you need to have the recovery.img file and the SDK set correctly on your system, do the following:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
Code:
fastboot flash recovery path/to/recovery.img

He's asking why flashing ROMs fail WITHIN recovery, which then you can assume that he already got recovery working.

Not true. I've been using TWRP for around a year now on various devices and haven't one had a single problem flashing anything. It's better than cwm in every way

it depends on points of view i've nothing against TWRP, i use it on my Transformer and it is pretty good, better layout and view of the raw CWM but on the HOX i prefer using the CWM, i would love to see a port of the best recovery out there, the 4EXT
It is the Evita version, on ATT. I decided to RUU it and start from scratch. this time however i am going to use Hasoon2000's all in one kit instead of the traditional method. ill post an update in a little bit to see if the roms will successfully flash second time around
Ok so after re unlocking the bootloader and re rooting the phone. TWRP v2.3.1.0 still fails to flash roms. which doesnt make sense because it was able to flash superuser. does anyone have an explanation for this or do i have to flash CWM?
Update: was able to successfully flash CM10. must have just been those particular ROMs.

You might want to check out the EVITA forums, then. This one is for ENDEAVORU.
Advice and software you find here is likely to be wrong.
I know this thread is old but im having EXACTLY the same problem. and i looked in the Evita section and theres nothing. i have the At&t version too but the only rom i can seem to install is cm10. ive re flashed several versions of twrp and still the same thing happens. ive recently s-offed my device and im wondering if thats the reason for my troubles. did relocking and running the RUU solve your problems? can you flash other roms now or still only cm10?

hey guys so i just got my inc 2 a couple days ago and of course it has the newest update and software which prevents me from downgrading to .97. So i decided to go the HTCdev unlocked BL way. Is there anyway i can flash custom ROMs and still have root access without downgrading to hboot.97?
any help is appreciated THANKS!!
sure can, if boot loader is unlocked, look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435228
OK here's a problem though. I cant flash the CWM recovery because i need s-off and i cant get s-off because im unable to downgrade with my new system software. Any way to flash custom roms without CWM?
What about the ext4 touchescreen recovery. I am using it and it is nice. Download the app and then it installs the recovery. Not sure if that will help I have s off so this is new to me. But might be worth a shot.

do you know you this is the post your talking about? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26296376&postcount=276
yeah, thats it i think, but i haven't had occasion to use it yet, so i don't know how it works, keep in mind you'll have to relock your bootloader to use it, i think. research it a little before you try
so whats the difference with having s-off compared to s-on?
you won.t have to flash a boot image everytime you install a rom, it also enables you to flash radios. you can't now. but no biggy.
I'm so confused as to how to do this
I saw a thread that said:
Since you can go to hboot, that is good enough to check your CID.
Be in fastboot mode and type this :
fastboot getvar cid
I don't know how to do this at all...I just got Android
I have an HTC One V through Virgin Mobile in the USA , I accidentally wiped E:system because as I said i'm new, so I need the CID for the RUU file *have questions about that too, but let's find my CID first*
EDIT: I was trying to install the titanium kernel for overclocking, i erased the cache's and did a factory reset, accidentally cleared the system which means now it has no OS. Before anyone asks, yes i'm obviously rooted and have the bootloader unlocked.
As you have a VM device, you don't really need to find the CID.
Put your device in fastboot mode, relock your bootloader fastboot oem lock and run this RUU RUU_PRIMO_C_ICS_40A_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.08.652.6_Radio_1.00.00.0521_2_NV_VM_3.46_0503_PRL61008_release_262414_signed.exe
Download from : http://htcruu.com/?dir=Primo
Or put in any cdma custom rom and use that to have a working phone. Just follow each ROM instruction carefully.
Yea I wanted the stock RUU. I relocked my bootloader it said "relocked" at the top when at the boot menu, is that correct? Also once I download and run this program you linked, what do I do then? Thank you so much in advanced for the help
That's correct. Just run the RUU and sit back.
If there are errors, maybe you need flash the stock boot.img and stock recovery.img first.
Just run the RUU first and report back any error. There are stock images around this Q&A section if needed.
Here you can have the stock boot.img : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31902114&postcount=8
Here you can have the stock recovery.img : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1193349&stc=1&d=1342100874
(rename it to recovery.img after you download).
Or here is a good explanation on how to get it done : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32849485&postcount=5
Also, the kernel you were trying to use is for the GSM version. Make sure anything you flash is for the Primoc/CDMA.

I think most of CDMA users are sleeping at the moment.
That is the kernel for CDMA device, whether it is proper or not, not so sure as I am not a CDMA user. You can always try, if it is not working well then you can revert back with the kernel that I posted earlier as that is the stock kernel for your device.
So just try anything that said work with CDMA or PrimoC but NEVER the GSM or PrimoU

Well I tried that one, went into recovery and installed from Zip, it said success in TWRP, but I go into SetCPU to mess with the overclock stuff, and it says only 1000mhz, it's supposed to be at least 2k from the Kernel...
Nevermind, I think I got it. I can now set it to over 2.0 ghz, but that will be unstable and mess with my battery so i'll keep it between 1.2 and 1.4 Thanks again everyone so much for the help =)
If you are still running the stock rom or any ICS rom, I would recommend the latest Sickkernel from Simonsimons34(don't remember the version number). Download the zip, open the archive with 7zip, copy the boot.img to your fastboot folder. Reboot your to bootloader, flash boot.img in fastboot, "fastboot flash boot boot.img". Then reboot to recovery and flash the zip file.
I have used the all in one toolkit. I flashed the kernel. And now if i put any rom to my htc he loads the loadingscreen but then reboots again and again. Code:

I've been trying to install a custom rom on my hox and have had very little luck. I read that to install the CM10.1 rom I had to flash a new boot.img which I did successfully. when I tried to install the rom I got a different error than usual so I decided to just give up. I went ahead and did a factory reset from CWM and cleared the caches and then tried to restore my backup rom image. but when I did, it gave me an error "unable to mount sd". I was able to fix the SD problem but the method I used made me return to stock recovery and then install TWRP. This means I lost my backup of the stock rom.
I think I need to flash a stock boot.img over the one I tried to use for CM10.1 but I'm not sure.
hopefully someone can help. thanks.

to flash the boot image, I extracted the rom zip file and removed the boot image. I went into the cmd and typed "flashboot flash boot boot.img".
to flash the rom, I moved the roms zip file onto the storage of the device (drag and drop) and then went into CWM and cleared the caches, did a factory reset, and then selected the zip file to be installed.
here is a picture of the error I got when I tried to install the rom: see attachment
the error is on the second line of code in the updater-script file. other attempts to install the rom gave me an error on the first line until I read that the first line had to be deleted for it to work on the hox.

CWM might be the reason the rom installation was aborted but I just want to return to stock. the stock rom is installed, I think the only problem is that the boot image is wrong. I searched around and can't find a stock boot image. I saw some tutorials on using RUU to do a restore but it seems a lot more complicated than just flashing the stock boot image. if you think RUU is the best method, please help me pick the correct RUU.

I think I'm just going to RUU. I google searched the hboot and radio numbers from my phone and found a thread where someone had the exact same numbers so I think it makes sense to use the same RUU. here is the info for my phone:
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.14.0002
RADIO-0.19as.32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC-boot
I tried using the 'fastboot getvar version-main' command it doesn't give me a number, it only says "version-main: " which is weird.
anyway the ruu I'm considering is called: "RUU_EVITA_UL_ICS_40_S_Cingular_US_2.20.502.7_Radio_0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25L_release_271865_signed"
will that work? I think I will forever brick my phone if I use the wrong one.

Firewater doesn't work anymore. HTC patched the exploit.
You'll have to use SunShine S-Off. It costs $25, but is guaranteed to work or you don't pay.
Having S-Off is totally worth $25 IMO.

The stock recoveries or in that link too. I'm not sure if you need them for sunshine though. Try with custom recovery, if that doesn't work, get a stock recovery.
Or get both ROM and recovery stock, then reflash a custom recovery and ROM.
If you get both to stock, you shouldn't have any issues.

First, I misunderstood your earlier question. Yes the number in front of the backups are for firmware.
To help you more, I'll need some information. Hook up your phone to your computer and start ADB. Then issue these commands:
adb reboot fastboot (wait till your phone boots into fastboot)
fastboot getvar all
Then post what the readout says here, but edit out your serial number (serialno) and IMEI for your own safety.
Then I'll be able to give you a little more guidance.

Your CID is ORANG202 and your firmware is 1.54.73.5, so you will need the backup that corresponds with that.
The backup available was made with TWRP recovery. So you'll need that. (In my opinion, TWRP is a better recovery, less issues)
You could go to their website to download it and get instructions on how to flash it, but there is a much easier way.
Go to the Play Store and install an app called TWRP Manager. Hit the three line menu thingy on the top left, and pick "Install TWRP".
After that go back to the stock backup thread and flash the backup that matches your CID and firmware.

Firmware updates. If you have one fresh out of the box, Firewater would probably still work. And still does for some.

My friend has made a comprehensive guide on firmware and firmware flashing, complete with downloads. Make sure to read the whole opening post so you understand everything. It looks like it might be hard because of his full explanation of the whole process, but it's actually very easy. And very informative.
