odd sd card problem, help? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

i have a sandisk 2gb sd card and another 8gb sandisk card, but one of my friends scrapped a 16gb internal sd card out of an htc surround7. the 2gb and 8gb cards work perfectly fine in my epic 4g touch running blazer rom and either agats kernel or the kuban kernel, but the 16gb card wont mount in the phone, and if i pull the card out, it causes the phone to reboot. ive done the same thing on my friends evo 3d and my brothers galaxy s3, and had the same problem. it also wont mount on windows 7, 8 or linux mint. any ideas on the problem/ how to get the card to work?

i had the same problem with an 8gb card even when i put it inito a card reader via usb the card actually started to heat up. i sugges you to throw it out and get a new one its not worth messing with it

it didnt heat up, theres no problem with the contacts or anything, i think the filesystem on it is corrupted, and that could be fixed if there was a way to mount it

it wont mount to my pc in windows 7,8 or linux mint either through the phone or with an sd adapter. i need to find a way to reformat it

Sounds like a bad card

Any way to fix it though? Anyone I can ask? Or is it just a waste of silicon and copper at this point?

I don't think these can be fixed. They are really cheap to replace though. I think my sandisk 16gb was about $10 from eBay.

Eh no biggie. It was free anyway. What's a good price for a class 10 32gb? I saw a sandisk in target for $44 which seems steep, and RadioShack had a class for $22
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

The current rate seems to be about $1 per GB. You can probably pick one up on eBay for less though usually lots of auctions on these. My sandisk is a class 4 but speeds are good for my use

64GB Microsd Card(Not working for our phones?)

So i was anybody has a 64gb microsd card from sandisk in there vibes. I currently have one but im having issues with it in all roms. My computer reads it and the phone recognize it and i try formatting it but after it formats it acts like nothing happened.
Edit: Nvm i seem to fix it, had to go back on my g2 and reformat on that phone then bring it back to my vibes.

It can support 64gb Microsd cards from Sandisk. You have to insert it in your vibes and it will appear that you have a error n your sd all you have to do is format it and you have a working 64gb card in your phone. I'll pot picture later on for proof. I'm currently putting most of my music collection in my phone so it may take a while.
pocket now says original galaxy s handles it fine, but i'm gonna wait a few months till i get sgs 3. hopefully by then it will be cheaper too

Which SD card did you buy, can you pose link, thank you.

Blank SDXC card since this morning

I've not seen any messages from other users anywhere in this section of XDA. So i was wondering if any of this sounds familiar to anyone of you.
I bought the 64gb SDXC card from Sandisk 2 weeks ago. Formatted it in the phone when prompted after i inserted it. After this i used it for over 2 weeks and had no problems whatsoever..
This morning i woke up and the phone said it had a blank SD card in it and asked me if i wanted to reformat it...
Since i have a lot of pics, video's and other personal files on it. This is really not on my wishlist.
This weekend when i get back home, ill try to recover my files and try to reformat the SDXC card. Which i bought from a proper store so it's really not a fake since i paid over 70 euro's for the thing.
Was just wondering if more people have been experiencing any problems with these cards? Or what might be the problem with it. Furthermore, when i formatted the card in the phone itselve. Dit i formatted it into FAT32? I think it was still Exfat myselve, but this is just a Q a friend asked me.
Oh btw, i did not root the phone, so no SU or other tricks. Just a stock version.
P.s. Sorry, i had my eyes shut when posting. This should be in "Questions section" My apologies to the Mod's
Looks like your card corrupted and might still work if you format but I reckon you should get a replacement.
Hmm that's not really the answer i was hoping for. Since the card is only 2 weeks old. And what sais the new card won't be corrupted either then within 2 weeks. I am not looking forward into spending 70 euros every other 2 weeks for a new SD card and losing my data all the time.
There must be some cause to what made this happen..
Sorry mate but when this happens it's almost 100% certain the card's f ***ed, I mean it's happened to me plenty times and if you keep the card you just sitting on a timebomb of lost data.
Maybe if it's a faulty card i can get a new one since i just bought it 2 weeks ago thrue warranty service.
140 euros for 1 card is too much..
Yeah it is a faulty card so they have to replace it, but tell them this has happened more than once though because it just makes it easier.
It helps if you tell us which ROM & kernel you are using. I had the same issue with 2 of my 64gb when using AOKP with Siyah & his exFAT vold.zip mod. Since I have two 64gb cards, I formatted one with exFAT & FAT32 on the other in linux. I'm currently using AOKP & a FAT32 formatted 64gb card with no issues.
I do have a nandroid of Omega 6.0 so if I need exFAT on my 64gb for large movie files, I can go back to that.
It happened to me 2 times., when I first put my card in it said it was blank and asked if I wanted to format it. I did and the next day it said the same thing. Then I format it in my computer put the card back in the galaxy and said the card was blank. Fat32

As i said in OP i'm using stock ROM. I did not alter the device in any way.
Got my money back. Can buy another in time. Will do with 32gb now. Kinda worried it 'll happen again. Since Samsung never officially announced the device to be compatible.

Ist more a kernel thing... reading exfat, ntfs, fat32 and so on, so normally compatible in sdxc means the kernel can read exfat. Otherwise you have to format to fat32
Twiz kernels support the exFAT fs but AOSP/AOKP does not and card has to be formatted with a FAT32 fs in order to work in those ROMs... I had this same issue were my card stopped working after a week or so as well. I purchased it from Amazon so I have been able to return it for a full refund but I've been seeing more and more similar issues so am not sure if I should order another 64GB or a 32GB... either way, definitely try and get a refund, good luck!
It's a format issue. SGS3 has a problem with exFAT above 32GB of storage which eventually corrupts data after a certain amount of data has been reached on the sdxc card IIRC, so you have to format it to fat32 if you are planning to use more than that. Problem is windows cannot format 64GB in fat32 format, so you need to find 3rd party programs to do such task.
I believe 32gb exFAT is fine as plug and play however.

format 64GB micro SD card to fat32

I purchased a Sandisk 64GB micro SD card through Amazon. I got the card and put it in my phone and the phone said it was damaged. It wouldn't mount the SD card to format it. I tried to format it with my laptop, but it would not give the option for fat32.
I did a Google search and found this.
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
You have to use Dos commands, but it formats the SD card to fat32 in about 3 seconds. Needless to say, this has to be done on a Windows computer. Mine is running Vista.
BE CAREFUL! IF YOU AREN'T PAYING ATTENTION, YOU COULD FORMAT THE WRONG DRIVE AND MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER!
(If this is in the wrong place, please move to the correct forum.)
I'm sure most of you already know how to do this. I just figured I would post it for people that don't.

If it won't format in the phone, it may be defective. I went through something similar, I ordered a 64gb class 6 card off Amazon a few months ago. It was made by "Komputerbay" & had good reviews, but would not format at all in my phone. Wouldn't even mount or anything. I sent it back & ordered a Sandisk, and it formatted in my phone right away with no problems.

It's not defective. I'm using it in my phone right now. I find it interesting that people are able to mount this card in their phone when, out of the box, it's in a format that the phone doesn't recognize. Also, without a workaround, you aren't supposed to be able to format anything over 32GB to fat32.
This is my understanding after reading up on it anyway.

There's also a gui version of the utility that worked when all other found the card unreadable. Took all of 10 seconds!

I have followed the tutorial and have formatted it, but windows still reports a size of 27.4GB which would mean 32GB.
I have a class 10 64GB card, i can format it in exfat no problem, just not fat32.
Any ideas?
Just in case someone has this problem
I was trying to format my sandisk 64gb that was formatted in exfat but I was having an error message saying that the card was being used by another program but there was nothing using it. What I did was that I formatted it with windows 7 to NTFS and after it was done I used the program again and this time it works. To make sure I put my card in the phone and formatted it with the phone also. I tried to formatted it in the phone before and it was formatted but it stayed in exfat. I want it to be FAT32 because the clockworkmod recovery touch can't access the card formatted in exfat to make backup. Now I will try it with fat32 which they say it will work.
Try to get another recovery like twrp, it let's you use your external sd.

[Q] microSD card died

I had a SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDHC Class 6 32GB (formatted FAT32) in my Galaxy S3 with no issues for about a month. Then one day I was at work, unlocked my phone and got a "SD card has been unexpectedly removed" notification. After that the microSD card wasn't recognized in the phone, my laptop, nor my desktop PC.
Has anybody else had this issue?

question is, where did u buy the sd card it might of been a fake, their are multiple sdcards which look good and real but overall are fake due to the ability to operate in heat, so it might of overheated and crashed(died) its a big issue with fake sd cards out there, they usually go out or burnt due to not being able to take the heat of the phone. On normal operate the sd card should be able to take 40 to 45C which make it 90-100 Ferenheit, if its a real SD card it should be able to take more then this and reach upto 65+C or around there.
easy ways to spot a fake is if ure saving files on ure phone and it says u got a class 6 or class 10 sdxc card and its operating less then it should, it crashes on u when trying to open a file or it resets itself and tries to scan again for it. in many cases it will get too hot and burnt out, or it just stops operating out of the blue.

I bought the card from Adorama (a photography focused site) in April. SanDisk is letting me RMA the card (just got that approved last night). I just want to make sure it's not my phone causing the problem. Up until the "unexpectedly removed" error, I never had any issues with it crashing or having to scan for itself again (unlike the class 4 I was trying to test the card slot with right now).

If that's the case have u tried varies card readers or card ports to see if it could be the unit itself..... However if it does out that way, I believe scndizk does back this up with a lifetime warranty if ure sd card does stop operating and then should be able to replace it.

Even so the gs3 should be able to read ure 32gb flawlessly since it's supportive to sdhc, now it does also supports sdxc which is expected from higher performance sd cards to not be able to read or install correctly on the gs3 unless u format to extfat or fat32. Chances are u might have a bad sd card. By default their storage capacity is 32, after that, that's where u need to take does drastic measures. Try formatting it on ure computer, if it doesn't format then ure gs3 should read it, if it doesn't format u already know.
Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying, this caused it to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the media scanning process.
I created an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card, and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
I just published this app in the play store now, this is the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sdcardmonitor

I am having the same problem with a dual sim D858 G3.
Have tried Sony, Samsung, Sandisk MicroSDXC cards of various capacities, none work.
Anyone have a solution ?
Hmmm, investigation with a torch and loupe revealed that one of the MicroSDXC reader pins were bent down.
Managed to lift it with a needle and now it works fine.
This was on a new phone, wonder if other people's problems had a similar cause ?
Format the SD Card in storage settings. It should format and be useable
Try couple things:
1. Try (may be borrow from a friend if you don't have one lying around) a different brand name card. Some generic brand cards (especially from eBay) are little flimsy and does not provide proper contacts. It happened to me on both HTC M8 and LG G3. Tried SanDisk card and all went well.
2. Try formatting the card using PC into Fat 32 format (you can always reverse this formatting to ex-fat) and see if this make any difference.
3. This one sounds very basic but under storage, sometime you have to manually click on "mount SD card".
Good luck!
Ok try this
1- but it in lapttop slot (card reader of laptop ) dont try another way .
2- use SDformatter 4 .
3- ok now put it in your device.
I hope it will work properly

Have spoken to a repair shop and what they said is that this is a typical issue with the LG G3, another one (which I also see a lot) is spontaneous reboots, even when the phone is seemingly doing nothing. And these issues get only worse over time. The only way to solve them is to replace the mainboard, which probably isn't worth it. Looked at alibaba.com, they are around 30-40 USD. I have reflashed the stock firmware in my futile attempts to get both issues solved, but it is obviously a hardware issue.
Yeah stopped working too. I've noticed an issue with a pin in the MicroSD card slot. I imagine this is the issue. I'll open it up when I have time.
Take the card out, insert it in a PC and check it for errors. DiskGenius or MiniTool Partition Wizard can help you here. DiskGenius can also check for partition table errors.
Also make sure the card is formatted exFAT, not FAT32 or NTFS and that the cluster size is either 8K or 128K.
If that doesn't work back up your files, format as exFAT with 128K cluster size, then copy the files back. You may have to do this anyway if a partition table error is detected.
