[Q] What is status of GNex volume issue? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I bought a GNex when it came out but had to return it because of the volume issue -- I couldn't hear calls, GPS navigation, etc. But I kept tabs on the GNex because otherwise it's a great phone. I saw that Volume+ worked for awhile but latest JB update broke it.
Anyway, I'm thinking about buying a used GNex and giving it another try. What's the current status of volume levels on the GNex -- both stock and custom ROMs? I prefer stock but will go custom if it really solves the problem.

I have a gnex . low volume issue can be fixed easily . a few options to fix it:
1) download zedge app , it has cool ringtones and notification sounds and more. Pick loud ones. Problem solved
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC56ZWRnZS5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
2) Download a ringtone maker app , u can use the music you downloaded onto your phone as ringtones and notifications .
Any app that you can download ringtones and notifications from is good.

The Gnex has a volume issue?, mine is very loud without any mod, maybe its rom related?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I used to have this problem but with the newer roms I haven't noticed any of these problems. I do flash xlouder that is in the apps and theme section and it does help a lot.

The only volume issue I have is YouTube videos are impossible to hear.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

I haven't had any problems with the volume on my GNex but if you do come into some sort of problem maybe try downloading an application like Volume+, that should raise the volume.

My gnex with rasbeanjelly rom + trinity kernel is very loud even without the volume performance adjustment for the trinity kernel. (trinity kernel allows three levels of extra volume boost)

AFAIK most CM10 based ROMs has boosted volume, perhaps some others too. Also we have at least two flashable mods in development section.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app

Install a custom kernel and install the louder patch available at the development section. That will give you a louder sound on speaker, headphones and earpiece.
Sent from my Nexus Prime JB 4.1.2

Yes, CM10 ROM has increased volume. Very loud

Thanks for all the replies and great tips. I'm definitely going to be picking one up then.

Personally, I want to modify the volume from within the stock based ROM I'm running. I do not have an interest in custom ROMs and would prefer not to have to use an app. No one seems to have a legitimate solution to share.

So you don't want to flash custom roms, yet want a feature from custom roms?
Anyway....

No sense being a smart ass. You have it exactly right. I do not want a custom ROM in any way shape or form. I simply want to integrate the volume adjustment into the stock ROM, which I'm assuming is what you just linked, but I haven't checked it yet.
Also, a higher max volume output isn't a "feature". Perhaps you should refer to a dictionary before attempting being a smart ass.

does follow the next Version 2.7.20 too?
i used IT since 2 days and IT feels smoother than Stock miui
thanks for the rom
ROM updated to MIUI 2.9.14. Feedback are welcome. :highfive:
sounds great so i'm going to try and report back.
Q1: how come the file size is a lot smaller than the other miui flavours?
Q2: do we need to flash the gapps if needed? or is it built in?
Do we need to install gapps with this? Also what is 30 step volume feature?
Also can anyone who tried this rom tell me if there is lag on this? Thanks.

yep it looks like you'd have to install gapps if you need them.
yep there is still a wait to wake up to lockscreen, but smooth other than than, just like the other miui roms.

The file size is smaller maybe because I didn't include the whole gapps package in it. Anything that can be downloaded from Play Store are not included e.g. Gmail, Youtube, Google Now, etc.
The 30-step volume control gives more fine grain in adjusting you media/music volume. Originally there are 15 steps between mute and max volume, this mod increases the steps to 30.
I don't know how to fix the default lockscreen lag ATM. A workaround is to use the "Simple" lockscreen or any other ones from Themes app.
Ok thank you mate. The volume feature sounds very good because idont like the maximum sound in other miui ports. Its very low. So with this feature sound is ok in your rom i think? Also last question before i flash. Will you add weekly builds in fridays?

+1 And if possible DPI options.
Sounds promising. I needed so much "volume rocker wake", I will give it a shot.
I hope you add more missing features from previous MIUI and some cool ones from other ROMs. Keep it going.
I installed this ROM. Now the screen display has become little blueish.. Even the white background looks dull and blueish. How to solve this?
Thanks
EDIT : The color issue solved after installing the latest Franco kernel.
Nice dude remember you back in the nexus s forums. Got a question, is volume wake included in the stock MIUI?

[Q] Speaker Volume: Stock vs AOSP

I had been running Lifeless for the longest time until recently that I was able to figure out a way to get whatsapp working on AOSP ROMs. I noticed the speaker volume on stock ROMs is louder than the speaker volume on AOSP ROMs. Is there a way to adjust the speaker volume on AOSP ROMs so its as loud as stock ROMs? Thanks!
Edit: In-call volume is really low too... I noticed some AOSP kernels have louder speaker volume but not in-call volume.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
I'm interested to find out about this as well, specifically for headset volume. AOSP volume is way lower than stock.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Same here, the volume is much lower on CM 10.1 than it was on stock software. I've also noticed that phone calls won't play through the 3.5mm audio jack, although that is probably a separate issue.
As an aside, the numbers are meaningless, but I use my phone for music in my car, and while 30 used to be a good comfortable volume level (though certainly loud, but that's my preference), now I have to go to 40 to get approximately the same effect. I also have the loudness compensation in the DSP equalizer set to "stronger," now, which I wouldn't have done before.
If anyone has any info on any of that, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: Max volume on my car stereo (a basic Alpine model) is 40, I noticed today. I'm probably tearing my eardrums apart, but I have the phone turned all the way up too and it's not very loud (relative to my previous phone, a Motorola Photon 4G, or stock LG software on this phone) at all.
Hey guys, I have found that if you are into the changing and tweaking if you have 'trickster mod' some kernels you can actually change the fixed gain under "specific" then "sound control" hope that helps

you know.. im not sure.. i would assume if you turn up the fixed gain throughout the speakers it would apply to all scinerios. i have noticed that during even the screen lock it gets LOUD! sorry im not able to look at the moment im trying to figure some things out on MIUI
I figured that I'd bring this post back up since its pretty much relevant to my question.
All stock ROMs for this phone, from ringtone to notifications, have a crisp sound to them but AOSPs in my experience don't. The sound seems tinny or "grainy" if you will. Is there a fix for this I'm overlooking?

I haven't found one... The weird part is some say they have no issues while others (like you and me) notice the difference.

Update: using TricksterMod donate and tweaking the sound settings definitely helped the volume. I've attached a screenshot with my current settings. Actually, the phone's loudspeaker sounds too loud for it's own good on max system volume. I keep it turned down a couple of notches. Headphone volume is much improved, though. And I don't have to worry about it being grainy when I'm using the headphone port, of course.

[Q] Ringtone and Notification Sounds unlink?

Now that we have S-Off, I have been going over the ROMS that are showing up. I need to know if anyone can point me at a ROM where the Ringtone/Notification sounds have been unlinked. I cannot stand the fact that they are tied together.
Thanks

+1 I am surprised nobody including myself has brought that up yet. It would be fantastic!!
I just realized that they are together and it's really annoying....
I am with you, it is driving me crazy. Basically all the original development roms work, I have tried Vanir (even donated, it works great) and the cm rom. I ran Vanir as my daily driver for about three weeks. The only issue I have with these are (and it may be my imagination) is the sound and camera. With stock you get Beats and I swear it sounds better. You also get the stock camera that has ZOE (which I don't fully appreciate yet but never will if I don't play with it). Also no Blinkfeed (oh, well, darn!) Audio Control from Play store is the only app that I found that will compensate, and it works pretty good. I wish I did not have to use a 3rd party app to make this work. I think it works by tricking the phone, sort of. You select custom ringer and select that level. Notifications and ringtone are still the same but it grabs the call and resets the volume before it rings and then lets it go after it's done. Very clumsy way of explaining but I know it works and allows me to use whatever notification sound I want for individual apps. Most of the other apps out there will over ride these settings and use a default selected tone.
I looked at the Audio Control app and a few others. None of them really did what I want. Like you said.... clumsy approach.
I keep thinking one of the ROMs has to have this feature. The CM 10.1 JB variant for my Droid3 has this, so I am not sure why it does not show up more often. If I was talented enough coder ( and brave enough ) I would build a ROM myself.

Yep, me too. I script a little bit but any of the code that I've fooled with is copy, paste, cross fingers. Like I said above though, Vanir and the CM roms have this feature, but you do have to go into the sound settings and uncheck the box that says link them together. I think all the ASOP based roms are like this. I'm giving Ecliptic (Sense based) a spin right now. If you hold down the home key on this one you get the expanded menu with quick settings, and you can independently manipulate them there, but it does nothing. I hope that at some point this will be picked up and fixed. I've posted a few requests for this feature in the various threads but only one developer came back with a reply and it was basically that he didn't know how. I just don't think there is enough people that notice this and are bothered by it for a developer to look into it. Same thing happened when I needed a kernel with driver support for the Galaxy Tab plus. I was trying to crack WEP for pen testing with the tablet and could not put the nic in promiscuous mode. I finally made my own kernel but only with limited success. Just don't have the talent.
"Ringer & Notification Volume Unlink" module for xposed works though it does not show them unlinked in settings. I have an old Sound Manager app and sure enough, it worked. I can now schedule quiet times for the notification and reduced volume for the ringer and night. WooHoo! Working on Stock Vzw M7_1.10.605.10.

I flashed this but I'm not hearing any gain with this mod on CM11. I've used your other sound increase mods (on both TW & AOSP ROMs) and they were excellent. This time no discernible difference. I did try manually replacing the snd_soc_msm_2x with your AOSP version, it boot looped so I went back to OEM. Ideas?

im checking it out right now on Beanstalk 4.4.2...just creating a backup at the moment. is there going to be a fully boosted volume version? when i was on wicked sensations i had a sound mod extreme that i downloaded from their updater and i loved how loud that was. will post back in a few for the results
update: its a no go. did not increase the volume at all. tried flashing a few times and still nothing hopefully it gets fixed soon, i really love to have my phone loud. thank you for your work though.

works great running liquid smooth 3.0 .Doesn't seem to have any effect on Bluetooth volume though. If there's a way to apply it to Bluetooth volume that would be great .I don't use wired head phones just Bluetooth so I can say if it works on wired headphones or not .

Good looking out. Mod works on Sprint Hellfire as well.
Only two small issues. As someone else mentioned, it doesn't appear to effect bluetooth call volume. Another issue I've ran into is when I am in a call and switch to bluetooth, everything works fine. The next call I make will have very low volume. I have to decrease the volume and then increase it in order for it to work at regular volume.
Is there any way to undue this? I flashed it without first creating a backup and I don't want to restore a backup from weeks ago... I enjoy this mod for most things (listening to music, car aux, etc) but when I'm in a call with someone the lowest volume setting blows my eardrum.. I have to hold the phone about 2 inches away from my ear.

Use Retired 4G Touch as WIFI Media Device?

I've upgraded to Note 3 and my Galaxy Player 4.0 is getting very long of tooth. Recently charged my retired 4G touch back up and have been using it as a media player.
Has anybody else done this? and what rom are you running? I have Touched by S4 2.2 on the "phone" currently and figure I could go with something way more stream-lined. Interested in any advice on minimal rom with outstanding battery life while maintaining good wifi use as a media player. I do a lot of radio streaming and will be placing a pretty large music library on the sd card.
Also would be interested if there are any power button replacement apps or mods in roms (that mimic LG's knock knock feature perhaps) to extend the life of the old phone's power button. I got a refurb shortly before upgrading to the Note 3 for this issue so I'm leery of the power button failing again.
On the bright side, I'll always have a back up phone with me to activate if something happens to the Note.
Thanks for reading! and thanks for any advice.

+bilgerryan,
Saw the post on your Project X thread and I'd help beta your efforts on a meda player rom.
Don't know if the Galaxy Player rom is the best base for efforts or not though. The stock rom on the Galaxy 4 isn't really anything ground breaking. There are Jelly Bean and Kit Kat roms now for it but I haven't been successful in getting them installed.
I'd be just as happy with a stripped down minimal rom with good music controls and strong battery life. Don't know if this could be done with aggressive de-bloating, or if porting the player rom is better. Maybe a couple profiles: one for battery life and all day music playing, and another souped up for using it as a game device.
I'll keep an eye out for a new thread.

I'm just using it as a model to strip most of the phone type stuff out, I'm using CM10.1 as a base for a more streamlined, stripped down ROM with less bugs. I won't be doing much with it besides making am initial build for those of you that want it... until I retire my device. Don't expect anything spectacular because I still use my device as a phone.
Maybe "until you retire it" as a media device.
What about a stock based Gingerbread rom like Calkulin's?
Super duper fast because it's GB. And battery life can't be beat because of less overhead. He also has music skip mod integrated. Plus he has a bloatware removal tool to lean out the rom. Only issue I forsee is some play store apps may not be compatible with Gingerbread any longer but who cares right?

Rom download links are gone but I posted a fresh download link a while back in the last post BTW.
I still have quite a bit of stuff stored here. If you can't find something let me know. Cheers - TD
Edit: I have done many mods for that rom. They are posted throughout the thread.

I already have it, and that's another thing I was looking at because the Galaxy Player's stock ROM is GB. This isn't gonna be quick just something I'm tinkering with because I'll eventually want it when I upgrade at tax time.

Yup, there are going to be a lot of long faces...
GB is the way to go. Extremely fast, way more battery friendly and I think I did extended toggles and some init.d tweaks for it too.
