[Q] Note 2 root or not - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically I root and install custom rom of N7100 to my N7105...
In the end, the phone got corrupted ( no service-didn't backup efs partition, S pen literally dead, phone auto shut down )
Soon I went to the telecomshop to get a refurnish N7105.
However when I did a restore from my samsung account, there were " SuperSU, Titanium backup & apk installer.
Here's the crux : Is my note rooted by the telecom shop? Can those app be use?
PS: [ main reason I root android is to use gamecih ]

Probably not rooted. Can you use Titanium Backup?

You have no root now.

You're not rooted. You can download and install any root app, such as SuperSU, on a non rooted phone. It just won't function properly, since it doesn't actually have root access.

[Q] Lost root with 4.1.2 update, how can I re-root?

I lost root with the 4.1.2 update and I'd like to get it back. I went a little crazy with all the Gameloft deals and ended up with about 16 gigs worth of games, so I had to root to be able to use Titanium Backup to store everything on my SD card. I was running the stock ROM just rooted and didn't uninstall or change anything. I can't find anything else about how to gain root after the update that doesn't require flashing anything. Is there a one click option for me?
1. Download the apk from this thread and install it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
2. Hit "Root Device"
3. Profit

Well, that was easy.
Thanks!
A Freakin' Amazing!
I also lost root during my AT&T 4.1.2 update, tried re-rooting via Odin, did 3 softbricks & resets & basically had given up on root. Then I stumbled upon this method, tried it & can't believe that anyone would rather root via Odin. Thank you so much!!!!!!!
I want \ need to root my note, is this the preferred method?

HELLL YA, It easy as tapping a button and having root within less than 5 seconds...
Don't see why, lol.

Questions before I root my note 2

1. Is my phone less secure when I root?
2. Is it safe to still use my banking app?
3. Which recovery should I use?
4. Can I go back to stock without anyone knowing that it was rooted?

1. Is my phone less secure when I root? No
2. Is it safe to still use my banking app? Yes
3. Which recovery should I use? Twrp, for me its nicer, and gives me the option to name my backups.
CWM is awesome, don't get me wrong. I've used both extensively. But I found TWRP has more advantages.
4. Can I go back to stock without anyone knowing that it was rooted? Google flash counter reset. I've sold plenty of phones that have been reverted back to stock, and tripping the counter. Are you worried about the carrier finding out? Or voiding warranty? You won't.

Wow thanks so much! One more for you, if I use Exynosabuse to root how do install twrp?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Or do you recommend using a different method to root and install recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Its simpler to just use the note ii toolkit. And the guy above isnt quite right. Theoretically the phone could become less secure but it is fine as long as you only allow root permission to apps you know are safe
Where can I find the tool kit?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Nah just go to the market and in stall goo manager and once you open the app hit your menu buttton and slect flash open recovery and your good
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
But my phone would ask me if an app was asking for root permission right?

It will pop up SuperSU permission as your installing TWRP I just did the ExynosAbuse root + GooManager install of TWRP last night in fact!
I also suggest note 2 toolkit. Its so simple to use..
You can find it under the development section. I'm too lazy to search for it lol

I found that goo manager sometimes cant find the note. It says it isnt a recognized device. Hence why i suggest note 2 toolkit.

I'm not sure how it could be less secure. If anything it could be more secure if you change the default root password. Never did on Android but did all the time on iOS. Also, most apps this user will download will come from the Play store. Which are safe.

Less secure in that apps can have more control over your device. And not all apps from the play store are safe and with root the malicious properties can increase if you aren't careful. And if you have adb over network enabled people can do even more damage with root rights

You will have to unroot before updating phone. You can easily unroot from superSU
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
There are possibilities that you may receive the update and it may not unroot the phone , but certain times after update you may loose root access.

Use Mobile Odin with EverRoot option and you will keep root access.
root and unroot

[Q] best way to root tmobile note 2 sgh-t889

I just got a note 2 and I would like to know what's the best way to root my device without any problems?
If you just got it then I'm going to assume you don't have any important data!
Flash a stock rom with root injected! It's literally a stock touchwiz 4.1.2 rom with superSU. It always doesn't mess up your counter and you can get official OTAs from T-mobile.
The link is here.
What ungraph said. I ran mrRobinson's injected rom for about 7 months before I ended up on tweaked. It works pretty well.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

Thanks, silly question. My service provider is Metro PCS even though this is a tmobile phone, will that have any interference with the root?
So no one used Galaxy Note2 TOOLKIT V4.1.0 to root their android? I used this to root my S3.

Be sure to read all step and choose the good option for your phone. I choose recommend options except for the recovery I choose the cwm instead of twrp.

KINGO Android Root
I just found an app that supposedly will ROOT any Android phone. It is called KINGO Android Root.
FYI - Just completed my Root and it took ~ 3 minutes. I know it is rooted since I can now use Titanium Backup Pro.

e98010p is now rootable

hey folks found this fix to the root issue for the 10p update in q&a thought id post it here.this is the thread where the fix is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2633262 here is the fix

JL969u is the user who posted this fix make sure to goto the original thread and give him thanks.
i think there a easier way
just use titanium backup to convert superuser to system app
Here is your root in english, no need to watch video.
Supersu has been uploaded too.
After root install superSU and do as promted, it will remove the installed root app.
Now go to apps and uninstall the chinese app that vroot installed.
For OCD clearance do a wipe ?

If you've got root, try running freegee. Don't know if it works on the 10p update as I immediately downgraded when I got my new phone.

I'm sure it worked great. Google vroot, and Kingo. Both are known to be malicious rooting apps

Crap well I used it. Right after I rooted I did remove the superuser install the one I traditionally use. Deleted the original and updated the binaries twice. I guess I will have to live with it.

Well the problem with vroot is that it supposedly Logs and uploads IMEI Numbers to servers in china(possibly). The idea around that is well they could use those IMEI numbers to take a stolen phone or Chinese phone and give it the uploaded US IMEI and then create a activation outside of the US.

Well, just dog the same trick as stated within the Universal Root thread - quickly press the home key after the 2nd LG logo appears and the back and menu button flashes at the bottom, self tested.
