess I'll wait. my only concern is that the more time passes the more I get the feeling its not going to be picked up by a major carrier thus diminishing our chances that the device will end up in the hands of devs that want to tinker with it. a GREAT phone as-is though so no complaints from me.
yeah thats what i fear as well. another month and if this thing cant do cyanogen mod im selling it. Its a shame though, having the best android qwerty phone and not being able to tweak it. anyone know wtf is wrong with verizon?

If people are still developing for the G1 then i think we shouldn't worry about getting obsolete. Our phones are already way more obsolete than most people might think. But so are all the others, which were released about a month or two ago. We now have dual core phones and Sense 3.0. Sense 3.0 will not be coming to the HTC Desire S or the Incredible S.
BUT
The community will still port most of that stuff. hopefully. In the meantime, as merge owners, please show your support here.
What's really crazy is that the Merge isn't even on the HTC website yet. I emailed them and asked why and was told that the phone had not been released yet.....

Good afternoon.
I come with the illusion that any developer can help users of LG P870, I wonder if someone could develop a way to install ClockworkMod recovery as custon able to use unofficial roms, and I am desperate for waiting to come out some method to free once and for all this great phone, the phone is becoming popular because it is inexpensive and is being distributed in the U.S. by AT&T and Telcel Mexico, please support us to all of us that we have this phone.
To add a little, this phone already has root method Bin4ry with a restore script via adb.
I would love for this phone to get unlocked with CWM. It's an amazing phone. We just need to pull everyone together that has one and get them on here until someone can help. I appreciate all of the devs on here and I hope we can get something going on this awesome phone.
Ditto.
Jelly Beans.... Optimus F5 has it. Escape is the same phone. Guess we wait. Hopefully, not as long like Optimus 3D/Thrill.
Disappointing
send an email to LG for a response on whether there would be an early upgrade of our model to Jelly Bean or at least unlocking the bootloader and this was his response:
Thank you for your interest about our mobile phone.
“We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site(http://opensource.lge.com).
This site is just for providing source codes of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we have used in our product.”
We don’t have any detailed information about LGP870’s boot loader unlock.
If there is any news, LG will announce officially.
Please wait for more times.
We hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
simply a misfortune I regret having bought this phone from LG

Has there been any development on P870 so far? At least is there a way to get unbloated version of stock firmware or change the language of the OS?
It would be cool if there is at least a list of stuff we can safely get rid of? Or can we try to get a different version to remove all the crapware AT&T pre-loaded?
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, there has been no further development. I love this phone, but the lack of support is slowly making me go for either the optimus g or g2. Also as far as I know, there is no list. Its just trial and error I guess. I've personally tried to remove some stuff, but after a reboot it says security error. So certain things will cause a security error while others will be just fine. Btw, the only way (that I know of) to fix a security error is to use the lg support tool to recover your phone.

I see you are still using the device, any specific complaints about the software or the bloatware? Or are they just sitting there chilling until you actually run them? I know T-Mo had a bunch that were constantly running like T-Mo back up, My T-Mo, etc.. After the security error, was it a total restore/recovery or was it not destructive recovery? Sorry, I am not familiar with LG at all, coming from T-679 which was extremely flexible, this is a bit puzzling.
How about language, anyway to switch the language of the OS to something like German?

Is there another way or is there something I am missing?

Try putting your phone in download mode before using the lg support tool. That normally helps for me. Make sure you choose upgrade recovery in the options tab.

They don't run in the background unless you update them and set them up. I keep all the updates uninstalled and disable auto update so i don't have to worry about them. And yes it is a total recovery. Nothing is saved unless it is on your sim card or sd card. You can change the system language, but I don't see a german option. You might be able to download a language pack from the play store. I'll check into it and let you know.
P.S. sorry for the late reply..
Thanks! I am looking for German and Turkish.

Cwm recovery for the escape is finally here!!! The guy who made it also made a custom rom. I installed it and tested it. So far everything works (I don't use Bluetooth so I haven't tested that yet).
More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976116
Be sure to use Google chrome when viewing the web page he sends you to. Its all in Vietnamese and you will need to translate the whole page.

I went to try to install the recovery and rom. First question is, I skipped the driver install and rooting my phone because I am already rooted using motochopper. The f5_touch_ recovery.apk I was told to run does nothing? I tried extracting it and it swill doesn't run or bring anything up? Do I need a program to run this file or is it because I didn't use the method included to root? Then if that is the case and i'm successful at the recovery. What do I need to do to install the Rom?Please help ASAP! I have the recovery and ROM downloaded and saved waiting to install! Been waiting to do this forever so please help! THanks sooo much!

Bootloader unlock

Hi all,
I'm considering buying a Nokia 7.1 and I was wondering if the current unlock procedure is working with this version as well?
Thanks!
According to a facebook post, they are not going to offer any bootloader unlock for the 7.1. Hopefully this is wrong information.
Nokia Mobile Hi Robert! Thanks for your interest. At this point, there are no plans of releasing the 7.1 with an unlocked bootloader.
Until HMD allows bootloader unlocking I'll stick with Oneplus and Xaiomi for complete control and root access
Can a Mod fix the title for this thread? It may be here awhile. Thanks.
Someone needs to try once they have a 7.1?

I think that comment is taken out of context. I see it as they are shipping all phones with locked bootloader, not that they won't be unlockable.

Yes, my reading as well.
Fair, here was my original question but I do understand the possible confusion between unlockable and selling it unlocked.
Thinking about getting two 7.1 devices when they start shipping. Is there word on whether or not the bootloader will be unlockable? If the bootloader can't be unlocked I'll move on to something else.

I tried the Nokia Bootloader Unlock method, no joy. The unlock app says "Device not support."

that`s why i`d never buy a Nokia phone.
As long as Nokia doesn`t allow their customers to do with their phones what THEY want i buy Xiaomi phones :good:
Why is the OEM unlock toggle in development settings greyed out , have Nokia locked it down ?

yes. but you can open bootloader for money.
How so?
Seriously?! I was thinking in buying this phone because it isn't huge and it is android One. The only alternatives that I can think are Xiaomi Mi A2 or Galaxy S9

It's a decent device, and having One is certainly a plus, but I'm moving on to the Sony XZ3 for a few reasons including the lack of an easy, supported method of unlocking the bl.
Additionally, AOSP is available for the Sony if that's your preference and it gets timely monthly updates.

Hey there,
I own a Nokia 7.1 and was also looking around for a way to unlock the bootloader. I've been looking around and it turns out Nokia has their own website for this. I have unfortunately not posted enough times to give a URL, but a quick search for 'nokia bootloader unlock' has the top result showing the page I am referencing.
Not sure if it's been posted as a reply before, but I thought I'd share.
Here's the site.
Not used it personally though
The second result when searching is a paid service($8) but they remotely connect to your computer to do it which I'd not be comfortable with to be honest

I used said 8$ Service today. Some indian guy named Narender Singh, friendly, patient with a Android noob like me. Communication in my case via Telegram chat. Time difference isn't that large from Germany to India (they have UTC+5:30). Contrary to my sparse Android skills I'm definetely not a complete noob with computers, know a console command when I see one. I took precautions, and was aware at what was happening on screen and tracking the clipboard at all times. But really nothing suspicious ever happened. He used all the software and ROMs that i had downloaded myself in advance from sources I found myself using google (f.e. NOSt 0.6).
He did do all the nessessary steps in the cmd, always inside the NOSt path, fastboot this and fastboot that, not a single command did look suspicious or aimed at the computer (which was a fresh win10 set up for the purpose, and not in Home Network). He looked up some serial Number and other device information he got from the phone NOSt console commands, copied them to a newly created text file. Two minutes later he copied a large string into said textfiles (no console commands, more like a veeeery long key) which he supposedly created from the serial number and other device information he got from my phone.
Some rebooting the phone in download mode later, the bootloader is unlocked (console confirmed, downloadmodescreen in phone confirmed as well).
We had no luck in installing the Havoc GSI ROM however, which I had downloaded in advance, but in a wrong version (like for twrp and/or tailored for some motorola?). So now my next problem is: since not many people know how to unlock the bootloader of the Nokia 7.1, nobody will develop a custom ROM tailored for it.
I will now have to look for and try some GSI google-assistant-free ROMs the next days and try those twrp/adb installation guides... Any suggestions are welcome :fingers-crossed:
Narender suggested, that I should try Custom ROMs tailored for "Nokia 6.1 Plus". Don't know why, probably the model is very similar? I'd feel more like trying generic GSI ROMs instead, but that's just a feeling, because i simply don't know how similar they really are.
So far my feedback on unlocking the bootloader on my 7.1.
I don't know if this helps or not, but you can still toggle the oem unlock button even if its greyed out on pie.
All you have to do is turn off the developer options and turn it back on , but as soon you turn on the developer options click on the oem unlock button as quickly as possible and it should toggle the button. Well, it did in my case.
Has anyone tried using it. Let me know if it works.

Updating Android on a Blacklisted Phone

I have a note 10+ 5g that I bought from an individual seller 2 years ago. Recently I found out this phone is blacklisted in the US (I am in another country so the phone is working fine). The phone is stuck on android 10 and tells me the software is up to date.
A. Does this have to do with the phone being blacklisted?
B. Is there anything I can do to update to android 12? (I have no experience whatsoever but can follow instructions in case that works).
I tried contacting the carrier but they said I need an account in order to get help clearing the imei, I cannot contact the person I bought it from because he's obviously a fraud plus it's been a while, I tried searching for online services but cannot tell which ones are legit they all look fishy to me.
Should I just settle with this old version until I get a new device?
TIA

If the above suggestion does not work, we can follow this tutorial. I have followed it before and it worked. Perhaps the reason you cannot update normally is because of where you are and what firmware is on the phone.

I'm not exactly sure what the issue is, but I'm having other issues also with turning on VoLTE for example. Could it be a problem with how they unlocked the phone before selling it to me? Please excuse my ignorance and or stupid questions.

I'm guessing the reason you're phone is having problems is because it was bought in a different country then you, and the version of Android available varies depending on where you are. For example, wireless regulations and standards vary by location. Regardless of the issue, the tutorial I linked to should solve it. I can help guide you through it and answer questions if you'd like.

I appreciate it! Let me do my homework and study the tutorial first.
Blacklisted phone discussions, regardless of the circumstances are not permitted.
Feel free to continue discussing how to flash/update the phone but any discussion on circumventing a blacklist will result in a warning or ban pending the circumstances.

Let's do this option: "Download the Odin-flashable package". Dial *#1234#" to figure out what you're current CSC code is. I already have Bifrost installed, so if you want me to I can download the correct firmware and then upload it here.

It looks like the CSC code "OYN" is not recognized. Looks like this has happened before: link. I suggest that we flash the EUX version, as it is the most common and is what most (perhaps all) new phones come with, so it should work in your country (I have it and I'm in the U.S.).

So it doesn't make a difference if we use another code? Cool

Alright, I believe I just figured everything out! Based off your model number: "SM-N976U", your device is a T-Mobile one. This means that your phone should have TMB (T-Mobile) firmware, as you can see here (notice that there are only three CSC codes available for your device). On Bifrost, TMB is showing as available for your device, so I am downloading the Android 12 (latest available) version for you right now. Let me know if you want me to keep downloading it.

Don't worry, I've done this before. I just restarted downloading the firmware - Sorry, I've been busy the past couple of days. Remember, if you have any questions, let me know. Just don't get overwhelmed, we can do it.
P.S.: Firmware should be done downloading in ~2 hrs, and then I'll upload it for you.
