[Q] Restore - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking to restore my Xperia Play to out of box firmware.
I have flashtool but not sure which firmware is best to use. I am in the UK.

Here you go my friend.. http://www.mediafire.com/?6o7ckox953vyk3a
Download it , place the ftf file somewhere (best place is actually firmware folder in the flashtool directory) click the little lightning logo on flashtool and press ok, then find where-ever you put the ftf file and press okay (leave the boxes ticked as they are) then follow the instructions to put ur phone in bootmode and let it do its thing!
Enjoy!

Thanks!!
What version is it and also will it put baseband back to normal aswell?
Thanks

Correct. Be warned though be sure to use the correct ftf file. There are numerous ftfs for the various play be sure to flash the right one because there is ftf for R800x, R800i, R800a, R800at.

[Q] My WiFi won't work on my Play! Ahhh

Ok, so basically my Xperia play used to work fine on WiFi on (2.3.2I think?), but have been on 2.3.3 for ages; and all my WiFi does on it is connect, disconnect, re-connect. This will go in an endless loop and I cannot use it
I updated to 2.3.4 hoping it would work afterwards, but no, still the same problem.. It there a simple fix for this? Or will I have to downgrade (if that's possible) to fix it?
I haven't tampered with my phone at all, it's an UK factory unlocked one.. I REALLY need my WiFi back..
Thanks in advance!
Might be a conflicting app or something, couldn't you just backup and flash the newest rom or 2.3.3 rom/erase data and see if it works?
An easier way would be unlocking the bootloader, flashing doom's kernel and backing up in CWM then reflashing etc

3. Put the .ftf file in the firmware folder of the extracted flashtool program
4. Run the flashtool program select the .42 firmware from FLASH button, check wipe user data, Turn of the phone, hold back button, plug in usb to computer, wait till it goes green and run flashtool
5. Wait till it finishes, turn phone on, wait... wait... done!!

Ok, I reflashed, and it still does the same Any other suggestions? I might have to end up using 2.3.2 (I think that's what I was on before when it worked), would that be my final option? Thanks

I would suggest that you first try a hard reset on the router. If problem remains check if you can update the router firmware.
What router model is it?

Try connecting to other Wi-fi networks if it's still not working then try changing some wifi advanced settings by pressing the options buttin on wifi settings and select advanced, change the channels, if it still doesnt work go back to 2.3.2 and if it works fine from there then...?

[Q] Stock .42 ROM

So originally my phone was on firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 straight out of the box; it was carrier free too so no carrier bloatware. I had the phone rooted (kept the bootloader locked) but my phone developed a physical fault so I had to send it in for repair. Before sending it off I unrooted my phone via SEUS, which upgraded the phone to firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62.
As I understand, that firmware cannot be rooted. So I want to revert back or downgrade back to the Stock Carrier Free UK rom of version .42. How do I go about doing that, whilst keeping my bootloader locked?
Just flash a generic .42 ROM with FlashTool

Cheers man. But I don't know how to flash (to a locked bootloader phone)
Also, once flashed, can I use the zerGrush tool to root again?
If you use Flashtool it will do all the work for you EVEN with the locked bootloader.
yes you can use ZerjRush

Just noticed, there is no LT18i firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 for the Arc S, just firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 which is what I don't want
1) Hey.. If u see.. on the same page, u'll find a pre rooted .62 firmware.. Flash with that.. u'll not need to root it explicitly..
2)to flash any ftf u'll need the flash tool.. if u dont have it.. here is the link...
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Download the flashtool for windows and install.
3)after installation check for the firmware folder under the flashtool main folder(where u have installed the flashtool)
4)now copy the downloaded .ftf file and paste it under the firmware folder. now 5)open the flashtool and click on flash..
6)now a popup window will come, select the first option of flash mode and click ok. the .ftf file will be listed automatically
7)dont change any settings and click ok
8) now flashtool will ask for the phone to be connected in flash mode..
9)so switch off ur phone and connect it to PC via USB by keep pressing the Back button on ur phone. Once it is connected, the flash tool will start and complete it work. after the flashing is done remove the phone and switch it on.. Click thanks if this helps u...

Flashtool Guide - NOTE: for Xperia ion to enter flashmode hold the Volume Down while plugging in the USB cable to flash an FTF
Xperia ion Bootloader Unlocking & Relocking
How to Create an FTF file of Your Xperia Firmware (credit to Vijay's Tech Encounters)
What you Need to Create an ftf File:
Sony PC Companion or SEUS
Flashtool and its updates if any.
Internet connection
Xperia phone of course.
Warning and Disclaimer: Take a backup of all important data like contacts, call logs, SMSs, apps, APN and other settings before proceeding further. You may have to perform a clean install of your OS. While for all practical purposes, using Flashtool is safe but there is a very very remote chance of damaging your phone. You've been warned.
1. Install Sony PC Companion and/or SEUS. This will copy the necessary drivers to your PC. Connect your phone with USB Debugging enabled and allow your PC to install the necessary drivers.
2. Connect your phone and update or repair your phone with the latest firmware version. If you update/upgrade, your data will be preserved. If you repair, all data may be lost. So backup everything. Now, your phone is updated with the latest firmware. Keep put aside. We don’t need your phone anymore to create the ftf file.
3. Go to C:\ProgramData\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\13740270\blob_fs folder and look for the biggest three files. The folder “blob_fs” may be located in a different place depending on whether you used PC Companion or SEUS. Perform a search for that folder if you can’t find it. Once you are inside the folder, sort by size and see the 3 largest files were just created (when you updated/repaired your phone). Copy them to somewhere else like C:\firmware.
4. Install Flashtool and open it.
5. Click Advanced > Decrypt Files.
6. Select all the two files and click the right arrow to send them to the right side and click OK. In a moment, you will see a Flashtool pop up window that shows all the decrypted files. Select all the files except the simlock.ta and partition-image.sin files as those are not needed and can cause flashing issues sometimes. Click the right arrow button.
7. Type in the device model next to Device (ie LT28i, LT28at, LT28h), firmware version number next to Version (not android version), and branding next to Branding (For branding if it is not a carrier branded device use Generic or the customization number of the device) and click OK.
8. In the Device Selection window that appears, select your phone model and click OK.
In a moment, your ftf file will be there in the default Flashtool folder C:\Flashtool\Firmwares ready to flash.
If you are going to upload the firmware for people please zip the file first before uploading.
I have the ICS 6.0.C.1.357 for ATT (not official yet) installed in my ION and I want to backup the firmware from the phone but I can't boot in recovery using fastboot (I have tried with recovery-nozomi.img for xperia S).
Is there another way to backup the firmware and create a ftf?

Not that I know of. Where did you get the .357 build from and how did you load it on your phone? If you have the files from that we might be able to do it.
I did an update using sony companion because my phone can get testing versions so I do not have any file.
I want to root it but and I do not want to lose the ICS that is installed.
I think that there is a trick to get the firmware from the sony companion update but I have to come back to a previous version. I do not know if I flash one of the stock version that you uploaded then I will be able to get the update again and get the firmware (which is the goal).
By the way my phone's bootloader is unlock.

And you have the lt28at? Did you get the phone from somewhere "special" and you are saying its ICS? Can you take a screenshot of your about phone page and stuff and post it.
I always get the files to make a ftf from the Sony ericcson-> update service-> db-> blob_fs folder using the two biggest files in the there.
Surprised to see you say its ics when it is only now going into testing with at&t and typically Sony doesn't put out testing version through the commercial software.

Do you have flashtool installed? It will make it much simpler.
1. Install Flashtool
2. Go to Advance->Decrypt Files
3. Choose the folder of the PC Companion
For me, it is C:\ProgramData\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\13740270\blob_fs
4. Select the three files that begins with "FILE_"
5. After finishing decrypting the files, select everything in the folddr list. Enter device as LT28at, version 6.1.C.0.357, Branding ATT, and disable final verification.
6. The generated package will be under the firmware folder in the Flashtool folder

Here is the latest FTF for LT28i (Still at 2.3.7).
Seems smoother than the previous version.

You don't need all three files just the two biggest files. Also when making the FTF do not include the simlock.ta and partition-image files. Those are not needed and sometimes can give people flashing issues.
Is that an official released firmware or do you also get test firmwares? I have the .72 LT28i firmware loaded and I'm not getting an update notification and SUS is saying I have the latest firmware.

just flash .96 firmware ftf file through flashtool......
Please provide me the links where I can get the original firmware.

Mohit. I have downloaded this file but when I paste it into flashtool's firmware folder, it doesn't recognize the file. It is a zip file and when I unzip it, I get a lot of files with .sin extension. Please suggest me what to do. I have installed every driver, put my fone into usb debugging. Allowed unknown sources, boot loader unlocked, almost every thing is done but in the flash mode when I klik on flashmode, I get a pop up where I have to select the firmware, but the zip file or its extracts are not shown there.

help with stock firmware

Sooo, my backup is gone :crying:
I've tried restoring the stock firmware with flashtool, but i just cant seem to get it working :/
I go into the flashtool and select the firmware but nothing happends (i am in fastboot)
- Is there a stock firmware that is flashable in TWRP?
1. you need to see proper flashing tutorial,
2. once you download stockrom via XPERIFIRM (last button (right) on FLASHTOOL )
3. create ftf file (automatically)
4. now select firmware and when flashtool prompt, connect device in FLASHMODE (not fastboot mode)
it will flash
make sure you have the LATEST version of flashtool and all the drivers are installed

1. usually autodownloads via Xperifirm goes at C:\Users\<user>\.flashTool\firmwares, however if this is not the problem and you have
2. two firmware (android 6 & 7) both are at C:\Users\<user>\.flashTool\firmwares and you are able to see only 6 this could mean
(a) the firmware of 7 is not complied properly
(b) downloading firmware again from zero, may help
3. reinstalling flashtool also helps
4. make sure you are on latest flashtool and xjar files are replaced
