What's pushing me towards this phone:
Native Android, ICS
What's pushing me towards Verizon NOW:
LTE, double bandwidth deal, unlimited loophole
What's keeping me away:
Signal problems.
My CM7.1 Evo on Sprint has its own issues but I have a grip on those and am generally happy with the setup. I could wait for a few months for the issues on the GN LTE to get resolved. But the bandwidth promo and the loophole won't last forever. If the problem is in hardware like the previous Samsung GPS problems, it might never get resolved.
How I do lock in the Verizon goodies without getting stuck with a lemon phone? Get the Rezound and hope for ICS soon?
What to do??
just go for it, if you have good reception in the areas you visit most of the time
if you just want ICS even the old Nexus S i9020 have official ICS 4.0.3 which i'm already using
to me it sounds like you want more the data plan, than the phone LOL
Read some of the other threads -- particularly this article. I personally have no issues with signal other than inside my work building (which is to be expected; it was the same with 3G).
I personally think it's all FUD, same as the iPhone 4 "antenna-gate".
I want both. It would suck to sign up for the phone later after it is working fine and then not have the bandwidth deals available. But then the phone might never be fixed. I also want newer hardware Nexus S is an idea though...

I do happen to live in a relatively urban major city that should have good LTE coverage, so the switching might not be such a big issue.

All I saw is unlimited loophole lol. Is there still a way to get unlimited data or are you referring to something else
I'm switching plans from T-Mobile in hopes that Sprints unlimited data will be able to serve as a home internet out in the middle of no where. Knightsen, CA if you have to ask.
With the 5GB of data not being enough and I can hit that in a matter of a few days of my average data use. Let alone I have the $30.00 prepaid plan now that gives me 100 minutes, unlimited text and data(lies imo).
I just would like a few questions answered before I finally make the switch:
Is this phone easy to root? Super One click?
Roms doing well? I'm using EaglesBlood with Faux123 kernal with the messed up battery readings that are driving me nuts sometimes but get alot of hard use out the phone.
I somewhat use the HDMI mirroring but the phone will go to my wife. Will I have any issues with the screen vs the G2x having some LCD bleeding?
All in all I just want this phone for unlimited calling now for work, unlimited data from home and just want a cheap phone with a low plan.
I was reading about having to pay for a hotspot plan but would I just need to root the phone to be able to turn it into a hotspot for free? Or would I have to use a app like this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.USB&hl=en
if you pay for the hotspot your data is not unlimited. That is all I am going to tell you. The rest of the information you are looking for is here for you to read.

Paid hotspot is not unlimited, however the hacked hotspot that comes in many roms and mods is.
Easy enough to root, run the one-click-root and you're set.
Can't really comment on battery life/screen quality, as I've never seen the T-Mo variant to compare it to, but based on my own usage, there's no screen bleeding and the battery life is excellent, especially when compared to another 4G device
As a home internet connection do some investigation about sprint data speeds in your area. Most places aren't sufficient enough lol

I live in San Jose, a few hours away from OP. There is pretty good 4G coverage here, which I tend to depend on since 3G is VERY slow.
I made the switch from T-Mo to Sprint the day the Epic Touch was released and be prepared for slow data speeds. On my Samsung Vibrant, I was averaging ~330KBps down on 3G (not even HSPA+ that they now have available), with Sprint I get about 50KBps down with 3G..
4G wimax speeds are much better (tops out at a 1MB/s down for me, ~400KBps near my house) BUT coverage is spotty and possibly non-existent where you live OP. Not to mention that due to the frequency of wimax, it doesn't penetrate buildings very well so I tend to get the best 4G signal outdoors.. I would seriously contemplate sticking with T-Mo for the time being. There is no guarantee that unlimited data will stick around when Sprint upgrades to LTE this year BUT Sprint 3G speeds should improve drastically from what I've read. I just wanted to give you a heads up before making the switch, good luck!
This phone is pretty easy to root. Method I recommend is sfhub's auto root script to obtain root and install cwm recovery (see 2 videos below). Once you follow both videos you have full root and CWM but a stock kernel and rom... with the ability to flash any ROM/kernel currently available if you wish to change.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be2evusAwOM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZRnH-_XZmM
I would highly recommend checking coverage for your areas before making the change just to make sure you will have decent service in your area.
Phone is awesome, and so are our developers.
I switched from the g2x, myself, but I was very happy with the g2x -- just hated tmo and their bs policy about throttling (I agree with the idea of throttling, just not to 8kbs speeds!).
The E4GT is an excellent phone that you'll love. I, too, use it for home internet, and where I am, my coverage is acceptable. I get about 4mbps download, maybe 300kbps upload, but there's only one spot in my house that gets reliable 4g reception. Please note that there's a hack available to allow your phone to get better 4g reception, and you'll definitely want to do that if your area's coverage is spotty: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265990.
Best of luck, and enjoy your new phone!
To cds0699 and Erislover I would like to thank so much for the posted info. I'll look into those 3 things before and after I get the phone.
As for the spotty coverage I think I should be ok as there is a data tower about 2 miles away. http://maps.google.com/ mapped it out
Even if I only get 3g and its not as fast as my t-mobile I am still only getting about 500kbps.... which is so horrid it takes for ever to even download some few MB apps.
After the issues of using the phone for internet and even if it was the same speed as my T-Mobile I would still want unlimited minutes + true unlimited data when I'm running around at work.
Plus I can get the E4GT for $80.00 that is a steal!!!
Awesome, sounds like you've done your research
One last thing I can think of is that the micro usb port on the bottom is an MHL port. What that means is you can get an MHL adapter (I think they're like $10-$15) and use that with an hdmi cable for hdmi out. I haven't personally used this because that's not something I would use, but I have heard of others doing it without a problem.
I aquired the ATT version and sold it because
1. We don't; have LTE and won't for another upgrade
2. I like the lower battery and data consumption of the FM Radio
3.We share 1GB data on legitimate Family share plan with one International "(dumbphone SGS II i9100) and my International Note I declared as a smart phone to get the family share plan. (cannot get that UL messaging Talk shared data plan with two "Feature phones" I am using the APN that came with the ATT version I upgraded for and sold on my Note.
4. The development community is huge already and FW udates are realesed there first. I am already running XXLA on my Note 1.

1. I live 30 min from ATT headquarters. LTE blows hspa+ outta the water.
2. I get 6+ hours screen time and 2 days off charger on my lte note.
3. Upgrade your data plan.
4. Development? Its not hard to learn and teach yourself. You will notice nothing between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2, except some settings moved around.
5. 7100 ROMs work on the att note.

I "get it" You love the ATT version and you develop your own ROMs however I am asking people on ATT using an International device in an International forum who do not develop ROMs if they would have preferred the ATT version now and why. Not who already has the ATT version and loves it. That said it seems seems no one on ATT is unhappy with their N7100.
I Don't need to use much data with the FM Radio. Why pay for something I am getting free or worse I won't use? $115 a month for two smart phones is a bargain. .Another $300+ a year for 4GB of unused data not so much....
Regarding LTE speeds, we all know the frustration of downloading a 700mb ROM on 'high speed" cable at 100kb a second despite our measured 15mps download benchmark speeds on Speednet. LOL
3G+ is plenty fast enough for most web browsing which is ultimately dependent on the web site. LTE looks great on speed tests, on paper, and may save a few minutes here and there downloading and may be very nice for someone who does not have another form of Internet source most of the time. But a few extra seconds of page loading won;t make a whole lot of difference on a mobile device as long as video and music streams seamlessly.
I don't have the time and especially the inclination to learn how to develop code for these devices, I'd rather have a choice of using another's passionate work with the shared results of their hobby.
Those of us without LTE for another year or so don't need the ATT badged phone. I had it. I tried it. I flashed a Rom on it. I sold it cheap .I am holding out for a great deal on a 7100 because I have the ROM already and can wait another $100 or so for the rest of the Note 2 goodies.
I am very happy with my international N2 on AT&T. My 3g speeds average 6-7. There is not LTE where I live, nor will there be for a good while. I have no real concerns about having LTE on my phone with limited data...
I'm fine with the International version. No regrets.
No regrets here. LTE is a long way off where I live. HSPA+ is plenty fast enough.
Thanks guys. I did the right thing. Now I wait for a better price while I rock XXLSA on the N7000
What APNs are you using? Cingular wap or ATT Phone?. I l am on using the Shared data plan I upgraded for with the option of switching back to the MediaNet UL data plan.
I'm using AT&T PTA. I get 6-8 down on average. With wap cingular I only get 3-5 down.

Thanks Good news I am glad I got the new SIM then and provisioned for a smart phone.
I have no regrets. I have the peace of mind knowing that AT&T hasn't tampered with my device in any way in order to monitor activities and/or limit features that are present to me out-of-the box. As for LTE, it's pointless to me the way things are right now. I mean, what need have I for a connection rivaling my home internet speeds, when I'm faced with overages or throttling? HSPA+ is plenty for me.

I just ordered on on Newegg for $599 shipped.... I agree with LTE. I have high speed internet here at home and downloading 700MB ROM files at 100KB/sec reminds me LTE is not all that. Websites determine speeds more than the carrier. The only clear advantage to LTE is when downloading or uploading large files otherwise web pages load in seconds on 3G rather than instantly. Not bad.
I put my phone up next to a Verizon SIII and compared my MediaNet 3g with their LTE. Thier's was faster by a few seconds in some cases and not even by one second in others.
can't you just disable the LTE radio (to save battery or if your area doesn't have LTE), or does that disable data/service entirely?

I bought the International version of the Note 2 and coming from the Note 1 AT&T LTE the battery life is not even close. The note 2 gives me well over 10hrs of heavy screen-on set to auto+high, net surfing over HSPA+. I could not get 1/2 that on my LTE Note 1.
As far as disabling LTE... For my wife, coming from the Skyrocket there was an APN that would disable LTE, however the radio was still there so the battery life was not helped as much as turning it off would have been. Trully turning it "off" on the Skyrocket was not an option. For her I opted to get her the T-Mobile Note2 and unlock it and she is running on AT&T HSPA+ as well with great results.
Bottomline: Getting between 8-9000kpbs is plenty fine with me, especially if it gives me even a fraction of extra battery

Yeah I thought that might be the case. Mine is on the way from NewEgg. I tried the ATT version but I am too used to a vanilla Samsung device. I actually like Samsung without the ATT stuff (although I don;t use TW. ) I tried the CM and AKOP stuff but too much flashing going on and samsung does not release drivers so FM didn't work without a $10 app and the S Pen stuff was wonky. .
The stock custom roms always were my choice. I would find one development team and stick with them. DesignGears on the Cappy, CheckRom on the i9100, Eybee, N7000 and looks like Omega will be my choice with the Note II
Hi All,
Just like to ask from the users of the LTE and the WiFi only for Nexus 7 2013. Is the battery life a bit shorter when it is LTE? What I mean is if the battery being affected when just using the LTE version at home via WiFi but the radio/network is on because it is LTE version (Data is OFF). Or is there a way to turn off the network when just using at home to not consume more battery.
I'm planning to buy the LTE version to make it ready for data when using outside but my concern is the battery life when just using it via wifi.
Need your advise.
Thanks in advance!
LTE will drain battery much faster. LTE is a hog. I disable it on my Verizon galaxy nexus when not needing 85mbps. 3G 7mbps works fine.
So yes it will. How long? I dunno. Would be cool to see a WiFi vs LTE stream Pandora and how long they last.

even if using it via wifi at home and the lte data is off? will it still consume some battery? i wonder if there is a way to turn off the radio/network.
You can turn off the LTE radio using airplane mode. You can turn on Wifi while in airplane mode.
With the LTE radio off, there shouldn't be a difference in power consumption between LTE/Wifi version.

Airplane mode disables the mobile radios, but only acts as a toggle for Bluetooth, WiFi, and maybe NFC. If they are on, it will turn them off initially, but you can turn them back on.
I've been thinking about purchasing the LTE version but I've been worried about the lack of development and ROM's for the LTE version. By any chance, are the ROM's cross compatible with each other? If not, I may just have to settle for the wifi version since there's a lot more support for it. :T
Those who have teh LTE version and based in US:
1). Which carrier you picked for the LTE service?
2). How much does it cost and how much data did you get?
I am thinking of getting the LTE version and get a data plan that cost not more than $30 but gets me 3GB of data (unlimited is nice but that's a rarity these days).
If LTE is really such a hog, I haven't noticed it. The tablet easily gets me through a day of use (3 hours commute by train alone, then some music and web browsing during the day) with 20 to 40% battery left when I get home. I've been using it for 2 days without charging thrice and it had 10 to 20% left when I was back home. And I haven tweaked my tablet for battery operation, it has pretty much everything enabled all the time with a slight OC going as well.
LTE just enables that much more usage options for me and cuts out the bother of having a bluetooth or Wifi connection to my phone, which might effect the phone battery life as well (and phone is more important on the go than the tablet). Plus, my phone plan is cheap, but slow data, whereas my tablet plan is cheap with great data.
I have had the 32GB WiFi version and that battery was much batter than the 3G/LTE model. The WiFi one could go days before going dead and the 3G one takes a day or two. Yes I have it on WiFi at home but it's no where near as good as the WiFi only. Maybe I got a bad unit?

IMO, when I buy devices, phones/tablets, I typically wait a bit to see how development goes, and base my decisions on developers/development working on the units. In this case, I did not, I bought the LTE device and wish I had bought the wifi. Depends what is important for you, mobile data or just jump on wifi when available. Not to disparage the development for Deb, but flo has much more support like you said. Right now I am on stock rom/rooted with Elemental X kernel. Runs great, but right now I am just following particular devs that I like and see how things go. But overall, if you like switching things up you might be better off with flo. To answer your question, some devs make their rom work for both flo and deb, whereas others will be either deb or flo compatible and will state such in the OP. You cannot take flo and install it on deb without issues.
Has anyone had any experience with the G3's hotspot rooted or non-rooted? Any experience with signals or stability would be greatly appreciated.
A little sob story background: I live in a neighborhood that the Teleco companies have completely neglected. Even though I live in america I only have dial up. Our phones get the very Edge of sprint's LTE network but I'm running a Galaxy S2 with Wimax (which wonderful sprint discontinued a month after I bought the phone) So our only means of internet is a 3G and what little LTE my family can pick up with their various phones. I'm a gamer so I'd like to be brought into the highspeed age finally. Hotspot reliability will make or break buying the LG G3 and I'd love to get a little feedback of what to expect.
Thanks!

Works just the same as any other device for me, been using it a lot for my chromebook had no dropouts or issues.
Would I be able to use this phone as a hotspot out of the box like I can with my Nexus 5 or would I have to go through my carrier for that? I use my Nexus 5 as a hotspot for my Nexus 7 when I'm out and about. I wouldn't want to have to start paying monthly for that function.

Should work out of the box like any android phone
Are you Verizon unlimited, and that's why you're asking? If you just need something, what about FreedomPop? I know, I know - sleazy company - but they're wedded to Sprint's LTE/WiMax exsting network (if you're close), and you might be able to rig an antenna/amp to pull in that LTE. It's what I do to get V (and formerly AT&T) in my basement.
I'm keeping an eye on this thread, too, as I'm curious. I've got a JB iPhone to get the hotspot and keep my unlimited. I actually use the hotspot about once every 2-3 months, and usually for less than 1/4 of my phone-only data, so it galls me to consider adding ~$500/yr for those couple times I need a sip of data when I'm on the road. I'll be switching to the G3 as soon as its released, and seeing how it's like on the android side of things.

But does every phone work out of the box with tethering? I'm on T-Mobile with an older unlimited data plan, if that helps.
Coming from a Nexus 4 and 5, tethering was always an option in the settings. My concern is whether or not it's still an option in a skinned version of Android or will I need to add tethering to my plan and use a T-Mobile branded app?

Does freedom pop have true unlimited? No hidden data charges and all the data I can handle? I've used about 30gb in the last month on my 3G connection and probably another 20GB in the last 4 days on my mother's LTE. This is using Sprint's unlimited data plan. I burn through the GB and 5-10gb a month just wouldn't do.
EDIT: Just checked and no Freedom pop doesn't Calculating the data charges for my current useage would cost me about $2000 a month. No thanks.

This is why I need to know how native tethering works on a G3.
Tethering is the same as any other android phone. The G3 supports wifi, blue tooth and USB tethering. How this works with US versions of the phone I dont know. In the UK tethering is monitored and controlled by the network not the phone, so the phone still has the capability. If you have a plan that allows tethering, and you dont have a crippled version of the phone there's no difference, its just like any other android phone.
