charger port issues - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

does anyone elses oem charger fit snugly but still wiggles and seems loose? i done have anyone elses to compare to locally

Mine is solid and tight. I would take it back and exchange for a better build. If you purchased on a 2yr contract, you're going to want that charger port in top shape.

yeah got mine on a two year deal , bought it from a sprint imobile stand in the mall since the corp store had none, corp should still exchange it right

same and same issue...not gonna bother with returning it though, too much of a hassle....ill just have to deal

Mine wiggles too :S

It's the cord, not the port. The plastic goes to far up the plug itself and doesn't allow it to seat fully in the port. At least in my case it was. I was going to return the cord but too much of a hassle... I ended up cutting back some of the plastic with an xacto knife so that more of the plug stuck out and it fits nice and snug now I can take pics if you want. Not the straightest cut job, but it works

I had the same problem, so I try my photon microusb and it fit tight, so did the kindle fire one. So all you need to replace is the cord.

I discovered it must be the cord when i used my ns4g one and it worked just fine.
I will post pics when i get home tonight

Sorry I don't have before pics but as you can see I cut it back to the end of the plug itself to where the metal cage thing behind it starts. This way enough sticks out for it to stay in there I started with as little as I could then cut back to where it is now. Need a very sharp knife, this stuff is tough. I used xacto blade but a very sharp razor may do the trick. Hope this helps! Sorry for duplicate pics

Is there a skin/case that would fit over the Powermat dock door for the Evo?

The Powermat dock door comes with a blockage that plugs into the usb port and keeps it covered when its on, and the case for the Evo I have now wont fit over the new dock door, so is there a case that anybody knows of that would.
I second this. I would love to get a case that covers the new door as it is larger than the original back case.
-Hank
what cases do you have? I would think a Gel case (I have the one from Sprint) might have enough give in order to stretch around it.

What I am trying to figure out is why the hell they designed it with that nub. If you want to usb to your computer do you have to take the battery cover off? Or how about charging in your car?

I currently have a Trident Cyclops case. Now, me being me saw this post and looked at my case and said, "Surely this can be modded to fit." The other voice in my head said "This can be modded, and don't call me Surely." Any who, I wanted a Powermat for some strange reason. Do I really need one, you ask? Doesn't my battery last almost all day anyway, you ask? Yes, but who doesn't want something that passes electricity wirelessly through the air to their phone? So off to Best Buy I went to blow my niece's Christmas present money on a shiny new door and base charger. After a few hours with a dremel, some sand paper, a file, and my utility knife, I had a hard case that supported the nub and the slightly thicker door. It being my first mod ever of sorts like this, it worked out all right. Looking at it, you would not notice any modded difference other than my knife slipped while trimming the rubber flap that covers the USB and HDMI ports and a few mishaps with the dremel (that thing spins REALLY fast!). I wish I had something to post screen shots with of it on my phone, but I am too lazy to break out the DSLR at the moment, It's beddy bye time. Any way, I am pretty sure that the second time around I would be able to mod the case so you would not notice any difference from stock other than the rubber door being trimmed. This mod also allows for me to remove the connector from the door to the USB plug with out having to remove the case at all, and easily too, in case I need to throw the USB cable in it to link to my computer. If any one is intetested, PM me and I will throw up some screen shots tomorrow night. When the holidays are over and my wallet can support it, I may blow my other niece's birthday cash on another Trident Cyclops case and redo it to perfection.

And if your only concern if the USB plug, it is actually a separate piece that easily removes from the phone in case of needing car charger or USB cable for the computer without needing to pull the battery door off.

Cheap Ebay Kit Review

Hi everyone!
So I purchased this cheap $9 kit on Ebay in hopes that I wouldn't have to spend to much on accessories. It comes with a car charger, a retractable usb cable, a wall charger, a screen protector, and an argile pattern tpu case. Im Just gonna go through each item very quickly and then leave a link at the bottom of the post.
Car Charger:
Pretty basic, one end goes in the car, the other in the phone. It has a coiled cord, so it won't tangle, and it is pretty light. I feel like I could step on it (accidently) a few times and it won't break.
Wall Charger:
Same as above, without coiled cord, and it doesn't plug into a car.
USB Cable:
I actually like this cable a lot. The cable is wrapped around a sort of wheel, and you pull on both sides (one end is usb, the other is micro usb) and the cable extends. Pull on it again, and the cable length will shorten. If you don't understand what I am saying, sorry. Check the pictures in the link.
Screen Protector:
I was actually fairly surprised by this protector. The installation process requires no water, and it only took about 2 minutes. It doesn't feel rubbery, and it does not scratch easily (took the house key to it). My only issue is getting the last few air bubbles out on the side, but I'm sure they will disappear in a few days.
TPU Case:
Very thin case that has a cool looking design to it. It goes on the phone easily, completely conforms to it, and leaves all the ports open. Also, the buttons are easy to hit. It raises the back of the phone just enough to make it so that it isn't resting on the camera, and when you rest it on the screen side, it has a lip that keeps the screen from hitting the surface you are resting it on. Does not add any noticeable bulk or weight to the device.
I am actually really happy with this purchase. I thought that since it was cheap, all the parts were going to be complete crap. I was completely wrong, and I would say that everyone should definitely get this kit (or a similar one because he sells a few different ones).

you forgot to put the link
Or some pictures?
I was so focused on that leak that I completely forgot. Thanks for the reminder. Pics are in the ebay store. If you need more I guess I could take some of my own, but it's literally the same thing that is in the store.
I have that exact case in smoke and clear...it's fvkkin legit bro. My daughter knocked my phone off my work bench in the garage and sent it skidding across the concrete on its face! I picked it up...zero scuffs, scratches or marks! On NYE my 2yr old nephew grabs my phone off the couch and when I ask for it, the little **** hurls it at the wall. Zero damage again! lol Hell of a buy, I got a package deal like the above too.

Excellent cheap sync cradle for the T-989

I got 2 of these off eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SAMSUNG...159056?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f0f089010
They are meant for the "standard" (AT&T or International) GS2's but it fits my new T-989 perfectly even with the DIZTRONIC TPU case on it. It probably fits most any device with a bottom micro-usb port on it. It comes with a removable rubber adapter for smaller devices. Not bad for $11 from China. Got it in about 10 days. It's a knockoff of the iPhone Universal base. No audio out ports. Just sync/charge.
i purchased the Original from Samsung only $40, and it comes with extra 1850 mAh original battery with NFC

Ok, but that is $29 more than $11 and most people don't need a $29 battery and NFC is useless for the most part. Plus it doesn't work with a case. Other than that, GOOD DEAL!!

Can you post pics of your T-989 w/ TPU case in the dock?
Do you know if the USB transmits audio and if it has a back 3.55mm jack?
I ordered two of the Sinjimoru Sync stands. They're cool looking and lightweight. I removed the two lock tabs on the cable that make the cable stick in tighter. I'm planning on mounting them to something that won't lift up easily when I try to remove the phone. Overall, worth the $22.

The stand you are linking to doesn't charge or sync. That stand is just a holder with no connection directly to the phone. 2 totally different things with totally different purposes.

It fits my T989 with the Diztronics case no problem and will fit any similar "thinness" case. Snug, but no problem. I looked at the D30 case the other day and put them up against each other and while the left to right size are identical the front to back on the D30 is a bit more and my guess is it wouldn't fit. I was surprised when my Diztronic case fit but it did NOT need to be forced, just a slight push. For $11 you really can't go too wrong.

thanks I ordered one
They are still tight on the base, and would tip over if you pushed them. They're fairly stable, but it is kind of a pain to use one hand to hold the base grab the phone.
I did fix that today. I went out into the alley behind the loft and grabbed a brick. A few minutes after meeting the dremel and a little bit of epoxy, they're stable.
http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6233/6366960059_565143ef63_b.jpg
That's what the stands look like mounted to the brick, and in the Body Glove Diamond cases. I did play a little with some LEDs and lighting the bases up, since they're clear/black acrylic and the light travels through them. I'm going to hold off on that for now, but maybe soon.
to choking am a bit confuse on ur pic is that just a stand whit out the option of charging or a stand whit charger?
There is a cable that comes up behind the stand, and snaps into the stand. It charges, and I bet you could use the stand for other phones, but I can't guarantee that. I know it works fine with the T989.
Well thx for ur response ill see if i get my hands on one this on up coming week

Proclip mount shipping - works with extended battery!

Good news for all you Proclip fans,
I just recieved mine today and it works with the Samsung Extended battery just as well as the standard battery. There is a 1/2 in space behind the phone that should allow for even the most extreme extended batteries to fit as long as the battery cover does not extend beyond where the original battery cover fits (like if it wraps around the side of the phone it will not fit).
I ordered Proclip part number 513331 (Hard wired install).
Proclip doesn't disappoint either, this mount is just as awesome as the one for my old DINC. Nice and sturdy.
I'll post some pics later when I get it installed.
As is typical with proclip mounts, the mount is designed based on the physical dimensions of the phone (specifically the sides of the phone) so cases that change those dimensions will cause the phone to not fit in the grooves correctly.
Pix of the proclip in action
Grabbed a couple of pics for anyone interested.
Looks good, I had the incredible one too, but imo it was a little to hard to get in and out. Unfortunately since I already chipped my phone, I'm too scared to go naked with this phone. Plus their price is just too high for me.

I wont argue that they are spendy - I already had the base part but it's like $100 for both pieces for newbies.
But I do get something that no other mount has been able to offer me - this one is wired into the car, I can use only one hand to put my phone in it, and it doesn't fall or move when I press too hard. Considering the Verizon one is $40 and a POS it seemed worth the extra.
But yea if you have a case it's not so good.
does you phone fall if you turn the screen for navigation ?
I just ordered Proclip's adjustable mount 875214. Hopefully it will work well with my diztronic case. It grips near the bottom of the phone so it shouldn't interfere with any of the buttons or ports. I'll update after it arrives with the results!

Well for those who aren't aware, these Proclip holders come in 2 pieces: The first is a custom-fit bracket for your particular vehicle, and the other is the actual phone holder.
So let me start with the holder. The one I got is adjustable and holds my Galaxy Nexus with Diztronic case extremely well. It's snug but not difficult to remove, and leaves plenty of room behind the phone for the craziest of extended batteries. A+
Then there's the mounting bracket... I selected 853616 for my '07 Impreza. It hooked in behind the panel just fine and it is made of the same plastic as the holder which was nicer than I expected.
Unfortunately, it goes downhill from here: This particular bracket is a bad fit. All the angles are off, and as a result the adhesive backed sections do not contact the vehicle properly. Even if they did, the adhesive is so weak that I'm not sure it would stick. I'm going to have to pull it all apart and go to work with some thick double-sided adhesive tape of my own in order to deal with the gaps and get it installed properly. Not cool, especially considering the whole kit ended up costing me about $60. Now, there's lots of different brackets for lots of different cars out there, so your mileage may vary.
At any rate, it does a much better job holding the phone than my cupholder did.
Got mine a couple of days ago.
As has been noted, they come in two pieces. The piece that holds the phone is very, very nice and will definitely work with any reasonable extended battery. It's very snug, but not too snug, and the fit is perfect. I got one of the powered versions and it's fantastic.
The car mount piece, for me, is of similar quality. The fit is near stock and the thing is damn near impossible to remove.
As a unit, the two pieces are rock solid.
Highly recommended. I wouldn't hold out for the Samsung three pin holder. I had that same holder (minus the three pins, obviously) for my Nexus S - and this one is far, far, far better.

That's what I had to do for my wife's Civic. She got the car mount that affixes to the center console and that one piece of double sided tape just wasn't cutting it. I used a heat gun to remove the factory tape and then liberally applied tape to all parts contacting the console. It's been holding steady for over a year.
Proclip should probably give people more sticky tape - but I think the reason they only use a single piece is because they tout that the proclip doesn't damage the car and it could be argued that uber liberal amounts of double-sided sticky tape could potentially damage some surfaces. In the civic it’s all plastic so it’s NBD to use a heat gun and remove any residue, but if was a BMW with an oak dash then I could see people complaining.

I don't think any case would work with the proclip because it is a very snug fit and yes it takes a fair amount of pressure to put it in. Not so much that it will move the dock but certainly enough to keep the phone from coming out accidentally.
The only reason the extended battery works is because there is nearly a 1 inch opening behind the phone and the battery cover does not extend to the edge.
Yes the headphone jack is open but you would need a connector that is straight. A 90 degree connector would not work.

DIY Z1 charging dock and magnetic charger cable

Hi,
People used all sorts of stuff to make DIY docks for the XZ, cardboard, plastic, wood, duck tape etc... there's a great thread here with some great low tech solutions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167089
it'd be interesting to see if the Z1 gets the same DIY love?
Anyway, I've got my z1 today and now need to make a new dock/charger cable and car dock, sadly I'm going to have to start from scratch as my wife wants the ones i made for my xz.
I have some spare sugru and pogo pins so will post back later this weekend once I've put something together
EDIT: added pictures of my first attempt at a maglock cable, it works but is not very neat, the pin polarity is the same as the XZ, the top pin is positive
method:
put some soapy water on the charger contacts and push the sugru in to take an impression, peel off the sugru impression and let it dry overnight( keep the sugru impression thin, the soapy water stops the sugru sticking)
solder pogo pins to tails of an old USB cable
stick pogo pins through the contact positions in the dried sugru impression
use more sugru to make the plug, adding a magnet behind the impression
let it dry
mine comes unnattached from the phone too easily at the moment, but I'll modify it with a longer stronger magnet, although it will do for a desk stand or car dock where the phone is held in place, thus not relying on the magnet to get the contacts in the right position
Pictures of my home made dock using bits left over from my XZ dock
Wood back, Perspex bottom screwed to wood with pogo pins pushed through 1mm holes in perspex and held in place with a bit of glue. Then used a bit of sugru to position the phone in the exact place to make contact with the pins. No more plugging in at night.

This is exactly what I am looking to do with my wife's z1. Planning on using old fashioned wood and a couple of nails to act act the contacts to the z1 charging points to which I'll solder to a stripped usb cable.
My question, as I don't want to damage the phone: which contact point is which? I assume one is gnd and the other 5v, but which is which?
Thanks,
